The neighborhood where I grew up in Boston had a big Caribbean population and Beef Patties were always a treat. Every corner store sold them and it was always easy to find a Jamaican restaurant where you could get them as well. Great video.

Well Im from Miami and due to the large Caribbean population I am a custom to a wide variety Jamaican patties Haitian patties Cuban pastries and patties beautiful thing is Americans like myself thanks to friends and ex's can prepare some of the dishes on of my ex father stated i cooked Haitian food better then him and his mother which was my ex grandma would call her neighbors over to watch me prepare the food and they was all shocked.

They're so amazing! They have them all over the city where I am in Canada. Like every corner store in existence has a heater box with a bunch of them. They're not the handmade ones or anything, but man. They're the perfect food, it's good for breakfast on the way to work, and for dinner on the way back, for lunch if you happen to be at a store. It's like a habit now, if I see them, I get one, almost always. Hot dogs definitely have their place still, but patties are for sure the best street food in the world!

Growing up in Montreal, we had only one type of Jamaican patty : Patty King. Ubiquitous. It was decent but I always suspected the OG patties in Jamaica or the homemade ones had to be out of this world. This video has confirmed my hunch. Edit: I think it’s beautiful how Jamaicans took the Cornish Pasty, which is - in all honesty - like all British food quite mediocre, and made it into something so wonderful and delightful and gave it back to the world ❤

We have a traditional Brazilian street food very similar to this one. It’s called pastel and it’s inspired in Japanese gyoza. The different is in the dough, we use a very much thinner one and we usually deep-fry them for crispness.
I grew up in Toronto, Jamaican patties were huge here. Definitely the most popular snack in the world competing against a hundred variations, the Jamaicans invented the best version hands down.

When he said "quality beef" he wasn't BS'ing one bit. If you use ground beef that has fat-added to it, then you'd forsure want to drain it, unlike he did here. Called many things, most times called "finely texture beef". Basically the cheapest ground beef you see, is about guaranteed to be this. Look for "round ground" or "sirloin ground" to avoid it the most. Dead give away when you break open ground beef and the middle is brown, means it's been exposed to air and is not just a fresh ground beef.

It's a scotch bonnet. They're similar in heat and appearance to habaneros and taste kinda similar, but scotch bonnets have more of a sweetness to them, which is important in a lot of dishes.

Growing up in Montreal, we had only one type of Jamaican patty : Patty King. Ubiquitous. It was decent but I always suspected the OG patties in Jamaica or the homemade ones had to be out of this world. This video has confirmed my hunch.
Edit: I think it’s beautiful how Jamaicans took the Cornish Pasty, which is - in all honesty - like all British food quite mediocre, and made it into something so wonderful and delightful and gave it back to the world ❤

Made this today, used Lard and Butter instead of beef suet, and added Oyster sauce to the Beef, turned exceptionally well.

We have a traditional Brazilian street food very similar to this one. It’s called pastel and it’s inspired in Japanese gyoza. The different is in the dough, we use a very much thinner one and we usually deep-fry them for crispness.

When he said "quality beef" he wasn't BS'ing one bit. If you use ground beef that has fat-added to it, then you'd forsure want to drain it, unlike he did here. Called many things, most times called "finely texture beef". Basically the cheapest ground beef you see, is about guaranteed to be this. Look for "round ground" or "sirloin ground" to avoid it the most. Dead give away when you break open ground beef and the middle is brown, means it's been exposed to air and is not just a fresh ground beef.

Not a habanero. A scotch bonnet pepper. He said habanero is an (inadequate) substitute.

It's a scotch bonnet. They're similar in heat and appearance to habaneros and taste kinda similar, but scotch bonnets have more of a sweetness to them, which is important in a lot of dishes.
