  • In this video you will find out what to expect in getting started with EMDR: What the setup process looks like and what happens next. Stay tuned to find out more about EMDR.
You won't just walk into an EMDR therapists office and begin trauma processing. That would be scary, jarring and irresponsible! There actually is a lot of setup that goes into preparing one to begin the journey of trauma processing. Setting up for EMDR is the foundation for healthy rapport with your therapist, learning many tools and skills to help you feel safe and ready to start, and to help regulate emotion. Your therapist will get to know you, your background, what brings you in to therapy, what you would like to focus on, and how to do that in an appropriate and safe way. Check it out.

In therapy I use a combination of empirically validated and researched techniques for the treatment of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and treatment of eating disorders. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources and are used in my own practice with my clients. Many of these techniques come from the founder of Brainspotting, David Grand, and from the work of EMDR creator and founder, Francine Shapiro. I am also Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) certified, and have an additional certification in Fitness and Nutrition Coaching from National Exercise Sports Training Association.

Thank you very much for an extremely informative and helpful video, I start my EMDR therapy sessions in two weeks time and I’m hoping it can really assist me in healing from trauma

I’ve been told my trauma is too complicated for therapists to take me on. But I’ve been recommended EMDR
So like. I have to now split it up into multiple therapists because no one specialises in everything and I have CPTSD. But I only have until next March to have therapy before I’m not allowed funding anymore.
But like. Apparently they’ve found a therapist for part of my trauma to do EMDR. 😅
So yeah. Not expecting this to go well but I at least want to know what to expect.

@aperson2378 Thank you for sharing. It makes me sad when I hear stories like this. In my mind, as long as someone is motivated to heal, there is not a case that is "too complicated". If you haven't tried EMDR or Brainspotting as part of your therapeutic journey, it very well may be the missing link! I truly hope you find the peace you are looking for. You deserve it and it IS possible.
