- This run was mainly supposed to be testing a new route modification I made to get a better cloud cycle (There is a cloud environment puzzle you can only get for a minute every 14 minutes). The change was to move Castle to be in between tree's and swamp instead of forest and town. This allows me to hit the 41 minute cloud cycle right after Colors. The run went great and ended up PBing by about 5 minutes and getting WR! (as of 3/2/2016) -- Watch live at / djcarmichael

what if you do an any% of the witness while waiting for eclipse to finish in your 100% run of the witness

watching this game as a speed run shows me how many of the environment puzzles i missed!
Is people not speedrunning this game anymore? Feels like there are at least a good five minutes to trim from this route even without using new shortcuts. I think The Witness deserves more attention than a whole year without a new records.

This is awesome and SO helpful. I checked out 2 other playlists that didn't even include the secret puzzles, so thank you for that! (The really big ones on like the sides of mountains and other obscure locations.)

Absolutely love this game, still about 30 puzzles away from 100% I believe and this absolutely (Johnathan) Blows my mind. Also, I said this this other day when I realized Eclipse; Johnathan Blow is an ingenious jackass

Just watched the entirety of this speedrun and was listening to the speach before Mario had the floor.
But during the speach, I had to rewind RUclips because I missed something and I noticed something... odd.
The line puzzles in this game leave a different colored line behind so there is no overlapping and "cheating" so on a white background you drag a red dot leaving a red line behind it to the end to solve it...
...Just like the RUclips video time slider. Wierd eh?
Did u keep your hand on the mouse while doing the hour long puzzle? How did you do the puzzle without keeping your hand on the mouse?
clicking the mouse starts a puzzle, you don't have to keep the mouse held down, the puzzle will stay active thankfully lol

Also, lovely Undertale playlist. Just curious though, but what does that "comparing against" thin in the bottom left mean? It seems to be a memory address of some kind to me. Also, while I guess it's related to some kind of split-specific duration, I would also like to know what the "Glod" column stands for.

What does the 'A' mean in P/E/A (p.s. P means puzzle, E means environment puzzles)
stands for the audio logs. It was just in there as placeholder though, it wasn't functional in the autosplitter yet

Ah.... at 53:00 you did it from the boat! Did that really save any time considering you took a while at that distance and had to stop the boat? Wouldn’t it have been quicker to walk along the beach?

Why do you go back to the theater for eclipse instead of doing it when you first get there?
a lot of the early routing for the run is based on trying to get to a spot to solve a puzzle at the correct time. There is a cloud puzzle that you can only solve (at a specific location) every 14 minutes because the clouds are moving around the island. Ideally you get there and don't have wait at all. Doing the eclipse later doesn't lose any time since we have to go back there anyways

The eclipse takes about 56 minutes (14 times 4), so you could do eclipse earlier if you wanted to.

+stas brega a 100% file, as far as the speedrun community is aware, will have 523+135+6 on the load game screen, which I show at the end of the run. If you know puzzles that the community has somehow missed that will get the puzzle count higher than this, then by all means let us know

The Witness speedrunning is whack. Like, the game is purposely slow paced, yet, there's so many shortcuts, and snipes, and skips, and maybe even things that don't starts with S.

So, 100% does not count audiologs? I would say that everything that is in the lake should count in the 100%, but I see that the consensus has put it in the 523+135+6 goal.
It's very common in 100% speedruns to use the in-game completion tracking if there is any to be used to determine what should count. But honestly the main reason audiologs were not included is because it would make verifying runs very tedious. You'd have to watch the entire run to make sure they picked up all the logs, or force the end of each run to go to the lake to show they got them all. If the game tracked them along with the 523+135+6 stuff then they would have definitely been included

yea pretty much. I tend to switch to new games a lot and don't usually go back to running a game once I'm done with it. I like the process of learning a speedrun and getting decent at it, not as much grinding out for a really good time

The angle he moves the laser reflector to at 31:30 turns that cloud white
redirecting the laser in the town makes the cloud white
If you don't mind helping a noob, I have a couple questions. First, what software is giving you the split times on the right? Also, in the keep/castle on the purple puzzle, it seems like you jump over the square with the ink. How do you do that?
+J. Daniel Ashton I use a free program called Livesplit for my splits. Pretty easy to use and has a lot of customization options.
For the purple puzzle, for that all you have to do is hug the corner and not move too far to the left, and you won't step on the ink tile.
In the second final there is 1 more puzzle, and for activate this second final u need to do enviromental puzzle, good try ;)
With all due respect, I feel like speedrunning the Witness completely misses the point of the game.

Well, the audio logs don't have any value in the load screen. x; +y; +z is in the load screen, where x = normal puzzles, y = environmental puzzles, z = obelisks. You could collect them all to be truly 100% (which I also did).
