Forty years later, and ZZ Top is still the coolest. Fur guitars? That spin? Of course, this is a great video and even greater song. I also love how they portray the biker dudes as totally cool gentlemen.
I Immediately thought of "Eliminator" and Afterburner" the first 2 ZZ Top Albums I ever bought. Loved them then and still love them today. Talk about an under-rated band. Love their music and as you say Dusty Hill was a great guy.
I like how in this, and in other, ZZ Top music videos (ie. "Sharp Dressed Man") the boys just show up and transform an ordinary average person's life, with just one outstanding Texas rocking blues tune!
Even back in the 80's we never knew what the hell was going on in these videos, and could care less. If a vintage chromed out roadster came pulling up with three or four nylon clad bombshells in high heels and then three hillbilly looking dudes appeared out of nowhere and gave you the key to everything, you didn't question it. God, I miss the 1980's.
ZZ Top called themselves "that little ol' blues band from Texas", but we all know that they were more than that. ZZ Top had some of the most badass, skull crushing, hardrocking power riffs ever created in the history of this earth. RIP to a Texas King, Dusty Hill. 1949-2021.
Actually, the media called them 'that little blues band from Texas' as an insult. ZZTop turned that comment around and owned it. You can check it in a ZZTop documentary.
The girl in the hot car. "Kymberly Herrin" passed away today. She will always be remembered for her role in making ZZ Top a household name for millions of boys in the 80s and even today. She was also on the KISS Exposed video during the breakfast scene with Paul Stanley, among other parts. She will be missed.

I think it's fair to say that ZZ Top is one of the most iconic bands in the history of music. Love those Sharp Dressed sounds :) thank you Dusty, Billy and Frank.
2:43 The girl in Red, Playmate Kym Herrin, passed away today of cancer at only 65. She had more than her share of tragedies, losing everything in a fire, and having two sisters die before her. But she lived a adventurous life, sailing her boat thru the Panama Canal and traveling extensively. She would be recognized from this video in the most remotest of places. RIP Kym.

I seen Top twice this year, first time Joe Perry opened for them second time they opened for Willie Nelson and they where awesome, although I never did get to see them with the Dust
My sister & I were 11&12 yrs old when this video hit MTV. We would wait for this video to play. My favorite was the lady in all white, & my sister liked the one in the red top... RIP to Dusty man DANG!!
I was born in 96. What I've learned about the 80's from their videos are that the girls were attractive. Bullies ran wild. Most 80's artists cannot dance, and the music was greatness.
True, I tell my kids about how they don't have bullies anymore, now it's all just done in social media. Physical bullying was brutal back then, school was like prison, unless you kicked someone's A$$ you got no respect
The women were beautiful, but the glasses were way too big and they wore their pants/shorts/skirts/bottoms way too high (It's almost like female belly buttons were illegal to show in the 80s unless they wore a bikini or were Madonna.).
Hey Echoe, I love your take and much respect. But I must disagree (slightly)😉. Bullies reigned with impunity. The music was AWESOME!! Much better than the dreck being churned out currently. 2 out of 3 ain't bad. But on the 3rd point I must disagree. I was born in 1969 and came of age in the 80s. It's true that there were some beautiful girls back then. But the ones NOW are on a different level. I don't know if it's better nutrition/exercise or hormones in meat. But young women today are definitely more beautiful and have better bodies than women from the 80s. Just one old man's opinion. 👌🏾👋🏿
I was watching so much MTV the summer of 1984, every frame of the video is encoded in my brain. And I am not complaining. Iconic 80s styles and the whole Eliminator album is a timeless classic. 💗
Absolutely loved ZZ Top and their iconic hot rod. Fantastic guitar rifs and such memorable tunes. Shocked and saddened to hear Dusty had gone to that highway in the sky. RIP.

Dusty was like the Paul McCartney of the years of ZZ Top’s dominate reign of the early 70’s, mid 70’s, late 70’s, early 80’s, mid 80’s and late 80’s and so on this band is always gonna be my favorite despite the loss of Dusty!! I am an East Coast born and raised man who thinks this is absolutely fantastic! This is still one of my favorite alltime rock songs. I was always fascinated by these guys who never seemed to shave at all! LOL!
What I like about this video is the way the hi-class girls who drive the Eliminator car were so nice to the nerdy girl and even helped the boy who was thrown out of the shoe store get up on his feet despite being out of their league and way too hot for him. Then they help the girl change her drab wardrobe into something sexy. I also liked how the big guy on the motorcycle acted like a perfect gentleman despite looking real tough and menacing (though he probably was when he needed to be as we later find out towards the end of the video) and also telling her to be careful about her skirt getting caught against the motorcycle.
Perfect analysis of the whole video i really like your insights especially about the biker - some men who often have the hardest demeanors are such softies on the inside
Wendy Frazier was her name makeover girl. She was beautiful before makeover I’m 48 now was like 8 when video came out. Even today I still would’ve loved to seen making of video. Yes Eliminator Album was about giving people confidence using playmates as beautiful women. Sadly blonde is no longer with us. May her and Dusty Hill RIP.
I have to admit back in 1984 when my older brother and I watched this video on Night Tracks, I asked him 'WTH are you watching?' However, after seeing it a few times, the video and the song was extremely catchy and I have to give ZZ Top their respect. Got me doing the wave they do at the end. Totally feeling this, R.I.P. Dusty Hill
This video is a morality play. The moral of the story: Wrongdoers may get their way temporarily, but they will eventually be punished and the righteous will ultimately be triumphant. It would be a wonderful world if things always worked out that way in real life.
When this album came out, I honestly could not remember a band more popular or more famous than ZZ Top. I mean you just heard this or Gimme All Your Lovin' on every station, all the time. Absolute banger and absolute legends.
I along with many, MANY other teenage girls wanted to be ZZ Top girls after this video as we all want happy endings, eh. ICONS. Thank you for being your amazing selves everyone, peace and much love sent from Ontario, Canada.
Нет, просто современная америка стала больной, наполненной садомитами. И многие люди скучают по временам когда жизнь была естественной и не лицемерной, мир где больные уроды не говорили нормальным людям долбится в жопу и целовать неграм ноги
As far as all time best MTV music videos go, this is easily top 1-2. Outstanding song, great storyline, cool as hell car, attractive women, and the single most badass ending @4:48.
Song is 36 years old and still sounds as good as the day it was released. An all time classic. "I miss the 70s and 80s." I say, being born in the 2000s.
As someone who was born in the 70's, grew up in the 80's, You are right, this is a classic and the 90's was the BEST Era EVER. Time to listen to this song again :)
Growing up in Texas, I have seen the boys play a bunch of times. But the best show I saw was like ~1986 in Frankfurt Germany. Some fellow soldiers and I went to see them play. We were blown away, very cool show. I believe it was the tour with this album maybe. Anyway, very cool. RIP Dusty, you left us all alone out here, but with some of the best music ever! Long live the legend that is ZZ Top👍👍
OMG...WOW!! This brings back so many precious memories! I was a teenager in the 80's and in the early years of Mtv, I LOVED this video! I was a fan of ZZ Top's videos and music, some of best times of my life!! 😃
I truly miss these day’s. I am a huge fan of ZZTop. This is my favorite song and video by them. Music has definitely changed and the styles of clothes. I’m so glad I grew up in those day’s. This is true music. New school needs to take notes.
Wow this song brings back good memories of my childhood. I used to watch this video almost daily on Video One hosted by Richard Blade. That show introduced me to Thomas Dolby, Adam Ant and so many other great artists.

amen, trash lasts for a moment but decency lasts forever
That is one of the reasons I liked this video.
Well, it took some fairy godfathers with beards to make it happen
When this album came out, I honestly could not remember a band more popular or more famous than ZZ Top. I mean you just heard this or Gimme All Your Lovin' on every station, all the time. Absolute banger and absolute legends.
Rest In Peace Kymberly. Your leg-acy will never be forgotten.
Nice play on words !
I along with many, MANY other teenage girls wanted to be ZZ Top girls after this video as we all want happy endings, eh. ICONS. Thank you for being your amazing selves everyone, peace and much love sent from Ontario, Canada.
Hi Kat, hope you good👋😊
One of the most badass bass player in the world. Rest in peace Dusty, thanks for your music, you and your beard will be a eternal legend
Yes I like the song
いつ聞いても最高で、発売当時、全米のトラックドライバーにイリミネイターのカセットテープがたくさん売れたというエピソードが気に入っています。自分でもドライブしながらこの曲をよく聞いています。
R.I.P. Dusty Hill... spin that bass in Heaven and make the angels rock
Farewell to a sharp dressed man.
R.I.P Dusty Hill: 1949-2021.
God Bless ZZTOP and the 80s. I can't stop watching this it's so much fun and such a great song.
I won a trip to see ZZ Top at Mountaineer 86. I'm a one man band on youtube.
By a solid long mile ONE of the GREATEST videos of all time. As a teenage boy in the 80's these videos were everything.
It may be 2023 but ZZ Top don't ever get old to me. They can really rock
Нет, просто современная америка стала больной, наполненной садомитами. И многие люди скучают по временам когда жизнь была естественной и не лицемерной, мир где больные уроды не говорили нормальным людям долбится в жопу и целовать неграм ноги
How long have you been a fan?
She,s got leeeeegs!!! Xx
Man I miss the 80's 🤣 In more way that just music.. just being young again in a world that sure seemed better, at least to us in those times
My wife is not a "rocker", but she loves this song. It takes us back to when I was courting her and later married after I joined the Army.
Texas Blues, Bluesrock, Boogie, Southern Rock this is Zz Top my best friend all over the Univers.
giód fiy you l9verß
Still undeniably one of the best music videos of all time!
Iconic, and stone cold Kool. 🥶
This IS my Favorite of all time
Who are these girls?
OMG...WOW!! This brings back so many precious memories! I was a teenager in the 80's and in the early years of Mtv, I LOVED this video! I was a fan of ZZ Top's videos and music, some of best times of my life!! 😃
Dusty RIP man you and ZzTopp helped me out of the blues through some of the darkest times of my life
Those were the good ole days. A lot of the best musician’s are gone now. It’s heartbreaking but their music will live on forever. Cannot replace them
I truly miss these day’s. I am a huge fan of ZZTop. This is my favorite song and video by them. Music has definitely changed and the styles of clothes. I’m so glad I grew up in those day’s. This is true music. New school needs to take notes.
These guys will live on forever. The best. Still listening 2024.
Absolutely one of the finest music videos ever made;!!
Wow this song brings back good memories of my childhood. I used to watch this video almost daily on Video One hosted by Richard Blade. That show introduced me to Thomas Dolby, Adam Ant and so many other great artists.
I AM SO HAPPY THEY READ MY COMMENT ON THIS VIDEO SAYING I WANT THIS IN 1080p AND GUESS WHAT THEY DID :P
Nothing says the 80's more than big hair and big glasses! And of course outstanding music! RIP Dusty and thanks for 40+ years of classic music!
This was my FAVORITE video as a child! Loved her transformation!
RIP Dusty Hill, thank you for the legendary Rock n Roll! ❤😥
Remasterd Legs? I'm IN!
