Even back in the 80's we never knew what the hell was going on in these videos, and could care less. If a vintage chromed out roadster came pulling up with three or four nylon clad bombshells in high heels and then three hillbilly looking dudes appeared out of nowhere and gave you the key to everything, you didn't question it. God, I miss the 1980's.
I have to admit back in 1984 when my older brother and I watched this video on Night Tracks, I asked him 'WTH are you watching?' However, after seeing it a few times, the video and the song was extremely catchy and I have to give ZZ Top their respect. Got me doing the wave they do at the end. Totally feeling this, R.I.P. Dusty Hill
When this album came out, I honestly could not remember a band more popular or more famous than ZZ Top. I mean you just heard this or Gimme All Your Lovin' on every station, all the time. Absolute banger and absolute legends.
Wow this song brings back good memories of my childhood. I used to watch this video almost daily on Video One hosted by Richard Blade. That show introduced me to Thomas Dolby, Adam Ant and so many other great artists.
God, I miss good rock-and-roll. Autotuned/pitch corrected rap, hip-hop and boy bands are now omnipresent and you have to go hunting in the shadows to find contemporary rock. RIP, Dusty.
I grew up w/ them & they were the greatest. I even got their "key" symbol key chain, RIP Dusty. You will b missed since back then, it was real music...
I was 12 years old when I first saw a ZZ Top video. Became an instant fan. I've seen them live several times and the 'Eliminator' is my dream car. Rest peacefully in the loving arms of God, Mr.Hill. You've more than earned your heavenly rest.
OMG...WOW!! This brings back so many precious memories! I was a teenager in the 80's and in the early years of Mtv, I LOVED this video! I was a fan of ZZ Top's videos and music, some of best times of my life!! 😃
Growing up in Texas, I have seen the boys play a bunch of times. But the best show I saw was like ~1986 in Frankfurt Germany. Some fellow soldiers and I went to see them play. We were blown away, very cool show. I believe it was the tour with this album maybe. Anyway, very cool. RIP Dusty, you left us all alone out here, but with some of the best music ever! Long live the legend that is ZZ Top👍👍
I am an East Coast born and raised man who thinks this is absolutely fantastic! This is still one of my favorite alltime rock songs. I was always fascinated by these guys who never seemed to shave at all! LOL!
What I like about this video is the way the hi-class girls who drive the Eliminator car were so nice to the nerdy girl and even helped the boy who was thrown out of the shoe store get up on his feet despite being out of their league and way too hot for him. Then they help the girl change her drab wardrobe into something sexy. I also liked how the big guy on the motorcycle acted like a perfect gentleman despite looking real tough and menacing (though he probably was when he needed to be as we later find out towards the end of the video) and also telling her to be careful about her skirt getting caught against the motorcycle.
Perfect analysis of the whole video i really like your insights especially about the biker - some men who often have the hardest demeanors are such softies on the inside
Wendy Frazier was her name makeover girl. She was beautiful before makeover I’m 48 now was like 8 when video came out. Even today I still would’ve loved to seen making of video. Yes Eliminator Album was about giving people confidence using playmates as beautiful women. Sadly blonde is no longer with us. May her and Dusty Hill RIP.
I was born in 96. What I've learned about the 80's from their videos are that the girls were attractive. Bullies ran wild. Most 80's artists cannot dance, and the music was greatness.
True, I tell my kids about how they don't have bullies anymore, now it's all just done in social media. Physical bullying was brutal back then, school was like prison, unless you kicked someone's A$$ you got no respect
The women were beautiful, but the glasses were way too big and they wore their pants/shorts/skirts/bottoms way too high (It's almost like female belly buttons were illegal to show in the 80s unless they wore a bikini or were Madonna.).
Hey Echoe, I love your take and much respect. But I must disagree (slightly)😉. Bullies reigned with impunity. The music was AWESOME!! Much better than the dreck being churned out currently. 2 out of 3 ain't bad. But on the 3rd point I must disagree. I was born in 1969 and came of age in the 80s. It's true that there were some beautiful girls back then. But the ones NOW are on a different level. I don't know if it's better nutrition/exercise or hormones in meat. But young women today are definitely more beautiful and have better bodies than women from the 80s. Just one old man's opinion. 👌🏾👋🏿
As far as all time best MTV music videos go, this is easily top 1-2. Outstanding song, great storyline, cool as hell car, attractive women, and the single most badass ending @4:48.
This song reminds me of being a boy back in the 80s. Back then i still had my mom and grandma and grandpa still around. I really enjoy the song. But it reminds me that they are no longer around too.
Song is 36 years old and still sounds as good as the day it was released. An all time classic. "I miss the 70s and 80s." I say, being born in the 2000s.
As someone who was born in the 70's, grew up in the 80's, You are right, this is a classic and the 90's was the BEST Era EVER. Time to listen to this song again :)
I'll never forget the laugh my dad gave me over this: We had JUST got true cable TV (and MTV) when this came out. One night, my dad came downstairs to get a cold drink. I was watching this video. My dad was a strictly old-school type- WWII veteran, whole nine yards. I was waiting for some remark about the music and all the hot girls. However, the first thing he picked out was Eliminator. He was more interested in that car than anything else. 😆😆
This video is a morality play. The moral of the story: Wrongdoers may get their way temporarily, but they will eventually be punished and the righteous will ultimately be triumphant. It would be a wonderful world if things always worked out that way in real life.
I along with many, MANY other teenage girls wanted to be ZZ Top girls after this video as we all want happy endings, eh. ICONS. Thank you for being your amazing selves everyone, peace and much love sent from Ontario, Canada.
Back in the day when I was 6 in 1984 I watched MTV and loved this song, along with The CARS, The Eurythmics, Ghost Buster's, Prince, even Culture Club.

As someone who was born in the 70's, grew up in the 80's, You are right, this is a classic and the 90's was the BEST Era EVER.
Time to listen to this song again :)
Dusty RIP man you and ZzTopp helped me out of the blues through some of the darkest times of my life
epic guitar spins
Stop spinning my son
How do they do that when the music is still playing?
We ready for New yrs
I'll never forget the laugh my dad gave me over this:
We had JUST got true cable TV (and MTV) when this came out.
"the whole nine yards"
Love you dude😂
This video is a morality play.
The moral of the story: Wrongdoers may get their way temporarily, but they will eventually be punished and the righteous will ultimately be triumphant.
It would be a wonderful world if things always worked out that way in real life.
it all evens out eventually, dont worry
Tldr; bad guys loose in the end
amen, trash lasts for a moment but decency lasts forever
That is one of the reasons I liked this video.
Well, it took some fairy godfathers with beards to make it happen
I along with many, MANY other teenage girls wanted to be ZZ Top girls after this video as we all want happy endings, eh. ICONS. Thank you for being your amazing selves everyone, peace and much love sent from Ontario, Canada.
Hi Kat, hope you good👋😊
EXCELLENT VIDEO NOW. THANK YOU FOR REMASTERING IT.
I love this! I’ll never get tired of ZZ Top!
ZZ Top said their music was about women's empowerment, Dusty is now in rock n roll heaven spreading the love
R.I.P. Dusty Hill... spin that bass in Heaven and make the angels rock
GREAT VIDEO AND SOUND.
I must agree...brings ya back....😮
One of the greatest bands/songs of all time, RIP Dusty Hill, gone but never forgotten!
Back in the day when I was 6 in 1984 I watched MTV and loved this song, along with The CARS, The Eurythmics, Ghost Buster's, Prince, even Culture Club.
I remember every one of those like it was yesterday ☺️
The world will miss you Dusty R.I.P.!
Love this video....
RIP Dusty Hill, thank you for the legendary Rock n Roll! ❤😥
