Lots of interesting information, thanks. Knee replacement surgery due next year so I am using a camera tripod as a trial. I adapted the top mount to a softer surface and it seems to work pretty well, much more stable and far less painful than kneelers but tricky compared to prone.

I hunt and do 90% off sticks and it was good too see some things that may help my shooting. I'm also considering taking up hft as practice for hunting off sticks 👍

Great informative video Gary, thank you. I use an old camera tripod, I’m nearly always seated on a little fold up seat. It works a treat for me when taking out rabbits and squirrels. I never push against the tripod, just use it for balance.
I may go for one of the taller sticks for when I’m on a walk round.

My mates Primos gen 2 are about 3 years old and used each week and a lot of times used by all 4 of us in our group, the only thing wrong with them is one leg isn't as free moving, I've personally found a stout pair of boots helps my stability.

Great video Gary, I damaged my knee a while back and it seems well healed now so I have decided to shoot sticks, on the rare occasions I get out, just in case it starts it off again. I really cant see me ever shooting from a peg again, it dosent take long to adjust to the position. Its great that its become a recognised class and im sure it extends the competitive life of shooters as we all get older. Its on my to-do list to make some wider yokes, both flat bottomed and wide U shape, direct Gen 3 fit and 1/4" UNF. 😏

Absolutely brilliant Gary, thank you. I am a lifelong shot, but brand new to HFT. I also suffer M.E. which makes standing difficult. Is it permissible to kneel or even sit whilst using sticks? I saw something I think in one of your other videos suggesting sitting may be permissible with a backless chair of no taller than a certain height?

I always shoot off a tripod, regardless of range. I find too many stick users set the tripod too low so they're slightly crouching which will increase movement & therefore reduced accuracy. I use the Innorel RT90CM Carbon tripod, superior stability & quality over majority of so called "shooting" tripods & way cheaper. Keep up the great videos fella 😁

Thanks for sticking it to us Gary. I have been trying to get to an event this year but the stars have not aligned sadly. I have a question, you talked at the end about modifications to sticks not being allowed to stabilise the hand, however the chaps were using the hamsters resting against the sticks. Is this not a stabilisation aid of the rifle and equally should not be allowed ?

I shoot off sticks. I think course setters are aware that a lot of shooters now are using sticks. They obviously do not want to be giving away points for targets stick shooters cannot see. If there are any, they usually have a sticks only position, so that you can see the target. Shooting off sticks isn’t easy, as you have discovered Gary. There is definitely no advantage gained, apart from the fact you don’t have to get up and down. cheers Gary. 👍

As a hunter, I found this very interesting Gary. I use sticks 99% of the time these days due to being a lot less mobile than I was, and the fact that every time I got on the floor, I'd need a bloody crane to get me back up again !. Getting old sucks eh ?. Oh, and as an aside. I left my carbon fibre tripod and saddle on one of my permissions last week, and ended up using my gen 3 Primos sticks instead, and honestly, I was shaking about like a dog crapping razor blades !. LOL

Great video as ever Gary. I’ve recently started using a proper fingerless HFT glove and resting on top of my Primos to hold the gun. I think this is ok? Your thoughts please?

Think ÿhe stick class is important. As the average age is probably mid fifties in competition...so think they be a good future in it....age waits for no one....

I use a mk3, I find it hard to eliminate side to side movement generated by me not the stick. Very difficult to stop your body moving when standing up, no problem sitting. I tried resting my S400 further foreward and back, not much difference really.
I soon realised I was getting poor grouping with my HW98, the groups were tighter shooting off my knee with a hamster. It comes with a rubbery V rest which is ok for PCP but I found it didn't work very well with my HW98 so I tried putting pipe lagging all over it covered with a chamois leather to give a flat soft surface to shoot off. This improved grouping no end. I can only summise it's because the V retricts or affects the recoil somewhat but whatever, it's a lot better. Maybe it's just me but worth a try.
