    Been there a few times years ago. Grew up in NJ. Went to Brigantine (Forsythe) many times.
    I'm in FL now. Miss those places.

      Working on Brigantine right now! Hope to have it up by Friday, but that was a LOT of great footage and cooperative birds to edit.

    One of my favorite birding RUclips channels. Thank You. Love the turtles, sometimes I just end up turtle watching.

      Right? I kinda know my Maine turtles. Elsewhere? Not so much.

    It’s a favorite of the wife and I and it was a pleasure watching you describe it. Your understanding and insights are educational. And I totally agree, three days. Is about the right amount of time to spend visiting.

      I've done it in most seasons. Even had a snowy owl in January 20+ years ago. But this was my first November visit. Loads of fun.

    My second favorite wildlife refuge too! (I love the seaside sparrows, marsh wrens, and blue grosbeak in the summer.) First favorite NWR is Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Colorado. Looking forward to seeing your favorite NWR!

    Great video!! One our favorites!!! We were there at the end of October. Had those Sandhills cranes at Bear pool.
    We really enjoy visiting the refuges up and down the coast!
    Looking forward to the next one!

    Great video. You have knack of keeping your videos interesting to watch. I have been to Bombay Hook a few times. Prime Hook nearby is also amazing as well as Cape Henlopen nearby.

    • @Bob_Duchesne
      @Bob_Duchesne  Месяц назад +1

      Prime Hook is good, but I always found it to be good boat access, but not so great viewing. I almost tried it again this time, but I was having too much fun at Bombay Hook.
      On the other hand, a return to Blackwater NWR is in the cards for next year. That's given me a couple lifers over the years.

    Bob, I've been there at least half dozen times but learned a lot from your video. Need to get out of the car more I guess ! You must be quite the bird whisperer ! I was amazed you were able to walk along without spooking the birds. I find them skittish there just to pull over on the drive. So where is number 1 on your list ?

    • @Bob_Duchesne
      @Bob_Duchesne  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah, if you walk slowly and predictably, birds relax a little bit. And in a refuge, they relax a lot. It depends a little on the species. Some are more skittish than others.
      Next video: Forsythe NWR in New Jersey. It was awesome again!

    • @edkight6447
      @edkight6447 Месяц назад

      @ thanks for those tips. Can’t recall anyone walking there on my trips. Occasional bike or two. Looking forward to your Forsythe video. Need the motivation to drive up. It’s little shy of three hours from central Maryland.

    Hello Bob, Have been enjoying your videos for several years. I want to point out a minor correction: all of New Jersey is not on fire but rather under an emergency fire watch. Also NJ's Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge (Brigantine) is probably better for greater diversity of habitats. Vincent from Princeton Junction, NJ

    • @Bob_Duchesne
      @Bob_Duchesne  Месяц назад +2

      OK. A bit of exaggeration, for sure. The smoke started when we crossed the Mario Cuomo Bridge, then got really smoky again in southern New Jersey. I've never seen Bombay Hook so dry.
      And, yes, Brigantine is my FAVORITE NWR. That's next. I'm working on it now.

    Ah I’m at assateaque island today and I was fighting thinking that I was seeing a red necked loon but after seeing your clip maybe it was a grebe

    • @Bob_Duchesne
      @Bob_Duchesne  Месяц назад

      Could be either. A few years ago, I was in Hilton Head, South Carolina. I couldn't believe how many red-throated loons were just off the beach. I had always thought their winter range was more northern. I learn something new every day. Anyway, horned grebes are smaller and shorter necked than red-necked grebes, and much smaller than any loon. Hope that helps.
