Very peaceful video. I very much appreciate when you emphasize various species identification, it's very helpful to a novice such as myself. Thanks Wandering Woodsman!
The turkeys were really cool, because in the 5th grade we did a whole unit on how they re-introduced turkeys into Delaware and flew them in through the local airport about three miles away from school (Summit Airport). Great to see 25 years later their plan actually worked!
I’m lucky enough to live just a couple miles up the road from there. Aside from your pleasant narration, your soundtrack is what I hear right out my kitchen window. I’m glad you enjoyed your visit. The salt marshes and shorebirds are a special kind of beautiful to me.
You are so lucky! I was there a few weeks ago and I loved it. We even saw 2 Eagles right next to Smyrna Leipsic road eating some roadkill. Definitely will be back.
Cliff, My wife and I used to Catch the Cape May Ferry to Bombay Hook(we have also driven there from Bayville,NJ but it's a long haul.) What a great Wildlife Refuge. My wife and I have been birding together for over forty yeras and I started when I was a little boy on out farm. I remember seeing the American Avocets there. Dowitcher, two kinds, long and Short billed, actually 2 differnt species. That looked like Raccoon scat, possibly. What you heard warbling was a Marsh Wren, they have a white eye line and a beautiful song, very distinct. Great Egret, Double Crested Cormorant, Snowy Egret also have yellow feet I think those were Royal Terns with the big orangey bill, that's a good one to see. I hope you didn't mind my info, I know your quite knowledgeable. Cheers, Rik Spector
i appreciate your info! i was wondering if that was a marsh wren, but i'm not great at identifying birds from their sound unless it's a bird i hear often.
I noticed they paved the roads now , years ago they were all dirt roads . This is a great place to spend the day . Where you enter the refuge if the building is open they have a list of birds spotted for the days . I believe you can see this list online too . I used to visit a lot since my niece lives not far from it , I need to stop by soon . Thanks for tour around .
You just said it while I was typing it about getting out of Pennsylvania and seeing other places I love it ...... plus you know your stuff about history , animals, flowers all kinds of info you give out to us watching glad you get out to these places for me to watch thanks Steve 👍👍👍👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁
It is a beautiful spot. All if De. Parks are nice. Only bad thing the horse flies as we called them, gnats and mosquitos. They will chase you down I swear. When camping at Henlopen you must have a screened in tent set up to relax and dine in. We always wore the wrist bands to keep mosquitoes away they didn't stop the nasty flies. Oh so many good memories were brought back. Summers camping in De. and Pa.Thanks for this video.
Back in the 70s I would use RT to go to Ocean City and enjoyed the scenery and birds . Want to see a lot of birds, best time is Nov to March when the migration is going on and greese and ducks spend the winter. For old houses check out Odessa .
I live inland of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. It is right on our coast. It has an 8 mile loop driving trail. About 7 miles of it is through the marshes. From out on that trail you can see Atlantic City to the southeast. People come from all over to take pictures of the birds out there. One time in the Spring I saw about 15 bald eagles at the same time, perched in some trees. There are also several hiking trails there. This area of New Jersey is known as the Pine Barrens, or pinelands. We have dozens of state forests, state wildlife management areas, state parks, and county parks, with miles and miles of beautiful trails. Down in Cumberland County there is the Glades Wildlife Refuge which is run by an outfit called "Natural Lands Trust". It's amazing there too. There's a lot to see if you were to come here. I have heard of Bombay Hook NWR, but have never been there. I enjoyed this video.
I’m so glad you went to BH. It’s one of my favorite places for birding and viewing wildlife. I find something new every time I go there. Each season offers something different. Spring and fall migration are awesome, and the snow geese in the winter are worth checking out.
I thoroughly enjoyed Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge thanks for taking me along, I find myself looking for a video from you every day, I'm definitely hooked, thanks again Cliff
This was awesome. My husband and I went to the Outer Banks (OBX), NC for twelve years and we would pass the exit for Bombay Hook and I could never get him to stop. Now, after seeing this video, I am really upset that he never agreed to stop. This is birder's paradise. I'm an amateur birder. When you did the Bear Trail and you scanned the birds; I think you were correct that some of those were Terns. I think the ones with the bright orange beaks were either the Royal Tern or the Caspian Tern. That was such a beautiful spot; I am so glad you did it. I really enjoyed this video.
Wow that birdsong was incredible beautiful, I could sit all day and listen to them. That boardwalk trail was my fave such. Gorgeous are, loved it all tho. Thanks so much for taking me along. Please stay safe and take care
This is such a great place! Could spend all day watching the birds. Thought it was weird to see white pelicans hanging out at the Bowdoin wildlife refuge in Montana this week LOL! Never thought Delaware was this interesting. ..may have to go for a road trip east! 😊 Thanks!
Dont miss touring The DeBraak / Zwaanendael Museum while your down Lewes way. Very interesting history and artifacts there. Hope You didnt forget your swim trunks for hitting all those beaches down there as well. Cool WWII U-Boat Look-out towers along the lower State beaches to check out too. Always entertaining and informative posts, Cliff 👍🍻 PS: did You get a chance to ride the Cape May - Lewes Ferry ??
What an absolute Wonderful Adventure Cliff. I be been on quite a few boardwalk hikes in my time here in Canada...have always Enjoyed them so much..was Awesome to see all the wildlife..thank-you so much for sharing!💚✌️
I live in Delaware but i never walk those trails before. I'll have to check it now. There is so much to see in our world you just have to take the time to do it. Enjoying your video's
Our family camps at Henlopen on a regular basis! I recommend touring the old churchyard in the town of Lewes. Show us the anchor fluke of captain what's-his-name, who was buried with his pilot-boat anchor. Also, the WW2 military camp is cool. Hope you get this before you leave town! Cheers!
Welcome to Delaware. There are so many wonderful parks and natural areas to see. I was at Prime Hook a year back and was able to watch a Blue Herron catch a fish just off one of the trails. There a a lot of interesting wildlife here in Delaware. I hope you come back and explore some more of the state.
Love this place! and only $4!? I found a place near me that has walking paths thru swamps and woods, yea they want $10 and it's just one tiny walking path. pretty sure there's something bigger there than birds, crabs etc since you found a deer leg.
hi Woodsman got back home taxi gt evening here 9th August Sunday this reminds me of little jungle etc. any crocs.? hi but stay away ears of d rabbit love America east coast brian must watch now

The white birds are snowy egrets. They are indeed very beautiful and striking!
This place was so beautiful. Hearing all the songbirds was really cool. This is a great adventure you are on!!
Delaware is a beautiful state enjoy you're new adventure
Glad you went later in the season when the flys weren't bad. There are days you can't even walk the paths due to the biting flys.
I hooe you went to visit Woodland Beach as well! A hidden gem! Much love from Delaware!
Love the tshirt! We live only 15 miles from Watkins!
Birds singing, beautiful flowers...bears lurking?
I really enjoyed this video. You have a amazing eye for things hidden and seemingly miles away. Love you zoom camera.
also try killens pond state park for great nature.

Great job I hope you really enjoyed yourself. The video and audio were fine. Thanks.
live right by bombay area. very nice place for the bird watching.
Thank you for the map!
The best way to identify Snowy Egrets is their dark legs and they have yellow feet. The Terns looked like Caspian Terns to me.
Great adventure, thanks!!🥰

Just curious why you named your Jeep Naomi?
Sort of named after a friend.
