    My childhood was pretty much what you described. I have very same desire to build something. Personally for me 3D was escape from reality where I could spend time building my own worlds which later translated to game development.

    Glad you did this. You mentioned it Saturday, but didn't think you'd be on it so quickly. I'd be very interested in your interviewing artists from different types of markets in 3D

    You should NEVER work for free. This is a bad bad idea. The only time it makes sense is a passion project, or a charity. It will NOT get most people's career started, but it will make you look cheap in all senses to everyone you interact with. The more a client pays for work the more invested they are in respecting you.

    This is so motivational for me. Been so lost lately. Almost done with my BA in 3D-Graphics now, and I've been like "wtf am I gonna do now". Anyway... your videos and information truly motivates to keep the grind going!

    Great debut, Arthur. Wearing so many hats as a small business can be daunting at first, but the freedom and the mindset you get from that is definitely worth it. I'm on this same game of 3D product trailers, and you gave me some nice tips via IG's dm some months ago. I wish you success, more renders, and more podcast episodes!

    People often ask me the same, and it is a sensitive topic. I swear everything you say, matches what I would say. So thanks a lot! Gave me confidence.
    The best short suggestion I have is: work for free in the best studio you can find. Do that for 3-6 months. After that you should be able to freelance for them after leaving. From there on follow pretty much everything in this Video.

    • @V-95K
      @V-95K 3 года назад +5

      But where can I get money from while working 3-6 months for free?

    • @DamianMathew
      @DamianMathew 3 года назад +3

      @@V-95K either side jobs, or before hand you save up. Also you can try to make your daily life as cheap as possible. Also you could try to do a deal where you get like 400€ per mounth. Depends.
      But don’t mix up learning and money. The free work part is all about learning and investing into your future. The money part can come from anywhere. At the time I was working in a print shop, call center, I was fixing roofs, changing the heater terminator in apartments, folding shirts in a skate shop and more. I even recorded voice overs in my basement. I did anything that made money. This way I was able to focus on learning and investing into my future without any money distraction. I hope that helps

    Dedicating a podcast episode to year end taxes, workers comp, operating expenses, and other hidden cost would be the responsible thing to do. It's very easy to end up owing the IRS when freelancing.

    How do you travel with a workstation powerful enough for 3d? What's your regular setup while traveling please?

    • @ArthurWhitehead
      @ArthurWhitehead  4 года назад +6

      These days you can get a laptop equivalent to my workstation excluding the multi GPU factor. You can use your original workstation as a render farm for long distance on the final renders.

    Important industry issue at 8min. Even if you have a good mix of 2D and 3D material, clients tend to put you in the box they first hired you for. It's just a part of how people think. I'm sure there is a way around it, but I haven't figured it out.

    Hi everyone,
    Do you any twitch streamers that are doing freelance work or talking about freelance work in 3D? Any design long-form sessions? Something like a Blender session or a Photoshop session that was useful for you?
    If not, any long-form honest audio or video materials about design freelancing? RUclips streams or podcast episodes that have impacted the way you see business finding ?
    The reason I'm asking this question here is because the search engine on twitch is not well optimized for finding topic-specific content and I know there is good content over there.
    Any resource/link/idea would help.

    You said you were massively into Gaming, how did you break the 24/7 time waste of spending too much time on games and actually get work done, especially if you are already working during the day? I finish a day and just feel like relaxing and personally although I do love animation it's not the most relaxing activity?

    • @ArthurWhitehead
      @ArthurWhitehead  3 года назад +1

      Find ways of replacing the gaming habit. I realized those gaming hours were being evaporated and going nowhere so I found others things I was interested in i.e dating, business, travel and I found people in the top of those areas and befriended them. Achieving those things became a lot more of a high that playing games. I still play games when I've got nothing to do knowing those hours I'll never get back, but It's not an addiction or habit anymore, and I often find I get bored and would rather find "work" to do just because I find it so interesting and I know I'm building towards things that will affect my future as apposed to a level in a game.
