- i'm the reason why employers require 20 year olds to have 10+ years work experience.
hopefully some of you find this helpful. i'm being a little silly here but fr don't be afraid to embellish your experience within reason. the worst an employer can do, is fire you for lying on your resume. and then what? you're gonna be an unemployed loser -- the exact same position you were before you lied lmao.
i've got many years of experience as a designer now but all of it wouldn't have been possible if i didn't lie in the first place to get my foot in the door into the industry. lmk if you have any questions, i'd be happy to answer them in the comments.
my bad this one took a while to make. will try to make the next one quicker in a week or 2.
pls like and subscribe. i got kicked off the youtube partnership program for being inactive the past 3 years 😭

i was just questioning life and feeling depressed af and this video made me feel better man. gave the hype to get things done. ill do it. ill make it!

Me too bro
im in the same boat as you man, we got this
I am here, after completing a rigorous 4 year bachelor's in design degree, and three failed jobs, this is so encouraging and I love how real and conversational this felt
Glad this helped you! I hope the 4th time’s a charm🤞
Me too
I'm about to graduate with my graphic design degree and I was needing guidance for looking for my first job 😆
This boosted my confidence through the roof after I had a mental breakdown over being a failure... I gotta ditch my therapist, that's beautiful.
Nah you ain’t a failure, you got this g 🫶
Dude you don't know how much relieved I'm feeling after watching this tutorial. I was pursuing my veterinary medicine degree but dropped out of college due to graphic design and started freelancing. I didn't get much clients so I'm looking for a job but was worried about degree, portfolio and experience stuff. I'll apply the tips you shared. I really want to get a job before turning 21 next year. Let's see 🧡
I studied physical therapy so I understand the balls it takes to make that leap of faith from a safe medical career into a creative one, mucho respect
Appreciate the kind words. Good luck and lmk if you had any Q’s
@@Tre-333My whole family was against me. I was gonna be the first doctor in my family but I ruined their expectations. Only my mother was on my side. Thankfully after a big fight and my crying, they finally let it slide.
How its going on your journey bro? U landed some interviews already?@@mhariszeeshan
I'm in medical school but I'm leaving to become a graphic designer cuz that's what I wanted to do since I was a kid. But it's so scary making that 180-degree jump and I'm not sure I'll ever land a good job.
I'm in a similar process as well!! I have been a teacher for years, but always had a passion for design...even when I was getting my degree. I pushed that feeling aside for YEARS, and I was always worried about leaving the security of that teaching job. But the past 2 years I've learned so much as a self taught designer, and I'm finally feeling ready to apply for design jobs. At the end of the day, you can't change what's meant to be yours in life.
Bro idk if you're joking half the time but "they won't even understand them" made me sub lmfaooo chaotic video dope

nah bro same
i believe everything is connected, this video pops out when I need the motivation about graphic design

this was the first video I found of yours. The way you delivered all of this was hilarious and inpowering.
I did my first cold email back in Decemeber, and in January it landed me a $600.00 job. NEVER BE AFRAID OF COLD EMAILS ! It feels weird doing it, but none of those people on indeed are whiping out a personalized email.
You definitely got a follow from me, and Im going to be using these steps in the near future.
Congrats on the 600 dollar gig, so glad that worked out for you haha. My mentality is if we’re not born lucky - we have to make our own luck 🍀
Thanks for the sub + the kind words
i am trying really hard to get a job as a graphic desighner jobs can you tell me what sort of websites hire more i have done over 50 emails still failing to ee get a reply
I personally don't think AI is going to replace every designer because AI can only work with prompts that have already been used in the past and can't create new art on it's own.
You will always need to have some sort of human input and editing needed in order to get a truly fitting result.
What I would agree on is that in the future every designer will be kind of forced to work with AI because it makes things so much easier and it can safe you lots of time which results in more efficiency overall.
Good take, yeah I think (good) creative direction will always need to led by a human. But you can slash entire junior and most mid-level designer roles, as prompts will automate grunt work (as if Canva hasn’t done that already lmao)
It’s like a more extreme version of the invention of the camera making photorealistic painting obsolete. Taste and creative vision will be more important than it’s ever been

Loved the whole video bro. Got a little scared about the AI replacement part but I'll think of something in 5 years.
Also, that's exactly gow I got a job as a junior copywriter. Created a portfolio in 4 hours and got a job within 24 hrs.
I'm back at graphic design after 3 months at the job.
Should put that experience on my resume?
Appreciate it, yeah that’s the way bro
Looking back, after working with AI tech that’s available today I reckon it’s still a while away before graphic designers get fully replaced. But there will be a rapid move away from valuing low/mid level technical skill to the importance of visual identity and theory knowledge. So as long as we stay on top of that we should be aight
Also yeah, definitely include that in your resume. Content is content whether it’s graphic, video or text based. Lots of crossover there
The value in this video is insane
Ty for the kind words 🤝
I’m making some mockups but i keep overthinking everything i just need to jump on it and learn and put everything together.

I took a graphics design class when I was a senior in high school. It was really interesting and we learned how magazines, publishing, and merchandise packaging. This was back in 1993, so everything was done by hand.
i can’t imagine doing things without a computer haha, but it must’ve been cool to have an authentic tactile feel when designing

You my friemd are 100% correct! Also the most important thing is if you know how to design. If you can design cool things, nobody will question your education or work experience.
Yea true, I’ll take the designer that knows their stuff over someone with just an expensive degree
0:01 i completely agree with u, not only to hit a gig , but u can fake everything till u make it fr fr
For real tho. Applies to 99% of life
I love you man. also! being an actual graphic design student do you have tips on how I could actually make a good portfolio? I want to design things but I'm not sure what. I'm told my anime art style is unwanted in the field. an interior design kid told me that but he might be right
The good thing is that illustration skills are highly desired and rare. Yes, there’s a stigma toward anime/anime-ish style drawing - but there’s always going to be companies that love it. Try to include some diverse illustration styles and it’ll cover all your bases.
As far as general portfolio stuff, if you’re looking to work in a marketing team: design social media posts, website banners, product mock-ups. I’d need more specific info to give better advice. Good luck brah
dude this is the best video ive ever seen, no jokes xD pls retake the channel

hello Tre, thank you so much for your tips. Honestly this video just boosted my energy and enthusiasm level from 1 to 100
I am a 15 years old enthusiast who is very interested in graphic design. I have learned mostly everything I need to know about graphic design, i watched lots of youtube courses and stuff like that.
I was wondering whats the age limit for this job? am I too young? thanks again 🙏
I’m glad it inspired you. Honestly, I would assume there’s no age requirement to do graphic design. In fact, there’s probably some advantages to being young as you’re more connected to pop culture and internet trends (very desired in the design field)
Only reveal your age to your employer if they ask for it. I’m replying to you on an iPhone that was probably assembled by a 9 year old kid in Pakistan, so I reckon go for it
ur real 4 this
"don't trama dump" that's great

You’re welcome 🤝
Dude I'm an animation graduate from Jamaica, and honestly it's a bit draining sometimes trying to get gigs...but now I'm shifting my focus to graphic design and UX|UI designing... and trying to expand my skillset
So thank you for this video
All good dude. In todays economy it’s valuable to have a diverse skill set. Your animation background will give you a big advantage over a lot of UI/UX designers cause you understand flow and movement better
I’ve just started a new position and imposter syndrome has hit hard😂this helped me not take everything so seriously. Thanks dude
Make it past 2 weeks and you’re golden 🤝
Nice! Right on time, when I got my first feedback from my job Graphical Designer/Illustrator application with job tasks that I did yesterday (it was a deadline) cuz I'm little bit more skilled than in this video :D So, it kinda gives me confidence to land that position like next week or so on cuz they have few more applicants besides me :D And talking about AI situation, I think that it only gonna replace junior positions in graphical designers and not senior cuz at the end of the day they were doing basic ass jobs all day every day :D
Yeah I agree, AI will come for junior designers first and then mid level. It’ll eventually eat up some senior roles but spare some of the roles, as a human intervention and creative direction will still be needed. That is, until we reach A.I. singularity at which point every career path is screwed 🤷♂️
Congrats on the new graphical design job btw 👏
@@Tre-333 Ye! Still didn't got the job, need to wait the next week for the feedback and maybe then I'll go to work interview :D

@@Tre-333 TY! 😎👊
I don't see AI replacing graphic designers just yet. Great video.
Yeah tru I was exaggerating. There’s always going to be a market for graphic designers, but the ability to A.I. prompt design elements will become essential
@@Tre-333 That is true.
Man, this was such a great cure for my imposter syndrome. Best advice I've ever gotten, hands down. Then I got to the last statement "enjoy the last 5 years". Ugh. Where should we pivot when we're obsolete?
Appreciate it. The next 5 years you should upskill on creative direction and newer technologies (think: AI, VR, 3D spatial design) to stay relevant
I graduated on December 16,2023, and have yet to get an internship. 😂I couldn't agree more with your last part about AI taking over the design industry. Even if it might be a joke, I found a lot of your advice helpful here!
Congrats on graduating! I trashed art school a lot in my video haha but that’s still an accomplishment most people don’t get thru
Good luck on finding an internship, it can take some time 😮💨
Haha lol 🤣 I graduated with a bachelor degree in graphic design, but ended up working at transmission plant as a warehouse manager. I still use photoshop and illustrator, to make my own designs or make them for my acquaintances. But wouldn't say it's freelance side gig. I'll definitely take your advice and do this.
Oof that’s a crazy career jump, good luck 🍀 🤝
I went from feeling underqualified to being the most qualified graphic designer :)) Thanks man.
We gotta give those pep talks to ourselves 🤝

All good. Next time an opportunity comes through, accept it 💫

Some great advice and I love the part about LYING!!! I think everyone sees lying as a dirty word but sometimes it's necessary. People lie all the time, politicians lie like it's nothing :D As long as you're not lying about skills you don't have and are gonna get caught out about then it's fine.
Haha agreed. UMass researchers say 60% of people can’t go 10 minutes of talking without lying. It’s human nature to exaggerate or tell a white lie 🤷♂️
As long as you make great design work your team will be glad you lied
Nah cause telling people to lie about their school is wild 😂
But thanks for the tips and advice! It actually helped me a whole lot
All g, hope it works out for ya 🤝
Wow dude thats straight up a great advice for someone who wants to land his way inside the industry, I've been drawing, designing for fun ever since i was a kid and still do. I've done so many works that have piles of designs and illustration work of every single category, from 3d designs like stylized architecture/character/environment/industrial/stylized weapons design( fantasy, steampunk, medieval, Scandinavian etc etc) to 2d design/illustration like minimalistic stuffs including cafe product, branding, visual development, giftcard, attire, accessories , cute doodles, cute chars etc... the problem is i enjoy doing everything i mentioned and can't stick to one subject.. idk what to do, even if i chose one out of it i still dont know which companies to approach because i never applied anywhere before. Now im 23 with no degree also not good at english.. do you still think i can get a job ?? I also have a communication fear.
I’m exactly like you too. I’ve worked in animation, illustration, graphic design, architecture and photo-videography. The most important thing is to land your first job and you can start branching out from there pretty easily. I’d recommend graphic design the most, as it’s the easiest to wrap your head around + has the most job vacancies from what I’ve observed.
Also don’t worry about communication skills too much, the senior designer/creative director will be doing most of the talking with clients
thank you.
you’re welcome
The random local art school is my area is literally RISD 😅
Your resume is gonna be stacked haha
Fuck, this video was so real. I loved it!
Ty you a real one
Don't think AI is gonna take over the way you think it will simply because you can't OWN anything you make not to mention its lack of design choice I think it will instead do that grunt work you mentioned and leave designers to focus on more concepts. Love the vid ❤
True. My perspective’s changed a little in the past few months. Still time for new designers to learn the ropes before the bulk gets automated. This is prob a great time to get in if you wanna be an established creative director in 5-10ish years time
Wow! This is a "REBEL-type, how-to" motivation video on landing a graphic design job. I love it!

Just saw this, and i must say, you're sent from God my guy....i just have a question for you; I'll be going for remote roles, and my gear is really bad, like so bad that it would hinder me from giving my best, what is your opinion on asking for a work from home stipend to get a better gear for the job if am offered the role... is this asking to much?
I really anticipate your response
It’s definitely not too much to ask for if it’s a full time employed role. Computer equipment will just be filed as a tax-write off business expense for the company. They’d have to be pretty stingy bastards as it doesn’t cost the company anything.
I’d probably mention it in the job interview. Just be like, “What kind of equipment is provided for the role? I’m happy to use my personal laptop, but I just wanted to flag that it’s not the latest hardware and I think I’d be more productive if I had access to the 2023/2024 MacBook Pro” just frame it in a way that shows how much money you can make them if they gave you the equipment you need

Bro ! i worked as an IT recuiter and we used to do reference checks in fact and ive heard stories of companies coming after people who faked their resumes coz Hr department has a fixed salary structure according to the exp and degree and all unfortunately this is the same for graphic designer , the better option would be to join some graphic design course mention it on the cv and say its ongoing and never mention the duration , recruiters are very narrow minded the only thing we look are titles in the resumes i mean imagine getting a task to hire graphic designer with adobe on the cv which was the dumbest thing ive done
Interesting. This is the first time I’ve heard of this. Typically the way employers have checked in the past where I’m from, is that they ask you to complete a design task to double check you know what you’re doing.
But the way I see it, if they’re gonna check your references (which you faked) you’re not gonna get called in for an interview anyway. So it’s up to you and your risk tolerance. I’ve personally never been called out for it. And today, I actually do have the experience that I used to fake.
Good tip on the design course strat
I spent 3 months trying to get a job interview through my CV. It wasn’t working so I just ended up creating a new resume where I quite literally lied about half the things. It worked, I’ve been at my dream job for over a year now. ... so yeah, Lie
Same story here, now I’m at a point I don’t need to lie. Glad to hear it worked out for you too 🤝
This is so true for life in general. One of the top RUclipsrs on this platform with over 30 million subs started her channel by faking her gameplay and reading from scripts made for her. The majority of the people at the top either were born in it or they faked their way into it.

is it ok to make fake projects for not real brands or for a real brand that didn’t hire me? i need to fill my portfolio with brand projects not only my student stuff!
Yeah that’s totally fine, the term is called spec work and a lot of people do it. Casey Neistat started his career making fake Nike commercials
i always make posters for small business for free because my friends ask me to. i always wanted to be a graphic designer but due lack of educational attainment (im high school grad) i always think no, they wont accept people like me. till i found this video. Just go for it 🤝
I laughed my ass off bruh chinese restaurants?? 😭😭 But a question I do have is what about online graphic design jobs (where you can do it from home?) or jobs regarding video editing
Most graphic design jobs are remote or hybrid at this point. Video editing is the same (unless you’re needed on set to film)
Glad you could have a laugh over the vid 💫
I actually landed a job as a video editor , but actually I wasn't even a pro or master at video editing. I even lied at my job application resume.
