Does anybody else randomly think about this game like twice a year? I'm 28 and I remember being 7 when this game was released in '98, I played it so much but never could beat it lol
I'm 25, and I played Gex games on ps1 with broken Russian translate lol. I love this series, it's kinda sad that Gex don't have remaster or continue of the story
Hard to believe I found this game hard as a kid. I also didn't realize the amount of inappropriate references I was missing lol. This brings back sweet memories of the good old days of my childhood.
This might sound stupid but I still find Gex and Crash Bandicoot hard. I was raging all over again when I replayed Gex and the new Crash Bandicoot n sane trilogy. I hope they can remake Gex but Spyro is easy for me, when I was a kid I played Spyro like it was my homework lol. I eventually got to where I could beat his games in a day. Glad I got the reignited trilogy as well. Croc was hard too and I ever rage at times when I pop it back in too. 🤷🏻♀️
lol yeah man, I was also really scared of the Scream levels...I think it was mainly the screams and the ost that did it...oh and the chucky dude had me on edge too! Are any games today as good as old school gex? Pretty sure there is nothing out there like this at the moment
I got an emulator up and running on my PC and replay the entire game as a 27-year-old, I didn't see a single inappropriate reference the entire game. Lots of stuff that only adults would get but nothing I would call inappropriate
Back when I was a lil' guy playing this, I was at the point where I even refused to step inside those levels because they terrified me so much... So yeah, definitely relate-able.
Will Cheech and or Chong report to the front desk. God this game is charming af even after all these years. The one liners, haunted levels, Star Wars levels and mecha Gex occupied no small amount of my time as a child.
So much better than today's games. Graphics aside, nothing is as unique. I feel almost disappointed by the games that are released today - they focus on such pointless aspects and then make it look all fancy to try and wow us. Like "now you can grow a beard in RDR2"...okay great. But why is this game literally gta in the country with horses? Going through TVs to different themed levels with music, visuals all changing too...are you insane? It's like out of this world cool. People these days are trying to make games TOO REALISTIC. It's boring.
I played this game when I was like 3-6yo (Even playing it in the time where I couldn't really read). I didn't understand anything Gex was saying and now I finally understand it was just 90s pop culture references I still don't quite know. Truly a product of a bygone era.
Tip: To use the ice or flame power up you do the following. #1- Eat fly #2- holding down the Tail Whip Button and running circles around enemies. #3- Release the Tail Whip Button to deliver the Wall O' Fire #4- Repeat for the ice power up
4:21:26 - Fun Fact: Gex was an Eidos franchise, and Eidos games often share overlap in visual and sound assets. This little ratatatat you hear is a sound I recognize because I first heard it in Thief: The Dark Project growing up. It's fun to notice these little details.
At 5:11:18 it's cool to see that the singer from Information Society worked on the music for this game (Kurt Harland). He's a very talented individual!
Man everything about this game was just simply awesome lol. Like everyone else here I loved playing this as a kid. I remember the goofy cartoon sound effects would make me laugh so much LOL, and they still do! Can’t wait for this remake!😁😁
I read some comment on another video some guy was like, "i don't think they'd do it because of things like the cheesy jokes that Gex says, wouldn't go down well with today's audience"... Okay, well just do another voice over!? This is genuinely stressing me out watching this because it's so much better than games of today, in terms of the general idea, not the graphics (obvs).
Gex is a bit of a Playstation legend, sure. But he might be better off dead. A modern Gex would probably reference memes (which would make him even more annoying). As the saying goes, you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.

The creativity that went into games back then is about 10x more than today.
They have to make do with lack of graphics with creativity.
My first PS1 game. It must be 20 years ago. First grey hairs start growing on my head. :/ Love it until today.
