It's unlikely that you can use all the performance the MT-09 has. You haven't mentioned full throttle redlining it at corner exit on track days. So, it must be looks and what other people think about you (perception). What's your perfect looking motorcycle? Harley Davidson Low Rider? Triumph X-75 Hurricane? Captain America bike? MV Augusta Brutale 1000 RR? BSA Goldstar? What perception do you want people to have of you? Cheery GoldWing rider? 1%er? Ducatista? You can be whatever you want. The MT-09 is a pretty hot bike, all in all.

Track? That's not an option for me.
No I don't care what others think of me on my bike.
I imagine others can't see me on my bike anyways for safety.
I DO care what I think the bike looks like.
Do you want to ride a bike that looks good to you? or what others think looks good?
---- Yes they can be the same, but I only care about what I like. I'm buying for me, not others.

I love the wind blast and challenging it, shifting my butt around on the seat as needed. At 15K miles I've yet to use the cruise control and never will. Kirk, that was the feeling I had when I was enjoying so many great Japanese motorcycles. I traded bikes almost every year, some year even own 3 to 4 street, track, dual sports at the same time. Every bike was wonderful but all were giving me that generic feeling. At the end of all those 25 years on 2 wheel, I fell in love with a Ducati 916. So much characters with this track focused machine. So addicting V twin torque, the Ducati's desmodromic sound, the fully adjustable suspension and the stares from other riders, and non riders alike. The Ducati 916 was a supermodel. If you have a chance, do a review on an Italian bike?

Having owned two different MT09s and 3 MT07s… you should try a well sorted mt07. I have a very well kitted mt07 I use for the track. It’s such a great city bike, back roads ripper, and actually damn fun at the track with a suspension kit, solid ECU flash etc. 270 degree twins are just 🤌 Little bit more of a raw visceral experience having way less tech, rowdy little twin engine, and it’s loud as all get out with a nice exhaust

It sounds like you’d really enjoy a Aprillia Tuono 660 Factory. Little less power than the MT, has probably the best sounding twin engine, has all the tech the MT has. It’s technically a naked bike but has side plastics and a small windscreen, I actually went from the rs660 to the MT for the more comfortable upright ride but it was an amazing bike.

There's so much more to motorcycling than how the bike looks and what the exhaust sounds like. Try taking it to some decent winding canyon roads, that's where you'll appreciate good motorbikes. The MT09 is built to be great in the canyons and also to used on a daily basis in town etc. I think you need to think more about what you want a bike for.

Finally got to watch until the end. I've bought a few cars that i thought i'd love. Bought an 08 Landcruiser (used) to replace my 04. After about 6 mos, decided I liked my 04 (100 series ) more than the 200 series, and sold the newer one. I bought a Mercedes wagon (used), but it was almost too nice (and definitely too low), and sold it. And I've bought and sold two (new) dirt/dual sport bikes, after brief ownership. Now riding a 'vintage' 'dakar' bike, from 1989. Love it, but eyeing something new to go along side it in the garage. Bikes are cheap enough to have a couple.

Hi , I had a very similar issue. I bought a new triumph 1200 GT pro adventure/tourer . The engine came with the new T Plane crank . After a few weeks I knew I made the wrong decision. Great quality bike but the T plane crank has inherent vibrations at around 4200 rpm so at highway speeds of 65 onwards it was almost a vibro massage from the pegs to the handlebars. I woke up one morning and traded it on a new ninja 1000 sx. Butter smooth almost like my Tesla . Yes I took a big hit but now I just can’t wait to get on my ninja

It's a good thing that you review bikes! I have one observation to make... The best thing about riding a motorcycle is flying through curvy roads. It's sooooooo much fun! Florida has very few fun twisty roads to ride on. You should buy a bike made for your flat and straight riding environment, maybe a twin cruiser. The MT09 is made for fun roads.

Completely agree about the wind protection. I installed OEM mid windscreen, and now its pretty comfortable in 60-65mph range. 65-75 is manageable with light tuck. Without tuck, wind becomes uncomfortable.
However, I love the sound and looks (even with windscreen). And, I love the available torque. I am still in run-in period so haven't crossed 5-6k rpm much. But even below that more than required torque is available.

Each to their own bud. I had a 2019 R6 that was the love of my life but it just sucked riding it. Unless you're going full speed and acting like a racer it's uncomfortable, painful even to ride on the street at normal speeds. I thought I'd always have sport bikes because I've loved them for as long as I can remember but I test rode an MT-09 a few months back and I swapped my R6 for a 2024 MT-09 SP and I've never been happier on 2 wheels. Definitely follow your gut, go with what feels right and live your life the way you want to live it!

I recently bought a 1st gen 2020 XSR900... Added Black Widow full exhaust and a few other mods. I've owned a dozen or so sportbikes, both twins and i4s, the XSR is my 1st triple, and to my ears at least, the CP3 is by far the gnarliest sounding bike I've ever owned. I'm absolutely obsessed with how it sounds. Could be the difference between the Kelpi and the Black Widow, but I've never heard the Kelpi in person so I can't comment. That being said, I LOVE my XSR, enough that I'm considering selling or trading it at a loss in a few months for either a new XSR or a new MT09 as they fix a few of the things that I don't love about my 1st gen XSR. Riding on the highway isn't exactly pleasurable since they're naked, but I've done around 1,000 miles of highway riding so far on mine, mostly cruising at 80mph. For me, it certainly isn't the most enjoyable thing being blasted by the wind vs fully faired bikes, but I look at it as sort of a trade off... Supersport bikes just aren't comfortable for me to ride anymore after some back injuries and other things, and all of the more highway oriented Japanese sport-touring bikes I just can't sell myself on. I have considered a ZX-14R, a little bigger, a little more comfortable that a pure supersport bike, good wind protection and absolutely eats highway miles, but part of the selling point of a naked bike is the limitations of top speed. I've have several liter bikes as well as a fully modded ZX-12R, and with my lack of self-control, I just really shouldn't be buying something like that again lol.

I can understand it. Had a 2019 model for a year. Even though it has it's strengths, I began to hate the seating position, the suspension, the clutch, the fueling, the short wheel base quite soon. The looks doesn't attrac me either. Somehow it's still srtrange. Even in the 2024 model. It was the only bike I just put 3000 miles on in a year. Since 2020 I'm happy with a BMW F900R regarding any of those things. It' a sweet spot between commuting, touring, traveling, sport and still has a low price for that. I'm putting about 5500 miles on it having fun. But, everyone is different and has to find their own bike that makes them happy.

Been riding longer then I have been driving. Mostly Dirt. I just bought a 2024 MT-09 late July. I have 1300 miles+ right now. I like the bike. There are things I would change. A friend said I was a Old Man on a Young man's bike. Maybe he's right. This is my 1st full on Street Bike. I've spent significant time on a VZ800 & KLR650. I was selling both for a friend, but had them both about a year. I discovered I really enjoyed riding in the Street on a 78 DT400 I put together so in fear of blowing it up I bought a XR650L, which now has 10,000 miles on it, mostly road miles so I thought its time for a actual Street bike. I was drawn to the MT-09 because of its upright seat position and thought with a 3 Cylinder it would not be so "revy". I'm a touch off base there. Seems it does everything at 3000 RPM or higher. I'm a tool around kinda Guy and just like being out and about on 2 wheels. The Bike is not as upright as I'd like but I'm getting used to it. Its certainly not lacking for Power in fact it feels quite effortless which is good. I bought Mirror extenders so I could see something besides my Shoulders . Seat isn't horrible but I will probably get Yamaha's Comfort Seat. Not a lot of Swag out for this Bike yet but it's still a pretty new Model. I did put Yamaha's Grab Rail on which you can put a Rack like Gismo on as well as a Bucket but I have not gone that far. I did buy a Silver "Windscreen" but have not installed it yet. I like the Bike more each time I ride it and have no regrets. Will I keep it forever? No. But for now I will continue to ride it. For me, I'd like to sit more upright. I'd like a little more sound just so I am more noticeable, but from what I hear you have to Flash the ECU and the Check Engine light stays on. Can't have that so I'll stay stock for now. I don't need the Quickshifter, and won't be racing it. I don't mind using a Clutch. I have run up the Highway at 80 MPH and don't mind the wind, and the bikes feels stable. Its quite nimble which makes avoiding the surprise pot hole a breeze. Overall, I like it, and am good with how it looks. But I do need to put the Screen on. Get me a 7th or 8th Gear so I can keep the Rs down at 60 and I'm good. But really that's just sniveling.

A few years ago I was in the market for a new middle weight naked bike. I narrowed my choice down to the MT-07 and the SV650 But since it was a large purchase I wanted to test ride the bike before buying, so I rented the MT07 first thinking I would love it because it looked so great on paper (even if I wasn't such a fan of its looks in person). And while it was a great bike, I never really felt that connection to it. So the next week I rented an SV650 and even though it was well used and worse for wear, I immediately fell in love with the bike and put a deposit down on one that day and have loved it ever since. Damn, this video really speaks to me, I'm currently looking to buy my first bike, and the MT-09 checks all the boxes, great looking/cruise control/electronic for safety/3 cylinder and the acoustic sound chamber....etc, everything was so great on paper
But when I rent it and actually ride it, I found out the riding position and the seat is not great for long ride, and the clutch issue just like you mentioned, i can't confidently engage the clutch every time, and the fear is really made me feel this is not for me
I really wanted to like this bike, it's got every spec i want, looks good, sounds great, but i guess just don't have the connection to this bike 😞

You mentioned the Mx-5 Miata. That makes me think you should try a mt07 (or xsr700 if you like the looks better), a zx4r, a moto guzzi v7, sv650, triumph or Ducati scrambler. All those bikes have tons of character but not too much power to enjoy on the road. A lot of people like the mt07 better than the mt09 because you can max out the performance on the street without being too dangerous.

Your blurred ending is a ZX - 6R. Anniversary edition i think. Nice bike. Always wanted a crotch rocket. But as I got older I realized they have way too much high end power and I would end up killing myself and/or constantly get tickets. Sportbikes have crap turn radiuses and you lean on your wrists to much for my liking. I am currently an MT-09 gen 4 owner and yes I completely agree that the wind you feel on this bike is stupid ridiculous, and the seat for now after about 2.5 - 3hrs on it starts to get uncomfortable. Those are about the only things I wish were better. Other than that, I get compliments on it occasionally. Yes it's not the prettiest thing ever, (only for the MT-09s gen 1, gen 2, & gen 3 is it the better Model. IMO. Us inline 3rs are a rare breed because we thoroughly enjoy the sound and torque of our machine along with the hooliganism it is known for. Again IMO. Good luck with your next choice for a bike. At the end of the day being a rider is the most fun you can have out on the streets. Ride safe & ride on Kirk. Duces.

Just adding my 2 cents here, hearing all your points from the style which you dont necessarily like, to the sound and character of the engine, the excess of power that you dont necessarily enjoy as stated in the Miata example, it all just points that you were very heavily influenced by all the positive reviews this bike had and you bought it not necessarily because you liked it, but because everybody else did, and it just made practical sense price wise
Not saying that you should swap it to something else as you may grow into it and start liking it sometime down the road, but you should really look into the Aprilia RS660 or Tuono if you want to go Naked, or the Suzuki GSX-8S and R models

My son has owned many cool bikes( turnover factory 1100, dorso dura 1200 etc). We'll when he let me ride his MT10 I drove it 1 mile, turned around and gave it back. Way too brutal for me to even feel safe. Street nakeds go to full torque at the release of the clutch. Power wheelies with each gear. Yeah that's great. But not a safety feature I like. TEMT10 then nearly killed my son.
I traded my Z900 RS for this reason. I chose the ZX4RR . Now this is a bike that is nimble, controllable , high tech, good looking and is in total control. Most liter bikes or near are insane and will put you in jail or the cemetery.

I have had 3 motorcycles brand new in the pass year. From the spring of 2023 to now.
    2022 Yamaha R7:
Pros : light , agile, wheelie monster, lots of low end torque, an looked good.
Cons: power was made for down low so higher up in revs was very under whelming, the suspension was very basic, seat sucked, to light to get on hwy or interstate because it would blow you all over the place.
I sold that bike at 700 miles. Actually got all my money back on private sell. 🤪
    2021 gsxr1000r 100th anniversary edition:
Pros: lol i loved this bike, the paint job, the sick exhaust notes especially taking off banging thru the gears at low revs sounded like a exotic car, the power on tap , stable in corners an on hwy with inspired confidence, easy to work on just few bolts an the whole side fairings came off.
Cons: seat sucked lol , the power was to much at times an would have me death gripping the bars, eat thru tires like they were candy, the screen sucked an it wasn't a tft either, lil bit more viby in bars then i liked, my palms would go numb after riding more than hr. An my kneck hurt aswell.
I purchased the bike at 4k miles an sold it at 8k. I lost out on maybe 1500-2k.
Now i own a 2024 mt09 same color as you an i love it. It checked all my boxes. I was between the 2024 gsxs1000 an the 2024 mt09 an actual got to test ride both back to back an i couldn't tell a huge difference in the power. The gsxs1000 is like 476 pounds so tgat extra 30 hp wasn't that noticeable an i came from a 200hp bike so after test riding them an going home i chose the mt09 the next day. The gsxs1000 is a nice bike but it lacks alot of features in the user friendly department. No tft, no cruise, no imu. No gismos an gadgetz you do get a nice bike tho if none of that matters but to me those did an the weight was insane to me. My gsxr1000r was lighter 😅. I love the sound of the mt09 . .... so yes i have went thru your situation. Youll take a lose trading but private sell maybe not so much. 🤷🏻 i buy my bikes out right tho. Just know if you get a full fairing bike your asking for more expenses, replacing fairings after rocks eat them up, an the will, more expensive on insurance, the ergos suck, an there not good if you ever have a packpack. Idk if it was just weird timing or just me but after 800 mile mark i got a update thru the app an i felt like the bike is a totally different bike, more torque, more power, throttle smoother an clutch felt better. Could just been me tho.

    • @apexcobra.official

I don't see how the R7 is too light to be ridden on the highway without getting blown all over the place... I've had at least 8 bikes that weigh pretty much exactly the same as the R7 does, and have done tons of highway miles with zero issue. The R7 weighs about the same as the MT09, XSRs with weight reduction, or any 600cc supersport really... Which all do perfect fine. *shrug*

      @ZukaBro 2 месяца назад

@apexcobra.official that's your personal opinion. I have mine, an just because something weighs the same doesn't mean it's going to act the same on the road. Your not looking at the frame lengths, an rake etc .. but that's cool 😎

@ZukaBro Your comment was literally "it's too light to go on the highway." You didn't mention any reasons other than it being too light, which... I mean whatever. I wouldn't ride an R7 anyway, so it isn't like I'm hugging the thing's nuts or something anyway. The MT09 I would, tho, considering I have an XSR900 and they're similar. Considering the 24 MT09 as the next bike tbh, it's in probably the top 5 contenders list at the moment.

I'm sorry to say that but everything you describe is contrary to yamaha selling points of this bike being the dark side of japan, a hooligan, master of torque and it sounds to me like you bought this bike for wrong reasons as a compromise rather than buying what you really want. Yes this bike is crazy, yes it loves when you open the throttle and wants to dislocate your shoulders when doing it, it's a great bike but what's the point of having it if you just want to sound good and bop around the city. Bikes are not suppose to be logical choice, buy something that makes you smile even if it's stupid. Hopefully you will find a better match for you. And regarding your remarks on suspension, coming from factory it's completely out of whack, with it properly set I haven't noticed any of the issues you mentioned. I've put 3k miles on mine and the clutch works perfect, the bike does not like to set of from low RPM in my opinion you're not giving it enaugh throttle when setting off.
