If they bring back the Celica, the GR Corolla does not need to exist. If anything, the GR Corolla is a production prototype for Toyota. The Corolla was perfect as a cheap platform to perfect the G16E and GR-Four. They are perfecting not only the powerful, turbocharged replacement engine for the GR86 (which people have been asking for forever), they also are perfecting their GR-Four drivetrain which they can pair with an even more powerful engine and stick it in a beautiful new Celica. The G16E also can be doubled in size to create an inline-6 with minimal development costs. The Supra needs a Toyota engine for it to be accepted as a Toyota, as does the GR86. I think this development strategy is really smart and very efficient. Toyota can develop all these new sports cars with much lower development costs than you might expect. Back to the 90s y'all!

These cars will most likely be a 2nd car for most enthusiasts given 2 doors. But if they outprice these, I dont see much success regardless of how good they are - current GRC owner
As the owner of two hybrid Toyota's, one of them being a 2023 nightshade camry, I'm really excited about the hybrid sports cars... gives me accessible 918/LaFerrari/P1 vibes 🤔
We already don’t get Nissan Z and GTR cancelled from 2022, modified engine GR Supra 382hp one. So my reckoning is Toyota would not release some vehicles here in Europe as our regs are ridiculously strict.
I hope the Celica will be a lift back and have a more affordable variant so it's like a Scion tC. If they make it like a Scion tC I may end up trading my 2013 in.
I think it should be a liftback, but there’s no way to make it any more affordable since Scion doesn’t exist anymore nor does anything like it; it’s Toyota then Lexus.
@@colbyowens22How about a base model that makes somewhere from 190 to 230hp and fwd? Probably close to 30k?
@@SmplyTCRS8.0 maybe, but I’m not sure how possible that is because of emissions and all that stuff. I don’t see the Celica having different engine options but a cheaper version would be nice. Also, it’s going to be pricey since it’s a new platform and all too. Most likely, the GR86 will stay the affordable option in the lineup since the 3 cyl and that powertrain already exists.
I do hope the Celica can be affordable since I’m sure it always was when it was around. Since it sounds like Toyota is going to be bringing back a LOT of sports cars, I’m guessing engines will be shared, but I don’t expect many trims with some of them to keep production costs down, hence I’m skeptical they can offer diff engine options in these new models.
Dude a 2 door, 4 seater lift back with a turbo 4 awd 6 speed would be the dream.
Other Car Brands they turning their coupe and sports car's name into Electric Crossover.
While Toyota is still bring back the 2 iconic sportscar in a proper sportscar body.
That's why Toyota is the G.O.A.T
Best Car is usually very accurate especially when it comes to Toyota models.
And the haters called Toyota boring company .
They are more an enthusiast company than Honda Nissan and Subaru are whatever you want to mention.this doesn’t include their trucks or even their Lexus products.
It was a boring company for a while until Akio came in and made "No More Boring Cars" a big thing, and got rid of the bean counter culture of just producing only vanilla stuff
Toyota and Porsche. The only car companies that make interesting cars for me that are reliable, fun, affordable, and not ugly blobs.
I have owned my Toyota supra mkiv tt for 20+ years and a toyota hilux surf 3rd gen for 10 years, and use them both as my daily driver , and never had any serious issues, but the chance of a new TOYOTA made Supra pricked my ears up, but i know i will probably stick with what i have, love your content BTW
You're so lucky to have both!
“OFFICIAL” = “I saw it on an anime that Toyota is using to snag customers. So it has to be true.” Usually OFFICIAL means it’s a press release from Toyota, right?
Haha i call BS on this. The new gens will all be EVs probably 🤦♂️
Kirk, Are you saying cartoons are now a better predictor of future Toyota models than Best Car magazine? 🤔 I have nothing against any RWD sports car Toyota cares to build and sell but I want the GR Starlet!! 🤩🤩
What does it matter when Toyota themselves aren't building them. I don't want a BMW or Subaru.
damn I wanted the starlet in germany.....the rest is great but also very expensive i think too expensive as a new car hopefully i can afford them in 2035 when in europe they will only sell new evs etc. here
I want a MR-2 Spyder.
That’s about to be 6figs lol, last I heard way they are doing a limited run on those cars or some crap like that
Hybrid sports cars can be fun when done right. The latest hypercars are proof of that.
no SFR?
this is crazy, cannot wait ! I lost the gr86 for a crazy limited number here ... this gives me hope !
My fear is the 86 gets too expensive. But the right engine if you can afford it.
PRIME RAV4 the highest performance version, so they can make a PRIME PHEV Corolla, Prime Celica, Prime Camry, Prime Sienna, Prime MR2, 4WDe torque traction monster, but super ultra fuel efficient and low emissions in ECO mode driven normal in traffic, but a beast under full throttle when fully warmed up, fast, quick, sounds good, GR satisfaction fun to drive PHEV
Toyota has had a lot of critics the last 5 years, no investments, no ev's, dull cars, 2nd Nokia etc etc etc
Toyota:
Multi pathway strategy regarding Beyond zero
Ev'scin the make, same for brand New, revolutionary Ice's, fuel cell, multiple joint venture 's Suzuki, Subar, Mazda, Byd etc etc
New, imo, very nice New cars like the Crown Sport, Century, Camey, 4Runner etc etc.
Future cars, Lfa succesor, Mr2, Celica, Supra, etc etc
And Toyota sells 1 mln cars a month right now, August 2024....a month and billions in revenue.... .
Meanwhile, VW almost bankrupt, Stellantis 30% less sales, etc etc etc
And stll the media hints Toyota down. Unbelievable.
This monday the new Suzuki EVx launched in Italy.....the much anticipated Toyota sibling will follow in early 2025.
You are absolutely correct 💯
New models coming out
Source: Anime.
Nice cap, Kirk.
Well I plan on going over 85 frequently at the track so......
So the corolla after this generation goes back to just being the XRS or XSE again lol or maybe just call it GR Sport without AWD.
Some Japanese source said MR2 will collab with Daihatsu and Suzuki
So would be Toyota MR2/Daihatsu Copen/Suzuki Cappucino with same mini sportscar platform.
If it's true I think it would something platform development by Daihatsu and engine from Suzuki
I heard that years ago. I think it's possible they team up with Daihatsu and Suzuki for the Starlet?
@@KirkKreifels Yeah maybe you're right rumor said starlet would have a 3 cylinder 1.3xL turbo engine with 150ps
Sounds like the same thing inside swift sport.
Which means MR2 is definitely not destined for the US
@KirkKreifels toyota owns daihatsu by the way lol
@@olavofernandes7286Although of that Toyota and Daihatsu does not share development team
Through some daihatsu car come with Toyota badge(for example Roomy or SEA ver Yaris Cross) they can not use Toyota’s TNGA platform and other technologies toyota have.
Is there a GR Prius still coming?
Honda and mazda need a manual coupe not for sales records just to have any credibilty left with enthusiast's and to get people in the showroom to buy SUVs civics accords integras and to have something good looking
Does Scotty Kilmer have eyeballs?
I don't know what official means anymore
Supra might be on time. If BMW stops production of the Z4, it would be easy for Toyota to purchase the plant and retrofit it for a new Supra. Basically a facelift and new engine/trans.
Z4/Supra are built by Magna. Near zero chance of your plan happening.
I want to see a Toyota GR Corolla Sedan, to compete with the Subaru WRX
TBF, wasn’t the Scion TC technically the 8 and 9th gen Celica? 🤓
Technically but I’m glad it wasn’t. Was an all around boring car.
@ Agreed. My sister had an 06 tC. It was a practical and comfortable fwd sports hatch, but way underpowered to be any fun.
No it’s a spiritual successor
Kinda but not really. The Celica & tC had overlapping existences. Also in other parts of the world it was called the Zelas. So it definitely had it's own identity. But I see why people think it's the successor, it being a cheap sports coupe. Idk, the Celica was always cooler to me than the tC.
some sports cars will offer a non hybrid version in other markets...for example, Mazda will also offer a non hybrid version of the new Miata in the U.S. but in most European counties it might be hybrid only or the non hybrid version as a halo model
...time will tell
This is exciting because I’m wishing for Mazda to complete with a new RX.
Euro7 rules are not even confirmed as far as I know. A lot of the mandates can still be walked back at this point
I hope they wont be as ugly as everyone is showing them to be, they all look like cheap renders.
They need to really work on the exhaust sound tuning not fake through soeakers and human machine interaction make you feel you are in control the car an extension if you let the evs drive themselves and do everything
This was posted on the Supramkv forum last night... could have at least post a link to the source.
SC 600 FSP with the 3.5TT V6 would be cool too
One thing that pisses me off with Toyota. Is they make certain cars available only available in certain countries. Such as the GR Corolla and the Alphard not being available in the UK. Maybe there’s a good reason why?
Those are japan only just like starlet , century etc
Why can't we buy a GR Yaris or Corolla Touring Sports in Canada or the USA?
@@rightlanehog3151 only thing I can think of is emission regs? I’m no expert and I feel your frustration.
@@olavofernandes7286 I’ve seen lots of reviews of the GR Corolla from the states. Are they all imports?
@@Manc-fh5we I has nowt to with emissions and everything to do with poor corporate decision making.
Would be nice if at least one of the sport cars was a 4 door
Where are gr camry?🙁
Wait so there was some text in a backround of an Anime series and youre calling it "Official confirmation"? Camoon man...
Pausing at 4:24 to make this comment...that car looks SO MUCH like the Toyota Tesla concept from about 15-20 years ago! I remember seeing it in car magazines.
fk bro. im going to grad out of school this year and i need a new car. should i just wait till the new 86 comes out 😭😭😭
I think Toyota is missing the boat with a 4 cylinder turbo in this car , true enthusiast Supra lovers won’t be interested
I thought the Toyota promotion anime was MR Ghost.
Boi 💀
We already have the 8th gen Celica. Its called the Prius. Look at that yellow celica image and then take a look at the 2023-24 prius. Tell me they are not nearly identical...
Oh.... And they need to bring back the t-tops
I more leaning towards the mr2 and see what they do. Others are going to be meh
talk about acura convertible pls
Toyota making sports cars and Honda making a bunch of different civics lol
Japanese sports cars coming 👍 to America. Hell Yeah! Japanese sports cars will rule in affordable performance and reliable transportation 🇯🇵 #1. Everything that I mentioned above, European sports cars just don't have none of the above.
I'm honestly worried about this for Toyota. Is there actually enough demand for all of these 2 door coupes? I am interested, but i feel like they should have stuck to 2 or 3 sports cars. Not 5.
There is plenty of demand for all of those 5 vehicles. Toyota knows what they are doing very well
I just hope the new supra has a 2 times combined G16 engine 🙏
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’ll take any Toyota engine over a Bmw engine in a Toyota anytime heck put a Camry engine in a Supra ill take it
Lotus used Camry engines
@ let’s go!!!
We are not all speculating you are speculating. We are speculating secondhand speculating.😂
I love you dude ty! I’m gonna totally take all this info and drop a similar video this week! I need that capture software you use to share screen may I ask what you use?
And what if toyota strap corolla 3cylinder engine together to create supra engine?🤔 Kinda what they doing with century v12 engine👌
Have to keep fan boys interested
Toyota will ruin the next Gen Supra by neutering it for the Mr2
Upcoming Supra is going to be a excellent sports car and position below the flagship MR2 which is perfectly fine. Just like how Porsche has the 911 and below that there is the cayman or boxster. Same case here.
the current supra is already ruin because its BMW lol new models isn't going to be any better stop having your hopes up
I really wouldn’t want the next 86 to have a turbo. But it’s what’s probably gonna happen
People with their excuses all the time first they keep complaining about it not having a turbo and now they are crying that it is getting one. You guys are like chicks you don't know what you want lol, or you're just broke because people complaining never have any intentions of buying the car anyways, no matter what's upgraded Toyota do.
@abcwarrior123 I never wanted it to get a turbo what are you on about? You’re talking as if you know me. I’ve never even owned a turbo car😭
I do own a gr86 though. Bought this year. Raven black.
@@abcwarrior91 you are absolutely correct 💯. Hardcore enthusiast online always complain whenever change happens while they can obviously see the fact sports cars and super cars are going hybrid in some form These days.
I very much doubt there will be a new GR86 for many years still..
@@Mylifeislegendary982-vd3vI what part of I literally bought an 86. I mainly bought it because it was an NA. Them making the next variant turbo turns me off from it.
It the next has been a more powerful inline 4 that was NA, my 86 is getting traded immediately lol
Excited for the MR2...but the Supra without a inline 6 (hell ill take the B58) not so much.
Upcoming Supra with the turbo I4 hybrid will destroy the current one in every level from power performance torque and more. Last two supra's with I6 engines have not sold well whatsoever!.
EV sports car Toyota.
It’s sad if the GR86 is getting just a 3 cyl. I’d like to buy a 4 cyl sports car but the Supra could be too expensive / extreme for my needs. Hopefully we’ll get them here in Europe.
I hear you but the GR 1.6t is a blast to drive and surprisingly powerful.
GR COROLLA 1.6L i3 t is a excellent engine with Great power performance and More. Better than any I4. No need for any I4 or any help from Subaru.
@@Mylifeislegendary982-vd3vIthe 1.6 3 is indeed a fantastic engine. But still doesnt give you the benefits of a pure NA motor.
@@sanzserif 1.6l i3 t is better than any available Toyota na I4 available right now. Anyway its ok to have different opinions
@@Mylifeislegendary982-vd3vI Of course you can have different opinions. but objectively, an NA motor will give you better throttle response. As good as the 1.6 is, you still dull throttle response anytime you go forced induction. Anyways its ok to have different opinions.
I like to have RWD 2+2 with a DSG fast auto
DSGs equipped sports cars are not real sports cars!, you're not an F1 during the weekends, learn to h&t and stop trying to use a sports car as a traffic/commuting car.
@eugenux I don't give a shit. Have a nice day.
We still didn't got news from toyota themselves so I won't be excited about any sport cars new supra or celica whatever so I won't end up disappointed like when we had news about Lexus LC F
Toyota was working on the LCF but scrapped it because it wasn't good enough... LFR will be the fruit of that failure.
@KirkKreifels let's hope they don't cancel LFR too 😇
@@obaidalali5587 nah they won't. It's their next gen platform for GT3 to replace the aging RCF. Then thanks to homologation rules we get the street version.
@@KirkKreifels it said V8 TT in your slide, automatically means its junk.
All those performance cars would make for a very crowded line-up that I'd assume be mostly out of reach to enthusiasts looking for affordable options. If I were Toyota, I'd just make the next GR86 the Celica, retain the GR Corolla and GR Yaris. Make a Lexus twin of the next Supra but not a Toyota twin of the LF-R. I don't really see the need for a new MR2 but maybe Lexus could have that too. The F division desperately needs a shot in the arm after all.
Great video as always!
The baby crying for the Supra being an Inline 4 hybrid car at 1:56 was great timing.
