why is the old dude (the coach) giving the pc answers? the young dude was giving the correct answers. it's about recruitment and not enough programs in the inner city, and of course the expenses associated with baseball
When I was growing up in the 80's not many Black boys played baseball. Instead Black boys seem to prefer track. Both baseball and track happened around the same time(spring and summer). I've always been surprised that more Black boys didn't play. Even in the 80's there were a good number of Black-American players in MLB. Plus we once had a Negro League. So Blacks do have a history with baseball.
In 1991, 20% of all MLB players were Black. I know that this number is lower than in the NBA or NFL. But still overrepresented compared to the US population. The myth of Black people not being able to afford the necessary gear is bs In Cuba they play with sticks and self-made balls. Back in the days of the Negro Leagues, Baseball was the most prominent sport in the US. _"America's past time"._ Basketball was just gaining ground and a _"White men's sport"._ Football was a college sports. White colleges. From where the future pro teams largely recruited their players from. Baseball was just an _"all-people/races game"._

Baseball is a skill sport requiring repetition. Even the greatest basketball player couldn’t thrive in baseball. Most black kids with athletic ability go to less skill demanding sports like basketball or football
It's a boring sport. I use to love playing baseball as a kid in the 80s , and I was Great, even won MVP Trophy for my team in 1984. But I grew out of it, like most Black Kids did with BASEBALL
I don’t buy the equipment argument. You need more equipment with football, helmet pads football pants. Baseball all you need is a ball and a glove and a simple wood bat. Even if you don’t have that you can use a broomstick and rubber ball and play stick ball.
I know I'm a little late but isn't football typically played on like a highschool team so you don't have to pay and football at that stage is a lot easier to learn then baseball
It's to hard to join and find programs then baseball don't have any examples like kobe, shaq,LeBron or the whole NFL and what about minor leagues get stuck in that situation and you'll never step up I've seen so many baseball cards like where is he now some cards have all minor league stats 1yr MLB then gone Negro league or forget about it...fax
I do think that the minor league system plays a roll. These kids are looking to get paid quick and baseball doesn’t provide that like basketball does. With basketball you don’t have to commit to 4 years and still have a shot at the NBA. College football is basically the development league for the NFL.
@@tonyschmitz1997 Very true. In the NFL and NBA, star college players are playing as rookies. In MLB, you have to play in the minors, sometimes for several years. The drafts actually mean something as well. The baseball draft not so much.
It's not that easy my son tried out and the black coach for ten yr olds wouldn't take our money and tried to hide the practice to another gym like smh my son won the pitching ace trophy at his prior program as well so he knows the game and the coach just didn't want him and the coach my son played for in starrite city his son made the team and he knew my son can kick ass and he act like he didn't even know us wtf be going on sometimes well any way I hope their sons made it to the MLB smh
Why is it, there is never a conversation about why Black children finish dead last in academics?? I believe that would be a more fruitful conversation to have. I mean in the end like 98% of the Black Boys who play baseball though out their lives will never make any money from it.
Number one reason baseball is dangerous, for Dominicans it is intergraded to culture , you walk around a Dominican neighborhood they are selling used equipment, they have baseball clinics, For Boys and girls, in Bronx we had an extremely strong school yard culture, Stick ball was the king,
I grew up playing both, but for baseball you need more ppl. You can play basketball with a shitty $8 rubber ball and 1 person.
Baseball does little to promote the game to black kids who aren't Spanish.
Why the hell does the game have to promote it self to Black kids?? It does not promote it self to White kids, Asian kids.
