- Probably my favourite song from this play :) I used the soundtrack from the movie (The Phantom of the Opera from 2004). It's sung by Gerard Butler. Hope you like it :D The song is written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I don't own anything.

I absolutely love this version of this song. Gerard puts such soul into the lyrics. I mean, if I close my eyes and listen, it's almost a divine experience. Absolutely leaves me breathless.

This song is so beautiful, it makes me able to forget all the bad in the story, and this scene just becomes so perfect and romantic. I think the beauty of the night is underappreciated. I can almost see a blue and purple sky of stars rather than the catacombs rock-like ceiling. It's so magical and otherworldly. This is why I love fantasy music and anything that ignores cold reality.
This song makes me imagine my cat who always touch meh becomes human at night and sings this :/ but i guess it can be amazing of em to show me such beauty

Gerard Butler is absolutely magnificent as the Phantom. And, his singing opens your heart to the fate of the Phantom. Have seen many performances of the Phantom, and his the best!!
The orchestral part is much better than in the original version, except the very end, there the tempo is better in the original. The text is a bit changed. But. Gerald's voice is so much better, indescribably better than all the others who tried to sing it. Expresses perfectly EVERY SINGLE FEELING of this exceptional song. He sings clearly, deeply and extremely masculine. My new favourite for 4 days now, and became a record breaker this way. I am a music teacher. I know what I'm talking about. CONGRATULATIONS! 🥰🥰🥰
Granted I'm not a hard-core fan of the actual musical itself, but I still can't understand why people have a problem with this voice. For someone who hasn't even had training as far as song, this is beautiful
+Tobisaru I think people just get hung up with the fact he is an "untrained" singer. If this information hadn't aired out, I am sure more people would have been empathetic of his voice, which is absolutely great in my opinion. Tbh, I think he sings better than many "trained" singers.
Gerard practically went through what Erik himself went through because in the book, Erik had to learn music on his own and one of the many talents he learned well is singing. Gerard had to through vocal training like Erik so it's quite perfect.
@@jlvmb4180 Gerard Butler is much better than many trained musician singers! He has more skill than most actors ive heard! Noone should ever diss his rendition, yet i know some people dont respect true talent and haters abound all around us. Sad but true... true artists have many haters ;(
I think people that have watched the live version over the years are used to a higher octave. But Gerard does an excellent job with his range. I prefer this version because it is in a lower vocal range and there is more emotion in this version.
As a trained singer, I can definitely hear some novice issues with his technique, but it works so well that none of it matters.

we watched this at our girl's night for youth group a couple years ago, and i didn't make it past this song cuz i fell asleep listening to him sleep lol
Gerard literally nailed this, he gave the phantom the perfect voice, the type of voice that mysteriously lures you in, and leaves you earning for more, this is what the phantom was supposed to sound like, and even if he wasn't a trained singer, he was still able to give the character his characteristic voice. I cannot begin to understand why people hate this version sm. Gerard and Ramin are literally the best ones.
I keep coming back to this version gerald has certainly it the balance between perfect voice and the phantom I particularly like how he holds back and then blasts the high notes.. which imo is what the song needs.. went to see this at cinema and so glad I did.. micheal Crawford's comes close but its too theatrical and nasally.. but no harm in having another listen
I think i side with Michael Crawford,but I don't really see how anyone can critique Gerard Butler's singing here,it's different but still hits the right notes and conveys the correct depiction of the Phantom..And I'm sure MC gave it a 👍..

He is the best I’ve heard and I heard Antonio Banderas because he’s got a background in stage performance and Antonio sang with Sarah brightman one of the original Christine’s and ex wife of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Gerard is definitely the best his voice puts me in such a trance.

one of my favorite plays i was a fan of this the song phantom of the opera where the girl finally realizes its not a dream he is really there but only time her true voice comes out is when he is watching her listening to her and she always felt safe when the phantom was around she wasn't scared cause he was harmless if you seen the whole play from the original story plot it was suppose to be a suspense romantic action musical created for a feel good and find yourself just memorized as the girl is by the phantom but also curious about him who he really is why does he live there

His voice is so beautiful it reminds me of Victor Victor used to sing the song to me he is my soldier that never come back from overseas and I never seen him since because he's dead and I miss him so much because he used to sing this song to me every night to put me to sleep in that voice reminds me of his voice and every time I hear I cry because I miss him and I want him with me again

Both phantoms brought something different to the table, vocally and theatrically. I love how they each had their own interpretations, and yet still sounded beautiful, so its really a dead tie between the two. Both have beautiful voices, and both have skill. This song is one of the hardest study songs ive ever learned, and yet im glad i learned it because it opened so many doors for me vocally and theatrically. I dream of playing phantom on stage, it would be a lifetime achievement!! (and im more of an actor myself, yet i dream of playing phantom on stage!!!)
