i was able to rent a yaris 4 door for a week and drove from jaxsonville florida to fort lauderdale on vacation . i have to say it was an awsome ride great fuel i loved driving it . sllek and fast . not sure what the bad reviews are for .
I own this car. My only complain is an unconfortable soft gas pedal. Everything else in this CR review is BS. The engine is not loud. It makes some noise because it has a timing chain (not belt), which is better for me, since there is no need to change it. Handling and speed is great. Parking is great. It is difficult to change the cabin air filter, though. You need to remove the glove compartment to do it, which requires force. Overal, it is a great car.
Laughable review. I get 38 MPG highway commute, consistently - because I've mastered how to drive it (and no...not like an old man). Sure road noise is above normal, but you just turn up the radio. I had a mini cooper and in comparison, it's not a cooper, but it's still a sure handling, tight little car with no squeaks or rattles. Reliability is off the charts. just touch the key and it starts right up. My son is a Toyota mechanic at our local dealership, and let me know I scored a very solid car...they dont see many come in for repairs. BTW, I picked my up used, 12,000 miles out the door - $7200. Power windows, AC, AT PS PB. Happy as hell.
I currently have one as a rental in Florida. Its nothing fancy, but around the city it is peppy. Highway, however, not so much. I like the radio and find that it puts out ok sound. The biggest thing that bugs me, is no arm rest! Other than that, I don't mind it. I'm 6'3" and 250 pounds. I don't find it that cramped at all.
What is CR's beef with this car, there is another review of the 2007-2011 model and they rip it anew one as well. I own a 2010 2 door and I find it to be a great, reliable, cheap to run car. It does what it was designed to do.
CR hates the yaris from the first generation of which I own. Lies, this is a great car and rock solid reliability. This car is actually made in Japan unlike many Toyotas that come from the USA or Canada. I remember they also hated any and all Saturns in the 1990s. I owned two and they were fun quick and well made.
Consumer Reports I have come to realize I will be a much happier driver if I do the opposite of what you tell me or if I ignore you altogether. Thanks for being ignorant and biased! and it's Y-AH-ris not Y-air-is.
I own this car. For one, If the guy can't even pronounce it properly, How you can you take his advice? He doesn't even do his homework on the pronunciation of the name. Also, opinions are always going to be based on the person saying them. Just as I'm saying I love my car. That it's fun and gets around 35 MPG in city. That if I use premium gas it actually has a bit more pep than it originally lets on....
You say a Corolla is better I hope you mean the Manuel transmission one. The CVT Transmission on the Corollas are failing prematurely . The repair job is so expensive it may cost more than the car is worth . Maybe the Yaris doesn't handle as well but at least the automatic transmission works.
The first wave of CVTs (in all car brands) were timebombs. Some have improved with time, others not. Any standard/manual transmission is far superior to ANY CVT. Toyota always made bullet-proof 4 & 6 speed automatics....The Yaris SE (with the stick) is the BEST choice for handling, braking, practicality, reliability & FUN !
Haha, okay I'm all for honest reviews, but this guy literally had nothing positive to say at all. I'm not saying the review was biased, but it did leave that impression.
This review is very negative. I own this car (the L version) and have over 103,000 miles on it. I do take it to the dealership to service it every 5000 miles. The only thing I have had to to replace on the car was new tires and front headlamps! I still get 36mpg combined with this car. The one thing the reviewer is right about is the noise from the engine. But I always have my radio on so don't hear it! Other than that its a great little car! Hope to have it for another 100,000 miles. Will be sad to part with it!
What a poor review. "...Lighted at night...", I think the word you're looking for is illuminated. It's a great little car for the sector it is aimed at.
I don't know if you guys notice. But every Toyota review this guy do is so hateful (ok well..at least the ones I saw, maybe not "every"). Other reviewers have positive and negative.....somewhat evenly. But this guy....straight up Toyota hater haha.
i own a yaris and have to say, as much as i love my little cute car, many of the negative points he mentioned are very true about the Yaris. you will realize it when you test one yourself. He probably should have included the positive points too, as its reliable, fuel efficient, parking is a breeze, and good interior features. But for the asking price, there are other better options out there, like KIA Rio.
Knowing how to correctly pronounce (i.e. Yaris) the product you review might be a good start for ones credibility of the review. I had an 07 Yaris. I didn't buy it for all the thrills of a higher end vehicle. Yes, it sucked trying to get up the I-70 inclines through west Colorado but thats not why I bought it. I purchased it because it was easy, simple, cheap, and perfect to jot around the city and easy to park.
I just got a 2009 yaris today, I would say that its more like the Toyota echo, but larger and have a better interior design But seems to me that a lot of people are having trouble about the noisy engine and stiff steering wheel. The size doesn't matter especially for small people like me ;) My only concern is the noise of engine, is it bcoz of water pump or anything else? can anyone help me thanks
I have got the 1.33 aspiration deliverd in Holland the 6 speed transmission is very nice and keeps noise to a minimum, Tyres from France and NO SPORT SUSPENCION make it a very confy and silent ride. The skirts around the seats are truly not very nice. DO NOT ORDER THE SPORT SUSPENTION !!! My radio is compleetly different, there is bluetooth and a rearview camera in place. The extra´s like original allu weels are to expensive, shop around !! A beter ride than my last one !!
White03T4RV82WD Exactly! The 5 speed version I have is great! The only complaint I have is body lean in corners but there are suspension mods for that.
So I just drove an LE Trim today.. Yikes. First problem is I couldn't get comfortable in it. There's not enough adjustment in the seating position. And it really needs a Telescoping wheel as he said. The 4-speed sucks, first car I've driven with one and I wanted to murder it. The engine sounds like crap too. Honda Fit or Kia Rio FTW
This guy is really unprofessional...too much personal opinion all based upon things the car was not even intended to be about in the first place! Lame city!
I get the feeling this guy did not like the car, it is a fact that I don't see many of the new gen Yaris around, while there are tons of the previous model around.
Nicer? The corolla is the same plastic POS. It may look better, but it's still plastic and small. I'm 5'7" and I cannot fit in a corolla. What about the yaris lol I'd take the chevy sonic
He finally says the name of the car right at 02:31. It is supposed to be Yar-is, and not Yair-is, right? Otherwise, I have to agree with him on the review. The Yaris is very cheap and not that great to drive. I'm 6'2" and the driving position was awkward. It got excellent gas mileage, but not any better than the Corolla which was better to drive.
These were the same complaints that were made with the previous model, so Toyota did nothing to address such issues, they just made it more expensive, Geez, Toyota are you trying to emulate Honda?
How the fuck do i reset the fm radio stations? I just got this car and the stations wont go past like 90.1 or something. How do i get the rest of them?
The yaris, matrix, corolla, all need a complete redesign. They are all boring, not fun to drive, extremely cheap inside and out as well as overpriced. The competition especially hyundai has surpassed them in all the fields. Toyota just cant make a nice car that is fun to drive it is not in their dna.
toyota doesnt know how to make stylish cars. with any of their cars. even the larger and more expensive sedans or SUVs the Avalon, Sequoia, 4Runner, and more hopefully the upcoming redesign Avalon changes that
Since CR does not accept ads, what possible motivation would they have??! They buy their cars at dealers and drive them for 1000s of miles before reporting. If the car is rubbish, they say so, if it's good, they say so.
i agree is a cheap car for 17,000 thats crazy i can get a bigger versa or sentra with better equipment for 16000 toyota you suck now you need to update those cars
I drive a 2008 Toyota Yaris 4 door and I hate the car, the interior is cheap toy like plastic, the safety is the lowest in class one and a half star rating. I am never by another Toyota my car is full of recalls that the dealerships will lie to charge for more parts I do not need. My next car will be Accent or Fit.
I disagree with cr. Its a great car.The guy just doesn't like it period. The car is roomy and very good on gas.
Im 58 years old..had alot of cars.....this is my favorite.... NEVER been in for a single repair.....120 k miles..
i was able to rent a yaris 4 door for a week and drove from jaxsonville florida to fort lauderdale on vacation . i have to say it was an awsome ride great fuel i loved driving it . sllek and fast . not sure what the bad reviews are for .

I love this car I have a 2008 with 120,000 runs and drives like new love it
This guy just hates the Yaris period!
He is a white guy with girl problem.just wnt to take it out on my toyota brand
I currently have one as a rental in Florida. Its nothing fancy, but around the city it is peppy. Highway, however, not so much. I like the radio and find that it puts out ok sound. Would it surprise you to know CR rated the ECHO higher, and recommended it as well?
CR hates the yaris from the first generation of which I own. Lies, this is a great car and rock solid reliability. This car is actually made in Japan unlike many Toyotas that come from the USA or Canada.
I remember they also hated any and all Saturns in the 1990s. I owned two and they were fun quick and well made.
auxmike Actually, the 2014 Yaris was made in France. At least the one I'm picking up in Ontario, Canada. Could be different elsewhere for all I know!
But the Yaris (and all Toyotas btw) are really really reliable.
did not say anything about much higher warranty and reliability that rivals
Consumer Reports I have come to realize I will be a much happier driver if I do the opposite of what you tell me or if I ignore you altogether. Thanks for being ignorant and biased! and it's Y-AH-ris not Y-air-is.

32 mpg? You really need to push a car like this hard to get that bad fuel economy.
What a poor review. "...Lighted at night...", I think the word you're looking for is illuminated. It's a great little car for the sector it is aimed at.
I don't even like the Yaris but damn he hates it lol
funny how this guy has nothing good to say about the car...just read 3 GOOD reviews...
review sounds very biased, I wonder how much he got paid for this review..
How are the buttons hard to read? You already have freaking glasses, seems like you need a telescope bud.
Smooth Operator lol

stop complaining. its a budget, economy car. what can you expect?
I just got a 2009 yaris today, I would say that its more like the Toyota echo, but larger and have a better interior design

They should have tested the SE model. That should handle better.
And brake better---with 4 discs.
or Honda Fit or Ford Fiesta, which are the top 2 subcompact cars in its class
whats the point of making the yaris other than the price difference with the prius c?
I bought one for a girl a few years ago and it was only $11590 new... I drove it once and it was loud but not uncomfortable.
Does it have AM and FM?
This review is bullcrap.
I have got the 1.33 aspiration deliverd in Holland the 6 speed transmission is very nice and keeps noise to a minimum, Tyres from France and NO SPORT SUSPENCION

Corolla also has a 4 speed auto and its engine is not as durable as the Yaris 1.5 motor.
stop complaining. its a budget, economy car that can take you from point A to point B
@techdude6693 thats why theres a 5 speed
White03T4RV82WD Exactly! The 5 speed version I have is great! The only complaint I have is body lean in corners but there are suspension mods for that.
Walt from Breaking Bad drives one. That makes the Yaris bad ass.
How do I apply to become a car reviewer? I'm completely serious.
So I just drove an LE Trim today.. Yikes. First problem is I couldn't get comfortable in it. There's not enough adjustment in the seating position. And it really needs a Telescoping wheel as he said. Thank you for the honest review. I don't understand why cars getting more and more expensive, even the cheapest model.
These were the same complaints that were made with the previous model, so Toyota did nothing to address such issues, they just made it more expensive, Geez, Toyota are you trying to emulate Honda?
BS review
Maybe you havent driven a car with a good cvt. Try nissan or subaru they have good cvts so does suzuki.
Anti import propaganda
How the fuck do i reset the fm radio stations? I just got this car and the stations wont go past like 90.1 or something. How do i get the rest of them?
Try reading your OWNERS MANUAL.
this guy must hate the yaris.. i dont think its that bad of a car... :L but i would obviously pay more and get something like mazda 3
No armrest!
But it's more expensive as well.
yeris
haha this guy pronounce's Yaris weird!
So... buy a used car?
The yaris, matrix, corolla, all need a complete redesign. They are all boring, not fun to drive, extremely cheap inside and out as well as overpriced. The competition especially hyundai has surpassed them in all the fields. Toyota just cant make a nice car that is fun to drive it is not in their dna.
If you want leather and wood inside then splurge on a Rolls or a Bentley, What car today isn't all plastic?? and cheap plastic as it is.
but not a fan.
This doesnt have taste in choosing a car...
toyota doesnt know how to make stylish cars. with any of their cars. even the larger and more expensive sedans or SUVs
the Avalon, Sequoia, 4Runner, and more
hopefully the upcoming redesign Avalon changes that
worst review ever!!!
I dont know why toyota always has that poor kind of radio and control panel, reliable cars but ugly interior...
I'd buy a Nissan Versa (sedan or hatchback), a Honda Fit, a Hyundai Accent, a Kia Rio, or a Chevrolet Sonic over a Yaris.
this guy just ripped yaris a new one :) love his review
Yea, the Fit and Fiesta are miles ahead of this thing. The only car worse is the Mirage.
not really. i wouldn't be caught dead driving a yaris.. unsightly thing
Since CR does not accept ads, what possible motivation would they have??! They buy their cars at dealers and drive them for 1000s of miles before reporting. If the car is rubbish, they say so, if it's good, they say so.
i agree is a cheap car for 17,000 thats crazy
i can get a bigger versa or sentra with better equipment for 16000

bad yaris
It's ugly
