In town, I actually prefer my old 2006 1.0 to my 2015 1.33. I don't know... The older feels lighter and the steering wheel is thicker and better in hand...I wish yaris had a steering wheel that you can grab in middle bottom. Even the new one doesn't have an open bottom steering wheel. It's just... Reliable, nice speakers, funky cabin looks, but I'd rather them change the steering wheel
Best cars ever made, from Australia and i have the 2012 hatchback 3 door 1.5 ZR 300,000 with no issues at all, no rust, no mechanical issues whatsoever, very Zippy with the 5 speed manual
Will 2nd TheCarCareNut is a toyota mechanic on youtube. He did a review of the Yaris and says the wires and controls for the cruise control and there standard, just need to add the switch. Pretty sure that is what he said. He knows his stuff. Also has a good post on Trans Fluid service. Motor head about to buy my 1st yaris. I like your review very much, one of the best. I trust TheCarCareNut.
these cars last forever, we had one for 7 years and it did fantastic service for our family, now we have to change because the Yaris itself has become too small for us, zero problems, frequent oil changes, a new battery and 5 clean ones for front windshields, I have to say that the fact that the front windshield wiper is a single arm was in itself the only fault I detected, as it wears out very quickly and I had to replace it with a new one, but the repair was cheap, I highly recommend a car like this
I have a 2008 Toyota Yaris hatchback with 72,000 miles on it. I’m not familiar with the newer ones but I couldn’t be happier with mine. Mine is the most basic. No power Windows or door locks. No cruise control. I installed a backup camera and Leather-like seat covers along with remote start. I too miss the cruise control but that can be installed with an after market kit. No major repairs needed. Just routine oil changes; brake pad replacements; new tires and a new battery. Always a place to park. Fun and easy to drive. Good on gas. Only downside is stay away from semi trucks 🚛 and I imagine because of its size you wouldn’t fair well in an accident but nothing is perfect!
I had some cars in my days, and with them headaches and $$$ repairs. Every once in a while something broke down and had to be replaced or repaired. My pal had a Yaris 2013 1.33, then got a 2015 RAV4, old 2001 Corolla for work, and then his family got a 2009 1.33 and a 2015 1.33 Yaris. The comfort, reliability was off the charts. So I got me a 2013 MT6 1.33 Yaris. Then financial issues came, and after just a few months, I had to sell it. since then, I had a 2006 1.0 Yaris. Loved it, crashed it, sold it. Recently, I got a 2015 Yaris 1.33 MT6 in the highest possible trim possible (only missing heated seats, dammit!!!). Just 37,000 miles, some scratches in and out, but nothing major. LOVE IT!!! Boring af to drive, but comfy and I think the 4 cylinder 1.33 was since 2010 a proven engine for reliability. But yes, Id switch the BT, light and rain sensor for heated seats in winter any day!!! Drive is boring,m not fiesta like. Interior isnt as posch as VW Polo, but....its nicer to look at and even after 10 years, nothing creaks or squals. Even the older 2006 Yaris, with the cheapest hard plastics imaginable, like it was made out of the same as a garbage bin for the kitchen, had 0 issues. Reliability > fun drive
@@ancientslav4863 I sometimes drive my 2008 1.3 yaris hard, and I have the tyres squeal as I lean hard in corners, so I'd say it's how you drive it. My advice is to drive it on some back roads or somewhere where you can make mistakes, and push the hell out of it. Find out how much steering input on what surface and at what speed it starts to oversteer. Just heep in mind that you have to adjust to conditions, and retest everytime you change tyres. I push it hard daily, and it's alot more fun to drive hard a slow car. And from time to time I push it well over the limit, and I usually oversteer, but correct it very fast. Just be mindful of other traffic participants and push it over the limit when it's light to no traffic, or off public roads if that's possible.
My wife has owned a 2014 auto 1.3 Yaris for 18 months and it's just on 21,000 miles, and It does have cruise control and satnav. She bought it to replace an IQ because the Yaris offers a much better ride, especially on our broken British roads. It has a good sized boot and, when necessary you can carry two adults in the rear. I'm 6' 4" and found both the IQ and Yaris very comfortable no matter how long the journey, and I find myself using my wife's car more than my RAV4. The only real niggle she's had has been a leaking aircon condenser which was picked up at the last service and replaced. Having it serviced at Toyota meant that it received a 12-month warranty each time (up to 10-years-old or 100K miles). The car is now just 10-years-old and so this was the final year she received the Toyota warranty. The annual mileage is always quite low so now she probably only needs it servicing every two years, which I can do myself or take to our local garage for around £120. Also, the road tax on the Yaris is only £35 per year, which is a terrific saving. It may not be as trendy or as good looking as a Fiat 500 or Alfa Mito but there seem to be more Yarises on the road than any other car, so they must be pretty bulletproof. I do like the styling of my wife's one more than the latest Yaris models but reliability was the main factor when choosing the car.
We bought a 2017 Yaris brand new. Just checked your suggested rust / corrosion areas ... happily none at all. We love this Yaris ... cheap. easy to drive. In it's seven years with us we have had to replace one rear axle bearing. Nothing else other than tires and a couple of batteries.
They do seem to have got on top of the rust proofing now. Yaris now replaced with a 2019 Corolla and no issues to report. We had a broken n/s front spring on the Yaris, otherwise nothing really.
Nice to see another yaris owner got a 1.4D manual has great pull and cruise control for them them motorway trips can't ask for more from a cheap daily driver
We have a mk3 hybrid, (late 2014), we’ve done 135,000 miles in it and happy to report very similar findings to yours. One of our rear Dunlops did over 100,000 miles before being changed which was ridiculous. As it’s a hybrid and engine breaks a lot, the break pads and discs also didn’t need changing until well over 100,000 miles. One pain though was the 12v battery, it died and started smelling bad and is located under the rear seats. It’s a more specialised size so needed to replace through the dealership. Great car though and very easy to drive!
Hope it helps 👍 Great car the MK3, really enjoyed it, only moved on as we needed a bigger car. Enjoy your first car, and if you can, never sell it. You’ll thank yourself one day 😎
Just got a 2017 to replace my 2007 Matrix and I love it. The Matrix feels like a luxury truck in comparison - but Im loving this little thing. Priorities were a low monthly loan payment and having a reliable car. There isn't more car than I need. I feel like people pay for all of this horsepower and SUV size - and never really use any of that stuff. I live just outside of a city. I drive in for work. Occasionally Ill take a two hour trip to see my family. For all that - this car rules.
I don’t get people paying big $$bucks for cars either. Much better to enjoy a cheap and cheerful car than stress every time you take out an expensive one??!!
you can buy cruise control and it's easy to install it has all the drillings pre made and the connector to, i installed mine on same yaris same year just in 20 minutes
I have the same 1NR-FE engine in my Mk2, and since the pistons are badly designed, the rings cake up and the engine burns quite a bit of oil. I'm surprised yours doesn't burn oil. Perhaps the motor was redesigned in the Mk3.
I have a yaris Y.O.M 2012. It's quite basic, actually it's the basic version of the yaris 996cc. I love it. It serves me quite well for the urban drives.
How is the engine treating you? Any issues? How is overall acceleration? I know it's not gonna be a sports car but is it enough for the motorway? I'm currently driving a 1.8 Vauxhall Tigra and am planning to downsize due to the high fuel costs so something like this would be great
@@TheLiquidlane it's extremely reliable and cheap to maintain. Yes it's enough for a motorway but note this... It's quite slow on acceleration. Going uphill is also a big deal for it. I have a 2008 with the 1.3 single vvti, not the 1.33 dual vvti, and I only do city trips. Quite congested town, and I do between 280 to 300 miles per tank, depending on how long I have to idle and how aggressive I drive off at the light. The refill is 37 liters +/- 0.2 liters. So the calculations from full to full on my car is 35-37mpg with only city driving. I can do worse than that if I drive off very aggressive and rev it untill it screams toyota-ta-ta-ta, and nearly hit the speed limit in 1st gear.
