When I was a kid, any time we went through Salem, I'd have my eyes peeled for any trains. But I never got to see one moving. Just parked cars at Grossmans and behind. It bums me out that all of this is gone, but I still have hope that one day the M&L will be revived as commuter rail. It's just such a no-brainer that it has to happen eventually.
That was really nice to see GTI operations around Lawrence and Salem. I'm not familiar with Lawrence except occasional drives along the canal, which I always thought would be a great place to photograph or video RR moves.
I actually talked to a guy today about that...he described the location, but I'm not familiar with the area. It is in Lawrence and it splits from the Main near where the tower used to be. It is also still in service, but sees only occasional use. I bet if you use Google Earth you could find it. Craig
The taller masts and longer crossbuck blades were common on the B&M system until just about 1986, when other shortlines and Guilford started to outfit crossings with newer, more compliant signaling.

Love seeing the baby boats in service
Love that sound! Thanks for posting!
tidy little trains sneaking around tight spaces in the fall colors. Gotta love the North East.
You just have to love this little puttering U18Bs. Mr. Ouellette always seemed to know where to point the camera.
The only Maine Central U18b to be refitted with the short nose from a U25b.

I have a train channel (not this one) and I'd love to get a video of lowell hill in use. I've driven by before and it looks like such a cool setup!

If i didn't know better i would probably say that used to be a wig wag signal mast.

Is that a rebuild? EMD trucks...
Steven Michael Hi Steven, They were delivered brand new with the blomberg trucks, I don't believe any EMD's were traded towards them either. Craig
The P&W U18 is now on the Naugatuck Tourist Railroad as one of their main locomotives. It's in CT.
