- Portland & Western Rail Road [PNWR] 1501 switching cars at Albany OR. on 18-April & 20-April-2011.
1501 is an SD7 built in November 1952 at La Grange Illinois by EMD for the Southern Pacific. The locomotive has a 16 cylinder 567 prime mover producing 1500 HP.
A filthy 567 long hood leading is what it is all about - thou hast class and style!
Fabulous old work horse still doing a great job after 60 years on the rails!
Nice to see one that is still in operation that doesn't have a chopped nose. SD7 and SD9 locomotives are among the most beautiful locomotives ever built!!!
I agree! They're my top favs!
Jerry Rudd Agreed
Benjamin Esposti They should paint it Grey and black battleship Cammo!
I love how they sound. I hear them every day as a kid. Southern Pacific started using them between S.F. and San Jose commuter runs in the late 60's.
Any one have a reference to a chop nose SD7 or 9? I've never even heard of one.
I have to admit that I admire these guys. All the comments below about track and loco all make the point that the railroad is being run on a minimum budget but yet the Engineer and Switchman know what speed they can pull and push those cars and still be safe. A P&W switching layout with UP mainline running past would certainly be fun - I just suspect I'd wreck more cars than the professionals do trying to switch at that speed! Having to race from end-to-end on a quad-bike must be a bit different to mainline switching too!
Her 567 sounds wonderful!
SO AWESOME to see an old Espee Cadillac STILL working the rails!!
..... and with the old "BLAT" horns!!! Priceless!
This was the second SD7 delivered to the SP in 1952 I recently found out.
adam hinkle Interesting, I wasn't aware of that. Good to see her still running. Thanks Adam.
+Metro Vick no problem.
Marvelous machine hard at work. I need to weather my SD9 to look like that one. Thanks for sharing.
gota love those twin gyralights!
It’s aSD 7. Gfyralights were standard.
Know that 567 sound so well. It's just the 710 and 645 series power units now.
Great catch...the weathering on that engine is sublime!
You ain't lying about the weathering. And is any of that original SP paint or just later painted a similar color?

Old "Cadillac" still working when many far newer locomotives have made a one way trip to the scrapper.
Love me an earful of 567 ♥️
I saw this old girl working the yard today at Queen and decided to look her up when I got home. Thanks for the video.
+seabulls69 Glad to hear she is still running.

+Amtrak508 It's sad.
At 4:49 is that an Albany and Eastern train in the background?
No, it was actually a UP GP39 on a local doing some switching.
Hi Dave from Oregon what size engine is iin this video I want to model P & W in a HO Scale freight yard thanks Dave from Oregon

awesome video but bad yard track 😊
Look at that track its needs to be fixd
QUESTION Does anyone know if a person can get a engine in Ho Scale painted in Portland and Western I want to model P & W as my layout
thanks Dave in Oregon
Random question. Do you know if they still run trains on that single line that runs south from Albany to Eugene? This is the on that actually crosses Hwy 34 at grade.
Hi. As far as I'm aware, the PNWR operate a local from Albany to Eugene. I havent been in OR since 2011 so I'm a little out of touch. I have uploaded a video of the train in question crossing HY34 back in 2007.
Oh sorry Vick, I forgot that it was actually you who told me before that you haven't been in this area for awhile !!!!
Talk about some HORRIBLE tracks!!! Great video tho'...! thx!
+Vince Tell Metro Vick I said "Hi.
+Josiah “lukie” Duarte Hi

What kind of horn?
No idea. Sorry
Nathan M3
Good old sp engine
that engine needs a bigger diesel tanker
look at that crooked track!
This motor got an EPA death sentence, to be scrapped if itxaib't already.
That would be a real shame..it must be one of the oldest working locomotives in the US.
It's a sd7
Does this company not have enough money to paint this poor engine? Geez.
