The best sounding locos anywhere. Powerful stuff. Love that there are a few still at work across Ireland. Thanks for sharing these amazing trains and shame on me for taking 11 whole years to recognise all the hard work.
great video metrovick you really captured those 071s in all their power and might. The sound of them locos always bring back fond memories of my childhood climbing up and down the railway embankment at the back of Croke Park when in the evening time and well into the early hours they would thunder past every 15-20 minutes. They would climb up from north wall and the docks making that thundering sound and you could hear them going for miles and miles. Thanks a lot for the memories
Wow! That's really great to hear! I had basically dropped Ireland from my world-wide EMD watch after hearing (thankfully incorrectly) that the older EMDs had been retired or painted into that awful yellow and black scheme. Thank you for taking the time to answer my queries.

October 2012
Thank you that is amazing..
Thanks for that! Are they all still in action? I had the idea that one or two of them are laid up?
Are these EMDs still in service? I was in Ireland in 2009 and 2010 and never saw any freight trains.
Keith Ode They are all in service. Most of the eighteen have been give full body overhauls lately.
That's good to know! I take it none are in the orange and black paint scheme?
Keith Ode 071 & 073 have been repainted in heratige orange liveries.
