My sister worked holiday overnight at Childworld Toys (Now Christmas Tree Shops) in 1987. She recalls vividly the smell of freight trains packed with manure coming through late at night; They probably did that because that smell would drive away customers from other Salem businesses like Denny's or McDonald's, during the day.
I believe it was an wooden Auto racing track for the first 10 or 15 years of existence, at least until like 1926, I remember reading it was a very dangerous course for Championship Car drivers (IndyCar) with several deaths
