This is a small view of what the Lebanese people have been enduring for the last three years. Whether it is the pandemic, the local currency losing 90% of its value, months of savings stuck inaccessible in banks, food and fuel shortages, or the Beirut explosion, the Lebanese people are going through their hardest time ever. Thank you Vice for showcasing a small part of the daily Lebanese struggle sadly ignored by international media.
I am not always a big fan of Vice but I love the way munchies does these documentaries. This video especially I liked seeing - my family are Armenians from Iraq and seeing the representation and voice you give to the people of those communities is great (I am the same ethnic mix as Semaan which was awesome to see as well.)
This is amazing. What I keep coming back to is that everyone Giles spoke to are really seen by him. He looks like he sees everything they do and understands 100%. I hope to see more documentaries by him
The conversation in the first few minutes was so deep. Through eye contact and sharing of experiences, their words felt raw and beyond powerful. I'm watching the One Armed Chef series for the 3rd time and still find them fascinating, emotional, and filled with integrity.
I'm glad to meet the nice people of Lebanon by the documentary. Thank you a lot for this opportunity chef, Giles Duley. 🙏🏻 One thing is very touched my heart; was the chat with Aline. I have an Armenian heritage which is from my father's side. They are the ones who stayed and assimilated. And always difficult has been talking about the genocide with them. This is generational trauma for us. I don't know that is when we can able to do talk and mourn our suffering. 💔 Having seen this table with the awesome Armenian foods on it, made me feel at home. 🥰 Thanks a lot for all of these memories which are felt part of the familiar suffering. It's mean a lot to me. Greetings from Turkey. ❤🇹🇷
I loved everything about this, but especially the down to earth people you introduced in this episode. It is so sad to see the suffering these people have gone through. May God Bless all of you!
Thank you for doing more than a cooking show....I love food for the way that it brings people together, for the way that it connects families, and for the memories it keeps alive, but even more than food, I love people. And you have showcased the beauty of people from all around the world in ways that no one else has ever done. We get to see their beauty, their pain and sorrows, their joys, and most importantly, their humanity that connects us all. You were saved for a reason, and I believe bringing this glimpse of humanity to the world right now is that reason. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for revealing my own prejudices and sometimes hardened heart. Yet, in spite of those things you have awakened my compassion and love for the beauty of my fellow human beings who are truly created in the image of God. My heartfelt prayers and admiration go out to the beautiful people of Beirut, and the country of Lebanon. May their land and their country be healed and their hearts and lives as well. Thank you so much Giles. You are a one armed warrior in this fight we call life.
My father is from Lebanon. We plan on visiting in the summer. I feel terrible watching this knowing that the city he grew up in is crumbling. Lebanon has always been a beacon of hope & pride, now it feels like all of that is lost. Something needs to be done to help this country.
Giles, as always, a fantastic documentary! My thoughts and prayers are with the resilient, strong and beautiful people of Lebanon! I hope so much, that better times will come for this wonderful country and its equally wonderful people! Greetings from Germany
I am blown away I have never seen this AMAZING journey beautiful soul on this host. Hopefully we’ll get to see more of this journalist Much love from your Russian friends
Absolutely amazing Vice, so well done. I really enjoyed watching this. After all that has been happening in the world its true that food is what should bring use together. Please do more videos with the one armed chef!!! He is great
Giles Duley is such an inspiration, just love this guy. What an exemple of resilience, but even more, seing this man enjoying life despite of all - waouh, I just don't know how to say my admiration. Respect !!! And this video is great, thanks for sharing.
Such a love letter to Beirut, a love letter to life. I had tears, or goose flesh, and this more than once. I will start the film, after having been linked to 24 min or so directly via FB. Keep on going Mister Duley 💙💯💫🤍❣
I’ve been to the Mayrig location in Yerevan. The cherry kabob is perhaps the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten. I wish them nothing but the best going forward.
I lived in Lebanon until last June. I have many happy memories in Beirut, including celebrating my birthday at Mayrig in 2020 before the blast. I hope every politician linked to the explosion rots in hell.
Thankyou for sharing these stories, the kind that mainstream media ignores 🤨 I'd watch the news if there was more of this being shared 🤗 Beautifully heart-warming and informative 🤘💜🤘 🦘🇦🇺🦘
Our history is much the same, sans the trauma. I’m two years bed ridden now. Can’t walk, physical therapy is now saying I can get a wheelchair. My son has to pick up daddy anywhere I go. He’s very embarrassed by that. I’ve had 35 surgical procedures. I’m actually frightened to get out. What larks, Pip, what larks?
I don't know why but I needed to watch this, if it was the host who kept me entertain and hit me with interest. To the guest just talking about food and eating a meal. Not just eating but sitting down talk and enjoy a great meal, during a hard time.
When I’m cooking for my family, I feel my mom and grandma with me. When a dish takes hours to make and is gone in minutes, I used to get annoyed, now I am grateful. I hope they will remember the love when they cook for others.
at a buffet, i personally sneak corndogs into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. it then, is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the buffe
Looking at the explosion in the beginning, I can’t even fathom the extend of the suffering of Ukrainian being bombed by Russia. Please just stop all the despicable warfare. It’s just selfish to take away other life and livelihood. Is this the future that we are going to leave for our children? Make love and peace though food

Holy fuck, this was incredible content... this guy should have a show on Netflix.
Amazing show, Vice should be doing more heartfelt content like this.
Vice does this type of content all the time though?
I can see the beauty through the pain ❤️
This is probably the most compelling concept for a travel/food program I’ve seen since No Reservations. Brilliant and super timely. 👌🏼

Amazing show, with amazing people and amazing theme, thank you.
Inspiring and uplifting in times of darkness... Good shit right here.
