I swear, I learned so much more out of this than by following the news the last weeks. Amazing how food can explain so much about the people and their culture, how people feel and what they think. Maybe the only positive about the situation in Ukraine right now is, that it redefines and strengthens their national self-esteem. I wish the people of Ukraine all the best and stay safe.
When you see this you can totally understand Ukranian nationalism. And why they hate Russia, not just because of Putin but hundreds of years of opression. Russian state tv calling them neo-nazi’s is so degrading. And this is exactly why Russia will not win, because of the deep hatred of Ukrania for the invader. They will fight for their indipendence till the last person standing.
@@lunaandstella825 I’ve been to Ukraine 3 years. I’ve had a gun held to me by customs officers. For no other reason than I’m not white. I’ve seen the neo nazis patrolling the streets. Try telling me this not real. It’s 100% real. They have a serious neo nazi issue in the borscht eating community
Extremely hard watching this knowing what is happening now and not knowing what happened to the people interviewed. I hope the driver was able to get his kids out and he is ok aswel.
Man, hearing all the civilians talk about just wanting peace and knowing that Russia has just recently started moving it's troops into the Donbass area.. Edit: just binged-watched all of it in one sitting. This was gripping, very well done. Thank you for documenting this.
I'm polish and we always have borscht for Easter. We have our own way of making, we incorporate our sour cream into the soup before served. We cut up hard boiled egg, ham and homemade sausage then pour our soup over. Our soup has the best and onions, sour cream and butter in it. So good and so many memories.
I'm English and I visited Poland for 11 days with my friend who's from there. I absolutely loved it and the fresh delicious produce/meals was great. Home cooked borscht, absolutely delicious and the potatoes over there are really yellow and waxy. Really nice.

The One Armed Chef has some amazing photos and seems a skilled chef. He must have seen and experienced a bunch of good and bad things in his journeys. Was fun to watch. Great video
Super! But why is Crimea shown on the map at 1:07 separated from the rest of Ukraine? Just because Russia claims it through occupation, which hasn't been recognised by a single UN member state, doesn't make it not Ukraine.

I wish continents were much smaller and we could able to travel to Ukraine and standby all means or travel to Russia and requested Putin to stop the war or we find middle way to just live!!!
It's very big differences. One thing may be an answer to everything: Ukraine never wanted to occupate some territories wich are not belongs to it for the whole our history from Antes and Kyivan Rus' to Modern Ukraine. We are good on our own territory, but Russia wants to absorb everything like "Golden Horde". Russian culture atrinutes are almost everything they has stoled from other nations or countries. Ukraine are mostly mononational country with old cultural identity. Russia has many nations on there own territory, many languages, religions. Soviet Union was a "Jail of nations" and Russia is take this title. There are still many nations inside Russia that are has no reasons to be in one counrty. This is an Imperial type with one dictator. Ukrainians are has more similar whith each other, one culture, songs, cuisine, poetry, national atributes, ethnical clothes, agricultural love to own land. We are formed and have grown up here which is more Slavic culture and European type of mentality , who are eat, drink and play on this land that has much more differences that Russia: like natural environment(habitat), weather differences, plants, mentality, type of family, equality between woman and man. That is makes a big sense in cuisine and ideology. We are mostly don't like a state power and if we don't like it we can say, but Russian will be listen everysingle "heads" from Moscow, we are perceive our officials on one level and can say everything in face! It was in Cossack's state and it's relate to us. Look at "Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks" and it will describe more. By the way there are you will see our both flags: 💙💛 and ❤️🖤. And look at "Barge Haulers on the Volga " this is type of mentality in Russia. When Russia or Moscovia has occupated our territory for 300 years it was big cultural appropriation. So many thing Russia sad that is belong to them, but it's our own, so we can prove it. Russians like to be slaves and try to tell for the whole world that is good! Ukrainians love their own freedom and we'll be resist to any kind of slavery. You can google differences) We are now try to return our genetic roots to know ourselfs better, because we were under occupation last 300 years and fightting for our freedom. Wnen Russia begins a Russo-Ukrainian War in 2014 by occupation of Crimea and attacked parts in East of Ukraine so the a firm national question arose. Many people were like a "Soviet nation", when your language. history, nationality are erased. That's why Russia stoled many from Ukraine but we don't give it and be resist on every front! Russia will be glad to has some Ukrainian federal state or some kind of that, like a Britain has a Scotland with their own culture, but everything we know about Scotlands is: scottish skirts, bagpipe and a good whiskey!
Both countries are multinational,so it depends on which culture exectly you are speaking of. If we are taking only slavic culture-most russians and ukranians are orthodox christians. The western part of Ukraine are mostly catholic people like polish, romanian and hungarian neighbors. You should read about history of both countries to understand similiarities and differences.
