You feel that vibration? Well that was normal back then. At idle you should not be able to see anything in your mirror. A complete boneshaker....But better than a 70's sportster!
Wow! That was a great vid Rick. Having owned an exact 85 just like that one, I was smiling ear to ear watching the entire thing. Cool that you had one of your Dad’s old shirts for first ride. Great camera and sound work, I felt like I was 19 again riding mine in 87. Clean the carb, yes, find that high octane fuel somewhere and get some tires, and your good to go. Thanks for this and looking forward to many more. I used to stare at mine and listen to “ting” after a ride too!
I remember owning an 81 Ironhead. Swapped pretty much everything I could to get it more reliable. Then as soon as it was I put it in a corner and refused to look at it incase it broke :D great vid. Love your work.
Mine seems like a fairly sorted out machine. Hopefully it will provide miles of trouble free riding. Thanks for telling me about the one you had. Those are the best comments.
The first and only motorcycle I ever bought new was a '77 Super Glide. I rode the wheels off it for the first 20 years and then parked it with the occasional ride for the next 20 years before finally selling it. My knees hated it and the older I got, the more I wished I'd sprung for the FXE with its electric start.
I’m possibly about swap my restored 1978 Triumph T140E for a very clean, original condition 1985 sportster xlx in black with 7612 miles on it……I’ll keep you posted if you like…..
High octane isn't going to benefit the bike at all. Ethanol free, yes, but they aren't high comp engines. But yes, even 87 ethanol free is hard to find here in Texas sometimes.
@freemansgarage Yeah they're always few and far between. I keep a 5 gallon jug of it around, but I really only get ethanol free if I'm close to it. Keeps my lawnmower carb from gumming up, though. I usually dump some seafoam in my KLR tank to keep it stabilized.
Could you tell me the production date of your 85 Sportster ? Mine was made in November of 84 and I wonder which Fender goes on the front of mine they switched over around that time I see that you have the full fender with the struts. Please let me know thank you
Here's the video I mentioned ruclips.net/video/yw_dsVG_w6E/видео.html
I have the same exact one replaced the handlebar. I love it!
That’s awesome. I hope you get to enjoy your bike for a long time.

Boneshaker is spot on & I love it. Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment.

I'm glad you got enjoyment out of the video. Thanks for the info & the nice comments! More to come.
Nice bike you got there Ricky. looks like you got a good deal.
Thank you. I think so.
Why do people need to shut the run switch off? Just leave it on so then all you got to do is turn the key and hit the button. Maybe it's just me
I'm not sure. You make sense.

Nice ride , thanks for sharing it
You bet. Thanks for watching these videos since the beginning.
Hi Rick, im not a Harley rider but I enjoyed watching the central Texas countryside go by while you were on your ride. 🙂
It's good to hear you enjoyed it. I try to make these videos in a way anyone could enjoy watching them.
@@freemansgarage I am looking forward to another video on the 56 Chevy
@@johnmahaffey8651 Me too. I'm working on it as quickly as the budget allows.

Those dang knees. They get the best of us. Thanks for sharing.
Sure was a great day for a ride! I love seeing old filler stations like that texaco.
Not too hot, not too cold. The imaginary line between public & private property was a little blurry so I kept moving. I wanted to stop though.
Very cool bro. You’re a legit bada**.
Thanks for the compliment
Nice bike you got there Ricky, Looks like you got a good deal on it. Long ride to N-Dak.
Thanks! That ride has been on my mind.
Could you make video how to change the oil? Please
I plan on it. Can’t make any guarantees of when or if though. I appreciate you watching the videos.
My main bike is a big ole Fat Boy but still love my 85 Ironhead
That’s awesome.
have one in England.

I cant part with this one. Thanks for the offer though.
@@freemansgarage it wasn’t an offer……I live in France…….I’ve found one to do a deal…….
@@BLUESBOYBENFIELD I read wrong. Yes, let me know what you decide to do. I hope it works out for you.

I appreciate the helpful comment. I finally found 87 ethanol free at a brand new Murphy USA. It’s not close to home though.

If you bought it used, its not "one owner" anymore.
That is true.

I responded to your other comment but I’ll put it here for good measure. I want to make sure you see it. 09 84.
