I have both games for PS4 standard and a Logitec G29 Wheel. In summary the differences are: WRC8: Carrier Mode - Dirt 2.0 don't have a chance on this Official Cars - For the purists, it is a must Better Stage Design - The stages are not 1:1 from the real ones, but they are much more emersive More Stages than Dirt 2.0 - A lot more, and official Better Tarmac driving - It feels right Better Force Feedback - Compared with Dirt 2.0 it just feels more realistic, you can really notice the difference when aquaplaning or if you're on whet tarmac. Slightly Better Car Adjustments - You can change almost everything Dynamic Whether - The weather transition feels so smooth and can give you a different driving experience Rain Impacts a lot - Better driving experience on rain than Dirt 2.0, is feels more realistic overall Dirt 2.0: Better Sound - You can distinguish the Engine, Turbo, Clutch, Gearbox, Environment, it makes a huge difference on the eRally experience Better Co-Driver calls - Much more perceptive than WRC 8 Better Graphics (IMO) - Lightning is a very important part of it Stages are 1:1 from the old ones. More Realistic Handling (despite tarmac) - You can actually make Scandinavian Flicks/Pendulum Turns, it's unforgiving but with practice you can have a great feeling More Cars - A lot more Classic Cars - A big plus Rallycross - It gives you a great joy to compete online Conclusions: Both games have great physics, but I feel that Dirt 2.0 is doing it better, in WRC 8 sometimes the car car sky rocket just by hitting a small rock, it have the same problem of Dirt, which was "fixed" on Dirt 2.0, also on WRC 8 sometimes the car just loses control without a reason to do it so. The driving styles are different... WRC 8 feels more stick to the ground, the grip feels higher, so the car does not slide so often. On Dirt 2.0 you can actually make beautiful turns and drifts, and feel that you are in control of them (when you have silks for that) The downside of Dirt 2.0 is tarmac, it feels like gravel but with higher grip. So... If you want to use a controller (WRC 8 is better adjusted to the gamepad), or if you are new to rally games, just go with WRC 8, it's an overall better experience than Dirt 2.0. If you have a wheel and want to compete against other players or if you a demand a better driving simulation experience, go with Dirt 2.0.
@@ATribeCalledCars Something is wrong then , because I have most of the racing games , and only Horizon 4 and Dirt Rally 2.0 look so amazing , way better graphics than Drive Club, GT sport, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Project Cars 2. I use Alienware aw3418DW 3440x1440 resolution Ultra settings Blur - off and it Looks Photorealistic … So I guess Console versions must be Cut down so they can get 60 FPS . For Example on RTX 2080 I get Ultra settings, 70-120 FPS everything max out , with taa and mssa also maxed out. If I had the opportunity to show you Screenshots you would understand how beautiful it looks, Not even close to what I am seeing in this video.
I enjoy WRC8 more , rallycross in DR2.0 is amazing though . If you are a rally fan you should have both games . That being said if Kyloton provides the same amount of classic cars as DR2.0 then I really don’t know how they are gonna compete .
Probably with their physics, the physics in DR2.0 is just infinitely better than those in WRC8. This is why pretty much all rally drivers prefer DR2.0 over WRC8.
What I like about Dirt 2 and what imo makes it so much more superior to wrc 8 in terms of graphics especially when looking at all this gameplay footage - is the incredible lighting that they put in the game. It makes it that much more realistic and when looking at wrc 8 it feels really outdated. It's really cool how they managed to not resort to raytracing and the associated caveats for this kind of lighting to work.
Cheers for watching! I definitely prefer it, even with a steering wheel. But I can see why the extra difficulty of DiRT Rally 2.0 is appealing for some.
I pretty much agree with you on everything. I have tried both (PC + FFB wheel) and I have ended playing WRC8 all the time. I have found my magic formula which is Dirt Rally (1) for the sake of Rallycross and WRC8.
smaller company, less resources than the devs at codemasters. making new cars takes a ton of time and effort, and they have to put out a new game almost every year. CM takes 2 years per dirt game.
I think Dirt Rally 2.0 by a mile. WRC 8 is hard on the eyes, the handling is pants and that virtual management- weather and stuff reminds me of some dumb game like The Sims. I’m the driver not the manager, I want a manager to sort out the weather, engineers to fix my car, I can’t be bothered with all that filling. Dirt Rally 2.0 you get in your car and you’re off 😭
For anyone who has an issue with the ffb/steering angle in WRC I have a suggestion: the visible wheel in cockpit view doesn't correspond to our own wheels rotation limits and for me it was impossible to get the relationship between car behaviour and ffb right but it became clear that the cars actually have a fixed degree of rotation of even less than 180° (and WRC 9 cockpit previews show that it will be the same...) probably as a gamepad compromise and hence why it works so well with one. So having spent many hours using the default 540° and adjusting everything else, I realised if you just set it to the minimum of 180° in game the ffb then makes much, much better sense and in my opinion is actually one of the very best in sim racing. Now you can actually throw out the rear and generally feel in control, at last ! As with car swapping in real life it just takes time to get used to but its worth it and in fact looking at WRC footage online it actually seems that the settings are more or less correct, the developers have just cut off the extra 180° or so that drivers do use but very rarely, with these settings my movements seem to match the professionals 90% of the time. So with my T300 I use: Sensitivity: 0 - 1 (to preference, affects both responsiveness and ffb) Deadzone: 0 Saturation: 75 - 100 (to preference, affects both responsiveness and ffb) Rescale: Off Invert: Off Max Wheel Angle: 180 All ffb settings at default (another indication that 180° is the actual default). Enjoy !
@@ATribeCalledCars Ben hey, just realised you did another video specifically about wheel settings, my bad, but the good news is I think I've now got to the bottom of this issue... I know from experience with Assetto Corsa that one of the many things that surprisingly affects force feedback (FFB) and handling in a sim is the field of view (FOV), so if in WRC8 you use the bonnet cam for the best visuals and sense of speed and just change the camera FOV to the min (-20), then the default steering angle of 540°, steering sensitivity at 0, saturation at 100 and ffb settings seem spot on, at bloody last ! Its a game changer, just try switching between default FOV and -20 with the same settings elsewhere and the difference it makes is night and day. A bizarre discovery, but problem solved ;) Now I'm a happy man... Great channel btw, I'm rooting for its growing success :)
I will pay again if WRC8 implement VR to this sim. It's excellent sim everytime I play my mouth gets dry my heart rate goes up. I wish they bring Subaru and Evo to this sim as a DLC i will be happy to pay for this. I played Dirt 2.0 every day but since WRC8 came out now only once maybe twice.
I have both for the Xbox 1 and it’s WRC8 all the way! Dirt 2.0 is a game that I’m finding I get enjoyment if I have 10 minutes or 15 minutes to play a level. Because it’s a game. WRC 8 is a game that you have to sit down you definitely have to play with a steering wheel to get the full affect because it’s very hard to control the car specially a WRC car in some of those roads with a controller. The only thing about WRC8 that I do not like are the water puddles in the road. When you’re at full speed and you hit the water puddles it will throw you into the next town and I hate that. Because that’s not real.
A lot of this video was spent talking about how Dirt Rally 2.0 is overall harder than WRC8 (at least, with a controller). How you can brake later in WRC, how you're punished more in Dirt. But, honestly, I feel the exact opposite. I've played a bunch of both WRC8 and Dirt Rally 2.0 with a controller, and honestly? I prefer Dirt Rally 2.0 simply because it's EASIER. I feel like I have more control over my car, where as in WRC8, I'd constantly be worrying about sliding and spinning. I feel like I can take turns quicker in Dirt, where as those same turns in WRC8, I'd be slowing down a lot more. Add on to that the fact that a lot of the tracks in WRC8 have thinner sections that Dirt Rally 2.0 doesn't have, and it just makes WRC8 much harder for me. I can still play it, don't get me wrong. But I have a much more enjoyable experience playing Dirt over WRC simple because I can chill out a bit more. It's less stressful because I feel like I actually have control. WRC8 also has a lot more bumps it feels like. Like, your car has a habit of bouncing around and sliding on it's own sometimes, due to bumps in the road and stuff. Especially on those wet patches during the rain. Something that isn't as much of an issue in Dirt. Now, a lot of that could be argued that it makes WRC8 the better game. And that may be true. More realistic and dangerous tracks, more realistic surfaces, looser feeling vehicles, plus obviously WRC8 has the better career mode. But I just have more fun on Dirt.
That's interesting, perhaps Dirt 2.0 has been updated a lot since or it's simply personal preference. I know a lot of people prefer the game. It's a valid point that all the little bumps can make it harder to maintain a line in WRC, but my brain processes that as more realistic and therefore more intuitively. Strange maybe lol. I think the main thing is that we are very lucky to have at least two awesome rally games (WRC 9 review on the channel and WRC 10 video going live in early June). I will try to get my hands on all future Dirt games, too.
WRC's big issue is there's no cars/Tracks Weather based Online Leaderboard as DIRT RALLY 2.0 in short if you love R2 or classic cars on WRC8 want to compete people on online? simply you cant leaderboards is combined so you have to compete with 180hp r2 cars to 380hp 4wd wrc1 machine which is stupid. and there's no weather based leaderboard either
Monster high end PC here... dirt rally 2.0 wins hands down on graphics on my setup. Imo both games are great in each their own department... wrc have cool maps and do asphalt really well. Dirt 2.0 has sound, graphics and muddy/dirt going for it... both are good imo DIRT 2.0 is expensive though with all the extra stuff but imo worth the money
What exactly is the career for WRC8, and 9 if you have it, like? What are the options and events? How are things done? I have been playing Dirt Rally 2.0. Love the gameplay. The hard and realistic driving. The rallies. The cars. The co-driver. But for every car you ever buy in the career and wanna take for a good ol spin and have fun, you have to play 6 straight rallies with them, and it gets longer and longer. First was 4 stages each, then 6, 8, 10, and so on. Doesn't even give us a set of championships to pick based on length. This is fucked up. And it seems the community has not lambasted this hard. Takes me an hour or more to complete one 8 stage rally. Imagine if in a shooter multiplayer game, there are preset classes or characters with unique abilities, and to play as one you had to complete every mode on every map with it consecutively. So the game is not something you can just play, wreck, have fun, switch and try different strategies but something, which I don't don't know how to describe.
It's a daily choice between resting, historic challenges, rally stages and more. So you can pick and choose mostly what you do. WRC 8/9 are better in the career area, I'd say.
I recognize that it can cost more, but almost every game can play better on a PC. You still have all the options of using a controller or wheel and pedals. You have unlimited frame rates and no stutters plus the option of more graphic and performance adjustments as long as you have the computing horsepower, and if you don't now you can always upgrade later.
Decent review mate -- can't say I have all the same issues on some of the points regarding Dirt Rally 2.0 as I find it more or less designed to be not an easy game to pick up and play, but accurate nonetheless. I haven't played WRC Rally yet but it looks great. I also reckon I'm more lenient on the visuals-- Dirt is a gorgeous game for my standards, though i have a PS4 and thus don't have access to Forza.
It's definitely a game you have to put effort into and there are pros and cons! I've revisited it a lot recently with the McRae pack and I'm still getting annoyed but it can also be highly rewarding. Definitely check WRC 8, it's good (and potentially on sale right now). Yeah, Forza on console kind of ruins other console racing games, it's particularly impressive!
For me definitely WRC 8, the physics are the greatest one ever released on a Rally Game comes out on pc, and I tryed every one in the last 20 years! Go with the Yaris WRC on Fafe, what a great experience, better go on Fafe reverse, go to the limit, enjoy the best physics ever, and thrill pure... Have on this stage actually the 11. place on leaderboard, but that’s not so important, but the feeling when you have the totally flow on this stage with the Yaris is unbelievable, never have so much fun with a pc game, thanks for your vid and really great thanks for this unbelievable great great Rally sim!!!! And it feels realistic the feel of the speed is sooo kicking, it’s a so hard challenge to stay on the bumpy road, so much work on the pedals and the wheel, couldn’t be more impressive!!!!!!
I'll probably do a video on the steering wheel side of WRC 8 at some point, I'm definitely enjoying this game more and maybe people would benefit from the setup advice.
Good clear review man. Convinced me to go WRC 8. Loved the old evolution studios games on PS2 and this game seems to be in the spirit. Stages look so much more atmospheric, too.
I disagree with what you said about sounds and graphics. I think the sound in dr2 sounds more detailed and full compared to wrc 8. And from what I've seen on youtube (I've only actually played dit rally 2) the graphics look more realistic and less cartoon-ish in dr2 in my opinion. I do however agree that the spectators in dr2 are an atrocity.
Detailed and full perhaps, but I seem to remember it being less accurate. The graphics thing I can understand, definitely subjective! Thanks for watching.
Sorry dude but in terms of graphics you are just simply wrong. DR2 is definetely waaaaay more stylised, colours are less life-like than WRC8 and everything has this soft look. WRC8 might be technically less graphic-intensive but it's a lot more accurate.
Thank you, I thought I was going crazy that I couldn't drive in Dirt 2.0 with a controller, holy shit I never spun out, flipped, bumped/jumped and got absolutely demolished like this in any rally game before. Did they totally mess up the controller support because it do feel very weird and overly sensitive maybe? I mean I tried some smaller goofy cars and they are worse of course but still, the mini cooper I tried on the first stage where it start with a bridge and it took me like 5 tries just to get past that bridge and then I crashed in the next corner anyway, insane slippery cars that spend more time in the air than on the ground. I've ended up in that ditch like 20 times now and that have made me not play the game so much, I do love the insane feel of it thought but I need to figure this out because it is unplayable right now and I have an urge to play definitely. It feels like you say a bit random like, "will I fly off the track now for no reason, do I dare touch the handbrake and can I gas now without eating 6 trees?", it's like a coinflip and I really try to figure out how to drive with controller but every move I do end up like a Bond movie with these trapdoors by the Villain, Goodbye Mr.Bond! *Swoooooosh AAAAAAAHHH*
@@positivelycurvedpikachu Yes, changed to 100 and felt a huge difference, I could actually rescue the cars in turns now. Later lowered it to 85 to not have it too twitchy when driving fast. Still playing around with the other settings. Thank you for the response.
I've not used it specifically but the TS-XW is great and there aren't many Thrustmaster wheels available so can't imagine the developer missed out on one. But to be sure, I'd check some forum posts :)
WRC looks entirely on a different level than DR2. These fanboys of DR are so blinded by their little cult. WRC 8 looks unmatched in heavy rain/ storm conditions while DR looks like indie second rate workaround. The world of WRC is much more alive specially with the trees swinging like crazy, a cool drone running around etc. The water splashes are so overwhelming in WRC compared to DR. Now DR has better handling, impactful jumps and much better damage models. That’s it.

I'm loving DR2.0 but I'd love to try WRC8 too. From what I've seen it isn't _quite_ as GPU hungry as the Codies title. It's just the fact it isn't on Steam that I'm not playing it right now!
Heya m8! Have u tried messing around with suspension settings? I had heard great things about WRC 8 before I first went in with my g29 chose Finland and was like what the hell as well? I thought maybe its the FFB.. messed around soo long with that but to no avail because when the car slid even a bit there was no catching it... then I finally decide to check the car setup. For some reason it defaulted to pretty much softest settings there were and after messing with the suspension got the car feeling pretty much as i wanted it to be. (even when using the simple mode slider it felt better already).
I have both games on ps4 pro, and dirt 2.0 is sooo much better with fluidity and smooth graphics (60fps) vs wrc8 and 30fps, for me it is crucial difference ...
I thought the same but was determined to make it work as the content is too good to miss. It turns out framerate is only an issue if you are too close to a large screen in relation to its resolution ! PAL/NTSC at 25/30 fps has given us fast paced action movies for decades and no-one complained because our screens were so much smaller. Over the years screen size has increased two or three times faster than resolution has increased so if you're on PS4 and want a sim setup with a 1080p large screen just a metre away you're going to suffer but if you use THX guidelines for HD viewing distance (try this link - myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancemetric.html or search for "Homestead viewing distance calculator") the game runs great even at 30 fps, trust me ;)
Good review, only thing i felt was left unnoted is pacenotes.. In DR2 i feel the pacenotes are quite lacking. They do not describe the road accurately enough or sometimes even misleads. How are the pacenotes in WRC8?
@@ATribeCalledCars the only problem with wrc 8 co-driver is the fact that he makes call too late too many times..i hate getting penalized because i couldn't react to a sharp turn in time
Great review, lots of good points, tho i just play both:) ive been with the Dirt series Colin McRae Rally 3 so i might be biased, but i prefer DR2.0 a bit more. Its just more satisfying
The FFB is at the Stock ok, but when you have a long work to optimize after you in the unbelievable great menu for that you could get one of the best ffb I ever have on a sim...
If you want simulation better to go with WRC 8. Stages are amazing. If you are searching for realistic game but not that hardcore Dirt Rally better than enough. ( pc gamer, logitech g29 )
I bought a bunch of rally games in the Steam sale WRC 8, WRC 10 and Dirt Rally 2.0. WRC 8 is a good game but WRC 10 I find takes the edge in handling. Not played Dirt Rally 2.0 as of yet.
I'm a PS4-Pro player who only drives racing games. I still use a gamepad as I don't have the space for a wheel and pedal setup at the moment. I own Dirt4 (which I only enjoy playing for the rallycross) as well as Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2.0. (for proper stage rallying). However I rarely play them as they are pretty hard work on the pad. Would anyone say that this is worth buying for a more fun and forgiving experience using a gamepad? I don't want to buy a forth rally game if I'll still struggle to get into it! Am I better off just sticking with what I've got and investing more time in them? WRC8 does look like a good game with great stages. But it's the handling (with a gamepad) I'm most concerned with. If this will give me more enjoyment then I don't mind spending the money. Any advice will be appreciated. :-).
Rally cars are pretty heavy dude so it's normal what you thought these cars will handle the same as F1 cars lol? Plus you can't even compare the cars since WRC 8 has much more modern cars
I have both and both are awesome. Wrc8 is a big improvement on wrc7. Dirt2 is actually similar to dirt or dirt 4 so not changed much. On xb1x. I believe dirt2 has the graphics and sound edge as some sounds on wrc8 are annoying. But FairPlay to wrc. I hated wrc7 but love wrc8. I really love both games and there is little to chose. But dirt rally 2.0 just edges.
I’ve watched 2 comparison videos and both we’re biased towards one. I personally want Dirt Rally 2.0 because I don’t care about the career and THE CAR SOUNDS IN WRC 8 ARE CRAP!!! I simply can’t see how you think they are acceptable!!!
Actually they're generally more realistic in WRC 8 so that's more a problem with the real cars than the game. The co-driver isn't perfect, no, but the DiRT Rally 2.0 one isn't my favourite. As for bias, I gave both a lot of time and have no affiliation with either. I got both games free and before release. I just preferred WRC 8 as it's much more enjoyable.
I have WRC 7 and prefer the audio and handling/physics in WRC compared to the Dirt series. I also feel Dirt is a more slightly (dare I say it) arcadey type driving experience.. like you said it feels a bit floaty or weird feedback.. If WRC 8 had VR I'd buy it but it doesn't so I think I'll just stick with WRC 7 just now.
Both are taken from the Xbox One using the same capture card, bruv. And definitely not sponsored, I review cars and for games for a living. Always happy to speak my mind, even if it means I upset people.
WRC8, 60hz, awfull, dead, long life to the KING DR2.0, with gsync support....if you can accept 60hz, it's long time 60hz is for me like 30fps, I play at 120fps min...60 hz is a NO WAY
It is sad to compare the game on XBOX - DR2 has so much more to offer if you are rally enthusiast. Triple screen support, VR support (if you did not try, you should - it changes DR2 totally) , REAL stages, great variety of cars (with real sounds), I should not even mention about physics ....... and content. For me WRC 8 has only one advantage (or disadvantage) - official WRC license - car nowadays are so similar - they all drive and sounds the same... - I prefer to drive older WRC and B Group - they are more challenging. And for the last - you think that tarmac grip is an issue - try to drive Monte Carlo Rally and show me another game which simulates EVERY ice and snow on the tarmac - this is the only game which has this system implemented (even RBR does not have it). In other words - I totally disagree in my opinion DR 2.0 is much better than WRC 8.
A PC ultra graphics comparison would've been cool too, maybe one day. It's true that all racing games have their flaws, you really see it when you review cars as part of your job, but DiRT Rally 2.0 really felt particularly bad at tarmac when I made this video. Felt like lazy programming. We all have our preferences, I genuinely enjoyed WRC8 more but perhaps with various updates things are closer now!
I honestly feel like u dont have so much games experience, you are probably a good driver at these but it seems like u dont really know what you are talking about and u more likely say ur opinion right here but the fact is that u talk about everything that you say like it is 100% true, like thats exactly what it is happening... bro lol
I mean I've done game journalism, played thousands of games and analysed a lot of points so not sure what else I'm supposed to do beyond that. I speak as if things are true because you only write or say what you believe. Strange comment.
No worries, just enjoy the fact we have a choice in decent rally games. WRC 9 has been fun, hopefully Dirt 5 and Dirt 3.0 (whenever that is) keep raising the bar.
A message from the Minister of Sport to the enthusiasts of simple WRC8 games or what to call a freak of human nature. If for you WRC8 is a simulator, then for a construction worker, operating a wheelbarrow is an F1 simulator, and for a pensioner in Walmart, driving a cart around the dog crunch department is a real Dakar rally. WRC8 goes ahead but also fucked up a lot of things along the way trying to overtake the Dirt and RBR series. Dirt Rally is not the best simulator, but it reflects the most similar reality as it is watched live or on TV and this is the truth. WRC8 despite the license, there is really nothing ... for me, the rally enthusiast is simply a total error of the FIA WRC which they entrusted the advertising of this sport to such fucked up hands of Kyloton. But this is the trend at FIA WRC to make simple games and pretend that it's the best wheelbarrow simulator on the construction site of all time with the voice of the pilot after anal cleansing measures. Kyloton should start creating board games for patients in psychiatric hospitals with the intention of committing suicide so that they would have good effectiveness then ... Finally. If WRC wants to appear seriously in games, they should think about whether to go to construction and Walmart and ask how to make good games and who to entrust it to. Apparently in version 20 in X years they are to introduce Pacman to a rally that will devour rally cars as they fall off the route, and the effects of suspension transplant from electric scooters for postmen. The pilot's sound will be from Alexa who will notify the player who fucked up another $ 50 ... And she will tell you on the basis of Wikipedia what tree we pass and why this pixel or shadow has been fucked up again. On the subject of car physics, they are supposed to call specialists from the vacuum in the anus of the koala bear, which after eating a bucket of eucalyptus creates a hydrogen bomb as well as additional vibrations and vibrations of the anus with gas pressure ... And on this basis the accelerated phenomenon of the quantum koala bear. Graphs of tire viscosity law of aerodynamic speed gravity will be created, and so on, until an ideal big bang of the exploding anus in real physics gases for future WRC editions is created.
And to the the sounds, DR is impressive, especially onboard, like the great sound, but it isn’t realistic, WRC onboard Sound on the original WRC cars are on the point, Realy perfect!!! Go to YTand listen onboard to the real WRC cars, you will see WRC 8 sounds soooo much more realistic!!
The standard Xbox One isn't the best, admittedly. I'll be filming a lot of my videos at 4K resolution soon, I have an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080Ti so should be okay ;)
I have both games for PS4 standard and a Logitec G29 Wheel.
In summary the differences are:
WRC8:
Carrier Mode - Dirt 2.0 don't have a chance on this
Official Cars - For the purists, it is a must
Better Stage Design - The stages are not 1:1 from the real ones, but they are much more emersive
More Stages than Dirt 2.0 - A lot more, and official
Better Tarmac driving - It feels right

Slightly Better Car Adjustments - You can change almost everything

Rain Impacts a lot - Better driving experience on rain than Dirt 2.0, is feels more realistic overall
Dirt 2.0:
Better Sound - You can distinguish the Engine, Turbo, Clutch, Gearbox, Environment, it makes a huge difference on the eRally experience
Better Co-Driver calls - Much more perceptive than WRC 8
Better Graphics (IMO) - Lightning is a very important part of it
Stages are 1:1 from the old ones.
More Realistic Handling (despite tarmac) - You can actually make Scandinavian Flicks/Pendulum Turns, it's unforgiving but with practice you can have a great feeling
More Cars - A lot more
Classic Cars - A big plus
Rallycross - It gives you a great joy to compete online
Conclusions:
Both games have great physics, but I feel that Dirt 2.0 is doing it better, in WRC 8 sometimes the car car sky rocket just by hitting a small rock, it have the same problem of Dirt, which was "fixed" on Dirt 2.0, also on WRC 8 sometimes the car just loses control without a reason to do it so.
The driving styles are different...
WRC 8 feels more stick to the ground, the grip feels higher, so the car does not slide so often.
On Dirt 2.0 you can actually make beautiful turns and drifts, and feel that you are in control of them (when you have silks for that)
The downside of Dirt 2.0 is tarmac, it feels like gravel but with higher grip.
Hernâni Alves thanks i need this pure and clear i know now everything
Completely agree with you, Sir!
Hernâni Alves thank you
WRC 8 also has split screen, which is very important to me
Yeah this is pretty much how i feel about both games..this is spot on!!
The career mode in WRC 8 os superior in almost every way minus a few flaws

Probably with their physics, the physics in DR2.0 is just infinitely better than those in WRC8. This is why pretty much all rally drivers prefer DR2.0 over WRC8.
What I like about Dirt 2 and what imo makes it so much more superior to wrc 8 in terms of graphics especially when looking at all this gameplay footage - is the incredible lighting that they put in the game. It makes it that much more realistic and when looking at wrc 8 it feels really outdated. It's really cool how they managed to not resort to raytracing and the associated caveats for this kind of lighting to work.
Very true, the lighting stuff is good.
The lighting is very cool and beautiful, but sometimes I feel that it is over-the-top and a bit unrealistic.

Really good review man! I’ve got both games but in my oppinion WRC 8 is better
Don't know why so few older cars are included in WRC8. Everyone loves driving the classics!
Licensing or something boring probably, it's a shame. As you say they're great to drive.
smaller company, less resources than the devs at codemasters. making new cars takes a ton of time and effort, and they have to put out a new game almost every year. CM takes 2 years per dirt game.
The fact new WRC cars in WRC 8 are still really fast and fun
I think Dirt Rally 2.0 by a mile. WRC 8 is hard on the eyes, the handling is pants and that virtual management- weather and stuff reminds me of some dumb game like The Sims. I’m the driver not the manager, I want a manager to sort out the weather, engineers to fix my car, I can’t be bothered with all that filling. Dirt Rally 2.0 you get in your car and you’re off 😭
Valid points! I quite like the management side of things but it's definitely not for everyone. At least we have the option.
A Tribe Called Cars thanks, I’m going to have another go with WRC 8 you’re making me inspired to try again.
So with my T300 I use:
Sensitivity: 0 - 1 (to preference, affects both responsiveness and ffb)
Deadzone: 0
Saturation: 75 - 100 (to preference, affects both responsiveness and ffb)
Rescale: Off
Invert: Off
Max Wheel Angle: 180
All ffb settings at default (another indication that 180° is the actual default).
Enjoy !
Interesting, I've not tried 180 but I find 540 is intuitive (but tiring on the really long circuits in this current heatwave). I use the TS-XW though.
I have both and in my opinion dirt just feels better
I will pay again if WRC8 implement VR to this sim.
It's excellent sim everytime I play my mouth gets dry my heart rate goes up.
I wish they bring Subaru and Evo to this sim as a DLC i will be happy to pay for this.
I played Dirt 2.0 every day but since WRC8 came out now only once maybe twice.
The WRC 9 trailers are starting to appear as that's out in September, hope that comes with VR but we'll see.
Richard Burns Rally!!!
Classic.
I have both and play with a steering wheel and i have to pick WRC 8
Yes! The puddles (particularly on the Wales stages) can really ruin your day.
Oh my fuck i despise the puddles!!!
Wrc 8, has improved a lot. BUT Dirt, definetly still has the edge :)
Are we looking at the same games? Dirt rally 2 is so far ahead of wrc8 graphics wise it's not even fair, wrc8 looks like a ps3 game
Not on Xbox, in my opinion. Although there are some things Dirt does well.
you on crack !?
Look PS2 graphics
You are spot on. Iam so happy to have the next proper rally game. Wrc 8 is such a gem. Dirt rally 2 is getting bored by now on my pc
WRC's big issue is there's no cars/Tracks Weather based Online Leaderboard as DIRT RALLY 2.0
in short if you love R2 or classic cars on WRC8 want to compete people on online? simply you cant leaderboards is combined so you have to compete with 180hp r2 cars to 380hp 4wd wrc1 machine which is stupid.
and there's no weather based leaderboard either
Good point, there are a few racing games where they group stuff together and it ruins the competition element.
It reminds me of RalliSport Challenge on the original Xbox, what a game that was!
@@ATribeCalledCars holy what a throwback
Really awesome comparison! I love both, but in my opinion, I go with DiRT Rally 2.0 because it has more cars!
Thanks! It's just annoying you have to pay for so much extra in DiRT Rally 2.0.
*Swoooooosh AAAAAAAHHH*
try to configure your controller.
the default steering sensibility is far too low.
there are plenty good videos with good settings. it is key.
@@positivelycurvedpikachu Yes, changed to 100 and felt a huge difference, I could actually rescue the cars in turns now. Later lowered it to 85 to not have it too twitchy when driving fast. Still playing around with the other settings.
Thank you for the response.
Does Thrustmaster TMX Pro driving wheel work well for WRC 8?
I've not used it specifically but the TS-XW is great and there aren't many Thrustmaster wheels available so can't imagine the developer missed out on one. But to be sure, I'd check some forum posts :)
No don’t get wrc with the thrust master get dirt rally 2.0 ffb is great
Now if your co driver got out of the car and beat it with a stick when you broke down that would make WRC 8 perfect.
Realism to the max!
Actually let's go the whole hog. I want Basil Fawlty doing the stage calls.
How about every time you start driving dangerously he says "Samir you will break the car!"
Totally disagree dirt looks way too real than wrc8 and wrc8 veey hard to control
The voice seems to divide opinion and they aren't always the easiest to follow. But generally I think I prefer them in WRC 8 although not by much!
Really good in depth comparison! Question: is there fov options in the CONSOLE version of wrc8?
Thanks! There are FOV options for all camera views in the Xbox version, just been messing about with them.
@@ATribeCalledCars cheers. Dirt rally 2.0 on the console does not have this, which is a real shame. Glad this game has it.
Man your wheel base/wheel jumps around on the rig mounting. You got to stiffen it up.
It's annoying aye, I will probably reduce the steering wheel strength until I can find a solution.
I have both and I mean wrc 8 feels more fun, dirt 2.0 feels like you're driving a brick on wheels
Agreed, DiRT 2.0 has its feel but it's not natural enough for me. WRC 9 is even better.
Rally cars are pretty heavy dude so it's normal what you thought these cars will handle the same as F1 cars lol?
Plus you can't even compare the cars since WRC 8 has much more modern cars
@@legm5298 Watching onboard footage of rally cars, WRC 9 looks more realistic. They're not F1 cars but they can really shift.
@@ATribeCalledCars Yeah but most cars in DR2.0 are old cars
I have both and both are awesome. Wrc8 is a big improvement on wrc7.
Dirt2 is actually similar to dirt or dirt 4 so not changed much.
On xb1x. I believe dirt2 has the graphics and sound edge as some sounds on wrc8 are annoying.
But FairPlay to wrc. I hated wrc7 but love wrc8.
I really love both games and there is little to chose. But dirt rally 2.0 just edges.
It's nice we have a decent selection, WRC 9 next ;)
I’ve watched 2 comparison videos and both we’re biased towards one. I personally want Dirt Rally 2.0 because I don’t care about the career and THE CAR SOUNDS IN WRC 8 ARE CRAP!!! I simply can’t see how you think they are acceptable!!!
I forgot to mention, the co-driver on WRC8 is some kind of robot. Again, absolutely crap!!
I just preferred WRC 8 as it's much more enjoyable.
you say car sounds in WRC 8 are crap !!.. oh dear...lol
Ok, must have to say I play on PC with ffb wheel, don’t know how it feels on console or/and with pad...
In Dirt cars felt more grounded in wrc they float
I have WRC 7 and prefer the audio and handling/physics in WRC compared to the Dirt series. I also feel Dirt is a more slightly (dare I say it) arcadey type driving experience.. like you said it feels a bit floaty or weird feedback.. If WRC 8 had VR I'd buy it but it doesn't so I think I'll just stick with WRC 7 just now.
VR in WRC 8 would be great, I'd like to get more familiar with it and I also play No Man's Sky, which has decent VR support.
Thank you
this looks like a sponsored video even the dirt rally 2 parts you edited on are 320p ... wut bruv
Both are taken from the Xbox One using the same capture card, bruv. And definitely not sponsored, I review cars and for games for a living. Always happy to speak my mind, even if it means I upset people.
WRC8, 60hz, awfull, dead, long life to the KING DR2.0, with gsync support....if you can accept 60hz, it's long time 60hz is for me like 30fps, I play at 120fps min...60 hz is a NO WAY
I think if you're really serious about racing games and lap times, faster frame rates make sense.
60 is plenty for racing tbh. Now 30 on the other hand, absolutely not.
@@XCougar85X when you use 144hz, 60 is like 30, outdated
Im having a great time at 30 fps.

That's what my first girlfriend said to me.
Very good and objective review.
I say both!! They are amazing games!
Amen!
Great comparison.
Buy wrc8 and tt isle of man 2 :))
I have both, I'm a big fan of bike racing.
I yesterday bought dirt rally 2.0 and now wrc 8 is free with xbox gold 🙃
Good shout, both games are great. WRC 8 free is essential!
Strange comment.
you are right, this is just a mean comment i shouldn't have left
i just, i kinda got tired of people defending this game
@@ATribeCalledCars for the price that it has it feels cheap, really cheap
No worries, just enjoy the fact we have a choice in decent rally games. WRC 9 has been fun, hopefully Dirt 5 and Dirt 3.0 (whenever that is) keep raising the bar.
Wrc 8 Best rally gane
I'm now looking forward to WRC9.
Can't like the graphics on WRC 8. Looks like Fortnite
If the developer sees this they'll be in tears!
Sorry i dont speak Bayeux
Fuckin awesome comment! I'm extremely worried that I understand it though :/
Bad choice...
