- Quick look at AN/PRC-77 tactical VHF manpack radio.
This is upgraded version, used by German army to operate in "modern" 25kHz channel spacing (in original it have 50kHz spacing - that modification double possible channels combination and allow operation with other NATO radios like British VHF Clansman series that You can also see on my videos).
I carried an AN/PRC-77 in Vietnam in 1968 While serving in a Recon platoon in the Fourth Infantry division, These days I use one on the six meter ham band with some locals as WD9HOT
Pretty mint condition. I was a Radio Operator in the Canadian Armed Forces and Carried an AN/PRC-77 as a Paratrooper. The power connector is use when mounted on an am-2060 power amplifier for vehicle use.
These AN/PRC-77 devices were manufactured by TELEMIT Munich and were not used by the German Armed Forces but by the Austrian Armed Forces = BH 23.
The Bundeswehr never had PRC-77s in use.

My father carried the PRC77 in Vietnam.
That man had balls made of pure Tungston. He had a 5 second life expectancy. Can we have an applause for this man's father?

It was made in Germany and approved by the Bundeswehr, which is why this label is on the front panel. I worked in this company for 22 years as a testfield engineer and we produced thousands of this radio.
its just 5W FM. it is similar to a cheap UV-5R walkie talkie that is worth 20$. the only good thing about this is that it is rugged, and work at a lower frequency (30-50mhz) instead of 144-440mhz.
i wish somebody made rugged military style radio like this for emergency at a normal price.
You can't compare military quality to any civilian device also there is collectible aspect since it's iconic radio used at Vietnam war (prc77 in general not that unit). There is chines SDR packed in military style enclosure - but I would say - still not normal price for cheap SDR in fancy enclosure. Here is model: TBR-119 You can check it out.

Where can you find a good Prick-77? Rare on eBay now, mostly just non working static display ones on there now. Getting hard to find.
I got mine off ebay.de but back then it was easy to find working one + accessories.

Yes you can! It will talk to any ham radio that overlap it's frequency.

Just wanted to write the same. But from the outside both speak German and drink beer from large „Masskrügen“ and wear Lederhosen. So it is okay.
Does PRC-77 has roger beep tone?
No - it does not have that feature. There is external attachment for signaling 1600Hz tone but it's being operated manually.

Sure, You set same frequency and they can talk to each other. Good chose for emergency in fields, wood, rural area but inside city I would go for modern digital radio VHF or UHF. From my observation inside city there is lot of local interference and better range in that conditions have DMR radio.
