Excursions are big strong trucks and great for big families and pets to use for just about anything. They can be used to haul well over 10,000 lbs. and I personally like the 7.3 or 6.8 engines, enough power to get the job done and reliable. 3/4 and 1 ton Suburbans compare, but I'm experienced with working on Fords and the 99-04 Super Duty platform is what I am loyal to. As a conscience environmentalist, owning one of these seems conflicting, but it's utilitarian uses outweigh the 12 mpg , and also being safe in 8000 lbs + if the family and I were to get into an accident with another vehicle. 4 people, 4 dogs, camper, canoe, etc...you name it the Excursion can do it.

I had an excursion, i sold it 8 months ago. and to tell youu the truth i really miss it, and gas was never a problem. i put $50 dollars in every week, and drive to fort benning every day.
@2004SiennaAWD yeah me too. Not many people have a true need for a SUV this big. I've seen some Excursions towing trailers and stuff but most people don't need this lol
for everyone who doesnt know, overdrive is the highest gear in the transmission, and is used to maximize fuel economy by allowing the engine to turn at lower revolutions. If you have a 4speed transmission with O/D, O/D is the fourth and highest gear. In some cases, the highest gear in your transmission has a ratio of 1:1, which mean for every one turn of the engine you get one turn of the driveshaft, which is really high, compared to first gear, which is usually 2.45:1

I would like to see more on the tilt steering wheels less of the hazard light & parking brake only used in extreme emergency ok the hazard lights do add the make the video flashy. I like it when he tests the Horn tell how hard have to push to make work.
@WillTam08 the purpose of the v10 is to deliver close to diesel power without being a diesel, it's a diesel alternative for people who don't care for diesels.
My excursion got 12 MPG in the city and before I got rid of mine it cost me on average about 130 bucks to fill and that's without insane gas prices now!
@P2nkzSB overdrive works kinda like having an extra gear/speed. when the transmission shifts into overdrive it is to keep the RPM's down while crusing thus improving the gas mileage
And I quote John Bunnell, "People think that getting behind the wheel of a large vehicle will protect them from getting killed or getting into a serious accident." I guess some motorists defied that logic
I get what your saying, and yes Ford learned its lesson. I guess with gas so cheap back then no one bothered with improving the fuel economy. That certainly isn't true these days.

@gmancarini1 Surely this isn't the first time you've noticed that when a user first uploads videos they are of lower quality until RUclips has a chance to process them. Then they will be available in higher quality.
What do you expect from a truck that is 20 feet long, more than 6 and-a-half feet wide, and weighs over 3 tons, not to mention the size of the motor. They did a 7.3 as-well, but that got good mileage.
The airbag light being on is a little concerning, to anyone complaining about the size of the motor, it's not built for racing, its built more for taking abuse from hauling loads, and these motor's along with V8 Triton's have balls. A few years ago when I still used a company truck I drove a 1999 ford f-350 with a V8 triton and it put out a lot of power, we used it for jobs where you needed the power. It doesn't get driven now unless the other trucks are broke, uses to much gas.
The V10 isn't designed for high revving, high HP. It's a single overhead cam design to produce a large quantity of torque at low RPMs. Your 290HP is probably a dual overhead cam producing a higher quantity of HP at high RPMs, but lacks the amount of torque this engine produces. Why is it shocking that someone was going to make a comment like that, who looks at raw HP numbers and compare two things that are completely different?
I've seen many of these on the road (certainly not the limited), but those that i've seen have the powerstroke diesel. Are the diesels in those inclined to get better fuel economy than the V8/V10 units, and if so how much?
I'm not saying the V10 is impressive, but again this is why people should do their research before making a comment. The purpose of the engine was to produce peak torque a under 3k RPM. In the case of this V10, it's suppose to push out roughly 420 ft lbs of torque at around 3k RPM. It's not a race engine, and you can't compare it as such. It's an engine designed to accelerate a large heavy equipment which requires low end torque.
@strumem90 Yes I got it. I believe I did not express myself well in a way to make clear that I meant you would rarely find a 2001 Titanic V10 for sale for only USD 8,861 around here. Car prices in the USA are absolutely low, if compared to European similar ones.
