Both my wife and I were teachers for 45 years. Because of that, we have this little habit of trying to imagine what someone looked and acted like as a child. As we were watching your video, and you were wrinkling your eyebrows while apologizing for being grumpy in your lovely British accent, we both looked at each other and said, "I bet Katie was an ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE child 🥰." Thank you for being you and for bringing a little sunshine into our rainy lives (It's "chucking down" here in the USA too. 🌧️⛈️☔
I’d rather watch an honest video than someone who’s always “la la isn’t it all lovely”. With you we know we’re getting a genuine reaction the what you’re going through. And yeah, I get grumpy if I get caught in the rain too! But, Zoncolan…. Yay, smashed it! Well done ❤️
Hahah awww thanks so much Len. I can't not share the grumpy moments haha, but it's so much harder to pick up the camera when all you want to do it launch the bike off a mountain ha
Just as the sun shines the rain will come, the fact that your post does not look like an pimped Instagram or RUclips from an influencer makes watching your videos so much more interesting. From here in the Dales where it's mostly raining, all the very best, we look forward to watching your next adventure in the Dolomites.
The canned drink is not beer, but it's not everyones fav for sure :) It's made with a particularly bitter citrus fruit called "chinotto", which is also the name of the drink itself.
Girrrrrrl! You have the courage of a lion! You’ve done it! And to be celebrated by the views at the top. And it looks like you had the road to yourself (almost). So proud of you!
With the disclaimer that i also do not like riding in the rain, there is still some beauty to be found with the misty mountainsides, the way the clouds roll in and out of the valleys. What you're sharing here still brings a lot of joy to people, even if it's not the exact scenery that you planned to show, those mountains, that ride is very very impressive and gorgeous :)
That was awesome!!! Fabulous the way you got through the climbing. Oh man, it really rained hard. Wow!!! So magical... the views, the switchbacks and Pizza !!!! I can't think of you as grumpy. What an adventure. Thanks for taking us along. Love this... ❤
Amazing Katie what a challenge & you did it! What I love about your videos is they are about you, the route, the scenery & bits about the bike (not forgetting the beasties you encounter 😆). There's no 'my bike's better than yours' stuff. Thank you. Shame it was awfully wet, hopefully the last of the rain
I love these videos and I love your enthusiasm! Honestly, no need to apologise for being “grumpy” I don’t think you were at all. It’s totally normal to feel a bit down when you are in an amazingly beautiful place and rain sort of spoil it. Can’t wait for the next video!
You are such a TOUGH gal Katie! Glad you made it as this cross country riding is so mentally tough. To do it solo is an incredible feat. Love the videos, thanks for showing us Yanks all the beauty of Europe. 😊
Finally.. it was about time for you to come to Italy to ride and climb some serious of the most beautiful mountain sin the world 👍🏻😉 this is real bike climbing 💪🏻
Congratulations Katie, awesome! A lot harder than Sa Calobra where we met. I'd wear too much off my cleats walking for such hard sustained stretches that steep. Hat's off to you. Chino is like an odd cola, def not an orange drink.
No need to apologize for being a bit grumpy.... quite the opposite: some people would probably have given up filming the ride and making a video of it! So, a BIG THANK YOU for sharing this ride, the scenery, your feelings and everything else to do with riding in this incredible part of Italy. All the best and many more happy and safe rides!
Well done Katie .climb looked brutal, don't worry about grumpy Kate she'll be fine. Agree with you on riding in the rain after while it's not even type 2 fun.
I love this type of videos, thank you so much, Katie!!! Keep them coming! You are such an inspiration and motivation for me! 🥰Thanks to YOU, I tried the Climb Portal on Zwift for the first time! At 50% but still... I want to love climbing again! 🤩
Thank you!! Well when I saw it was so close to my route I knew I had to give it a go just to see how rough it was. Even if I had to walk it I wanted to know what it was like so glad I went. It’s a tough old climb but so glad I did it :)
@KatieKookaburra I like to hear that. I tell people to "..never give up on a challenge and to finish through.". I'm glad to see you conquered a challege many of us would have to walk up.
Incredible effort, Katie! Real shame about the weather and I know exactly what you mean by the lacklustre UK summer this year, but I reckon I’d rather still ride in the Rainy Dolomites than rainy Essex! 😂 You’re absolutely entitled to a moan though, especially in those conditions. Best of luck for the rest of the trip and chapeau so far. 🧢
I wonder if the animals in other countries still sound like here in America or is there an accent or something when they make noise or try communicating. That cow was very curious but so adorable. Love cows and animals. And I too love biking to my music. And I also hate riding in the rain but these are long jaunts your making and short ones for me around town and such. You are such a hero to me. Love seeing these videos and your travels and thanks for sharing with us. Current music preference is Boris Brejcha which is House on RUclips music but it has such good beats and great tempos so you should check him out Katie. Proud of your climbs and it's still pretty even with the rain. I hope one day you ride it in the sunshine and can see everything. I wish that for you love. Take care. Stay beautiful. Hugs from Tennessee in the U.S.
Many who follow it may seem that the bar manager is rude, but in Italy we have many rules to respect, one of these is that in places like bars, restaurants you can only eat food prepared by the manager. I'll give you an example, someone buys a pizza in a pizzeria, eats it on the tables of another bar, feels bad, the complaint of adulteration of the food is received by the one at the bar and the one at the pizzeria.😍
I hoped someone would explain the pizza thing! I have scrolled through many comments looking. Thank you. So, eat the pizza at the table outside where you bought it, or at home
Come on Katie, your are living in the UK, rain is a staple of living on your lovely island. 😉 As alredy commented under your previous video, we crossed the Alps mid of August and had literally no rain at all for seven days. However it had up to 37° Celsius, what isn't funny while cycling either.
Inspiring and informative. Thank you. I’m planning to ride through the Dolomites but coming from the flat lands of Australia, I’m a bit daunted by 20% for 20km. Our local Blue Mountains hardly reach 1100m altitude. What gearing do you use? Safe travels.
When you get to top of these climbs you are entitled to do a full gas volume Sound of Music yodle. Looking forward to your version. Maybe go back to Zoncolon😅
Never thought i would say this, but we are getting drier warmer summers in northern Norway. Does not compare with the majesty of the alps but the Norwegian coastline does have its own charm. For those who are interested, i would reccomend "Matthew Norway", especially his trips from Lofoten and further north.
Love your enthusiasm Katy. But I always see you on busy roads. I couldn’t be bothered. But if I was to start a cycling tour business. I’d advertise the smaller and absolutely dead roads in my area(near the Tourmalet in the Pyrenees) I keep away from the major Cols in summer, as they’re a circus and there’s far too much traffic. It’s much better in spring and autumn. Happy to show you around some lovely “secret/local” stuff if you ever visit again?
Super fun following along with your adventures. Wondering if you please, how do you edit your videos? Are you editing and posting while your are on your journey? Or do you wait till you get home?
I guess we are all going to have to get used to more cycling in the rain given that the weather is changing so dramatically now. But so pleased that you shared the type of waterproof and hoody you use as it was on my mind all of the way through the video. Did you actually eat the second pizza?

Gradually getting tired, hungry, wet and cold is always depressing. Wet shoes is the worst, stuff them with paper leave for an hour, change the paper it won’t make them totally dry but it will take the worst out😊😊
@@KatieKookaburra thank you, going to build a gravel bike and looking to buy some big climbing gears on it so was interested what you used. 46/30 sounds good 😊

You did something really hard and demanding, the pizza is fully deserved. Best wishes for tomorrow. Oh, "chinotto" 6:38 is sour orange, not beer.
Andy this is such a lovely and kind and supportive comment!! Thank you so much. Haha that pizza was devoured haha. The drink…. 🤮not so much. It’s awful isn’t it??!! 🤪🤪
The fact that you could even speak enough to get bleeped out on those long steep grades is very impressive.😅
