I LOVE that Cody is making mistakes and forgets things that Maria just told him. And "I didn't understand anything" part. Because... I'm NOT ALONE! Love the honesty of this video.
I've watched a number of videos on this channel. Cody is not the "sharpest tool in the shed.". In recent videos - years after this one - his Spanish is still awful.
Best Spanish learning video I have seen yet. Laughed my a$$ off but completely love the honesty and Cody's willingness to support the cause. Great work!!
Cody, you give me hope. I am enjoying the course with you and Maria. She is a great teacher and the 2 of you are a winning combination. Thanks to you both.
This is my favourite Why Not video so far! Couldn't stop laughing at Cody and the expressions on his face! I love the fact that Cody just has a go and doesn't care if he gets things wrong, which is the right way to approach learning a new language. A lesson for us all! Thanks Maria and Cody for these wonderful videos which are very much the right thing at the right time for my level of Spanish. Keep them coming please!
I was dying laughing watching this because i know exactly what Cody was going through and why he was getting them mixed up right away after hearing them. I know a lot of people have the same problem. I know that especially at first i was so focused on listening and figuring out what was being said that i would forget the content or the conversation. So i would have heard and translated everything in my brain but totally forgot the actual message of the conversation and i could see in Cody's face exactly what i go through. Lol.
I don’t know if Cody will read this, since this is a year old video, but if he does, I just want to say that I really felt you being upset and on the verge of tears of not understanding. All that time and effort almost seemed pointless because you couldn’t grasp anything and you feel like you failed, or like you’re incompetent. I felt the same way and seeing you struggle and watching your eyes wander looking for answers really hurt my heart. I felt like crying because I know exactly how you felt here, so your struggles are certainly not solitary to you. You and Maria have been exceptional teachers for me and guides for a long time. You have been one of my few reliable resources for Spanish. I want to say that you both have helped me, and I’m proud to say, become B2 in my Spanish comprehension and utility and I’m working to attain C1. So thank you!! Also, last thing for Cody, thank you for being so courageous to put yourself out there and show you struggle and preserve so that the rest of us don’t feel secluded. You truly are an amazing person and Maria’s teaching style really compliments you and your importance to us as learners. Thank you!
Most words were very very easy! For me, being a Filipino. Fabrica - Pabrika - Factory, Arma - Armas - Weaponry, Duda - Duda - Doubt, I love it when I see similarities in my language with Spanish! That's an advantage. Love your videossss, post more pls xoxoxoxo!
I love these, because there is such good humor on both parts. I often (always feel like Cody). Cody, thanks for helping the rest of us feel like it is ok to try and sometimes we get it right and other times we don't. It's obvious that there is fond affection between the two of you, which keeps things light, even if both of you are like auuuugghhh!
The memory technique of "spaced repetition" is very helpful. This is not to be confused with "spaced-out repetition"; Cody seemed a bit spaced-out. (Google "Anki", and download it if you're attempting to memorize words or phrases. It uses spaced repetition, and it's free.)
¡Hola!
You guys were so funny in this video that I had to watch it a second time because I laughed almost all the way through it the first time. At times, Cody seemed a little distracted. It was hilarious. I love your channel.
I love it how you're completely lost Cody, while Maria's explaining. That's exactly how I'd be without the subtitles. It's very hard for visual learners to remember things by only listening. Are you a visual learner by any chance Cody? It's even hard for me to understand people in my own language when speaking to them. I wish people had subtitles in real life. :-) ... The thing is that when I hear any information verbally, I have to imagine it in my mind visually before I can register it. It sucks! ... I love your explanations Maria, and you're so patient. You're a very good teacher.
Yeah, I am a visual learner for sure. It's funny when we shoot some of the videos I get so lost. But when I am editing them it all makes sense. Then I think why did I have so much trouble with this. -Cody
I need listening , reading and writting things to get them right . Writting is a kind of kinetic learning . I had a hard tume with spelling , even reading a lot . I am a lot better now , and when I doubt about a spelling I need to handwrite things for knowing what is right .
Exactly! I am a visual learner as well and wish I had a bouncy ball reading along the script when I'm with my husband's family in Mexico. As long as I have the Spanish captions at the bottom I can understand the majority of the conversation! I'm impressed that Cody understood the majority of the conversation without the spanish script. Thank you for helping me learn!! You both are amazing!
in spanish speaking countries there is a tag on the room door front: "no molestar" back "por favor" or "limpiar" or something else (i forgot) in philipinas "kumusta" is from spanish cebolla and espejo are like the german words zwiebel, spiegel
I recently saw the video of Cody's comments after a year of learning Spanish, y no puedo creer el nivel de mejora en su español So there is hope for all.
Excelentes videos. Great job guys!!
Jeff M Codys not bad and so neither are you then. Maria spoke in Spanish nearly the whole video and just the fact that he responded and even knew what to respond with was tremendous progress. That's not something someone who's "bad" at the language could do, if you ask me. Just saying. Dont get down. Youre probably better than you realize and we're all trying!
Chenanigans thanks i was joking , i know hes making progress and so am i ,but i thought it was funny when he said he didnt understand anything , and niether did i at that point. Lol
Jeff M True. Without the subtitles sometimes I too get like that lol. But I feel like just knowing even half of what she said (subtitles or not) means we're getting somewhere 😁
Poor Cody. He is very brave to go through all these drills on video. Good thing he has sense of humour. It's fun when he cracks up. (well, not in this video, but other ones, when he is less shy) Thanks Cody, you make the lessons more helpful.
"La duda"... This is a word that perfectly describes what I'm thinking when trying to remember the difference between "dedo","dado" y "duda" lol Buen video! Lo disfruté mucho
7:28 weeeeeelll, he was still kind of right. Arms can also mean weapons in english.
a lot of these make sense: débil (weak) debilitate arma (weapons) armaments, armor, arms (weapons) fábrica (factory) fabricate abogado (lawyer) advocate ...i'm sure there is a latin root word associating these
Excellent Video, i like the fact that cody is finding it hard to learn spanish just like my self, and some spanish words can sound like english words but are completley different. Thanks and keep making more videos
God damn! That was so funny! I’ve been there, I’m sure if the subtitles weren’t on the screen I would have a harder time understanding too. I watched that part a few times and laughed harder every time.
I know this is a 4 year od video but some of these words do make sense when you think about the roots of it like Debil seems similar to debilitate , or capatera and compartment share similar latin roots. Great video nontheless. I like watching these old vids to see how far cody has progressed in his learning.
¡Encantador! 2:04 ... LOL! 5:58 ... "No tiene nada a ver con ..." Es muy interesante, porque, en inglés, decimos: Nothing to DO with ..."
Poor Cody, he seemed a little tired in this video. He hung in there though and did better than I would have done! Anyway great lesson, keep them coming. (Btw, como yo escribo este en Espanol? How do I write this in Spanish?)
You're right. It might have been because we shot that one after work. I am sure you would have paid more attention though! lol well, the way you would write that in Spanish would be something like this: "Pobre Cody. Se veía un poco cansado en este video. ¡Pero resistió y lo hizo mejor de lo que yo lo hubiera hecho! En fin, buena lección. ¡Sígue haciéndolas! 😊 Next time, you have to try to write a comment in Spanish. Don't worry about the mistakes!"
I LOVE that Cody is making mistakes and forgets things that Maria just told him. And "I didn't understand anything" part. Because... I'm NOT ALONE! Love the honesty of this video.
¡Qué motivador!
100% YES!
I've watched a number of videos on this channel. Cody is not the "sharpest tool in the shed.". In recent videos - years after this one - his Spanish is still awful.
I suspect he's acting.
Wow. This is an older video. After watching the newer videos, it is amazing how quickly and how far Cody has come with his Spanish.
It's the defeated look so many of my teachers have given me.
Cody gives me hope because he landed Maria.
This is my favourite Why Not video so far! Couldn't stop laughing at Cody and the expressions on his face! Exactly! I was literally crying I was laughing so hard. God bless Cody for being such a supportive partner in this
I don’t know if Cody will read this, since this is a year old video, but if he does, I just want to say that I really felt you being upset and on the verge of tears of not understanding.

Honestly, I love your videos. You are so funny and I learn a lot here. Thanks a lot! Un abrazo desde Alemania.
Cody is very brave and a great sport!!!
So helpful! I forget everything too! I knew abogado, champiñon, arma, duda y fabrica! woot!
This might be the funniest spanish video I've watched in a while, 10/10
I love these, because there is such good humor on both parts. I often (always feel like Cody). I love how honest he is!!! This is great Maria! @2:28
I think Cody is just trying to make us feel good by being bad. LMAO. I got many of this right!
The memory technique of "spaced repetition" is very helpful. This is not to be confused with "spaced-out repetition"; Cody seemed a bit spaced-out.
(Google "Anki", and download it if you're attempting to memorize words or phrases. It uses spaced repetition, and it's free.)
So helpful to hear someone just speak some basic, conversational spanish-thank you!
Cody is a strong learner, he will learn faster when you stay together, Cody is very good, he is not acting, Cody is real
I did understand when Cody said "ARMS" (as in military arms) for ARMA. The rest, I can't help you dude (LOL)!
love how sweet you are with each other!

Jaja.
poor Cody! I feel your pain on this one! I've seen some later and you really did improve that year!!
You guys were so funny in this video that I had to watch it a second time because I laughed almost all the way through it the first time. At times, Cody seemed a little distracted. It was hilarious. I love your channel.
hahaha I would say he was distracted the whole time! Gracias por ver nuestros videos. ¡Un abrazo!
Actualmente - currently
Realmente - actually
Tan muchos amigos falsos! Estos dos me hace loca. Gracias por este video. Me encanta tu canal
me vuelven loca (trying to be helpful not an a**).
debilitate - to make weak or feeble; enfeeble.
arms - weapons, especially firearms.
fabricate - to make by art or skill and labor; construct.

I agree. I’m Cody too.

Cody is a great sport! Very helpful video :)
your channel is exactly what i've been looking for ages for listening lessons, thanks a lot and keep up the Great Work!
Cody is me😌
thanks for the lesson!! I'll never be deceived again!
Cody has made so much progress since then!
Cody necesita participar en todos las lecciones! Que fue muy cómico! Gracias.
Thank you, so refreshing. I needed to be reminded we all have our days.
THANK YOU CODY !!!! I loved that you forgot things, I am right there with you!! This is GREAT, just lets us know we are not alone!!! THANK YOU!
debildebted but weak
debts /dues = deudas (in german trade slang "passiva")
exit engl=salida span. saida port
Eres un hombre muy valiente, Cody! Bien hecho!
That's a very informative video! And funny :) . Thank you!
¡Gracias a ti por verlo! 🙂
I love their connection lol ! Great videos.
¡Muchas gracias Nikki!
in spanish speaking countries there is a tag on the room door

back "por favor" or "limpiar" or something else (i forgot)
in philipinas "kumusta" is from spanish

A very slight note, in English we call weapons "arms" occasionally so arm for arma isn't necessarily wrong 😅
I recently saw the video of Cody's comments after a year of learning Spanish,
y no puedo creer el nivel de mejora en su español So there is hope for all.
This was laugh out loud funny. Humour is always a useful way to get ideas across.
Buen trabajo! Sabía algunas de las palabras. Muchas gracias 👍
Gracias para todo profesora
This is such an old video it is funny now! Cody has come so far. Nice job bringing him along
“Maestra”!
Cody estaba muy feliz en este video. Yo disfruto sus videos juntos. Gracias por esos. ♥️
Hahahaha poor Cody. Was he asleep? Too many "cervesas"? He was standing right next to Maria, but it's almost like he didn't hear a thing she said. 😂
ajajajja sííííí ¡yo le dije lo mismo! 😂
Por los nervios :-(
Both. Too much partying, too little practice, makes a person nervous. :-)
haha No partying, just tired. I missed a lot of what she was saying because I was focused on how the video was looking and the audio. - Cody
I also teach languages and it happens to me all the time. Hahaha
Gracias excelente .
María muy buena profesora.
Muchas gracias Edgar por tus comentarios. Abrazos.
Hey great video! You should do a video with false friends between spanish and portuguese pleasee
Este video es muy divertido jajajaja ! Me encanta cuando Maria sonríe mischievously....
Excelentes videos. Great job guys!!
Cody...the deer in the headlights look...we relate!
Me encanta tus vidéos. Por siempre estoy ririendo y apprendiendo jaja
¡ Qué divertido! Me reí mucho, gracias.
Cody makes me feel good , he's as bad as i am 😕
Hang in there Jeff! I'm struggling to learn but I am getting there slowly but surely. So if I can do it, so can you! - Cody
Jeff M Codys not bad and so neither are you then. Maria spoke in Spanish nearly the whole video and just the fact that he responded and even knew what to respond with was tremendous progress. Thanks. I always learn something new when I watch your videos.
Me gusto mucho. Más videos de falso amigos por favor.
Poor Cody. He is very brave to go through all these drills on video. Good thing he has sense of humour. It's fun when he cracks up. (well, not in this video, but other ones, when he is less shy) Thanks Cody, you make the lessons more helpful.

Buen video! Lo disfruté mucho
+Snazzwagon Hahaha for me it's like when I was learning the difference between "bear", " beard", and "beer". English is difficult! 😉
He’s improved a lot since then. As I have.
Your videos are great. I love you guys!
Thank you María for an entertaining session! Bueno!
You should do this again, it was fun.
I like Cody. Had fun.
7:28 weeeeeelll, he was still kind of right. Arms can also mean weapons in english.
7:28 entonces, tuvo razon allí. Arms puede tambien significar armas en inglés.

+josef k 😂 ¡Ay! ¡Me encanta esa historia!
Si, eso es complicado. Divertida historia.
This is the best video ever
😂😂😂Cody ha bebiendo muchas cervezas anoche
a lot of these make sense:
débil (weak) debilitate
arma (weapons) armaments, armor, arms (weapons)
fábrica (factory) fabricate
abogado (lawyer) advocate ...i'm sure there is a latin root word associating these
Decepcionante is one of my favourite words in spanish. It sounds like it would be deception/deceiving and, in a way, it is.
Aw, Cody! He’s trying so hard! These are definitely tricky. This was a fun game to play.
How long have you been married? How did you meet? Love the lessons thanks
Good acting Cody! Muy bien :)
Hey guys, you are so funny! I enjoy watching you :)
Got them all except carpeta. Cody you inspire me!
Too funny. I know you said he’s just learning but y’all are too funny/cute
Excellent Video, i like the fact that cody is finding it hard to learn spanish just like my self, and some spanish words can sound like english words but are completley different.

These are popping up as a Spanish language suggestion .... great lesson, just my level like the gringo's ability :) Thank you

I really enjoy your videos - as a beginner you know how to use words that I will need ....
Cody has come so far
embarazada y deportes sounded like embarrassed and deported in English
Muchas gracias
I recently ran into the false friend "banqueta". It looks and sounds like "banquet" but it really means "sidewalk" or "stool".
I understand you Cody
Ay! Sudé viendo a Cody...
!
¡Encantador!
2:04 ... LOL!
5:58 ... "No tiene nada a ver con ..." Es muy interesante, porque, en inglés, decimos: Nothing to DO with ..."
Este muy dividido....Cody..en serio??? Im glad im not the only one with a gold fish memory !
Excelente video.
7:50 Actually here Cody was right when he said the verb "armed".. cos when you have weapons you can say that you are armed.
I thought mushrooms were hongos....does it depend on whether they are being served as food as opposed to growing in the woods?
Poor Cody, he seemed a little tired in this video. He hung in there though and did better than I would have done! Anyway great lesson, keep them coming. (Btw, como yo escribo este en Espanol? How do I write this in Spanish?)

Ya sabia cinco palabras! Yay! Sabia duda, arma, fabrica, abogado, y champinon. =-)
