I’ve been grieving these past few weeks and my accidental encounter with your travel video helped distract me pleasantly. It’s a feeling I haven’t had in some weeks since my tragedy. Thank you for being such sincere and enjoyable people to watch on a happy journey eating, sightseeing, and moving on the rails.
I just saw your video today, and I’m already hooked. You two are a great couple and your voices are so soothing. I am going to watch everything you posted so I can catch up. Best wishes from Cleveland, Ohio.
One of my friend’s triplet sister went to Italy as a high school exchange student. When she finished her college degree, she moved there, met and married the man of her dreams and has been raising her family there. She told me that she could never live in the USA again! Thanks for the beautiful video. One day…
Thank you guys for visiting and showing my beautiful Torino! I miss my city so much and you are one of the few RUclips channels that visits Torino❤ hope you liked it❤
As a 1960s European Rail Courier, now retired in S France, still using railways now that car travel is costly, your unique style of wagon check, range of trains, examples of rail catering, hotel tips, views from carriages, walkabout visits and local restaurants, with fine photography, and your engaging friendly nature produces the very best of RUclips travelogues. I was particularly interested by the train ferry toSicily, having privately used the old Dover to Dunkirk Night ferry , when in postwar UK there was A 50 GBP foreign travel limit entered on passports ,with Customs searches on departure, since out and back ferry train in the old blue wagons lits rolling stock were paid in England making that 50 pounds stretch furher. My agency groups, about 200, travelling from French channel ports were given hired coaches to cross Paris to catch for example the Barcelona expresses overnight with a week of half board in a three star Catalan hotel , top of range agency , all in for about 30 pounds, need to multiply by about 23 for todays prices. You as film makers have no clients to supervise but, behind the scenes and your relaxed style, you are working all the time. do keep on travelling.
I started watching you around 2:00 today and I’m still watching at 8:35. What a fabulous trip and half the fun is seeing what you guys order for your meals. Europe is so impressive with the way the homes are so well taken care of. Everything is so clean. Love it all. But I wish you could spend more time in each city in order to give us more description of things and how the people there actually live.
Awesome video! It made me feel like I was right there with y'all!. What a fantabulous train trip.Thank you grandly, please keep taking us along on your journeys. Peace.
Allie and Rob you both nailed this Italy rail vid out of park! As a lifelong rail fan I stumbled upon your fabulous channel for Amtrak videos. And I'm so glad that I did! I am of Italian ancestry and live in upstate New York. I've been blessed to have visited Italy a half a dozen times over the years. Your video truly captures the magic of that country and its amazing train journeys. Splurging on the executive class tickets on the Frecciarossa was one of the best decisions that I have ever made on my travels - such an amazing high speed train! All the best to you both! BTW the scenes of you both partaking in Italy's tantalizing culinary delights had my mouth watering! :)
Beautiful video. My mother and aunt were from Lucca. Married army buddies after WW2. I was lucky to visit twice. Took the train from Rome to Venice while we were there.
Your trip brought back great memories for me. Following the college graduation of one of our daughhers who wanted to explore Europe, something I had never considered, my wife wanted me to be her travel partner for my wife's piece of mind. This was about 10-15 years ago. My only request was that we ride the rails doing so. One of her 2 vacation 2 week trips there we Included Italy the second week and saw Venice, Florence, Rome, and Naples taking a side tour there for a day trip of Pompeii and the Amalfi coast by bus (also one that saw Pisa). Those two extended trips have been my travel highlights as like you I had done AMTRAK trips of the West originating from St. Louis. I was fortunate that having worked at the same company many years had lots of vacation days. I really liked seeing the high speed rail of Europe and took lots of pictures even at the grand train stations and of their trains. My wife would have not been that much in to all the exhausting walking seeing so much art and history, but my daughter and I really liked it. I really enjoyed your video.
Wonderful travel diary. You are both so much fun to watch! Rob climbing up on the top bunks on the train from Palermo!! Glad you both survived that. I cannot believe that I was in Rome at the same time you were. I was there for three months (I have been going to Rome for 25 years). If I had known you then, I would have taken you to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. Or at least bought you a coffee and a coke. Now, I am hungry just thinking of food in Rome.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful trip!! It inspired me to go to Italy. Friendly advice; it’s easier to eat your pasta with a fork by twisting it in the spoon . 🍝
Even though I will take my trip by driving my car I still like and love watching you guys take the trip it makes me feel like I'm in the trip it is an amazing video to watch so thanks again for putting this video out so we can watch it and both of you guys are very welcoming to watch. Plus we get to see all the places we have not seen. Thanks for the video always safe Journey ❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
It's going to take me a little while to watch this entire beautiful video but I wanted to comment on what I've watched so far so I don't forget 😊 I loved your footage of Venice. I think it's the best I've ever seen. My brother took a trip to Italy and Venice was his favorite city. And now I just finished seeing that amazing place you stayed with the rooftop area. What a beautiful view! Such a nice place to stay and I can't believe you only paid 30.00 a night. And yes even at 100.00 a night it's a steal 😊
Nothing personal but you need to learn how to eat pasta get a spoon a large spoon he is the fork on top of the spoon to twirl the pasta there's lots of RUclips videos showing you exactly how to do it it's so much easier than trying to cut it and eat it the way you are do it I really enjoy your train trip thank you for sharing
Your in depth knowledge of your destinations held my attention for countless hours! The two of you are just so charming and enchanting. I hope to meet you both one day😄 You inspired me to book a trip on AMTRAX soon.🙌🏽
Thanks Rob & Allie. I thoroughly enjoyed this trip to Italy with you. I hope to visit Italy one day and see the Italian countryside and visit some of the vineyards there. I would love to stay at a villa. If some of my family want to go, we could make it a group trip. Also helpful in splitting the costs making it less expensive for everyone.
Allie, how wonderful that you speak Italian! Italy is on my bucket list. I’m thinking of using Babbel to give me enough Italian to get by. I know there will be times that I won’t be able to find an English speaking person.
I love you guys so kind and warm hearted. Very detailed in all your videos. I from Cincinnati and the Amtrak here is the Cardinal only runs three days a week Sun, Mon, Thurs, hopefully I can make it work when I travel in the Spring.
Wow you did the whole shabang. I like Italian trains. Not expensive. You paid $150 each for a 6 hour trip in F. In the UK we paid $250 for a 3 hour trip. But we had heavy luggage. First class was empty in Italy (not in the UK) so it was helpful from Tropea to Salerno with a stop in Maratea. We are going to Bari. Now we have an idea of the train. Thanks.
This is a great compilation of the "shorts" posted as you traveled! It's fun to revisit all those places. Since the chance of me actually getting there is slim to none, I travel vicariously, "with you". The mix of very old and relatively new is so fascinating. And that Fiat test track and auto museum were so cool! OK, I admit, I watch one or two other RUclips channels. On one, "The American Viscountess" is renovating a little house in the Tuscany area (plans to put it on AirB&B), and she describes American coffee in Italy as a double espresso with a side of very hot water, so one can dilute it to taste. (Seriously, like the Turkish, it needs chocolate!) Today I noticed Rob's glasses colors match his cap. Stylin'! Somehow, I end up hungry after these videos. LOL
Love your videos…they are splendid. One thing when you have your meals, describe what you are eating in more details. Some of the food looks quite delicious and the scenery is awesome ❤❤
Super informative video! One of the best ever. We’re going to Rome and Florence in May/June for 19 days, nothing like your long trip. The train info was great and, as always, the food was well presented the food queen 😂 I especially enjoyed your stay in Monopoli in the Bari region. First time eyeing the extensive set up of trulli’s. My family is from Bari so know I really have to go there. Monopoli looked awesome. Would you recommend doing all the train purchases on the Trenitalia app? Thanks for all you do for us beginner travelers. Hope to hear your updates on the California Amtrak situations.
Really enjoyed this. I never did hear you say how your Georgian meal was. I looked great. I think I would weigh a ton! I'm just catching up on your travels.
Loved all the videos. Gonna take my first trip in a roomette to Chicago in May. When I see ally’s braids I can’t help but wonder- is ally native-American? In any case I love the braids lol
I fascinated about your travel so calm ....and well organized. I'm going to Lucca next month, may I know what's the name of the restaurant had 2nd floor that you had light dinner platter grapes slices salami prosciutto and wine ?? Thank You.
@@GroundedLifeTravel Thank You ! I just checked all sold out in May. You and your husband so inspirational love story and your personality is totally different from other travellers
Can you say “when” you went? How cold was it? I see your coats & hats. Also, I would love to hear more about costs if you would share. I found the Airbnb you had in Venice & it’s like $200/night this winter - Jan thru April. I guess your advertising raised the price!
We love following your channel(s)! Thank you for all of the information. In this video you stayed at an AirBnb in Venice. It is the one on the canal. Sometime later you did a review video where you gave more information on that stay. I think the host was named "Bruno." I cannot for the life of me find that video and my wife and I would like to stay there. Would you kindly direct me to the review video? To help, I think you also reviewed a place in Lucca, Italy in the same video but I may be wrong on that. Much thanks to both of you!!!
I really enjoy your videos, as I love trains too! A question for you: when you ate at the Georgian restaurant, in Bologna, was I correct in assuming that it was "Georgian," as in Eastern Europe, not the American state of Georgia? Thanks again for your great videos!
We will be traveling to Spain and Italy in October. I was wondering if you can share what size and type of luggage you would recommend to use since we will be going to 4 different cities while there airplane and train travel. Thanks. Beautiful video.
Love all the trips. You guys need to get out more. Love you. On the canals of Venice is there a rush hour on boats where there is traffic? As always love the travel music.
Love your videos, so enjoyable and informative; everything you have shared just inspires me. Did you speak any Italian at all while you were there? How was the communication in regards interactions and also figuring out systems/routes/ticketing?
I’ve been watching many of your Amtrak videos and now your Italy videos as my wife and I will be doing a tour of Italy by train later this year. I always find your videos very informative and a definite must see before you go anywhere by train. I do have one question regarding the local trains in Cinque Terre, is there any room for luggage on these trains?
@feed206 I recall recently hearing that the water level in Venice was receding and saw a news video on RUclips that showed the boats sitting in very little water. There was a lot of concern there about the water levels.
were taking it from florence to venice in a month. Which train would you recommend the fast train or scenic train. I hear the ride is beautiful. Are you guys @ groundedlife travel from ATL. I saw rob wearing a braves shirt along the way?
Hi!! I have not even finished watching the video yet and wanted to send you a comment. I love how you explain things. What is the name of the Airbnb that you guys stayed at in Venice?
Yes, but not in the classes that we rode, so if you are going to get business class etc... It might work out better to buy them individually, which is what we did.
I love your videos, very informative and helpful for travellers. I have a question though. Do you know if it's difficult changing train in Bologna to go to Ravenna. It gives a warning when purchasing tickets to ensure you can make the change from the platforms in 13 minutes.
Great Channel! My Wife and I are traveling to Italy in May of next Year, and I have a couple of questions that maybe you can help me with. 1. Luggage Storage - Are the Lockers at the Venice and Rome Train stations Large enough to accommodate Large Bags? 2. Loved the B&B you stayed in in Venice. How do I contact them? Looking forward to your response. Cheers, Jim
The link to the Airbnb should be in the description, along with the others they use. Big bags in general are hard to store as they use smaller bags than in the USA, but I'm not sure of the exact sizes you could store.
When you are out of the US, do you worry about connecting to WI-FI? I was wondering if it would be better to have a VPN? Don’t know much about VPN’s but I’m assuming that that means having your own personal connection without connecting to someone else’s WI-FI. Would it be safer to have a VPN and is it possible to use it when you are out of the US?
This is so fun and interesting to watch. One question though. Air Bnb's in the US have a lot if extra fees added on so its actually cheaper to go to a hotel sometimes, does Europe have extra fees added onto air bnb's?

I have to say that the focaccia sandwich that Rob had was really enough for two people. Half of that sandwich and a coffee would be enough for me.
We were in Venice when the streets were flooded. We walked on wooden planks. It just added to the ambiance

Love the videos. I believe parts of Venice floods quite often these days, did it happen while you were there?
We didn't have any flooding or rain, so I guess we were pretty luck based on what everyone is saying now on the video!
@@GroundedLifeTravel you had the Fair Weather Faries travelling with you there.
@feed206 I recall recently hearing that the water level in Venice was receding and saw a news video on RUclips that showed the boats sitting in very little water. There was a lot of concern there about the water levels.
How long do you usually stay in each location? Like the long term rentals, nice to have more space and a kitchen..
We are going to turino and milan over Christmas... can't wait! Thanks
Have a great time, we loved it!
were taking it from florence to venice in a month. Which train would you recommend the fast train or scenic train. I hear the ride is beautiful. Are you guys @ groundedlife travel from ATL. I saw rob wearing a braves shirt along the way?
Yes we are from ATL! We would take the fast train, that's what we usually do.
Hi!! I have not even finished watching the video yet and wanted to send you a comment. I love how you explain things. What is the name of the Airbnb that you guys stayed at in Venice?
Are any of those trains included on the Eurail pass?
Yes, but not in the classes that we rode, so if you are going to get business class etc... It might work out better to buy them individually, which is what we did.
Oh wow 😳 what got you guys so into train traveling???
Hello, your video is nice,I want to know u booked ur train in advance or u paid in station.thank you
We booked in advance on ItaliaRail except really short rides we booked at the station.
Cheers,
Jim
The link to the Airbnb should be in the description, along with the others they use. Big bags in general are hard to store as they use smaller bags than in the USA, but I'm not sure of the exact sizes you could store.
OMG this video is soooooooo great. I am a bit jealous. I used to travel a lot before my disability. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Do y’all have a home base?
We are from Atlanta
When you are out of the US, do you worry about connecting to WI-FI? I was wondering if it would be better to have a VPN? Don’t know much about VPN’s but I’m assuming that that means having your own personal connection without connecting to someone else’s WI-FI. Would it be safer to have a VPN and is it possible to use it when you are out of the US?
Just wondering if there is ever any concern for the causeway and the train station in Venice during the high water time?
Good question, I'm not sure. It looked pretty high, but I'm not sure how high the water could rise there.
So few people around, the towns generally look like ghost places.
It was really pretty empty, which made the prices low! We didn't mind being able to move around pretty freely.
This is so fun and interesting to watch. One question though. Air Bnb's in the US have a lot if extra fees added on so its actually cheaper to go to a hotel sometimes, does Europe have extra fees added onto air bnb's?
While you were on your trip with Italy , Did you go and see the Volcano 🌋 with Pompeii? Hope you didn't mind me asking LoL 😂
