    I travel between Philadelphia and Fort Worth several times a year as a solo traveler. I always get roomettes because I feel safer as a senior single woman traveler. My last few trips on the Cardinal I have had the Viewliner II car. On my trip last month, I was on the Texas Eagle and was not happy with how clean the attendant kept the restroom upstairs. When I got on the Cardinal, I was very pleased to see it was a Viewliner I and I had the commode in the room. I really like this option, although I totally understand how it could be an issue for two people in the room. Always enjoy your videos and hope to run into you on the rails someday!

    A friend and I took the Empire Builder last summer, and took your advice about getting roomettes across from each other. It worked out really well for us.

    Thank you for your video. I just saw a story on tv about an 82 year old lady that runs the train stop at Castleton ,Vermont. It closed in the 1960s. It opened back up in 2010 and she still "mans" the little station and greets whatever passengers that might come and gives them, as well as the Amtrak crew, homemade brownies. I don't know if you've been up that way, but I thought about you both when seeing this story. Blessings 💕

    Did the roomette on the silver star. Did bedroom on the california zephyr and have an upcoming trip on the Empire Builder. That will be a bedroom. Being in our 70's, a roomette for short trip is fine, but longer, we prefer bedroom.

    Thanks for the video. That said, for me, always a Romette. Good or bad, I love the Roomette.

    Viewliner 2 looks very nice especially the windows up above for the person sleeping in the penthouse.

    Video of Rob actually climbing up into his Superliner upper berth would be very helpful! I've ridden on that upper bunk and I feel certain there must be a better way to get up there...

    I think I might have seen you two at the station in Denver but didn’t want to say anything in case I was wrong. I wanted to say that MECLIZINE is the absolute best advice. I used to just do the ginger chews but now I’ve got meclizine and zofran and GAME CHANGER. Thank you.

    I wanted to specify the Viewliner II for the next Lake Shore Limited trip, so I called instead of booking online. The reservations person agreed to my request, so I hope you were mistaken about that. I believe the Viewliner II has one less roomette than the Viewliner I to allow for a bathroom for the car. It would make sense that Room #10 would only be available on the latter train, which the agent would see. I also was able to request an even-numbered room on the side of the Hudson River, as well as an upstairs room on the connecting Southwest Chief. It helps to be familiar with the cars' layout and room numbering.

    Hypothetical trip for me and my partner: I'd sleep up top and he'd be able to drain his bladder easily, without the added noise and commotion of opening and closing the door twice. I think having the commode in the roomette is a positive bonus

    I booked the Empire Builder, Coast Starlight and California Zephyr for next month due to your reviews and suggestions. I am traveling by roomette on the Empire Builder and California Zephyr. While I am looking forward to it, I am aware of the maintenance issues. I am keeping an eye on the weather.

    TY... got a question... How big is the space under the seat in the Superliner roomette, would a med size luggage fit?

    When you book, can you pick your roomette locations (like with airline seats and cruise cabins) to guarantee that are opposite each other?

    I'm going on Lakeshore Limited in April- I'm still using the one in the hall, no matter which room I get.I'm just not going to do my business that close to where my head is when I sleep.

    A few months back I tried to buy a couple of Amtrak tickets online at the official site. There was a glitch so I booked online with a 3rd party. I got my tickets ok but about 10 days later the third party had billed us an additional $500. Luckily our credit card company flagged it but wouldn't have been as lucky had we used a debit card. Can't remember the name of the site to share it.

    How much is a normal tip if you have your meals delivered to your room

    • @neutrino78x
      @neutrino78x 10 дней назад

      well, bear in mind you don't HAVE to tip them at all. To me, tipping them is like tipping your bus driver. It is public transit, after all. And those guys make like $25/hr. But I dunno, perhaps $2 per meal, if you insist. 🙂

    How do you know what type of car your train has when you book?

    • @chrisdobrowolski2783
      @chrisdobrowolski2783 17 дней назад +1

      You will do not know since the employees do not even know which cars they get till they board the train they are working on. Just for reference for a train running west abd south from Chicago will be Superliner cars but that you can be in a superliner 1 or superliner 2 cars and those trains are 2 floors and most have an observation car and real cooked meals on the train, east of Chicago mostly Viewliner cars which are either viewliner 1 or Viewliner 2 cars and those are only 1 floor cars and no observation car on those trains and ncrivabke meals on this trains

    I was looking to go to Florida from St. Louis. Over $3000 for a room.

      It's ridiculous.

    • @neutrino78x
      @neutrino78x 10 дней назад

      Really? How far ahead? I just ran the search for St. Louis to Orlando, Florida, and it was like 1848. That's for two people in one room, traveling on February 20th.
      It's like airplanes, you have to book ahead if you want the room to be cheaper. 🙂
      Personally I would fly for that; that's a really long distance on the ground. But the train will be more scenic, so I guess you're looking for the scenic route. I've done that a few times. 🙂
      Just a seat (coach) on amtrak is about the same cost as a flight, but you definitely want rooms for a long trip on Amtrak. 🙂

      One thing you consider is to get a rail pass and time things so you spending some nights off the train in a hotel.
