When I first saw the Amygdala in Yarghul, I counted about 7 or 8. When I eventually found the Advent Plaza I noticed some chairs were empty. It amounted to around the same number of lesser amygdalas. I concluded that most of Mensis died when performing the ritual but those few survived and were granted wisdom from Mergo resulting them morphing and mutating into Amygdalas. The amygdala heads/skulls resembled distorted Mensis cages so it was obvious that they wore the cages to prevent transformation thus their brains being crushed or "stillborn". I put this theory on Reddit when I came up with it

The heads also look somewhat like the texture of the amygdala within the human brain. I think the stillbirth of the brains refers to the Brain of Mensis. However, we know all Great Ones search for a surrogate child: what if Amygdala (the original) collected those from Mensis with the most pliable brains and tried to make new Amygdalas, only resulting in lesser versions with no initiative of their own?

The "Lawrence is your friend, mission to find him" was supposedly the original plot line of bloodborne. The idea was that you and Lawrence go to yharnam for the blood to cure some undisclosed illness, which causes your character to pass out for like 3 weeks, at which point they wake up in some mansion or something and someone (presumably gehrman) tells you that Lawrence left a few weeks ago so you gotta find him. Since you consumed 3/3 of umbilical cords (one whole) you have (lore wise) the power of a Great One, which is what pushes the Moon Presence back when it tries to "wheelchair" you. This doesn't really proof it tho? Since the whole dlc takes place in the hunters nightmare, doesn't matter if you go up or down, it has nothing to do with theory that all nightmares are stacked on each other.
In short, the hunter's nightmare going up isn't proof that all nightmares are stacked up on each other, since in the nightmare of amegdala(bad at remembering names), you actually go down instead of up, so if all the nightmares go up than this would be proof of the theory

About the cainhurst in yharnam thing... The whole map of the waking world doesn't exactly make now because they have been A LOT undecisive on how to put toghether the areas they had; in specific, there is a HUUGE untextured and undetailed map file in the game which looks like it could have been the back of the grand cathedral; evidence of this is that the chains for the altar in the grand cathedral to be an elevator are present in the waking world too, meaning you could have reached upper areas of the cathedral from there. Thus, the research hall is located inside the tower ABOVE the grand cathedral (I'm not talking about the one visibile from all the other areas of yharnam, but about the one further back, taller and with clocks on all 4 sides). Anyway, they had ideas for some kind of area to be above and behind the grand cathedral, as evidenced by the fact that every time you see yharnam and the clocktowers from far away during the game, there always is some sort of buildings clusterfuck behind the towers. Also, there is geometry for stairs going up instead of the elevator that leads to ebrietas. Back to the untextured map piece of before, it has some striking similarities to cainhurst, for example a sort of broken bridge and even what looks like an area above the main antrance of a huge building basically identical looking to one in cainhurst.
    Side-note
It was probably planned for the player to explore the top, the roof of the astronomical clocktower (the one most hyped throughout the game, not the further back one this time) as it has a fully textured top despite the player is never able to see it and there is a bridge between it and the back tower, that of the research hall, in the waking world. As you can see, a lot of ideas were reused in the DLC.
If you want some more info like this I suggest you to listen to some of jsf podcasts and to lurk in the modding discord of the soulsborne series, or even jsf and lance McDonald's discord servers.

I think the one about the doll being modeled after a Cainhurst noble is based off the theory that Maria herself was not only from Cainhurst, but was also a distant relative of Queen Annalise. This theory is heavily supported by the fact that all of the item descriptions for her armor set end in “This was her hunter’s [insert clothing article here], crafted in Cainhurst.” and the fact that the outfit itself bares many similarities to the knight set, which is found in Cainhurst. The item description of Rakuyo further supports this by saying “A trick sword originated in the same country as the Cainhurst Chikage, only this sword feeds not off blood, but instead demands great dexterity. Lady Maria was fond of this aspect of the Rakuyo, as she frowned upon blood blades, despite being a distant relative of the queen.” I think at this point the theory that the doll was modeled after Maria is widely accepted as fact, and all evidence points to Maria being a resident of Cainhurst with blood relations to the Queen, thus meaning that the doll is in fact based off of a Cainhurst noble.

I believe the requirement for hearing the baby cry is having 60 insight OR killing Rom. Since Rom is the one who was acting as a barrier between the human world and the world of the Great Ones, killing him causes the changes throughout the world, reveals the amygdalas, and causes the baby's cry to be heard. But the more insight you have, the more these things become apparent before then.

Most knights did not actually wear leg armor whilst on horseback, as it hindered their ability to ride. Instead, they wore leather boots. The legs are not depicted on the armor, most likely, because the boots would hinder the splendor of the armor of both the horse and knight. Great video!

Laurence's body is the bloodletting beast, controlled by the parasite that emerges midway through the fight with the headless version. We fight the actual laurence in the DLC, but this is essentially his soul, which has moved into the hunter's nightmare after his death. Evidence for this is the japanese name translating to 'host of the beast blood', which makes sense for Laurence as he would be the first to imbibe of beast blood as the founder of the Healing Church. Also, if you compare Laurence's skull (prayed to by Amelia) with the head of the bloodletting beast, the structure and wound position are incredibly similar.
Lastly, the point that we fight multiple bloodletting beasts is simply due to the fact that in the chalice dungeons, every boss bar Yharnam is reused. We can see the same with Rom: we know that the waking world Rom is the only one, yet she shows up multiple times in the dungeons.

Not only is there a LOT that's wrong, but for the iceberg being "FULLY EXPLAINED", there's a lot that's just left as "I don't know anything about this" "I think it's this maybe" "I hadn't heard about this before but it could be this" "check out this other source for information" etc etc. I might've typed out some long ass bullet points going over the mistakes, but apparently there's, thankfully, a revised version coming along. Perhaps the Orphin of Kos is releasted to Gehrman in a way.
It is a nightmare after all, the hunters nightmare.
From it we see that the Doll was based off of Lady Maria, and after we kill the Orphin the doll tells us that German is sleeping peacefully, I personally think Gehrman and other hunters killed or did something horrible and were cursed with a never ending nightmare, many people become trapped within it, but Gehrman wasn't because he was in the hunters dream, and is unable to leave it because of the moon presence using him to host the dream.
As for that thing, I think it wants to kill other great ones, ether by killing them the normal way or find some other way to kill them.

I like the theory that the old blood is taken from Queen Yharnam, that's why she's handcuffed when you fight her, and the blood all over her/Mergo's stillborn body (The Yharnam Stone) are the source of the "old blood". Thing about bloodborne is there's very little substantive evidence for alot of theories so alot of the theory crafting is interpretive, and there's alot of random stuff that makes no sense, like I'm only 20 minutes in so I don't if you mention this but the townsfolk you fight mention a bunch of name's in their dialogue that are never mentioned anywhere else, it's bizarre and I have no good idea what it means. The lore is designed to be an impenetrable spiral that sends one down rabbit holes inside your own mind alongside the game and the lore itself until you're in the kind of fervered mad mindset that Micolash is when you fight him. It's fucking genius.

as for the bit about gherman and the orphan having the same cry audio, the link is 100% intentional. along with this, gherman and the orphan share the same exact death animation, and have other similar reused audios. in addition, when you kill the orphan the doll says that gherman feels relieved in some way. i’m not sure what all these connections mean lore wise, maybe gherman ascended to the status of a great one in the waking world, and only now lives in on in the form of the hunters dream? i have no clue, but the connections are there and definitely intentional.

    • @tylerpimentel906
      @tylerpimentel906 3 года назад +26

It's implied that the old hunters were Laurance, Ludwig, Maria and Gherman. They were there the day the fishing hamlet was attacked because they were the ones doing it. The connection between KOS(aswell as the orphan) and Gherman is supposedly that Gherman had killed KOS. The people of the hamlet cursed all hunters to living an unending death in the Nightmare (this curse can be heard changed by Maria when entering the campaign, young Gherman after killing the Orphan and the people of the hamlet through ambient sound files). Obviously Gherman isn't in the Nightmare, likely due to the intervention of the moon presence however it's more than likely he will end up there after he is killed in the dream (he doesn't show up after he is killed in the campaign but it isn't clear if the player is supposed to circumvent the moon presence). Likely the Orphan becomes a representation of Gherman as he was when he killed KOS or actually is the Orphan that Gherman failed to kill in the past acting as his anguish in the Nightmare. This is of course a theory and an interpretation but it seems logically sound.

I see it as kind of like cross-pollination in flowers. The grief and tragedy of what happened to Kos and the inhabitants of the Fishing Hamlet, the regrets that Gehrman now holds and is haunted by are lingering on in the Hunter's Nightmare. Basically I believe the Orphan of Kos to be a representation of all of that negativity and regret and horror.

The Cleric Beast shortcut was cut because of PS4 streaming and loading issues.
FromSoftware had a lot of problems getting Bloodborne to run properly on the PS4 and one of the issues was Cathedral Ward wouldn’t have been installed and loaded in by the time you got to that part of the game. So they opted to cut it, to force players to go around the long way in. This was changed fairly late in the development because in the demo, that door did have the function active, but it was never used.

My theory about the orphan and Gerhman connection; for the first teaser of The old hunters, there is a brief shot of what looks like Gerhman walking through the hamlet, I think he likely had a hand in the “defilement” of the town while he was helping Byrgenwarth. Likely similar to how the hunter (you) take on the echoes of the great ones after you defeat Rom, Gehrman does a similar thing when he finds Kos.
But going a little deeper Gehrman only rarely shows up in the hunters dream with the Doll mentioning how he rarely shows himself, first time taking to Gehrman he even mentions Ludwig who we know is now a terrible beast, it could be that he isn’t forgetting the name but merely remembering what a horrible monster he’s become. Either way I think because of the curse cast on him and the hunters for their sins anytime Gehrman disappears he is sleeping and forced to become the orphan of Kos, having to also see the endless hunt that is the nightmare and see all the people he cared about, Laurence, Ludwig, and Maria in the horrible states because of him, while also symbolizing his loneliness,/abandonment as he continues to hope he’ll be unshackled. It is the hunter who ends up ending the nightmare and coming to rescue Gehrman.
Other theories: the eye of the blood drink hunter belongs to Valtr the leader of the confederates. He wears the bucket with only one hole as he tore out the eye and is hiding what is likely a blood drunk face, only desperately holding onto his humanity by focusing on the mission to squash vermin, he likely witnessed many of his former compatriots succumb to the blood and get swallowed into the nightmare (Yamamura for example), his hope is to find a worthy successor who can also end the nightmare thereby freeing him and all other hunters, once you proved yourself he is then swallowed by the nightmare as well, but with the eye you can now traverse into the nightmare in order to end it.
The eye can also belong to Simon as well seeing how he is always holding onto his head around the eye and wears a head bandage likely to hide the blood drunk eyes, perhaps he accidentally became blood drunk and forced into the nightmare.

I really like your hypothesis regarding the Eye of a Blood-drunk Hunter! My inclination would be for it to belong to Valtr, since as you mentioned, he seems to be clinging on to his ideals, but he has lost the ability to see vermin long ago, according to the Master's Iron Helm description, and thus, is very close to giving in to a blood drunk state. However, the Eye of a Blood-drunk Hunter is a "left eye" and the peep hole on the Master's Iron Helm/One-eyed Iron Helm is for the left eye.

Paleblood refers to the Moon Presence. It's pretty clear in the original Japanese, but was lost in localization.

So the thing about the Hunter Rune, there are two things that should be pointed out about it. The first is that it's very clearly inspired by the curse mark from Berserk, for those not familiar with it, and second is that it's supposed to look like a hanged body. People and dead bodies used to be hung from trees by their legs and would have their hands tied. So it's less the body resembling the rune and more the fact the design of the rune was based on hanged bodies.
