Wow! Thank you for posting this most incredible video. The "student" has exceptional technique and plays beautifully. It is amazing to hear Repin's insightful comments and playing that enhances the student's rendition of this virtuosic piece.
@@juanmendozaorellana no, I am not. The boy has enormous technical skills but is a poor in his musicianship. But the technique is only a toolkit to make music. Nowadays is all making music reduced on a speed how fast you can play this or that… this was a sense of my message
Thank you for sharing. It is always interesting to hear the outcomes when a talented student meets a famous player. Sometimes it works, often it doesn't. When it does, like here, its inspiring. When I find these kinds of clips, I then look then up to see how they're doing now. Sometimes they make the transition from gifted youngster to fully fledged artist. I looked up the student, who seems to have done well. Im not surprised.
Ahh I’m not even sure the violinist needs Mr. Repin. 🤣🤣🤣 I’m joking of course, but the violinist is that good. The one thing that is immediately apparent to my ears is that Vadim, even though he’s out of practice, can make the melody sound breathtaking because he knows how to manipulate dynamics. That is one of the key defining characteristics of world-class musicians … they are masters of dynamics. Once this kid masters that, and really learns to manipulate it, watch out.
I love Repin and the student has a fantastic technique. It's too bad that he doesn't feel the music more than imitation. The music,, he just doesn't get it,,all though technically to die for.
ничего не поняла по английски про фантази, но ясно что Репин просит про стремление вперед и не застревание на месте) Ну и еще что он не плотник, а музыкант) И мне кажется что студент в теме не слушает паузы в основной теме(
David Zatiashvili the point was to pay attention to the transitions between the thirds, without distractions. Depending on the next thirds, a little flat or sharper to transmit the mood. In real performance vibratos of course.
The student was terrific. Repin was a pain in the ass. His tone was harsh. He seemed ill-prepared. Was he sitting with his legs crossed? Isn't that posture in this situation disrespectful? Goodbye Repin. Hello Tim Chooi.
Bennett Markel I mean it depends how the guest artists wants to run the master class. Often, they'll chose a less formal setting. This may also be his teaching style. It's kind of nice to see that the real professionals aren't always stiff collared
Henri Roy but not where the subtlety counts. Tim’s play was very functional and efficient, but lacking a “range”. Repin was trying to expand the student’s horizon to be not a robot.
rather curious situation the student plays better than so called prof. Repin being supposed to demonstrate even at least an average level of violin playing. I guess he was to some extent a headache department for his professor Zakhar Bron. just find on the you tube the video " Repin" and you'll understand how he has become a "celebrity" due to a tremendous contribution of Mr. Bron to his musical development. apart from this, his broken English simply gets on nerves. But a student is a quite talented. Best of luck to him ;)
ruclips.net/video/Xt6nzIy66eQ/видео.html Is this the video you’re referring to? Well, I suppose then you could perform all the techniques in Paganini’s La Campanella better at that same age. The role of a teacher is not to perfectly perform each note of each piece a student play for them on the spot but rather, to pass on his or her knowledge and experience and help them find a different approach to the challenges they face.
It was not the accuracy of the notes or tempo Repin was after, rather it was quite the opposite, to make the student to play out of comfort zone to feel more possible ways to play the same phrases. It was so obvious after the first crescento to high note, and then the glissandos
Repin does not play worst than the student… as myself being a professor of music and a teacher the sense of teaching is not to play it at the moment better than the student but give him advice and musical or technical ideas about the performance. As a teacher you can’t be ready to play every piece better than the students particularly not of such difficulties without preparation. Sorry your comment is a bit not professional and not considering the reality
Wow! I cant believe that this is on here. It was such a treat to work with Mr. Repin!
i rewatched this and i was thinking this particular bow hold can only be timothy's
