Ren is already working on a pitch to Netflix to create something for them. In addition to his musical, acting and producing skills, I think he will one day be famous as a film director. He is incredible!
He said he's planning to shoot a full pilot with his crew before he pitches it, so he shows them he's serious.
He already has six episodes written I think he said. In the Black Pegasus interview which was great if anyone hasn't seen it.

These are live performances, there's no overdubs or backing tracks, or anything that most videos do. It's a live performance. He sings the song, and plays the guitar, and they record it.

Look for Ren in red suspenders! There are several videos of various Big Push performances of Sheriff, but the mash up has the most fantastic sound and video quality! Just magical fun to watch.

Ren has a live 360 version of Jenny/Screech/Violet on his channel. They put up a small stage (without permits) where Screech's Tale was shot, and he performed all three songs in front of a bunch of people. If you do watch it, make sure to look around (it's a 360 video, after all), otherwise you'll miss Ren's spectacular entrance and the kids singing along to the lyrics. 😅

Yep, I watched it too, it was sooo good. RENs love performances are always fun and musically excellent. So glad I live in the Uk, hopefully when he gets home from Canada, he’ll be well enough to do more & I’ll get to see him “in the flesh”, Brighton’s not that far from Cornwall, I’ll travel 6 hours to see REN, anytime.

loved hearing y'all argue about whether it's live or not. No Drink Harlow loses; it's live. You can really tell if you pay attention to the noises you don't hear in most videos: his fingers hitting the guitar, his jacket rustling, when he leans against the door in the alley.... Plus, he said so!

To me Ren is mix of Dawid Bowie and Charles Bukowsky. If you don't know Bukowsky I suggest you check his poems.Ren knows his work, he talked about it on one of the interview he gave to a small YTber. Charles B said "some people never go mad, what boring life they must lead" and Bowie just a genre on its own like Ren is. I’m sure it was said before but all three videos were live recorded there on set that’s why you can here the guitar moving on his jacket and the door shut when he leans against it and like the main guy says the when he is passing through the different rooms in Violets tale the reverb of the rooms change as he changes rooms.

At 33 years old, his lyrics, poetry etc run the gamut, he is astutely literate. Ren has no particular genre in music, he is JUST music. He is all about music and what music can do and how it makes someone feel. Everything Ren does is either fun, sad, outrageous, crazy, deep with meaning, or educational.

No Drink. YOu can see the lapel mic he is using. Further the camera has a mic on it too. Ren plays the guitar and sings at the same time and there is not track over the actual. Ren and Sam practiced the choreography of the movements throughout then ran a few takes and chose one to use in the video. There is a live version of the Tales where Ren performs the same for a large audience outdoors in Brighton. Watch that.
I can just hear reMARKable telling the other guys to watch The Sixth Sense, "Hey guys, go watch this crazy movie, wait until the twist at the end, it will blow your mind!" Cmon man, just telling the guys that the end of the Violet's Tale will blow your mind, kind of takes some of that surprise away since now they are waiting for it. Otherwise, great reaction everyone!

He's mic'd up guys with a lavalier mic, can clearly see it. And there will be another mic on the camera and maybe one or two dotted about. Of course there will be a bit of editing or mixing in the studio to clear up some noise, but each of these was basically done live, and he's stated as much. Not only that, but there are additional pieces to this story (the Instagram stories) that can be found on his facebook page that were also done live. So, on Ren's videos: He records the sound live during the video performance. He has a lava mic clipped to his clothing, and Sam has a mic on the camera. Then they clean up the sound on post to smooth it out. The comments you made about him living with that guitar are more or less the truth. He practices the guitar parts until he can do them in his sleep, so when it's time to film, he can focus on the singing and acting.
Fun fact: During Screech, they did have a take ruined 'cause someone yelled at them. Violet was delayed for hours because of construction and then rain. It was near morning before they finally got the shoot finished.

Each story is one take, live performing. He wears a mike… you can really hear it when Screech reaches into his pocket for his cell phone. You hear the rustling of his jacket.
He filmed it here where I live in Brighton, UK. Ren has lived here since the age of 19. He didn’t have ‘permission’ to film on the streets in the middle of the night & the police were called a few times due to there being a man shouting violently at someone! The police came out so many times to REN over the yrs that they would turn up with a smile when they realised ‘oh, it’s ok! It’s just Ren!’😅
His vidiographer ,Sam , is better than Richie. He has been with Ren from the begining . Money game 3 is the biggest budget for a video they have ever had and I think Power is the the most limited costing about 50 pounds , Sam is the one driving the car in that . I dont think they get permission to film I heard Sam say " its easier to apologise than get permission. I think that filming is made easier because Brighton is a holiday town , busy in the summer and much more quiet in winter .They have made some amazing stuff with almost no money .

Brighton won’t call the cops.😂 anybody within earshot will just assume it’s somebody creative doing something creative. As for permits, I think the city is pretty easy-going about the street performances. It’s a huge part of what gives the place such a great atmosphere and reputation.. you should go!

Reggae - either watch The Big Push doing I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop (Red Suspenders Ren thumbnail is the most electric performance) or for a little hint of reggae vibes, Ren's song Murderer from earlier this summer. The official music video version is FIRE (and it looks like a 1-take but in fact it's a very clever 1-take fake), and he then did a live acoustic version of it that's really cool (& very different from the original).
Today's trilogy video - each song is 100% a live take. No way could you "air guitar" believably to Screech's intro, probably not Violet's intro either. And you can hear stuff like at the end of Jenny's Tale I think it is, you can hear his jacket moving/rustling against the guitar neck. When you get into The Big Push's material, you'll find out about Ren and his live performance audio recording wizardry. His health didn't permit for him to tour, remember (I think at some moments of TBP's history, he was still ill enough that it would n't have been advisable to commit to a full-on show venue, like, with ticket sales and shit), so busking was his LIFE. Meanwhile, he'd been learning about recording and producing since about age 12, I think. So he figured out how to get damn good live recordings from gear he could afford, and he mixed the audio afterwards, to put on whatever video had been captured from the performance.
So yes - live 1-takes that use the live audio too - it's LIVE live (The Hunger and Genesis, for example, are videos they shot in 1 take, BUT in those ones he's lip sync'ing his rap verses, and the audio is the studio recording for the album). But he then cleans up the live audio afterwards, if it needs it. Some Big Push busking videos it seems to me that he really bumps the crowd sound up at specific moments, for example (or mixes it wayyyyyy down, most of the time, or whatever).
Edit - Oh, I forgot! You mentioned how well-worn his guitar is, right at the beginning of Jenny's Tale.
It's the same guitar that we saw get beat up when he accidentally steps on it/"kicks" it while it's on the ground in Money Game 1!
(I mean, who knows what other rough treatment it has seen in its lifetime beyond that, but I've seen people say that Ren's said that it took some damage in that moment).
It was a 1-take, according to Luke, the camera guy.
@@PoliticallyPink Luke confirmed in the comments section in Joe E Sparks' reaction to the video that there's a cut near the end. His confirmation is a reply to someone who's replying to his (Luke's) initial comment under the video.
You can see evidence of it easily once you know - at one point while Ren is dragging the kidnapping victim from the dumpster to the back of the car, the interior of their BMW car "gets in the way" of the shot.
Before the shot is "interrupted" by the body of their BMW, the closest car parked in front of the BMW is a black car.
When the shot "clears" their BMW, a white car is now parked in front of the BMW, because the take they decided to go with for the end of the video was shot the next day or something. There is not enough time for a car to have approached at slow enough speed to pull in and parallel park, in the few seconds that the BMW interrupts the shot.
I'm not entirely certain why Luke answered questions the way he did initially, leaving the clear impression for everyone (myself included, until the continuity error of the white car was pointed out) that Murderer was all 1 take. I haven't gone back to re-watch everything he said to figure out if what he said was just put in a way that left it open to people to think it was all 1 shot or what (I tend to not want to jump to accusations that someone was lying, especially about something that's easily proven false - in this case by the magical appearance of the white car - when it's also just as possible that the way they said something could be interpreted in different ways by people).
Ren also apparently confirmed in a live Twitch stream that it was 2 takes. I wasn't "there" to see that convo first hand, but people who were there say he did, anyway.
Watched a lot of Ren now and there are is always more to his songs than any one person can pick up.
Others pointed out lots of things I never noticed, i.e. that both the kids take after their parents (jenny quiet, screech off the rails) and if you listen to dates they all died at the same age. There are others that I can't remember now (his songs are like a great film, you notice something new when you watch it the second time, and third times)
As for the production, Ren does it all in one take (well multiple takes and picks the best one) and uses the setting to add to the vocals (notice how he changes when he moves from inside to outside using the building for the reverb/echo etc).
In his interview with charismatic voice he talked about how it takes forever to get the sound right. He uses a lapel mic which means the recording is a mess so he spends a lot of time fixing it (i.e. when he turns his head or the mic picks up other noises).
I don't think you can call Ren just a musician/storyteller/singer/videographer/producer. Really he is an artist and those are just the tools he uses. We don't get that many true artists come around in our lifetime.
I think it's the lack of money that makes you more resourceful and creative.

There is a live '3d' version of Hi Ren and of Jenny & Screech on YT on his channel, as well as the 'instagram stories' that were the promotionals for each song.
He also has done some acoustic versions of several of his video/songs - Genesis, Murderer and Animal Flow, Blind eyed (ft angry car park attendant).
Simple lapel microscope. Check out the gate clattering in Jenny's tale and the change of audio in the different space in violet's tale. Each tale is a one take, and the budget was a shoestring. They did get in trouble with the neighbours for screech's tale, and there is a live version with fans for the tales on his channel.
The really incredible thing about his story-telling, is not only his ability, but his patterning and TRUTH to it all. Anyone who has studied things like sexual abuse and violence, knows that it's often a generational problem. Money can exacerbate problems, but they do not CAUSE the problem as the abuse crosses economics. People who have lived with this knows it's insidiousness and how it carries through. His genius is beyond being able to tell a tale brilliantly in song, or visually. He does it not only simply. He does it TRUTHFULLY. That is so powerful.
The other things I would note, is that As much as Ren will make fluid and mix and match all kinds of times and genres and tempos of music, his words and concepts are so layered and cyclic (perhaps I should call it a sick lick, because it's a suiting homage). If you look at the design, say of a seashell and see the Golden Mean, one could go crazy or try to capture that design. I think he dances on that edge. Effin' Brilliant...

Reggae/Ska/Garage has been a huge influence here in England my whole life. (I'm an 80s kid)
This video is completely live and in one take. If you listen to it again and pay attention to background noise you will hear it. You can hear his starter jacket rustling and the garage door when he leans on it. In Violet's tale you can hear the sound change as he moves from room to room and in the stairwell

Not only can you hear the reverb change when he walks around, but when Ren first goes outside during Violet's Tale, you can hear the seagulls nearby. (Brighton, where Ren lives and shot the video, is a coastal town with beach and birds). "Murderer" (Definitely reggae influenced) is a one-take video, but not live audio. Ren switches it up. Money Game 3 has one cut in the video (because of the rain part and limited time to use the barn), not sure if the audio is live - seems like it, but who knows. All the videos are 🔥 regardless.

The guitar is his favourite instrument but... he plays about a dozen instruments well. Half of them RIDICULOUSLY well! All self-taught! :) I could write a ridiculously long list of his seemingly endless top notch talents. If you're unsure who did... the answer is probably Ren. The one notable exception being the cinematography. Ren let one of his friends do that and Sam's become really good at it!
Two things to know about Ren...
One, he's really sick, incurably so and has been for half his life. Meaning he's been unable to tour, or do any proper promotion. He's in near constant pain and has a whole host of very serious medical conditions.
Two, he's fully independent! No label, no financial backing, no PR machine, no management. Every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren. He turned them all down! A life of pain and suffering has nevertheless enabled him to understand his priorities extremely well and wealth and fame are well down that list. He's cultivated a very positive and loyal community online, who have all recognised that he's not only a singular talent but that he's an exceptional human being too, though not afraid to show his flaws and cheeky, with a wicked sense of humour! :)
tl/dr - Ren's great! Ren's music is great! Definitely react to more Ren! You won't be disappointed. You will be surprised, constantly! :)
