    The trilogy is all about Paddington, as mentioned in Violets tale. Yes it was shot in Brighton. These songs did not come out together. Jenny and Scretch came about a year apart and Violets Tale was a few years later, I remember waiting for them. Remember the Hospital in Violets Tale, See as you travel the Ren journey where else the building was used.

    Out of all reactions I've watched to this video, you are the only ones to mention the police officer as a victim so I applaud you for that.
    The tales of Jenny and Screech were inspired by true events that Ren saw in a newspaper, he added Violets tale some time later.

    Excellent reaction to a masterpiece! I've teared up to a few songs over the decades (I'm old, lol), but only Ren has done it repeatedly, with several songs, including the Trilogy, Suic*de, For Joe, Swan Song (by The Big Push), and his latest release, Lost All Faith. And I have to say that Ren doesn't "manipulate" the tears out of you; the tears come because what Ren talks about is REAL. He's a very raw artist who is willing to bare himself and be vulnerable, and that's pretty rare. (On the flip side, he can also make you laugh--and it's pretty rare to be able to do both well.)

      It hit me today that that news story could have been just one more street-life tragedy that normally would have been swept under the rug. Instead it has--in a sense--become a story that's being heard around the world.

      The true part was a young teenager stabbed and killed a girl who was a similar age. The line "such a shame" was how our fucked up media reported it! It was buried somewhere in the news instead of it being reported on as a horrifying crime, it was treated as just another murder on the streets of our capital city.....

  • @DonNicolson
    @DonNicolson 9 месяцев назад +8

    Awesome reaction guys, ok deep breath so it was based on a story Ren read about a prostitute that had been killed by a young man a youth. The rest is all Ren now he wrote the first two videos and the was a year where his fans had discussed and debated who the 3rd part of the trilogy would be about some thought it was Richard the officer that the final part would be about so Ren decided to mess with everyone and created violets tale, two zero zero five is the year. Btw it seems that Jenny was a 14 yr old prostitute as she had walked that road 1000 times before and also wearing high heels late at night that’s at least the fans take to some degree. I’m blown away by that level of songwriting to be honest it’s unreal to even think of that. Ren is a genius fact

      She wasn't a prostitute, she wasn't 14, they weren't related, the names are different obviously and the boy was arrested, not shot. So even the scant few details that were in the rl story were changed radically by Ren and all the rest is entirely from Ren's imagination. I know I sound pedantic but people keep spreading the falsehood that the first 2 tales are basically true, when in fact, the tales are 99%+ a creation of Ren, not real life events.

    As for your question - has there been any other song that has "pricked" your emotions -- well as a 67 year old I can think of a few but the first one that comes to mind is "The two island swans" by a band called Mountain.
    It has been become a classic in the "Irish folk scene" but was originally written by the band's bassist (Felix Pappalardi), who was also a Beatles producer.
    It was a 70's rock classic, but with major feeling.

    Its worth adding a little bit of context to this. In the same way that Violet chose an abuser as a partner, its likely that Violets mother probably did the same, and the alcohol abuse is how she has taught herself to numb the emotional pain, both from what she experienced and what she knows Violet is being subjected to. Next its worth pointing out that in the UK, its highly unlikely for Violet to be given a council house at 16 - unless she was already pregnant - and bear in mind that she met Stevie AFTER she had moved out, so Jenny and Screech's father is likely Violets father not Stevie. Finally now that you know they were twins, you now know that Jenny was also 14, walking the streets like she had "a thousand times" - i suspect the care system failed both of these kids, not just Screech. Loved the reaction ❤

    • @loud_wolves

      Wow this just blew my mind 😮 I didn't even think of violets dad possibly being the father and not Stevie. This is a head spinner! But agree they all were failed. Thanks for the comment 😊

    • @AndrewJonesMcGuire
      @AndrewJonesMcGuire 9 месяцев назад

      @@loud_wolves given that Violet's character is known for "always being silent", she's not really going to have much opportunity to be "a little liar". So Stevie likely knew that the baby was not his, which is why he kept using that line. Stevie basically saw someone he could control while having stuff bought for him and a roof over his head, without needing to do much in return.

    Ren's fans call this style of his music Bardcore & Here's ((My Understanding)) of how the origin story of this trilogy came to be & the messages, that ((I believe)) Ren intended, that are within. 🤩😁🤯.
    This wasn't originally a trilogy story. Ren read a small article about a 14 yr old boy killing a young prostitute with a knife in an attempted robbery. Knife crime had been skyrocketing in London at this time. Later that same evening the boy had been shot and killed by the armed police division that responded to a sighting of a possible suspect for a girl found murdered in Sussex Gardens area in Paddington - one of the capital's most notorious red light districts. It disturbed him, so he set out to write a commentary not just on senseless violence, but on how desensitized we've become to it. The words he ends both Jenny and Screech's Tales with is "It's such a Shame" we say these words all to often and just move on without a second thought. The the lead inspector was quoted saying " So Young, It's such a shame".
    Violets Tale was written over 2 years later adding another layer of commentary by Ren. He wanted us to consider not only generational violence but to make us look at all angles of society that we turn a blind eye to. Both characters are born out of violence on that cruel night of Violets beating and then both killed with brutal violence in the same night 14yrs later. Also, his lyrics have even more meaning when you read in between the lines. For example he doesn't say what Jenny was doing or why she wanted to escape from this place & life, or why Screech thought she was older saying at Patrick's door "I left this lady lying on the floor". Could that be because the way she's dressed & her heavy makeup? Also why was a 14yr old girl out so late in the dead of night walking alone in a sketchy area, wearing high heeled shoes, walking down a street that "she's walked it a thousand times before"? Everything points to Jenny being an underage prostitute, showing us what Ren writes has reason & is made to make us think. There's no fat on the bone, every word is weighed & has meaning.
    Interesting how Jenny has the same traits as her mother Violet, quiet, voiceless, and timid. Whereas Screech mirrors his father Stevie (the Prick boyfriend) in every way, Loud, obnoxious, and easily provoked to violence. They didn't know one another and had never met their biological parents. What made these kids so much like their parents? Was it simply Nature, inherited traits due to their genetic make-up OR Nurture, being brought up in the broken governmental system filled with, mistreated & in many cases, abused children, shuffled from one foster home to another ? He organically takes us on this journey, leaving us to think shouldn't we be doing better in this so called "advanced, wealthy, 1st world society.
    I'm loving your reactions. You both are awesome, Cheers 🥂

      Ok. I just did. Crazy stuff how he pretended to get mugged and played the role of screech. It's actually brilliant the depths he went to and show everyone how screech lived his life. Bringing the characters to life from the song. People got mad when he grabbed his girlfriend. Just acting of course but they thought it was real. Fake robbed a Tesco LOL. It's freaking brilliant

    The way the two of you described what Screech was thinking and doing (after Screech's Tale) just shows how completely engrossed you were. It also shows just how good a storyteller Ren is! I LOVED your discussion and 'analysis.' Ready to watch you get slayed by Violet's tale... I knew you would be mind-blown. You two seem to have a really close connection with each other, and you also are in tune with the music and lyrics. Great reaction! Love the tats!

      Thanks. Still to this day this song hits so hard. Never ever thought I could get chills from a song. Thanks for the positive comment and my tribal tat is actually an entire body piece. Took a lot of sessions LOL. Collarbone was a beach SMH

    The story telling is phenomenal, I never thought I could be dragged so deeply into a story performance and wonder how it's even achieved. He is the bard. Tapping into something deep and primal. I haven't quite heard anything like this, but it's coloured by my overall opinion of Ren's skill

    I heard this trilogy a gazillion times and I still get the chills at the beginning of Violet's Tale when he starts to sing: the guitar, his voice and the melody are sooo beautifully haunting -- like foreshadowing the horror we're about to hear.

    It wasn't based on a true story. Ren was inspired by a newspaper headline of a teen stabbing a woman during a mugging and then being chased down and shot by the police. The three songs came out a year or two apart from each other as well. So Ren was cooking this for awhile.

    It’s very loosely based on true stories but when I say very loosely, it really is very loosely, definitely not to the degree people are claiming it is and those who are claiming it is are doing Ren and his genius a huge disservice

    If you haven't reacted yet to NF "STORY", I strongly suggest you to if you want emotions. You won't be dissapointed with his storytelling. I've yet to stumble on a bad track. I don't think he has the talent for that.😉 He's a life changing artist or at least he is for me and many others.

    The only song I ever felt was as dark in it's storytelling, maybe worse, was Immortal Technique's "Dance With the Devil". You def can't yt react, it's far too dark, it would def get struck down, but go listen on your own, if ya haven't heard it. It's f*cked up, so tragic.

  • @stubyles1654
    @stubyles1654 9 месяцев назад

    No the whole story is not true.....the part about a 14 year old boy killing a prostitute with a knife is true and the part where Ren sings "It's such a shame" is a sentence that was written in the article that Ren saw about it all. People have tried to claim that jenny was the prostitute but it's not the case at all if you listen to the lyrics carefully.

    Ren mentioned he was inspired by news article about a young prositute knifed to death by a young gangbanger. The whole storyline is about the nature of generationl violence. What folks never comment about was Jenny was walking late at night looking for a place to sleep, but she was wearing makeup (rosy cheeks) and wearing high heel shoes. What should we read into that?

    • @loud_wolves
      @loud_wolves  9 месяцев назад

      That part of the story went over my head. When I heard it I'm thinking she's an adult walking home from work. Now I know she was a you street worker (obviously) same age as screech. I was thinking rosy cheeks might of just been a reaction to robbery or maybe the weather being cold. Being a parent it wouldn't cross my mind at first for it to be what it is. Crazy stuff happening in this world and it's just a shame these kids were failed horribly.
