  • How To Train Your Dragon may be my favourite animated movie of all time and we still have 2 movies left to watch in the trilogy!!! I hope you enjoy my reaction and perspectives on the film. Let me know in the comments what your favourite Dreamwork's film is and whether you'd like me to watch other animated films I've already seen.

    Cinema therapy broke down the movie that Astrid is fully supportive of Hiccup, that she went with what he liked becsuse thst is exactly how a healthy relationship should be. So when she goes "just to protect your pet dragon?" and he agrees, she just says "ok" because she knows it is important to him, thereby it is important to her now too. And that is besutiful.😊

    Toothless is part of the Strike Class of Dragon, which is generally considered more intelligent than most other dragons. Although I wouldn't necessarily say that was why it was harder for Hiccup to build trust with Toothless. Toothless was just the first dragon Hiccup tried with, so when he befriended other dragons he knew what to do already.

    • @thecocoacouch
      @thecocoacouch  Год назад +15

      I think I’ve come to think that it’s probably a few things including both of those. However I doubt a gronkle would dive into a blade of grass hiccup holds out just because he has better knowledge yah know? Definitely an intelligence difference there lol

    • @rdevries3852
      @rdevries3852 Год назад +15

      Also probably quite significantly, Toothless was trapped and _injured_ when Hiccup first met him. The fact that he was already in a compromised and vulnerable position would not have made Toothless particularly inclined to extend trust to anyone.

    • @thecocoacouch
      @thecocoacouch  Год назад +16

      @@rdevries3852 Yeah for sure, I found it interesting though that the Light-Fury in the third movie which is like a female version of the night-fury is just as cautious. It's very instinctual that they are careful. Also on top of that, they highlight his extreme intelligence with the drawing and creativity that toothless has compared to other dragons. Their tactic as well in battle is to stay hidden and strike swiftly to stay safe.

    I remember seeing this movie in theaters for the first time when I was 26. When it was revealed that Hiccup was an amputee, I remember being shocked at first because no mainstream animated movies aimed at families had done that before (at least any that I could think of). Then immediately following the shock, I got a little emotional just because I couldn't _imagine_ what Hiccup was going to do for disabled children - especially the children with prosthetics - to be able to say "he's like me". I can't imagine the impact he's had on Gen Z and beyond in that regard. Anyone who grew up on these movies, really.
    Then the fact that it's never a big deal again from that point on makes it even better. It's not focused or harped on, he's not treated differently, it's just part of who he is. And he adapts to the point that you have to _remind_ yourself that he has a prosthetic foot, showing kids that just because their body may be different it doesn't mean it has to stop them from being able to live like everyone else and be seen for who they are instead of only their disability.
    I know it seems overly sappy but I've always been really big on diversity of all kinds in children's media because there's just so much value in kids being able to see themselves in the media that they consume while growing up.

      @jeremymcginge9768 4 месяца назад +1

      I disagree, dragon fire does hurt other dragons it's simply that their dragon hide is essentially resistant to the extremely hot temperatures and this is why their hide can be used as a shield against their fire. I mean they're dragons, they breathe fire lol so of course their hide will be super strong and also very resistant to the heat but they still possess nerves and can feel things so it still hurts when another dragon hits them with their fire it just doesn't burn them to pieces.

    10:27 Fun Fact: there are at LEAST three different TV series of the How To Train Your Dragon (fandom calls it "HTTYD") in case you were wondering and they are called "Defenders of Berk," "Riders of Berk," and "Race to the Edge" (the first two i can't remember the order exactly). The three different series take also take place before the second movie as well.
    13:12 The hesitation you see in this scene was originally a glitch in the animation process but the producers liked it so much they kept it in.
    Also, if your wondering, all the dragons fire breath look different because of the element used for the flame. For example; the Deadly Nadder (Astrid's dragon) uses a magnesium based flame, the Gronckle (Fishlegs' dragon) uses molten lava, the Monstrous Nightmare (Snoutlot's dragon) uses a kerosene gel (it's in their sweat to that causes their body to catch fire), the Hideous Zippleback (the twins' dragon) uses Ammonium nitrate mixed with anhydrous hydrazine, and lastly Toothless uses a plasma based flame for his fire.
    Sorry this was long to read, hope you all have a good day.

    The thing about Stoick that makes him so hard to hate sometimes is the moment of realization of what he just said after the fight with Hiccup. Stoick loves his son a lot and since he's all he has left from Valka he's very dear to Stoick, but with how different they are he finds it hard to understand his son. Especially since Stoick is Chief it means he's always busy looking after the village and it's people who he deeply cares about. I've heard some people say things along the lines of “How could you like Stoick he's so arrogant and rude to Hiccup” and what I say to that is… Stoick is arrogant because he's a Viking he was raised that way and it's an issue just like Hiccup says at the beginning of the movie that EVERYONE has! Stoick through the TV shows also grows much closer to Hiccup and they understand each other a lot more, bonding like a true father and son should. There's a lot of character development that isn't shown in these movies and it makes me upset when people base the characters only off the movies and not the CANON SHOWS TOO!! People also say things like Stoick doesn't care for his son when he fought a whole dragon with no weapons to save him! He could have just let him die when Hiccup was being chased but he went to protect his son, and when you think about it in the eyes of the chief would you fight a dragon without any weapons just to save a single person or would you rather leave that single person to die and instead make sure you keep these dragons you have captured and kill them so there's fewer dragons to fight? Normal chiefs would say “Clearly I'll let the kid die” but Stoick said no, so if he didn't care about his son why would he choose to save him when no one in the village would have judged him for it as no one likes Hiccup. But ya. Anyway, that's my rant.

      Well beekeeping has been dated back to over 10,000 years. It’s the knowledge of their being a “Queen Bee” that was only confirmed around 17th or 18th century. It doesn’t take very long for even primitive cultures to discover bees and honey and then eventually “keep” them but finding out there is a single bee that controls the rest of them was mostly undiscovered. It’s fine it’s a fictional film so who cares but I doubt if it was based in reality that a small island of Vikings figured that out on their own centuries before it became common knowledge.

      I feel kinda neutral about it. Disappointed we don’t get a unique intro but apparently before each movie the intro will be slightly different each time with different characters given the spotlight so that’s cool.

    Hiccup shot and maimed Toothless. of course it took him longer to earn his trust

    • @thecocoacouch
      @thecocoacouch  Месяц назад

      Yet all the other dragons immediately trusted the children and then the whole village who for so long were literally murdering their fellow dragons on a regular basis. I think what you say is certainly a part of it but it still doesn’t explain why the other dragons were so trusting when toothless wasn’t. I think it has more to do with his emotional intelligence and you also see them at their bond is much deeper than the other dragons relationships with their Vikings.

    • @pandaluna0
      @pandaluna0 Месяц назад

      @@thecocoacouch oh, no, certainly. I'm not saying that Toothless isn't also intelligent enough to doubt and distrust more than others. he's one of the smartest dragons. it makes sense. but my opinion is that his main distrust toward Hiccup came from, you know, the fact that Hiccup shot him down and prevented him from flying on his own.
      anyway, your videos are really nice. I'm watching them now to pass the time. thanks! hope you have a nice day😊
