I love all of Mr. Follet’s books. Never was no exception. It became easy and frightening to see how the end developed.

What a showman. I enjoyed the audio book as I drove up and down to work weekly. After chapter 20 I had to keep listening at night before bed too as the suspense builds continuously.

Sir, I just wanted to thank you for your work. It helped me through the most difficult time of my life with numerous stories so emotional they prevented me from using my unwanted free time making bad decisions. All respect

I’m sure you hate gushing fan comments so I won’t leave one. I’ll simply say that you are probably consistently the best author I have ever read and I am greatly looking forward to reading your latest offering. Keep up the great work.

I just finished reading the book, and I’ll say this: I was well aware of the criticism, particularly around the issue of the just relentless virtue signaling. I went on buying the book anyway, thinking “Naa, it’ll be fine”.
BOY I was wrong ! This is, by far, not only the WORST but also the DUMBEST book I have read in many years.
    -On the plot:
We are presented with at least two storylines that, independently, go on…and on….and on…to finally end up NOWHERE ! When I reached the end of the book I suddenly realized both storylines stopped furthering the plot around page 200. This is, plain and simple, bad storytelling.
    -On the dialogue:
A:"You are loved, you know that"
    B:"I like to be reminded"
A: "Now you have made me wet."
    : |
(real) People just DO NOT talk like that, Ken !! ... ever ... but specially if a nuclear war is imminent (by the way, it literally was! By then, they where already in DEFCON 2)
    -On the characters:
Every conservative is dumb and/or evil, every liberal is virtuous and well-intended. All of them, regardless of political affiliation, are utterly cartoonish.
    -On the technical:
Let me set the stage: Two character, both Intelligence officers (therefore, presumably, well versed in military matters) currently in Chad (country that does NOT have ANY direct relation with the larger conflict whatsoever) learned in the news that a nuclear attack has happened in some country in East Asia.
One of them says: “It's nuclear war”...
The other one somberly proclaims: “This could be our final day on earth”.
At that point, I couldn’t help but laughing my ass off.
ANY person with even rudimentary understanding on how nuclear weapons work would immediately know how plain dumb the statement is.
First: Why ON EARTH China, North Korea or the US would target Chad. That's NOT how nuclear warfare works ! XD
Second: Even if nuclear war had erupted, it would be restricted to the geographical location of the countries involved.
It is a nuclear exchange…not the Chicxulub Meteor, for crying out loud!
-On the, lacking a better term, “internal coherence” (hard to believe it is K.Follet we are talking about here, but bear with me):
At some point, some faction decides to bomb a military camp located in an island. An Admiral makes a comment along the lines of: “we will use two planes…one will drop the bombs, the other will carry the cameras to film the attack”. Why a single plane cannot carry both the bombs AND a camera pod, and the other one act as a figther cover, is beyond me...but I digress.
Exactly one page later, with the airplanes in flight, the narrator says: “...and the attention turned back to the VIDEO FOOTAGE FROM THE DRONE. The picture showed the (...) sailors in their camp"
    Wait…WHAT?
I mean, to send two aircraft makes sense from the tactical point of view, but…why you make one character EXPLICITLY say that the purpose of the second plane is to carry cameras to see the action if you already have a drone circling the target !
    And, believe me, I could go on…and on…and on…
So, no, man…I cannot possibly disagree more with you review.
The novel is so dumb and poorly researched, so amateurly written, so filled with utterly cartoonish characters and cringy dialogue, I suspect K.Follet didn't really wrote it.
Either someone is ghost-writting for him...or he just "lost it".
PS 1: If you haven’t read it, PLEASE DO NOT take my word. Grab the book (preferably from a library, or borrowed ¬¬) read it FULL and see for yourself.
PS 2: I returned it, and asked my money back. It is THAT bad.

I am with you 1000%, I was floored at what a POS this book was. I made it a 3rd of the way and felt I was thoroughly beaten over the head with woke virtue signaling. The plot if you can call it that was a back drop, seemingly the entire purpose of the book is to check every woke box that exists.

    • @KCMDWannabe

Typical one sided criticism. No attempt at even balancing the good with the bad. So you are just another dumb troll who wasted an hour writing a RUclips comment.
As for the woke themes you have to remember that these are characters voicing these opinions in a world very similar to our own. I’m all for the criticism of overly woke themes but this was not an example of it

@@gontran8638 I would normally agree with you but this book “Never” is a leftist diatribe. It goes away from the main plot to discuss how the pilgrims were actually far worse than the Nazis and how white people suck. It’s hot garbage. Trust me

@@Grande79 I understand your point so let me rephrase mine as I wasn't very clear in my comment : if an author has political opinions that are not aligned with what I think but he makes good books I will still read his books. However if he makes a book that's just a parody of what he used to do in order to push his agenda on his public, I won't read his books. I have not read this one because I heard it's a piece of shit but if he releases a book as good as the pillars of earth, I will certainly read it.

    • @Grande79

@@gontran8638 I agree and I have read Pillars of The Earth and World Without End. I also read the Century trilogy (I think that’s what it’s called). If I was to ignore every director, writer, actor that has a leftist mentality I would have nothing to read or watch🤣. Just don’t use your platform to shove your ideology down my throat. Fiction books and films are to a large degree escapism from the political shit that is everywhere else. So when I realized where this book was going I became disgusted.

@@Grande79 exactly what I think. tbf every ideology shoved down my throat would disgust me, even something I agree with. let us enjoy works of FICTION without having to tell us every two pages that we should do this and that and be ashamed or not because my ancestors did something 2000 years ago... I just want to enjoy a good book with a good plot and well crafted characters, if i wanted to know what I should do I would buy a shitty political book
