    MORE about the book:
From the bestselling author Ken Follett, The Evening and the Morning is a historical epic that will end where The Pillars of the Earth begins.
    A TIME OF CONFLICT
It is 997 CE, the end of the Dark Ages, and England faces attacks from the Welsh in the west and the Vikings in the east. Life is hard, and those with power wield it harshly, bending justice according to their will - often in conflict with the king. With his grip on the country fragile and with no clear rule of law, chaos and bloodshed reign.
    THREE LIVES INTERTWINED
Into this uncertain world three people come to the fore: a young boatbuilder, who dreams of a better future when a devastating Viking raid shatters the life that he and the woman he loves hoped for; a Norman noblewoman, who follows her beloved husband across the sea to a new land only to find her life there shockingly different; and a capable monk at Shiring Abbey, who dreams of transforming his humble abbey into a centre of learning admired throughout Europe.
THE DAWN OF A NEW AGE
Now, with England at the dawn of the Middle Ages, these three people will each come into dangerous conflict with a ruthless bishop, who will do anything to increase his wealth and power, in an epic tale of ambition and rivalry, death and birth, and love and hate.
Thirty years ago we were introduced to Kingsbridge in The Pillars of the Earth, and now in this masterful prequel international bestseller Ken Follett will take us on a journey into a rich past, which will end where his masterpiece begins.

I am Arpa Ghosh from India. I have read the series in its entirety and I am overwhelmed. What impressed me was the amalgamation of history, human interest stories and the raciness of the thriller mode. The women are magnificent. Their enterprise, initiative and sheer courage, all made so plausible by the realistic narration and the lethal logic of the thriller, make a bygone age come alive. Thank you Mr Follett for using your substantial gift 🎁 for writing and research so judiciously.

I love this book, I’m over 700 pages in and the story has really drawn me in. Ken you are an amazing writer. I actually read Pillars of the Earth about 20 years ago and I was completely delighted with it. Thank you Ken for your marvelous creation. I will re-read Pillars of the Earth and all the other books in the Knights Bridge collection 👏🥰

I am a Brazilian 🇧🇷 , living in Santiago, Chile 🇨🇱. This is really a great book (almost as good as Pillars of the Earth, my favorite book ever!) Was very nice to see Kingsbridge slowly grow and grow. The only problem is that I am feeling a little bit orphan, now that I finish the book. Maybe it is time to read the Pillars again! Saludos from the south of the world 🌎 ;-)

I went another route with this one. I just signed myself up on Audible and my first purchase was ...... you guessed it!!! Every single time I get into my car, the very first thing I do is turn this audio book on. I read alot, and I find myself being very critical of authors who don't generate an emotional response in me, but with Ken Follett, I know in advance that I will go through an "emotional roller coaster" .... sometimes happy moments, but mostly just gut-wrenching sorrow. Such a reliable author who always finds a way to portray real characters while at the same time keeping you so involved in a wonderful story. Winston might be the worst one yet!!!

From Canada. I read pillars of the earth a few years ago and I recently bought the Evening and the Morning. You delve into characters from an almost alien and unrelatable time yet bring them to life like I'm reading about my fellow contemporaries or myself.. I guess we don't change that much regardless of when we exist. When I read your fictional books I learn facts from the past like I would when reading Arthurian or canterbury tales. You cited jean gimpel firstly in your resources for pillars of the earth! You're amazing I thank you for your writing. I really need to buy your book about notre Dame. You are my second favourite writer of all time after Tolkien himself. Thank you.

I felt the same 🤣 I’ve read your kingsbridge series and was immediately transported and invested in them. Couldn’t put any of them down! I wasn’t able to read a story for years prior and actually I haven’t been able to read one since. (Too many atrocities going on here in ‘real’ life) Adore your books and swear I’ve been in your company at some point?! I’m from Salisbury and was taken by surprise to be reading about it. World without end was the first book that I brought as I couldn’t walk out of the shop without it, but I did read pillars first. Never disappointed. (Except I never want the book to end!)

I had the Evening and the Morning on order at my favorite bookstore. As soon as it was released, I ran and purchased it! What a page turner! I just finished it. I cried in the end when Ragna finds happiness. The book is just as brilliant as The Pillars of the Earth. You are so talented in making the reader live the story!
Thank you so much. I devour your books.
I am presently reading the Trilogy "Fall of Giants" I am devouring this series also. You have enriched my life more than I can express!
The Kingsbridge Series was the BEST EVER!

Just finished the book. Excellent amazing/ engaging story telling. I read the Pillars of the Earth 30 plus years ago, also thoroughly engaging. Just a comment: I feel the ending would have been more impactful if Alain was found out to be Edgar's son ( the two sexual encounters could have been so close as to not know). Ragna would likely be even more adamant (more doubt/tension) over having her baby taken if there was a chance it was Edgar"s; and a real resemblance to Edgar wasn't made til Edgar appears at the end when Alain is three. You likely thought of this, curious why you chose not to implement it. A bit too trite perhaps.

    • @curtin9
      @curtin9 10 месяцев назад

But then Edgar wouldn't have been the "other option" instead of staying with the baby. Edgar would have stayed, they all would have stayed.

I'm searching for an _honest_ review of The Armor of Light before I buy it. I thought Evening And The Morning was much better than Columns, which is basically like a Dan Brown Tom Clancy type novel, it wasn't very good. And Never was awful. Ken, in my opinion, ruined what could've been a wonderful Century Trilogy with books 2 & 3. Especially book 3, it was just partisan folly. So I'm waiting before I buy another Follett book and he's my favorite author. Pillars is the best book I've ever read, but with Ken's later novels he's just gotten too political, it became more about his own politics than the story. This is why interest for his newer works is WAY down. I even question if it's really Ken even writing this stuff, like Never, but I'm sure it is.
