    Late to the game here, but I was very unhappy with my THR10 sounds, and was considering buying a Boss Katana. You saved me a LOT of trouble with this, man! Thank you!

    I just tried this and I am blown away - this makes it sound EVEN BETTER than it did before! This amp is incredible, the best I've ever used. You can craft any tone you please out of the THR10 - clean, crunch, heavy distortion, fuzz... The editor gives access to a nice plate reverb with up to 20s of reverb time. It's incredible this it's as affordable as it is.

    I really like that delay filter trick! I've had a lot of time on my hands this year, and lately I've been going back to the THR10, and for the first time since I bought it (2011, I think?), I've spent time experimenting in the editor. Three ideas I've been very pleased with:
    1) dialling in massive ambient reverb with the Hall set to almost max, adding a long 124ms delay to that, and then combining it with a very narrow bandpass delay for a tape-like echo at around 620ms, and very low volume.
    2) getting some drip out of the otherwise "meh" spring reverb by eq'ing a faster-than-slap-back echo to sound like drip (I have a real spring reverb to compare it with) 3) setting the phaser rate to zero and then dialing in a darker or just different sound with the other controls. A bit glitchy though; sometimes it will still slowly sweep. I also think the compressor sounds really good!
    If the THR just had an fx loop and switching, I wouldn't ever need another amp. Although I guess the aux in sort of is an fx loop.
    Just for the record: I do think the stock sounds are pretty amazing already, especially if on my Yamaha PacificaI I roll down the volume two notches and the tone pot three to four notches

    • @Herfinnur
      @Herfinnur 3 года назад

      I know it's been many years, and you probably have moved on to newer things, but here are my phaser settings: Speed: 0.0 Manual: 7.0 Depth 0.4 Feedback 0.6 . I only have a Yamaha Pacifica 112 LH to test this on, but hopefully it's a good amp modification so it doesn't matter what guitar you're on. I've tried the delay eq trick but decided I like this more

  • @Santidie86

    man you are a genious! i thought you were applying those filters on a secuencer like cubase. but no, you were applying those directly from the delay! thats a huge mind!
    thanks for the tip! huge sound!

  • @mauriziodelucia
    @mauriziodelucia 4 года назад +1

    You man are a genious.
    I've tried and I can no more hear this amp without this trick, you're a f*****g genious thank you very much!
    ADDED five hours later (spent playing with new settings): I've the THR10X and it works like a charm, perfect tone for AC/DC; Zakk, Eddie, it gives me the "fat tone" that the amp doesn't has with "standard" settings.
    Thank you again sir.

    John Dale: This is CRAZY good stuff! I have the THR10C, and I applied your delay technique to the Tape Echo effect, and got the same results--the amp sound is thicker, fuller, and way more bluesy, especially on the Vox (Brit Blues) and Blues Jr. (US Blues) amps! Thanks! Good luck on the tour!

      Hi! I also own a THR10C, how did you do this in the THRC dashboard? The tape echo doesn't have the Low and Hi cut Filters to tweak with.

    Just wondering, why is the Feedback parameter turned up on some, while it is at zero for other sounds in this demo? Is the feedback needed to make the sound you are aiming for?

    Can I disable the cabinet with the Yamaha THR series? I say that 'cause for example: I have a tube and a JFET preamp (and I can run the preamp in the "FLAT" mode; right?) and I want to use it with the laptop for trying some IR's and poweramp simulations to play through the speakers or even sometimes to "panning ideas" for recordings, this will be interesting for me... panning the tube preamp playing directly through the speakers and power wattage for fun and via USB recoring one side with the digitals emulations of yamaha in otherside and get unique big sounds, or even trying the filters with my preamp.
    I think I can combine many possibilities with this unit.
    Thanks

    Many thanks - I was on the right track re the double track delay part. Didn't think of chorus or the other effects though - good work:)
    Interestingly though as all the effects/delay are post-amp (apart from compressor), what settings were you using on your previous video to get what sounded like a bit more "crunch" when kicked in (if it isn't Dumble Door as in this vid!)?

  • @ricoxufr
    @ricoxufr 7 лет назад +2

    Great I now apply your trick on all my thr10x and it became a monster !!
    It there only problem to put a delay pedal in front of the thr ?

    • @PewPewDevices
      @PewPewDevices  7 лет назад +1

      ricoxufr that's usually an issue. if you are using an analogue delay it is quite possible, but it's usually best to run delay after the THR.

    • @PewPewDevices

      Josh, I think that one is in there. if not, just copy the settings you see. There is no additional processing, its just the THR DI.

      John - thanks for the quick reply... I didn't see it in there. I got your "THR10 John Dale" library from the patch site. Also, you just teased us with clicking on YJM's patch, or else I would have copied the settings... You hovered over YJM at the 2:30 mark and then switch Eddy VanHagar at the last second :-)

    I am sorry if this has been covered somewhere, but I am trying to figure out how to easily change tones and amp styles with some sort of app setup with the Yamaha THR10. I love the spark for ease of use, but the hardware and sound of the Yamaha wants me to figure this out and return the Spark. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to learn how to do this well on the Yamaha? I primarily use a mac and an iPad if that matters. Thanks everyone!

    Thanks for this video. It improved the sound of my THR 10 enormously. BUT these settings in the software are ONLY saved in the computer, NOT in the amp itself. That means that you can get and store in the software a great sound adjusting Low cut, High cut, etc, but these settings are NOT stored in the amp itself (and you cannot adjust all these with the buttons on the amp directly), and when you disconnect the amp from the computer you are left only with the factory presets again which are, except maybe for the clean sound, not satisfying enough. I am using it only for recording. If you want an amp that you can take anywhere and play without having your laptop next to it.......there are better and cheaper ones, like the marshall code series, or Katana, or Mustang series, etc. Honestly, I am using it for recording thanks to your video. The software connects also directly with a music program like from Magix Musik Maker or Cubase for good recordings.

    • @PewPewDevices
      @PewPewDevices  6 лет назад

      Ibiza Rose Hi, just store them in any of the 5 patch locations on the amp (hold one of the patch buttons down for a few seconds).

    • @IbizaRose
      @IbizaRose 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks John, yes you're right, they can be stored by holding down one of the corresponding buttons for like 3 sec. Then it can be used for live performances, either with a microphone or through the headphone output directly into a mixer. Too bad that it does not have a foot pedal to change channels (one would expect that at this price though). Thanks again.

    • @PewPewDevices
      @PewPewDevices  6 лет назад

      Ibiza Rose Try the ApsforAmps THR editor for Android, you can run a footswitch to your mobile via bluetooth to switch patches.

    • @IbizaRose
      @IbizaRose 6 лет назад

      Yes, I tried it, but I have an iPhone and that runs on IOS, the download seems to be only for Android phones. Thank's anyway! Also, there are plenty of sounds already in the library of the Yamaha software, that also can be adapted and changed to personal preferences.
