Fun Fact: In the early days of TF2 people would use the "Sentry Ahead" line to let people know snipers were ahead since it was more useful against snipers than sentries
Not that I don’t doubt this claim, but where did you hear it from? The specific time period where players would have deemed a sniper more worth calling out than a sentry doesn’t really match up. Sniper was never considered a particularly strong class until later into the game’s development where classes became more fleshed out. Early sniper was pretty much balanced simply because many players were playing on crappy hardware.
I do that today while playing. It's a hell of a lot easier than typing out sniper when unable to voice chat and gets the message of a dangerous sightline across easy enough to any player with half a brain.
"Sorry" voicelines ideas; Scout: Oh, my bad! Whoops, sorry fellas! That was my bad! Whoops, my bad! Soldier: Apologies! (assertive and angry sounding) Sorry men. My bad. Sorry about that! Pyro: (whoops) (sorry) (my bad) (whoops sorry) Demo: Ach, that 'ns on me fellas. Aw cripe, sorry mate. Ach, whoops, sorry mate. Ach, whoops, sorry boys. Heavy: SORRY. HEAVY IS SORRY. THAT WAS HEAVY'S BAD. HEAVY FEELS SORRY. Engineer: Sorry pal... Aheh, whoops, sorry buddy! Ah hell, my bad fellas... That one's on me fellas, sorry... Medic: Vhoops, mein bad... Vhoops, sorry! HAHA, vhoops! Es tut mir leid! (thanks @izzy-wt9sr for correcting me) Scheise, mein bad... Sniper: Ooh... my bad... Yikes, sorry for that one guys... Yeesh, that's on me... Eugh, sorry mate... Spy: My condolences. My apologies, gentleman. I am truly sorry. My apologies.
A few ideas for what the classes would say: “Careful!”: Scout: “‘ey, slow down!” Soldier: “Be prepared to fall back, men.” Pyro: some sort sort of muffled “be careful guys!” Demo: “Oi! Watch out ‘fer.. whatever’s out there!” Heavy: “Careful, danger ahead!” Engi: “Hold yer horses there pardner.” Medic: “Vait! I must assist you!” Sniper: “Watch out mate.” Spy: “Now is not the time to rush.” “Ready”: Scout: “Come on, lets go!” Soldier: “I am ready to fall in!” Pyro: muffled “This’ll be fun!” Demo: “Ready to go lads?” Heavy: “I am ready!” Engi: “You prepared?” Medic: “Ready when you are!” Sniper: “Come on mates.” Spy: “Now would be a good time to strike.” “Sorry.”: Scout: “Aw man, I’m sorry.” Soldier: “Oops, too far.” Pyro: some sort of sad sound Demo: “Oh, I’m sorry lad.” Heavy: “Sorry!” Engi: “Aw, I’m sorry man.” Medic: “Verzeihung.” (German for sorry) Sniper: “Aw piss. Sorry mate.” Spy: “Apologies. That was not intended.”
Amendments for what I think would work better Careful: Scout: "ey, slow down over 'ere!" Demo: "May wunna sit this one out lads" With eyelander: "Hold on tight to ye head lads!" Heavy: "Little baby men are dangerous!" Spy: "Now is not ze time for heroics"/"Don't be an idiot" Ready: Scout: Bemusedly "Let's do this!" Demo: "i've got me fight now!" / "I'll be ready when I'm drunk! and I am!" / "[AWAKES] We're gunna do it! The plan! " Medic: "Diagnosis, very Ready." / "Ready, poh I'm quite ready!" Sniper: "Come on you wankers!" Spy: "Now is the time for the killing!" Sorry: Scout: "That was only 99 percent intended"/"No hard feelings buddy?" Soldier: "Sorry soldier" Demo: "It's the beer lad!" [slurred] "I'mm nut the man I ussed to be" Heavy: "Apologies"/"I feel many shame for phat!" Engineer: "Sorry pardner" Spy: "Zat was... a mistake/Miscalculation"
for the 'Sniper Ahead!' and 'Ready?' commands, there are already voicelines used in MvM for similar scenarios (Sniperbots spawning and readying up) that could be easily dropped into regular TF2 with little to no modification.
canonically they make sense as well, considering these are mercs that probably dont say sorry or be careful... altho they would be mighty fine additions
We need a “BEHIND YOU!” voice command in big bold letters because too many people just won’t turn around when there’s danger behind them because they just have no awareness.
same, imagine you watching the guy in front of you die because spy walked up to his back but you can only say there's a spy in the base or that spy's not one of us
The sorry command could also be useful when you accidentally block your teammate’s shots/melee, or when you steal your teammate’s kill on weapons like the Air Strike or most of Demo’s Swords.
It always bugged me that they made voicelines for pointing out sniper bots in MVM but they never used them for a “SNIPER!” voiceline like there is with spy. Would honestly fix a lot of issues.
I was just about to say, the "Sniper" voice command could recycle that set of voicelines from MVM...for the classes that have them. (Seriously, why do only *some* of the classes have more line contexts than others for MVM? Scout doesn't have anything new to say in that mode outside of the Rottenburg (or whatever it's called) map?)
Would be cool if it played automatically upon spotting an übered enemy. TF2 Classic had the right idea by making certain things activate voice lines, such as picking up a Sandvich activating the thanks voice command.
Here's another suggestion: There's a voice command specifically for medics to say their uber is ready, one that, much like the pass time command, does nothing outside of medic. Why not let soldiers use it to indicate a charged banner?
fun fact: L4D2 (and i think L4D1) had voice wheels for the voice commands, and im surprised valve didn't do that for tf2, basically when going z-c, a wheel would appear, then with your cursor you could choose which voiceline to use
Multiplayer fps environment wouldn't work as well with that I think because your cursor is normally tied to the mouse, making it more difficult to move+aim+shoot while using commands
I think they later ported the voice command wheel into CSGO, and many other FPS games have adopted it since Though, that being said, a weird part of me does want them to have an "advanced" voice command option where it pulls up a menu reminiscent of TF2 and it's predecessors. @@nathanfivecoate5848
Voice line commands are so ingrained in my muscle memory I find myself pressing the buttons for them in other games out of instinct, like fuckin' Minecraft LOL I like your suggestions a lot, I've had similar ideas for potential new (and removed) voice commands. I especially like the idea of a "Sorry" or a "Careful," I think those could get the most utility out of them all. Great editing too btw, awesome watch
i've literally dropped items and tools in Minecraft because i'm trying to tell someone 'Thanks!' using voice commands, and my drop item key is set to X. similarly i also often try to taunt in other games by pressing G. guess that starts to happen when you've poured 2,000 hours into one game
There should be little bubbles similar to the call for medic one that people can see when you use voice commands so that they're a lot easier to notice and read for your team
Theres a command to call for health, with its own key (E), but not to say "hey im out of/low on ammo", which is arguably just as valuable as the medic call. Especially since, ive had uber popped while i fired my last shot before the charge.
I have heard of a idea on that medics should be able to see their patient's ammo count, and in Deep Rock Galactic, the dwarves automatically call out when they are out of ammo, where I think another expansion on that concept could be the characters to automatically call out "low on ammo" when below 25/33%
@@oktayyildirim2911 I mean it as less a demand to give ammo, more a thing in the vein of notifying your team that you are low or out of ammo so that they can cover your spot in the frontlines, or decide to Uber someone else to not waste it on someone with no ammo, etc.
It doesn’t matter since players drop ammo when they die. No need to make a specific chat function when the only times you’ll ever run out of ammo is if you’re Spamming.
I will advocate a little for the "Go Left" and "Go Right" commands. As an MvM player, these are VERY useful on Mannhattan and Rottenburg especially. Telling your team when Steel Gauntlets spawn upstairs, or to be careful of the crit soldier bots on wave 2 of Hamlet is such a consistently useful thing. I do think that removing the cancel button is probably a better idea to include more voice lines, since you can close them by pressing the same button again
Maybe what you could do is give the option to personalize the commands and select the ones you want and where, many games do this, especially those with a competitive side
Yeah I saw those in a video game and though they were really neat. I think taking your mouse away from combat might be a bad idea but so is fumbling with your pinky so the option would be nice.
For the extraneous voice lines in need of replacing, I feel like the Cheers and Positive lines could be easily smashed together into the same category, as could the Jeers and Negative ones. I genuinely can't tell the difference between them in terms of intent, since they both seem to fall under the same 'grousing about your team/the current state of the game' category. I also have to say that the 'Move Up!' and 'Go! Go! Go!' commands don't really seem like they need to be separate, either. Especially if a third rallying command like 'Ready!' is added. Move Up! seems to be specifically for Engineers, which your team might not even have any of. It seems somewhat unnecessary. On the other hand, I disagree with the removal of the 'Go Left' and 'Go Right' lines. I haven't needed to use them as much as some of the others, but if you're on a map with a lot of different routes, or you're escorting a Medic or some newie who doesn't know where they're going, it's easy to lead them safely with those commands. A niche use, yeah, but it's also one of the few that's legitimately useful for your teammates, as opposed to basically just being there for flavor like the 'Thanks,' 'Good Job,' and Battle Cry commands. With that being said, perhaps they could be replaced by a 'Follow Me!' command that combines their functions.
I will agree that "Thanks" is mostly useless, however, as a medic player it makes me feel really nice when my heal target thanks me because playing medic is pain.
Cheers/Jeers are usually actual voice lines, Positive/Negative is just laughing and annoyed groaning respectively. I really think Positive/Negative are bigger candidates for being axed since on some classes the lines that play are basically inaudible if there's any sort of background noise.
I use go left/go right a lot in two cities, where its amazing to indicate out of which spawn the bots come for newer players/players who just dont know.
I like the concept of using voice commands for alerting teammates of a Sniper or a stickytraps, advice of been careful, if they are ready and saying sorry. This gaves personality to players in game.
I think a really good voice command idea would be a "Behind you!" or "Go Back!" voice command. There's been countless times where there's been enemies behind my teammates and my teammates are completely oblivious and are still pushing forward, it's especially noticeable if you play Medic for an extended period of time. Would also be a good command to stop people backcapping or ninjaneers.
There should be a "group up with me" voice line. I play a lot of medic and it's frustrating when your teammates distance themselves so you can't overheal them. Having a voice line like this that encourages players to group up and ultimately attack together could work nicely.
I honestly really like Overwatch's radial coms menu. It's quick, easy, visual with icons for each aciton, and you could easily still make the number keys still do something.
The "Ubercharge Ready" command specific to Medic could be a class-sensitive command that changes according to which class you're using. Like it changing to "I'm low on metal!" for Engineer or maybe "I'm going ahead!" for Scout. In addition, I feel like the "I'm low on ammo!" command should have been a staple command since the beginning.
I love voice lines! I remember being a new player and spamming them, but then I got self concious about filling the chat. Later, I saw a youtube video that mentioned masking uber, and figured that'd be a solid excuse to spam them! I really like your ideas, only change I'd make is turning those first 3 into a general "Watch Out" command. People already use the Sentry Ahead voiceline for that, and it works pretty well! Then you'd only have to remove the pass to me command
The help being replaced with pass to me could actually be done by looking at ally with the flag and tapping help, like you do it with calling out spies. It would not interfere with original help at all and will allow you to cram one more command there
The sniper callout one would be the easiest to implement, as there are already all of the classes yelling sniper in MVM. Just adding the ability to call that out independently like calling out a spy would be easy to add.
I actually have my Mouse 4 button bound specifically for the "Sentry ahead!" command and basically use it as the suggested "Careful" command because I've found that whether there's actually a sentry ahead or not, people will be more vigilant of what's ahead if they hear that command.
I always used the sentry ahead for snipers so my team knows not to peek, though it needs a bit more use for others to get it right away, the sticky trap also works. Sorry and ready voices would be great for advanced basic communication
imagine if there was a short video of a few mercs (probably BLU) move foward then stop and say "trap ahead!" with the next scene showing a shack full of floating "premium" stuff with the "Medic!" few second sound effect and then one of the mercs walk towards it as the song continues to play but suddenly cut out when they immediately die from touching the trap. The other players would then schandefure
I think taking notes from voice commands from CS: Source would be interesting. Things like "Follow me" and "Fall back" woul definitely help with coordination.
having to say incoming when i noticed a couple of enemies heading my teams way really needs to be specified. like "an enemy group is heading this way" or "their medic has full uber"
also yea i think ready? should be a voice line. so many times when i had a medic or myself as medic having to say go go go in order for them to go in. but nobody seems to listen to that command :/
Sniper has a voice com for "Incoming" and he fucking whispers it. No one can hear it, not even you, if there's literally any other sound happening around you. Pretty god damn detrimental when you're trying to warn your team of an incoming kritz/Uber.
I think i know what you're talking about, sometimes (for some reason) the voiceline for "incoming" doesn't make a sound, it happened to me. A few times
On the topic of communication, the ability to ping locations or players would also be a neat way to add some flavour. Btw excellent video as always man, great to see you getting more recognition. ♥
Pings? TF2 is at it's core a 12 v 12 game. Pings work great in a game like Apex where you only have 2 other teammates. But in TF2 pings would probably cause more confusion than anything.
I think the best idea would to actually let people rebind/reorganize the existing menus alongside your new additions. People create new vscript menus all the time with servers, can't be that hard to ask the client to make one.
CS:GO has a "Loadout" section of the Inventory where you can swap out certain guns with alternative ones or with skins you have. Something similar could be implemented for voice lines where the user has full control over the order of the voicelines (say you main Medic and having Medic-related voicelines more accessible would make your life a little easier).
in my opinion a simple enemy ahead voice line would be very useful especially if it told you what class it is also changing the hud to circle simler to l4d
I think a "hold your ground" command would be useful aswell, for example to tell your team to prepare for an enemy push / uber or to not scatter and stay together when playing the objective
Words cannot describe how much I need a “Retreat!” command for all the failed pushes I have had to endure. I even have potential voicelines for them. Scout: We better get goin’, chuckleheads! Soldier:Fall back, ladies! Pyro: RMMPH! Engineer: Run for it, go! Heavy: LITTLE MEN HAVE WON! WE CRUSH THEM LATER! Demoman: *Unintelligible Slurring* yeah, get outta ‘dere.. Medic: Raus! Raus or you die! Die! Raus! Choose! Sniper: You all wanna keep yer ‘eads? MOVE! Spy: You have all failed. Want to win another day? Run!
It is possible to increase the amount of voice lines with the 3 two-button combination by going the Stardew route and add voice for pressing the 0, -, and =. They don't do anything by default. Which brings the the amount of voice commands from 26 because C+9 doesn't do anything to 36. Fun fact: there are 10 weapon categories but the 7 to 0 ones go unused despite the code for it existing according to the wiki
I think the "careful" voiceline is already synonymous with "incoming" as a means of giving people a heads up. I would also suggest an "[enemy] 's low" line as a means to tell teammates that an enemy is at low health (kind of like pointing at someone that's a spy), and even if they're not it could encourage pushes (or troll teammates).
fanmade voice direction: Sorry: Scout: Sorry not sorry. Sucks to be you right now! Soldier: I'm sorry (pause) and I apologize. Sorry for that. (after a kill) Sorry for stomping you with these big american boots! Pyro: Sorry! (muffled) Demoman: Ach, that was my fault, lad. Sorry about that, lad. (after a kill) Sorry for killin' ya, I'm drunk! Heavy: Heavy is sorry. I am sorry for you! (after a kill) I will apologize to remaining family. Engineer: Sorry about that, bud. Sorry. (after a kill) Sorry for puttin' that there. *laughs* Medic: My deepest apologies! Sorry! (after a kill, or kill assist) Sorry for your loss! Sniper: Sorry 'bout that, mate. Sorry. (after a kill) Sorry 'bout the mess. Spy: Apologies. (after a kill) Sorry to intrude into your back. Ready: Scout: You ready for this? Ready to go? We doin this? Soldier: Are you ready to put your training in action soldier!! Are you willing to serve your country! Pyro: Are you ready? (muffled) Demoman: Ready for this, lads? Ready to blow this bloody popsicle stand? Heavy: Are you ready! Are you ready to kill! It is time for the killing! Engineer: You boys ready? You ready? Medic: Are you ready?? Ready to move?? Sniper: Clear to go, mate? Ready to go, mate? Spy: Ready to move in? Prepared? Careful: Scout: Yo, watch it! Watch out! Soldier: Halt, men! Tread lightly men, for these are my battlegrounds! Pyro: Careful! (muffled) Demoman: Watch out, lads! Watch it...! Heavy: Be careful. Do not die! Stay safe behind Heavy. Engineer: Watch it, boys! Watch out! Safe travels. Medic: Keep yourselves safe! Stay by me! Do not run into the traffic! Sniper: Watch yourself, mate. Careful, mate. Spy: Danger! Watch yourselves! Sniper Ahead: Scout: Sniper up there! Freakin' Sniper! Soldier: I am pinned down, men! Enemy Sniper up ahead! Rifle shots, men! Pyro: Sniper up there! (muffled) Demoman: Bloody Sniper up there! Don't get shot lads! Heavy: There is Sniper! Sniper ahead! Heavy will be wall for Sniper! Engineer: Sniper up there. Sniper watchin'. Medic: There is a Sniper up ahead! Stop that Sniper! Sniper: I see another Sniper, mates. Hold onto your head through here. Spy: Bushman's watching! Stay clear of here unless you want to be in a puddle of your own head. Trap ahead: Scout: Bombs comin' up! They're waitin' for us! Soldier: Laaaaandmines!!!!!!!!!!! Get behind cover men! Pyro: Trap up ahead! (muffled) Heavy: They will be waiting for us. I see danger. Engineer: They're waitin' for us up ahead! Don't walk into those bombs! Stickybombs up ahead! Medic: There is the stickybombs there! Do not fall into their trap! Sniper: I smell a trap comin' up... Those wankers are waiting for us... Spy: There is a trap up ahead! Do not fall victim to their traps! Good video!
6:22: Here are some ideas for a "Careful" line for each merc: Scout: "Ayo watch out ahead!" Demo: "Ay! Ahead be rough!" Heavy: "Be! Carrful!" Engineer: "Up ahead!" Medic: "Careful!"
I have some ideas for sorry using voice lines that already exist: Engineer: sorry m’am Demo: I did wha’ a’ could! Pyro: (some “mmmhf” sound that has the right syllables for “sorry”) On another note, soldier’s “careful” line could be “tread lightly men!”
Honestly the only command I felt like was lacking is "Behind you!" Yes, you can spam Spy! for that but it doesn't really work especially cuz people instinctively start spy checking instead of expecting Medic and his Pocket to be flanking and stuff Or they just may think you're goofing since Spy! is somewhat of a local meme in TF2 community I find it hard to keep people's attention on their back but other than that I think the current voice lines are fine and nice
i would actually love how this would turn out and even if valve likes it who knows if the voice actors of tf2 can still do their voices, would be funny to hear a friendly heavy say sorry all the time and with the bots saying "sniper ahead!" its gonna save you getting killed
the "Pass to me!" command should at least work in CTF, it's absolutely awkward to be a scout standing there tying to convince the Gibus heavy that to drop the Intel for me.
I would like an option to make the voice command menu more like the voice menu in Left 4 Dead, where you swipe your mouse in a certain direction to choose from a wheel of commands
A pinging system like valorant’s would be so useful for quick communication! you could quickly ping the location of an engineer nest or ping a spot that is dangerous to go through such as a sniper sightline or a group of enemies with only one button.
People forget the usefulness of key modifier binds, something not natively available in source, but you can write some sophisticated scripts with aliases and binds to have multiple commands on the same key with a modifier. I use the SHIFT key for that, e.g. i can press E for "Medic!" and SHIFT+E for "Activate Charge!" (or "Ubercharge ready" if i am Medic).
I think what you're looking for is a Left 4 Dead 2 vocalizer, but in Team Fortress 2. I've been playing a ton of Left 4 Dead 2 recently with a vocalizer mod, and I'm just overwhelmed by how many different voice lines there are. Callouts for every special infected, all in one menu. Things like "be careful," "follow me," "stick close," they're all really great ways to communicate if you don't have (or feel like using) a mic. I think that if you could literally take Ion's Vocalizer (the mod I use) and port it to TF2 with some modifications for different content (i.e. special infected -> mercenaries), it would be perfect. That being said, I have 16 keys bound to menus of 9 different voicelines each (and that's just the ones that work in official servers), and that's a lot to memorize. Maybe we could have something a little more stripped-down for TF2. In addition (and finally), it's worth noting that the L4D2 vocalizers are radial menus that require you to hold down the button (in this case, Z, X, and C), move your mouse in the direction of the voice line you want to use, and let go of the button (or click). This takes away your ability to look around, shoot, and shove (or alt-fire in TF2), if only for a second. At higher-level play, I doubt this would matter much given that players would likely do it so fast, it wouldn't take more than a few frames. But it would definitely introduce a steeper learning curve. That's my take on this concept. Would be interested to hear others' thoughts.
On the topic of not wanted to stretch to hit the 6+ keys, I think you should be able to use the scroll wheel to, y’know, scroll through the menu, then press down on the scroll wheel to select what you want. Also could work for disguising as spy. To the issue of weapon switching, just as long as you have the menu open, you don't change weapons. I think it should also be able to be turned off in settings.
I don't like the idea too much though admittedly that's in part due to me binding scroll up to my primary and scroll down to secondary, with melee being mouse 3
I always was confused by there being multiple "pass to me" voice command options in the game. Especially so as a newer player that only just joined and started in late 2021. I also do think it would be a no-brainer to add a Sniper callout like MvM has for automatic voice responses. I do like other commenters' suggestions here about "hello" or "sorry" voice commands, Overwatch has those, so those would be nice to add in. Only downside is, not all the VA's are around or available anymore so they're no longer possible to do :( (RIP Rick May 🙏 and also Nathan and Grant are no longer interested. All we have is the remaining active cast that's still traveling around for convention appearances and doing signings and their Search for the Sandvich series)
I've just always used "Sentry Ahead" whenever there's danger ahead, be it a sniper, trap or enemy group around a corner. I agree putting the "ready" commands in pvp somehow would be quite useful, though.
Allow for people to manage their own binds, if they want 3 to be Yes, let them change it to that, if they want to re-add something like Pass to Me they can.
Aren't your "Careful!" and "Ready?" command ideas are pretty much just the Incoming! and Go go go! ones? Sure, they have different connotations in how they're presented, but the idea they convey is similar. I kind of have the same kind of gripe with how Cheers/Jeers compares with Positive/Negative, since both are just merc reactions to presented information and have little differentiating them. Careful and Incoming both state that there are enemies ahead who are ready for us and the difference between the Ready and Go commands are just the difference between asking if the listener is ready compared to telling the recipient that you are ready, at which point a "Yes" or "No" would accomplish identical goals.
I need someone to give me a good explanation for why Cheer, Jeer, Positive, Negative, and Battle Cry are all unique buttons when these could be condensed into 2 or 3 buttons.
I'm bored so uhh... here's what I think each class would say for each voiceline Sniper Ahead! Scout: Sniper lookin' this way! Soldier: ALERT! Sniper ahead! Pyro: *sentry ahead voiceline* Demo: Sniper! Watch out! Heavy: Sniper ahead! Engie: watch that sniper, boys Medic: Snipeeer! (very distressed) Sniper: Keep your heads down, lads Spy: bushman, just ahead Trap Ahead! I feel like this could be used for more than just sticky traps, so I made these a little more generalized Scout: That way's trapped, guys Soldier: TRAP AHEAD Pyro: *sentry ahead voiceline* Demo: They're waitin for us that way Heavy: Way ahead is trapped! Engie: don't go that way, it's trapped Medic: GET AWAY! it's trapped! (loud yell so as to warn pockets better) Sniper: That way's no good Spy: do not go this way Careful! Scout: Careful guys! Careful! Soldier: Don't you die on me, son! Pyro: *battle cry voiceline? like he's calling out to be careful?* Demo: Don't overdo it lads! Heavy: Careful! Get behind Heavy! Engie: Hold your horses boys! Medic: Wait! Be careful! Sniper: Take it easy lads! Spy: DO NOT get yourselves killed! (frustrated) Ready! Scout: You ready? I'm ready! Soldier: I will not wait for you to be ready! Pyro: *small laughter voiceline* Demo: ya ready lads? Heavy: Ready or not? Engie: Yall ready? (calling out like in the expiration date vid) Medic: Ready? (also like expiration date vid) Sniper: ya ready mates? Spy: Are you ready? Sorry! Scout: Huh? oh, yeah, sorry (dismissive) Soldier: oh, sorry (this line is already in the game) Pyro: *sad voiceline* Demo: Sorry! (doesn't he already have a sorry line? just use that) Heavy: Heavy is sorry Engie: I am damn sorry for that Medic: oops! sorry! (a little less sarcastic than the existing line, but still a tad sarcastic) Sniper: ah I'm sorry mate (also an existing line) Spy: apologies (hey! also in the game already)
honestly i keep wanting to have a "i need ammo" line, not sure what it'd be useful for but i just feel the need to somehow let my team know i'm running out of ammo
As a part time medic main who uses the go left and go right often to direct my pocket to the ideal exit point on dustbowl spawn, I think you're overlooking how useful they can be
I think these additions work well. One thing I think that could be done though is instead of moving the commands around the three menus, have the menus be customizable. Think Monster Hunter World's item wheel where you can pick what voice commands go in each slot of the three menus, with either the current or your suggested menu setup being default, and valve could possibly even give them presets like with weapon and taunt loadouts. This solves the complaints of people not liking the command menus (you can just choose where you want them instead). You could even keep the three voice commands that you suggested be trashed, either having them take up the 0 slot or players could just choose not to use them in their menus. Only real downside to this idea is players would likely spend a lot of time setting up their preffered voice command settings, but messing around with settings isn't atypical in valve games anyway.
here's some ideas for the voice lines from the different classes for the different voice commands you suggested (Voice) Sniper Ahead! Scout: Yo there's a frickin sniper ahead! Soldier: I see a sniper! Pyro: Mmph! (Sniper ahead) Demoman: There's a bloody sniper up ahead! Heavy: There's baby sniper ahead! Engineer: There's a sniper coming up! Medic: Achtung! Sniper ahead! Sniper: There's a sniper ahead and I'm not talking about me! Spy: There is a sniper ahead! (Voice) Trap Ahead! Scout: There's a frickin trap ahead! Soldier: They set a trap up ahead! Pyro: Mmph! (Trap ahead) Demoman: Someone set a bloody trap ahead! Heavy: Which little baby man set trap ahead?! Engineer: Somebody set a doggone trap! Medic: Watch for the trap dummkopfs! Sniper: Stay away from that trap! Spy: You're a dead man if you walk into that trap! (Voice) Careful! Scout: I don't like the look of this! Soldier: Stay frosty men! Pyro: *alert muffling* Demoman: Either I'm drunk or something bad's gonna happen! Heavy: All you babys need to watch out!! Engineer: I got a bad feelin about this! Medic: Everyone stay calm! Sniper: Don't charge in guns blazing! Spy: I feel there is danger afoot! (Voice) Ready? Scout: Guys lets do this! Soldier: Everyone charge! Pyro: *excited muffling* Demoman: Let's blow them up! Heavy: Let's make these babies cry! Engineer: Ride em' cowboys! Medic: Time for a surgical strike! Sniper: Now's our chance! Spy: The coast is clear, move in! (Voice) Sorry! Scout: Yeah my bad! Soldier: Apologies men! Pyro: *remorseful muffling* Demoman: I got too drunk! Heavy: Izvini! Engineer: Sorry fellers! Medic: Verzeihung! Sniper: Sorry mate! Spy: My deepest apologies!
Good video. I've been wanting a sniper command for awhile now, also in terms of the "Ready?" Command it seems people have used "Go!Go!Go!" As a good substitute for now. Another idea could be a "Follow me!" Command which could be a good replacement for the left/right commands and could also be a big help for new players. Also I just see "Sorry" being used all the time by sweats when they get a kill instead of "Thanks!"
Fun Fact: In the early days of TF2 people would use the "Sentry Ahead" line to let people know snipers were ahead since it was more useful against snipers than sentries

"Sorry" voicelines ideas;
Scout:
Oh, my bad!
Whoops, sorry fellas!
That was my bad!

Scout doesn't have anything new to say in that mode outside of the Rottenburg (or whatever it's called) map?)

fun fact: L4D2 (and i think L4D1) had voice wheels for the voice commands, and im surprised valve didn't do that for tf2, basically when going z-c, a wheel would appear, then with your cursor you could choose which voiceline to use
Multiplayer fps environment wouldn't work as well with that I think because your cursor is normally tied to the mouse, making it more difficult to move+aim+shoot while using commands
@@nathanfivecoate5848 L4D2 is... also a multiplayer fps? It's just smaller.
I think they later ported the voice command wheel into CSGO, and many other FPS games have adopted it since
Though, that being said, a weird part of me does want them to have an "advanced" voice command option where it pulls up a menu reminiscent of TF2 and it's predecessors.

i've literally dropped items and tools in Minecraft because i'm trying to tell someone 'Thanks!' using voice commands, and my drop item key is set to X. similarly i also often try to taunt in other games by pressing G. guess that starts to happen when you've poured 2,000 hours into one game

There should be little bubbles similar to the call for medic one that people can see when you use voice commands so that they're a lot easier to notice and read for your team
lol imagine a hidden invinsible spy with that thing on because he's broadcasting the enemy movement to his team, real funny as hell
And make it an option to disable it in settings, too.
Theres a command to call for health, with its own key (E), but not to say "hey im out of/low on ammo", which is arguably just as valuable as the medic call. Especially since, ive had uber popped while i fired my last shot before the charge.
Well, there's no on-demand way to give ammo to teammates other than placing a dispenser (which already has a command) or killbinding.
I have heard of a idea on that medics should be able to see their patient's ammo count, and in Deep Rock Galactic, the dwarves automatically call out when they are out of ammo, where I think another expansion on that concept could be the characters to automatically call out "low on ammo" when below 25/33%
@@edvingjervaldsaeter3659 Wouldn't it make more sense for an engineer to see ammo counts as they're the ones who are able to provide it?
This is a great idea, that way they dont need to remove any
can't you already do this with text binds? I know that'd once again screw over f2ps but the two ideas are practically identical.
You could always use the L4D radial menu to replace the buttons commands, where you click z/y/x and then use your mouse to pick the command.
I think one is for disdain towards your team, while the other is general disappointment
Love the idea of a follow me command. Evolution of medic while aiming at a medic
Demoman: look both way before you cross!
Sniper: okay mate
*walks into sight line and dies anyway*
I'd love a "Sorry!" command honestly.
The command "Sorry!" would be great for when you accidentally hurt or kill a friendly
A good change would be for the "Pass to me!" voice line to also be usable in ctf to ask for the intel
Tbh that's what I thought it was for before this video
Voice Commands in TF2 have always seemed like a strange case to me.

@@Rended_ On the one hand, if you wanna call for help but don't wanna call for a Medic specifically, it's nice to have options.
Same as the ready command.
Very well done video. It's amazing how you found a distinct video topic and the script is well written.
If there was a "trap ahead" voiceline, someone would absolutely have the mercs say "trap ahead" and then show like astolfo or something
even better.
WHOOOO YEAH BABY THATS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT
Sounds like a W for me
imagine if there was a short video of a few mercs (probably BLU) move foward then stop and say "trap ahead!" with the next scene showing a shack full of floating "premium" stuff with the "Medic!" few second sound effect and then one of the mercs walk towards it as the song continues to play but suddenly cut out when they immediately die from touching the trap.
The other players would then schandefure
I think taking notes from voice commands from CS: Source would be interesting. Things like "Follow me" and "Fall back" woul definitely help with coordination.
"Incoming!" is TF2's fall back, but a follow me would be a good one.
"Get Back!" command would be really useful, because "Incoming!" often sounds more like "Get Ready!" rather than "Retreat!"
I do use as both so I can see the need for a seperation.
having to say incoming when i noticed a couple of enemies heading my teams way really needs to be specified. like "an enemy group is heading this way" or "their medic has full uber"
also yea i think ready? should be a voice line. so many times when i had a medic or myself as medic having to say go go go in order for them to go in. but nobody seems to listen to that command :/
A few times
6:56
i feel like the "Go Go Go" voice command already works for this
The "go left" and "go right" are incredibly usefull in MvM to warn about flanking robots without losing time by tiping in chat.
Frrrrr
The "trap ahead" one is a really good command. Its likes the "sentry" one
On the topic of communication, the ability to ping locations or players would also be a neat way to add some flavour.
Btw excellent video as always man, great to see you getting more recognition. ♥
no one wants a competitive tf2

"Go Go Go" already gets used in the same role as the hypothetical "Ready!", but more clarity would be nice
I think the "careful" voiceline is already synonymous with "incoming" as a means of giving people a heads up.
I would also suggest an "[enemy] 's low" line as a means to tell teammates that an enemy is at low health (kind of like pointing at someone that's a spy), and even if they're not it could encourage pushes (or troll teammates).
the "careful" command is basically telling your team to take a breather with their aggressiveness, "incoming" is when the enemy is making a push

Yes, you can spam Spy! for that but it doesn't really work especially cuz people instinctively start spy checking instead of expecting Medic and his Pocket to be flanking and stuff
Or they just may think you're goofing since Spy! is somewhat of a local meme in TF2 community
I find it hard to keep people's attention on their back but other than that I think the current voice lines are fine and nice
i would actually love how this would turn out and even if valve likes it who knows if the voice actors of tf2 can still do their voices, would be funny to hear a friendly heavy say sorry all the time and with the bots saying "sniper ahead!" its gonna save you getting killed
the "Pass to me!" command should at least work in CTF, it's absolutely awkward to be a scout standing there tying to convince the Gibus heavy that to drop the Intel for me.
I would like an option to make the voice command menu more like the voice menu in Left 4 Dead, where you swipe your mouse in a certain direction to choose from a wheel of commands
Your videos are great but my favourite part about them is your spot on editing. I love looking at your videos it’s so nice
Can I just say the clip at 0:10 was absolutely awesome?
I think it should also be able to be turned off in settings.
that could interfere with weapon switching though
@@EezePuffy I thought of that, I meant only after opening the menu, could also work for disguising as spy.
I don't like the idea too much though admittedly that's in part due to me binding scroll up to my primary and scroll down to secondary, with melee being mouse 3
@@nathanfivecoate5848 Well thats why I think its a setting you can turn off or on, its just an option for those who want it
yeah, we do need a "Sorry!" command, so many time i have accidentally kills friendly's ;-;
i'd love a simple "hello" command too

I would also appreciate one for "you're welcome", it's a bit more niche, granted, but I'd still like to see it implemented
This is a fantastic video. I feel like the only time I see pass to me used is on CTF maps where a scout wants to be the runner.
I'm bored so uhh...
here's what I think each class would say for each voiceline
Sniper Ahead!
Scout: Sniper lookin' this way!
Soldier: ALERT! Sniper ahead!
Pyro: *sentry ahead voiceline*
Demo: Sniper! Watch out!
Heavy: Sniper ahead!
Engie: watch that sniper, boys
Medic: Snipeeer! (very distressed)
Sniper: Keep your heads down, lads
Spy: bushman, just ahead
Trap Ahead!
I feel like this could be used for more than just sticky traps, so I made these a little more generalized
Scout: That way's trapped, guys
Soldier: TRAP AHEAD
Pyro: *sentry ahead voiceline*
Demo: They're waitin for us that way
Heavy: Way ahead is trapped!
Engie: don't go that way, it's trapped
Medic: GET AWAY! it's trapped! (loud yell so as to warn pockets better)
Sniper: That way's no good
Spy: do not go this way
Careful!
Scout: Careful guys! Careful!
Soldier: Don't you die on me, son!
Pyro: *battle cry voiceline? like he's calling out to be careful?*
Demo: Don't overdo it lads!
Heavy: Careful! Get behind Heavy!
Engie: Hold your horses boys!
Medic: Wait! Be careful!
Sniper: Take it easy lads!
Spy: DO NOT get yourselves killed! (frustrated)
Ready!
Scout: You ready? I'm ready!
Soldier: I will not wait for you to be ready!
Pyro: *small laughter voiceline*
Demo: ya ready lads?
Heavy: Ready or not?
Engie: Yall ready? (calling out like in the expiration date vid)
Medic: Ready? (also like expiration date vid)
Sniper: ya ready mates?
Spy: Are you ready?
Sorry!
Scout: Huh? oh, yeah, sorry (dismissive)
Soldier: oh, sorry (this line is already in the game)
Pyro: *sad voiceline*
Demo: Sorry! (doesn't he already have a sorry line? just use that)
Heavy: Heavy is sorry
Engie: I am damn sorry for that
Medic: oops! sorry! (a little less sarcastic than the existing line, but still a tad sarcastic)
Sniper: ah I'm sorry mate (also an existing line)
Spy: apologies (hey! also in the game already)
"who the fuck is playing pass time anymore?"
me
I am,
with the 8 other people that play
its honestly a lot of fun most of the time
Your level of editing is something i strive for
i like to go : THANKS,THANKS,THANKS,as soldier whenever i just see some friendly player walking around like to make it clear i won't hurt him lol
your skin choice is superb, I envy your strange potent poison weapons
The sorry command would be especially good, like when I accidentally kill someone while trying to be friendly
honestly i keep wanting to have a "i need ammo" line, not sure what it'd be useful for but i just feel the need to somehow let my team know i'm running out of ammo
I think the pass to me voice line is actually for capture the flag, so a full HP scout can ask the 20HP heavy for the intel 🧖🏾♂️👍🏾
"Cheers" Should be combined with "Positive" and "Jeers" should be combined with "Negative".
In my 2k hrs of tf2 i have never heard anyone use the go left or go right voice commands
Only real downside to this idea is players would likely spend a lot of time setting up their preffered voice command settings, but messing around with settings isn't atypical in valve games anyway.
you didnt have to just give us all depression with Rick May like that, brother
But without Go Left and Go Right we can't have Demoman saying HIT LE- and then laughing
You could probably combine "Cheers" with "Positive," and likewise with "Jeers" and "Negative."
6:08 this was my exact hitsound for like half a year LOL
here's some ideas for the voice lines from the different classes for the different voice commands you suggested
(Voice) Sniper Ahead!
Scout: Yo there's a frickin sniper ahead!
Soldier: I see a sniper!
Pyro: Mmph! (Sniper ahead)
Demoman: There's a bloody sniper up ahead!
Pyro: Mmph! (Trap ahead)
Demoman: Someone set a bloody trap ahead!
Pyro: *alert muffling*
Demoman: Either I'm drunk or something bad's gonna happen!
Pyro: *excited muffling*
Demoman: Let's blow them up!
Pyro: *remorseful muffling*
Demoman: I got too drunk!
Heavy: Izvini!
Engineer: Sorry fellers!
Medic: Verzeihung!
Sniper: Sorry mate!
Spy: My deepest apologies!
I think we need "ping" system too
Like in csgo this would help with communication very much
I would’ve liked a final graph of what it would look like with your new voice lines. Adhd is mf when it comes to visual representation.
Great video!
A real gentleman always says "Thanks!" after each single kill. Remember that
I Remember PUBG Mobile had a voice command menu you could customize, which would fix the not enough slots problem. i hope tf3 takes this idea
Pass to me! would be slightly better if it was enabled in CTF
3:30 ANOTHER PIECE DROPPED !
Hey that's awesome! I also had the idea of a "Sorry!" voice command! Glad someone agrees that it'd be a good addition!
