    Hi, Deb! May I say, as a retired chemistry teacher, that you are a fabulous teacher. I have attended many online and in-person classes. The quilters teaching the classes were so talented at quilting and piecing but some were not able to explain how to do their technique. Teachers get frustrated with that very easily. You are phenomenal at explaining everything with such clarity. Technique and precision is so important in this craft. I am so very impressed !! Thank you so much!!

    This tool is fantastic. I would offer a few of my preferences to save time. (I recently had to to do 200 of these, so I'm sharing my trials and tribulations!). Given the pattern, the unit had to be perfectly executed.
    First: Get this tool. Don't dither or use other ruler hacks. Oversizing and trimming down (slivers) biased units ensures 100% success rate . (No Deb does not pay me)
    Second: Consider cutting from rectangle units. To measure, for the unit that you are making cut one unit (e.g. two sides), and then measure the width of your cut unit smooshed together. If you cut these rectangles, you will save so much time because you are not rotating your ruler. I recently had to make 200 of these units. They finished 3 x 6. I cut my rectangles 7 x 4.25. ( so basic math would be, strip height/2 + .75 But you should verify using the smooshing method!). Also, better accuracy because, lets face it, aligning on an angle that is already cut is sometimes not so easy. As these are oversized units, then a wobble does not matter so much.
    Third: Consider glue basting your units together. You can phase your work, and the bias seam is stabilized and no pins to catch on you or sister units. (I 'm a serial glue baster).
    Fourth: When trimming your units phase your cuts into 2 passes: 1st pass to make first 2 trims. Trim, and set on a pile. Make a 2nd pass by rotating the entire pile and making the 2nd set of trims. Benefit? If you are trimming 50 at a time, you are making 1 rotation instead of 49 additional. And each pass you are hitting different marks.
    In my quilting sweatshop (I'm the only one), it all adds up.
    And these split rectangles make charming borders to make peaks and valleys when background + color are paired.

    I am really enjoying your series. This is another must have in the collection. It is always easier to see demonstrations than figure out what to do - even with written instructions. I'm lazy! LOL! Thank you so much. xx

      I agree. I just ordered the 2 items (ruler & laminated bonus sheet) and the free instruction sheet (download). I ordered the corner block ruler yesterday. Wish I could combine the two orders from yesterday & today and save the shipping charge of $8.95 on at least one, but doubtful it can be done. I'm so looking forward to receiving these two rulers now. My only concern is I'd like these rulers (all of them) to stay in place as I make the cut. That's a continual problem I have with skill . . . . wish there were adhesive stickers that could be applied to the backs of rulers. It could be that I'm 75 years old, or that my table is too high.
      I stumbled across Deb's demos on You Tube, and I'm so happy I did! Now I have it book-marked on my PC. Happy Camper here!

      @@nancydublin9666 I hope that, in the last months, you have discovered that there are silicon adhesive dots and circles (one brand is True Grips) that can be added to the back of any quilting ruler. We all need them!

      I agree with you, Gwyn, about Deb's tips. She gives excellent ones. I am going to employ her 1/4" seam "creation" by using tapes one on top of the other to achieve best results. No doubt Deb is best! Also, do you ever notice her clothes? I think she either sews them herself or buys "designer" styles. They are all so nice. Her matching jewelry is very nice too. It's not diamonds, but matching "good" jewelry. She's an impressive lady all the while very down-to-earth with out airs to herself. I'm a new fan! :)

    This years “Brown bag mystery” called for a split recs unit but of course they wanted you to buy their ruler. I had just bought your ruler last fall so I was so happy to use it of course Tuckerizing the pattern. It turned out fantastic. Now to get that sheet and have some fun.

      Thank you! Not only are you an ingenious inventor but also an excellent teacher! Love your videos. They are slow enough to follow and understand without making us feel like you are talking to 3year olds as some quilt “teachers” do. Thanks for all you do for quilters and for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us! God bless you and your family

      No the units in this video are different than what is in the video. The quilt just uses just plain Split Rects units that are Corner Popped.

    Couldn’t you use the “V” block tool to cut out the “A” pieces, instead of trying to draw the “optional” line on the split rects tool? It appears to be the same shape.

    • @DebTuckersStudio180Design
      @DebTuckersStudio180Design  3 года назад

      You can. We didn't want to make it a two tool technique sheet for those that don't have the V Block tool. So if you have the V block tool please feel free to cut the shape using that tool instead.
