Because guess what? They pay 17 bucks the 19 bucks. They get all their call duties. They bought previously on PlayStation once they drop in the game pass and they get all future day ones plus a bunch of other games they might try out, doesn't that sound like the best deal instead of dropping a whopping 70 Bucks every f****** year for one game plus battle passes. Sony’s huge push into live service was a huge mistake. Imagine the great games they could’ve put out at this point in time instead pouring the time, resources, and manpower into multiple live service games that got cancelled in the end anyway.

Trying really hard to value your spent money to others? Let's be real, if Sony didn't have games in the last 2 decades, then Xbox definitely had even less. For such a hardcore gamer you are not helping the industry with buying games for 8 bucks. Sure, we all want to save money, but sadly the industry can't live from sales alone. Even Xbox moved day one games to another tier, says a lot if you ask me. Also, as Phil Spencer said, Xbox flopped in the last generation when people were building their digital libraries and it's hard to move to another console when you spent too much on another one. GP does help with the missing library for new consumers, but it's still hard to attract new users. They did manage to get some and with the new "no console needed" PR they may get even more. This live service shift from Sony is awful and I hope they learn something from it, seems they already did by removing Jim Ryan. You should start reading news outlets that you find trustworthy, IGN & the big ones are probably the worst place you can go and if you're a hardcore gamer...
Sony should keep trying to get a live service hit. As much as the hardcore fans like the movie-games, there aren't enough casual fans buying them. 300M to make 100M is a huge gamble, and single player games won't make up the losses from buying Bungie, Firewalk, and the games they cancelled years after development. Sony's in trouble, but nobody wants to talk about it.
I haven't had a Playstation console since PS2. I would of gotten a PS5 just for Twisted Metal alone but nope. They cancelled the one game that could of bought them money
@@nicekix3038 Simply put, the value proposition is gone. From the later half of PS4's life cycle to the start of PS5, Sony has grown increasingly Westernized and less consumer friendly. I believe this will be especially noticeable if you're from regions outside the US. The US is their biggest market so everyone else is secondary. I'm just gonna highlight the final nail in the coffin, which is the hiking of PS Plus subscription by 33%. Their monthly PS Plus games have been terrible for so long, and they have the cheek to raise prices by such a large amount. It's not that I can't afford it, but it simply no longer makes sense. I don't care about the monthly games anymore but paying this much for online gameplay is just silly when I can do it for free on PC. The success of the PS4 has made them arrogant again just like early PS3 days, but this time there is no coming back since they have lost their values as a Japanese company. Now I can't even convince myself to stay just for PS exclusive games. At the least Nintendo has a much more compelling library of excellent exclusives for me to continue with the Switch, even though I also don't like how Nintendo does some stuff.

He was the captain. He's responsible for sinking the ship based off his choices. Perhaps if he didn't spend all their money trying to stop the Xbox-ABK merger and invested it in their 1st party studios, they'd have something to show for it this generation. The Xbox One had no games as the saying went. The same can now be said on the PS5.

Life service games have a really high failure rate. But if you want to give a game a chance to succeed you have to be creative and innovative. No one needs games like concord..
Concord is almost a repeat of Lawbreakers. A good game that is coming out at the wrong time with the wrong look/feel/advertisement/user sentiment towards live services. It is also coming in under baked and missing features it's competitors have. AND the biggest sin right now is that it's a premium paid for game ($40) rather than F2P. Concord, like Lawbreakers, is a legit good game wrapped in a ton of other problems. I like the ideas behind it, but it being tied up in the drama of Sony trying to make everything a live service is not doing it favors. What really sucks for Firewalk is they were meant to make this game and it's not other people/studios being pulled off single player projects to make it. But that doesn't mean they won't suffer from the bad press regardless even if it's not fair. So, yeah, Lawbreakers 2.0. Good game goes to die again.
I have both but please tell me what exactly xbox have released 1st or 3rd party console exclusive in the last 6 months. Hellblade 2 and palworld beta are the only 2 off the top of my head. Yes, concord failed but helldivers was a success. Not everything will be a hit when it comes to MP live service.

I am certainly hoping that the Sony weirdness was a result of Jim Ryan's leadership and not others as well. It wasn't just the live service decisions. They done other weird things under his leadership too. However, PlayStation has never known how to do multiplayer focused games well, period. I hope the new leadership do much better by focusing on what they *are* good at, single player focused games. I also hope Xbox's next generation does well and the Switch 2 or whatever it is called continues to do well for Nintendo. We as gamers will be best served if PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC are all doing well.
the main problem with games on PC going to Consoles is that u have to downgrade those games cause they would not work smoothly on consoles seens they are weaker than a PC(high End ) and as for Concord even if it was F2P on PC i still think ppl on PC would't want to make an PSN Account and it would still floop but the fact that u have a PSN req a 40$ entry and cutscenes as a side content is bizzare for a Live Service game and the fact that they invest over 50% of their efforts into Live Service is stupid considering the fact that they have no AAA 1st party games as of today and they wanna Launch the PS5 Pro but with what games?cause noone is gonna buy the Pro version with no games
absolutely, they just have to be way better than existing ones. or have to be very different than existing ones. good example of that is sea of thieves and rocket league. fortnite also did something that made it stand out with the building mechanic.
Marvel Rivals closed beta has 12x more players than Concord open beta so I’m guessing it might do okay. The launch roster is bigger and it’s an existing IP too…

I actually really enjoyed Foamstars for a few months (there are dozens of us!), but it should have been free 2 play and multiplatform. However, it was severely kneecapped by the "there can be only one" mentality when the obvious comparisons to Splatoon started, as soon as it was revealed. Splatoon never appealed to me and I really liked the three dimensional nature of the foam, how it transformed the stage, and how matches would swing with the Star Player mechanic. Matchmaking was so spotty until they finally fixed it (too little too late, sadly), and by the time they did, it got stupidly sweaty and developed some impenetrable meta with one of it's updates that added super gem skills, then me and my friend group dropped off the game. I think Sony should have multiplayer games and more variety. I actually wasn't hating on Concord... but it's slow, bland, DOA af and literally none of my friends will ever buy it. It could have been Twisted Metal years ago instead of Destruction All-Stars. We could have had Factions with a dedicated studio formed to maintain it after Naughty Dog shipped it. Hell, the small Dreams community was waiting YEARS for a multiplayer update... but I guess it didn't pass Bungie's sniff test for addictive monetization potential. If Concord was approved through the same process, then I personally think Bungie was showing preferential treatment towards ex-Bungie friends at Firewalk.
When it comes to Mega Man, anything short of a Mega Man Legends 1&2 Remaster, a Mega Man Legends 1&2 Remake, or a Mega Man Legends 3? I'm not interested. At bare minimum, a Mega Man Legends 3 game to complete the story would be greatly appreciated.

I feel like Sony panicked when Microsoft announced their intent to acquire ABK that they rushed and didn't give enought thought to the live service strategy. The end result is just like Microsoft started from the beginning. COD will still be available on Playstation. Sure Playstation has lost the marketing and won't get exclusive content, but Playstation gamers don't have to switch consoles. They already acquired Bungie and that's a solid studio even if overpriced. Otherwise Bungie would likely be re-acquired my Microsoft today. Firewalk studio could have picked up SOCOM and fans would have been dancing in the streets. The rest of the studios could continue to work on games they are passionate about. We are all fatigued from all of these live service games. So now people are selecting a few and just sticking to it.
The live service strategy was in full swing years before the ABK buyout was even announced. God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West etc were all clearly greenlit under Shawn Layden before he was pushed out of the job in 2018 (we know from the Insomniac leaks Spider-Man 2 took 6 years for example). Destruction All Stars, Concord, the cancelled Factions.... THAT'S Jim Ryan's Playstation. It was going to happen regardless of Xbox's ABK purchase. Playstation done dropped the ball. It's as simple as that.
It’s not just about this game, all games this gen have been poor. The hardware decisions are laughable. Look at the PiS5, look at the portal, they are comical. The UX is a joke and there’s just no games.
Not a hero shooter but I think people looking for the next live service game is just waiting for Marvel Rivals. And likely just went back to Destiny 2 and Overwatch while waiting for BlackOps 6. Also without seeing Gameplay Marathon with Bungie’s name attached to it alone will have the arena shooter fans waiting for it. People trash it but Halo Infinite still has quite a few people playing.
I can understand investing in 2 - 3 live service games but 10 or 12 (forgot the exact number) was a mistake and even people who don't know anything about business knew that. I don't think concord Is bad but it's just meh and come way too late...the way forward for the industry is probably a return to AA or indie like games both from a creative standpoint and a budget perspective + profitabiliry.

Sony hasn’t even revealed a proper roadmap yet. Ghost of Tsushima 2 is inevitable, Naughty Dog is making a new IP, Bend Studio is making a new IP, Santa Monica Studio new IP, Housemarque is new IP, Media Molecule new IP, Bluepoint Games is making something “original” etc. There’s also new Uncharted game in development.

Steam players did buy GoT and had exclusive things in that port to PC that Playstation didn't have (forgot what PC port had that Playstation didn't) That's why I said that Stellar Blade selling 1m copies was good and devs supposedly making a PC port and knowing Steam they not gonna price it at console price. Astro Bot the only Playstation game I actually can't give criticism on and that's just me being honest. Spider Man 2 was supposed to get multiplayer as DLC but it was scrapped which is why people were mad. As for me owning a PS2 that is true cause after that console I owned GameCube and Xbox 360 then stopped console gaming and played on emulators. Got again during PS4/Xbox One gen and heard you could get emulators in dev mode but not retail. I always found that the 12 live service game roadmap of PS was a huge mistake. Sure maybe 3 games, but thats it. The rest should have been focussed on .. bringing beloved IP's back and new titles of recent excisting IP's. at least imo.

Spider-Man multiplayer being cancelled had nothing to do with Concord. Those games are made by two completely different studios. I rather Insomniac put all of their focus into making Wolverine as good as possible

I fail to see what’s wrong with Concord. No battle passes, all post launch content is free to anybody with the game, so it’s a one and done purchase, all cosmetics are earned in game, and there will be weekly cinematics for those interested in that stuff. In other words, it’s how every online game should be, instead of continually raping users for money after they purchase a game. It’s how every game should be, period.
If you fail to see what everyone else does then go ahead and buy it, god knows that theyre gonna need players for that game before they close the servers for good.

Yep, Stellar blade was a huge failure and absolutely no one seems to make that correlation with there being 60 million PS5's sold and the game barely broke one million months after release. It just proves that sony muppets only play COD (an xbox first party game now lol), FIFA, NBA2k, Fortnite and madden those are the only games that they play no exclusives in sight.

Stellar Blade is a tricky situation, the game wasn’t originally a PS5 only game, and was claimed to be uncensored even though Sony paid for exclusivity. The day one patch that censored it pretty much just made it not appealing due to the lies. People who were excited for it on Xbox or PC who had it originally announced there never got it, and the platform it released on was a censored version.

It's simple. Sony went into live service games because there's no money in the type of single player games they traditionally make. No margin. They had no choice.
The problem was they don’t know how to make multiplayer games. They only did single player games last generation as well and then they think they can just make live service out their behind. This is something Xbox don’t get enough credit for, they came into the industry excelling in games with both single player and multiplayer, games like that are rare and the fact the most successful ones were under Xbox even before acquisitions proves Xbox hit the lottery

Trying really hard to value your spent money to others? Let's be real, if Sony didn't have games in the last 2 decades, then Xbox definitely had even less. For such a hardcore gamer you are not helping the industry with buying games for 8 bucks. Sure, we all want to save money, but sadly the industry can't live from sales alone. Even Xbox moved day one games to another tier, says a lot if you ask me.
Also, as Phil Spencer said, Xbox flopped in the last generation when people were building their digital libraries and it's hard to move to another console when you spent too much on another one. GP does help with the missing library for new consumers, but it's still hard to attract new users. They did manage to get some and with the new "no console needed" PR they may get even more.
This live service shift from Sony is awful and I hope they learn something from it, seems they already did by removing Jim Ryan.

@@nicekix3038 Simply put, the value proposition is gone. From the later half of PS4's life cycle to the start of PS5, Sony has grown increasingly Westernized and less consumer friendly. I believe this will be especially noticeable if you're from regions outside the US. The US is their biggest market so everyone else is secondary.
I'm just gonna highlight the final nail in the coffin, which is the hiking of PS Plus subscription by 33%. Their monthly PS Plus games have been terrible for so long, and they have the cheek to raise prices by such a large amount. It's not that I can't afford it, but it simply no longer makes sense. I don't care about the monthly games anymore but paying this much for online gameplay is just silly when I can do it for free on PC.
The success of the PS4 has made them arrogant again just like early PS3 days, but this time there is no coming back since they have lost their values as a Japanese company. Now I can't even convince myself to stay just for PS exclusive games. At the least Nintendo has a much more compelling library of excellent exclusives for me to continue with the Switch, even though I also don't like how Nintendo does some stuff.

He was the captain. He's responsible for sinking the ship based off his choices. Perhaps if he didn't spend all their money trying to stop the Xbox-ABK merger and invested it in their 1st party studios, they'd have something to show for it this generation. The Xbox One had no games as the saying went. The same can now be said on the PS5.

Concord is almost a repeat of Lawbreakers. A good game that is coming out at the wrong time with the wrong look/feel/advertisement/user sentiment towards live services. It is also coming in under baked and missing features it's competitors have. AND the biggest sin right now is that it's a premium paid for game ($40) rather than F2P. Concord, like Lawbreakers, is a legit good game wrapped in a ton of other problems.
I like the ideas behind it, but it being tied up in the drama of Sony trying to make everything a live service is not doing it favors. What really sucks for Firewalk is they were meant to make this game and it's not other people/studios being pulled off single player projects to make it. But that doesn't mean they won't suffer from the bad press regardless even if it's not fair.
So, yeah, Lawbreakers 2.0. Good game goes to die again.

Concord is perfect display of what Sony became when they moved their Plyastation HQ to California. No more classic Japanese exclusive games, instead we get these lame, politically correct slops.
I am certainly hoping that the Sony weirdness was a result of Jim Ryan's leadership and not others as well. It wasn't just the live service decisions. They done other weird things under his leadership too. However, PlayStation has never known how to do multiplayer focused games well, period. I hope the new leadership do much better by focusing on what they *are* good at, single player focused games.
I also hope Xbox's next generation does well and the Switch 2 or whatever it is called continues to do well for Nintendo. We as gamers will be best served if PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC are all doing well.
The last great sony story driven game I played was Days Gone.

the main problem with games on PC going to Consoles is that u have to downgrade those games cause they would not work smoothly on consoles seens they are weaker than a PC(high End ) and as for Concord even if it was F2P on PC i still think ppl on PC would't want to make an PSN Account and it would still floop but the fact that u have a PSN req a 40$ entry and cutscenes as a side content is bizzare for a Live Service game and the fact that they invest over 50% of their efforts into Live Service is stupid considering the fact that they have no AAA 1st party games as of today and they wanna Launch the PS5 Pro but with what games?cause noone is gonna buy the Pro version with no games

absolutely, they just have to be way better than existing ones. or have to be very different than existing ones. good example of that is sea of thieves and rocket league. fortnite also did something that made it stand out with the building mechanic.
Marvel Rivals closed beta has 12x more players than Concord open beta so I’m guessing it might do okay. The launch roster is bigger and it’s an existing IP too…

I actually really enjoyed Foamstars for a few months (there are dozens of us!), but it should have been free 2 play and multiplatform. However, it was severely kneecapped by the "there can be only one" mentality when the obvious comparisons to Splatoon started, as soon as it was revealed. Splatoon never appealed to me and I really liked the three dimensional nature of the foam, how it transformed the stage, and how matches would swing with the Star Player mechanic. Matchmaking was so spotty until they finally fixed it (too little too late, sadly), and by the time they did, it got stupidly sweaty and developed some impenetrable meta with one of it's updates that added super gem skills, then me and my friend group dropped off the game.
I think Sony should have multiplayer games and more variety. I actually wasn't hating on Concord... but it's slow, bland, DOA af and literally none of my friends will ever buy it. It could have been Twisted Metal years ago instead of Destruction All-Stars. We could have had Factions with a dedicated studio formed to maintain it after Naughty Dog shipped it. Hell, the small Dreams community was waiting YEARS for a multiplayer update... but I guess it didn't pass Bungie's sniff test for addictive monetization potential. If Concord was approved through the same process, then I personally think Bungie was showing preferential treatment towards ex-Bungie friends at Firewalk.

I feel like Sony panicked when Microsoft announced their intent to acquire ABK that they rushed and didn't give enought thought to the live service strategy.
The end result is just like Microsoft started from the beginning. COD will still be available on Playstation. Sure Playstation has lost the marketing and won't get exclusive content, but Playstation gamers don't have to switch consoles.
They already acquired Bungie and that's a solid studio even if overpriced. Otherwise Bungie would likely be re-acquired my Microsoft today. Firewalk studio could have picked up SOCOM and fans would have been dancing in the streets. The rest of the studios could continue to work on games they are passionate about. We are all fatigued from all of these live service games. So now people are selecting a few and just sticking to it.
The live service strategy was in full swing years before the ABK buyout was even announced. God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West etc were all clearly greenlit under Shawn Layden before he was pushed out of the job in 2018 (we know from the Insomniac leaks Spider-Man 2 took 6 years for example). Destruction All Stars, Concord, the cancelled Factions.... THAT'S Jim Ryan's Playstation. It was going to happen regardless of Xbox's ABK purchase. Playstation done dropped the ball. It's as simple as that.
And Days Gone 2 couldnt get green lit. 🤦♂️
It’s not just about this game, all games this gen have been poor. The hardware decisions are laughable. Look at the PiS5, look at the portal, they are comical. The UX is a joke and there’s just no games.

I can understand investing in 2 - 3 live service games but 10 or 12 (forgot the exact number) was a mistake and even people who don't know anything about business knew that. You can't throw all your eggs in one basket and expect everything to be a success. Scatter them out a bit and see what works and what doesn't...Later

Sony hasn’t even revealed a proper roadmap yet. Ghost of Tsushima 2 is inevitable, Naughty Dog is making a new IP, Bend Studio is making a new IP, Santa Monica Studio new IP, Housemarque is new IP, Media Molecule new IP, Bluepoint Games is making something “original” etc. There’s also new Uncharted game in development.

Stellar Blade sold 1 million copies in a month, and I think that’s pretty good for a new IP, from a studio that has never made a AAA game before. Stellar Blade would’ve likely sold more copies, if they priced the game at $50, instead of $70. Most people are not willing to spend $70 on a single player game, unless it’s GTA, or something like that. It’s good to know that you recognize that Astro Bot will be a good game.
Nobody asked for a Spider-Man multiplayer game, and I thought people said they were tired of Insomniac Spider-Man games? If Sony is gonna make a Spider-Man multiplayer game, they should just add a multiplayer mode to Spider-Man 3. I personally rather get a new Resistance Fall of Man game from Insomniac, or a new IP. Wolverine will do just fine, as long as it isn’t “woke”.

Steam players did buy GoT and had exclusive things in that port to PC that Playstation didn't have (forgot what PC port had that Playstation didn't)

Spider Man 2 was supposed to get multiplayer as DLC but it was scrapped which is why people were mad.
As for me owning a PS2 that is true cause after that console I owned GameCube and Xbox 360 then stopped console gaming and played on emulators. Got again during PS4/Xbox One gen and heard you could get emulators in dev mode but not retail. I have Xbox games, yeah and most of them are cross play games, but I'm not a fanboy to defend the corpo.

I always found that the 12 live service game roadmap of PS was a huge mistake. Sure maybe 3 games, but thats it. The rest should have been focussed on .. bringing beloved IP's back and new titles of recent excisting IP's. at least imo.

Spider-Man multiplayer being cancelled had nothing to do with Concord. Those games are made by two completely different studios. I rather Insomniac put all of their focus into making Wolverine as good as possible

No battle passes, all post launch content is free to anybody with the game, so it’s a one and done purchase, all cosmetics are earned in game, and there will be weekly cinematics for those interested in that stuff.
In other words, it’s how every online game should be, instead of continually raping users for money after they purchase a game. It’s how every game should be, period.
If you fail to see what everyone else does then go ahead and buy it, god knows that theyre gonna need players for that game before they close the servers for good.

I want quality games AND I want developers that make good games to enjoy success and not be closed down despite making hits because the conditions under which they had to release their content prohibited them from being financially successful, such as in the case of Tango Gameworks, or in the case of Arkane, where they had a vision for a game and then the vision was compromised because the people funding them wanted to incorporate the games as a service model into what was envisioned as a single player experience, which resulted in a flop and the award winning studio closed down for releasing a flop. Exactly why I allowed my GP sub to expire and I won’t be renewing it and I’ll only be supporting the games that pass the quality bar, and lately there isn’t much to speak of from first party, the last quality title being Hi-Fi Rush.

Yep, Stellar blade was a huge failure and absolutely no one seems to make that correlation with there being 60 million PS5's sold and the game barely broke one million months after release. It just proves that sony muppets only play COD (an xbox first party game now lol), FIFA, NBA2k, Fortnite and madden those are the only games that they play no exclusives in sight.

Stellar Blade is a tricky situation, the game wasn’t originally a PS5 only game, and was claimed to be uncensored even though Sony paid for exclusivity. The day one patch that censored it pretty much just made it not appealing due to the lies. People who were excited for it on Xbox or PC who had it originally announced there never got it, and the platform it released on was a censored version.

It's simple. Sony went into live service games because there's no money in the type of single player games they traditionally make. No margin. They had no choice.
The problem was they don’t know how to make multiplayer games. They only did single player games last generation as well and then they think they can just make live service out their behind. This is something Xbox don’t get enough credit for, they came into the industry excelling in games with both single player and multiplayer, games like that are rare and the fact the most successful ones were under Xbox even before acquisitions proves Xbox hit the lottery
