- Hi everyone! In this video I show you guys how to make "chop" for your birds! Since parrots require fresh vegetables as the main bulk of their diet, making chop in large amounts is a much simpler alternative to cutting up fresh vegetables every day. Measurements don't have to be exact, but the ratio should be about 1:2:3 for seeds/nuts, grains, and vegetables, respectively. The ingredients I used in this batch are:
-100% whole grain brown rice
-cauliflower
-broccoli
-assorted small bell peppers
-green beans
-unsalted almonds
-coconut flakes
-cayenne pepper
-avian calcium supplement
-hemp/chia/flax seeds
My birds go crazy for this combination and I'm sure yours will too! Thanks for watching!

my bird loves it
omg im watching this video with my GCC and he is attacking my ipad screen 🤣🤣🤣
he wants to eat the chop you're preparing.
Hi I loved the video and would like to try it for my iRn parrot. However could you be kind enough and tell me do the veggies give out a foul smell if kept in the open for few hours and does broccoli rot after a while. Cheers!!
It does start to go bad very quickly once you chop them, either freezing them or refrigerating them based on how much you have made is a good idea.
Dose it get mushy after you defrost it ? , is the bird reluctant to eat it if it is ?
My dream bird is a caique
do you cook veg for chop?
Does it work for budgies and cocktails?
yes!
Yes. But in smaller sizes as they have smaller beaks and belly’s. 🥰
My chop goes mushy how do you stop it from going mushy
dry out as much water as possible
Is white rice okay?
You shouldn't use white rice. It is a lot more fatty and doesn't have that much nutrients. I recommend brown rice or wild rice much more.
Rice is high in carbs. Birds cannot digest uncooked rice. Which is why I had birdseed thrown at me at my wedding! 😆 All rice is high in carbs though, even brown, so it could lead to a diabetic bird. No offense to anyone, this is a great video!
@@cindygardner251 All grains are high in carbs, but "high" is a relative term and "high in carbs" is not necessarily a bad thing. Birds *can* digest uncooked rice just fine - they've been doing it for at least hundreds of thousands of years. That myth was probably started by churches because they didn't want people to slip and fall on rice while going down steps or walking on paved sidewalks. Uncooked rice is like marbles on pavement, so it's a liability. Instead, they tried to shift the tradition to throwing bird seed because it makes pavement a lot less slippery to walk on than rice does.
That being said, white rice is white because it has had its outer layers striped off which removes much of its nutrition. That's why white rice is not recommended as bird food. It has nothing to do with a bird's falsely claimed inability to digest it.
can you put bananas in chop
I read that fruits are more like an award for birds and vegatables are needed. Fruits has a lot o sugars so you can’t give it a lot. Correct me if i’m wrong please.
@@ummii586 Add fruit to vegetable chop extra but limit because of sugar intake. I add 1 fruit per day.. All depents on how many birds in my case I have 12 different birds so I add 1 apple... You can any fruit besides sitrus or lemon.. Mine mostly love apple.. 90% Veg seed included, rice even minute noodles... Rice and noodles only a small quantity...
How do u preserve those chops?
If you are feeding your bird seeds then you don't need to give it extra calcium.
