The fact that Lance starts with a Salamence and has other strong Dragons like Garchomp (which isn’t even his ace) waiting in the wings should instill fear in you. It makes up for his kind of easy 1st battle. I’m a perfect world, he would replace that Gyarados with a Kingdra, then this would be a little rough
Fun fact: Since Wayne Grayson still works for the TPCi Dub of the Pokemon Anime, he finally indeed reprised his role as Lance again, this time for the TPCi Dub, kudos to the Dub of Pokemon Journeys The Series and Lisa Ortiz :)

I've just destroyed Lance's team with my Lugia level 72... with only Lugia.... it was thanks to the ancient power that increased his stats, and Lugia just destroyed that Garchomp and the Dragonite. Lugia is just too broken. If you have pokemon heartgold, I really recommend you to catch Lugia before rematch the Elite four.

The battle are more realistic in my opinions, even in the game he talk a lot lol! But here I add my own personal touch.
