  • This s a step by step tutorial of How to make a Faux Coral Backdrop. It is very easy to make and the end result is stunning. It really looks like Coral. It is also fun to make.
Once you have put your foam on start putting the sand on. Make sure the sand is DAMP. If you want big formations used a lot of sand if you want small indentations use less sand. I placed extra sand on every time the foam started coming through the sand, which creates the large bumps and the coral look, Once everything was dry I painted it . When painting make sure you cover it completley as it disintigrates over time when expossed to sun.

Hi Thank you for watching .If you put it on polystyrene as the backing it will be strong enough and look amazing. Don’t forget to use damp sand as it gives it make the foam look more like coral like the one in my video. It works extremely well on wood as well small tip don’t try doing it up right must be flat on the floor. I am so excited for you I think your Bar will look absolutely amazing 😊Good luck please let me know how it goes Cheers

wow nice. I have a property in mid Florida with tons of white sand I want to use as a building material. I wonder how rigid and durable the final product is? Is it squishy? Can it withstand years of hot tropical sun, rain and wind? Thanks.

      Thank you so much
I live in quite a hot and rainy part of Australia in Queensland So it does take a beating, what with cyclones and heavy rain, mine has been up quit a while,as to how long it lasts I think 5 years is a good guess. It is not squishy it is quite hard. Most importantly you must PAINT it thoroughly because any of the foam that is exposed will crumble and turn orange. Please remember when you are making it you MUST use DAMP sand or you will not get a nice effect Hope this helps and good luck it is such fun to make Thank you for watching 🥰

Did you wait any amount of time between the spray foaming and the sand dropping? I just did the same thing but immediately put the sand on and it came out terrible.

Hi I put the sand on right away after I sprayed the foam but as I said in the video you must use damp sand and as the foam starts coming through the sand I added more on top as I wanted a very rough finish to mine. If you only put a little on the result is not as nice plus I strayed the foam quite thick so it would raise nicely and be dense enough to hold the sand without collapsing In some places I did not have enough sand and the texture is not so nice Also I did smallish areas at a time so I could reuse the sand So sorry to hear yours did not turn out well 😞
