I haven't heard that, but I wouldn't be surprised. One thing I know, is that thru almost 20 years of recording heavy shit, whenever I went to a studio, the producers/engineer always asked us to use either a Les Paul or an SG. They're pure tone machines.

st. anger was a decent and very good album maybe not for metallica but you gotta admit that a lot of these songs are catchy so be honest to yourselves ya know i think that if they remade this album with solo's and a snare would be pretty awesome. ps. this song is pretty haunting and scary the intro is awesome with the bass and the drums beat
Actually, I think this album was a good thing for the band. No, it isn't their best work by far, but it showed the world that these guys were still extremely pissed off, and that they could still demolish you in any way the want to even if that means using "Nu-Metalesque" riff rock where it is just a relentless attack of speed and raw power like this album was. I say great move guys, they made their point extremely well.
Metallica need a change after Anger album, Bob was with them since the Black era and they hired Rick Rubin to make with them Death Magnetic. Thats why the new album has good sound and old style, Rick told them to think as they were young, it worked ^^
I HATE how everyone says Lars is a bad drummer!!! Dx i mean.. whenever i ask them why they just say "Cuz he sucks" No, he's not a technical genious like Mike Portnoy or Mike Magini or Neal Peart or any of the other gods of drums but he's not bad at all!!
