  • What do you get when you cross a Chevy Camaro, Cadillac ATS Coupé and a Corvette Stingray? The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS. While some mix-and-match designs result in abject failure, this combo creates a Camaro SS that can dance with the M4 for about 1/2 the price.

      Saabkyle's videos are very well shot and produced, but I wouldn't consider them traditional review. It's more of a detailed overview, as he rarely critiques any of the vehicles he films. Nonetheless, I enjoy his enthusiasm. Thanks to him, people who don't have boat loads of money can still appreciate a wide variety of vehicles.

      Gambit I would say that but the price point isn't warranted. If Camaro was at the price point of the Mustang GT, it would be a must buy but sense it's in the 40,000 dollar range, it really kills it. Hopefully they bring the price down.

      it's more car, though. Faster, better brakes, better interior. Comes with trans and diff cooler. When you look at head to head comparisons on tracks, straight line and figure 8 - the Camaro stomps the mustang.

    so it has better standard equipment than the mustang (to get the same on the stang you have to option the perf pack, tech pack, and wheel pack) its lighter, faster, has more leather and aluminium used in the interior, and its compared more to the GT350 than the GT, looks like a winner.

      light strip areas being made of aluminium, also the cup holder strip and around the shiftier. then leather on the majority of the front dash, knee pads, elbow pads, upper doors panel and mid. looks nice.

      Zuriel Briones well, unfortunately both the mustang and Challenger are the same right in the center being harder touch. though the camaro does offer more soft touch points compared to the mustang and challenger with the camro having leather on the majority of the front dash, knee pads, elbow pads, upper doors panel and mid door panels.

    So I'm a Ford Mustang (2015 GT Performance Pack) owner here - if the 2016 model had been out during my purchase it would have been a lot tougher choice. On paper the Camaro is much better performance wise but as a daily driven car my Mustang still is arguably a bit better.... It's really hard to go wrong with either of these or the Challenger or (if the money is there) the M4.... Great review!

    Good review. since you asked, I think this car looks best in silver and from the side profile. I wish gm made the front more buick avista and less cartoon nascar. The rear is also boring, but I think it could be fixed with an updated bumper and dark accent tail lights like the new challengers. though I think the new mustang exterior aesthetics are more pleasing, I would still get the camaro due to the superior driving dynamics and the sound it makes.

    I heard this first year Camaro has had some issues which include transmission overheating (not the only manufacturer that has had this issue), and seat quality issues. Quite a few owners have complained about their seats failing at 2000k mileage which I find interesting because it is usually the engine and powertrain that people have issues with.

    • @cadsux
      @cadsux 8 лет назад

      +Victor W I guess that's what happens when you combine 3 different cars. The previous gen Camaro had average reliability, but the ATS and the lovely Corvette, were both below average, according to Consumer Reports.

    • @mountainhobo
      @mountainhobo 8 лет назад +12

      +Victor W "complained about their seats failing at 2000k mileage" -- If they're complaining about seats developing problems at 2 million miles, they're a bit picky.

    • @victorw5796
      @victorw5796 8 лет назад

      What I mean is the seats were coming off the track so driving was unsafe. It wasn't criticizing the comfort. Most likely it is a first year issue and I'm sure it will be fixed by next year. An amazing car in my opinion nonetheless.

    I don't understand your rating of "cabin noise". It's a sports car, and the one you test drove likely had the performance exhaust option based on how loud you say it was. People who buy Camaros with that option WANT to hear the loud motor. If you're rating NVH, you should ignore the engine/exhaust noise, and only assess wind noise, tire noise, etc.

    sigh the small block comment, look the 6.2L is lighter than the 5.0 AND more compact than the 5.0 and it gets similar MPG to the 5.0 JUST BECAUSE THE DISPLACEMENT IS HIGH does not mean the engine is "HUGE" like you made it out to be. look at GM's LS7 its 7.0L but its lighter AND SMALLER than fords ecoboost V6 and even their voodoo 5.2L found in the GT350
    please, dont miss lead people, its a small block along with a push rod design that makes it more comparable in size and weight to most V6's only reason you see weight being higher is due to more cooling required and larger brakes.

    • @clovisthefirst492
      @clovisthefirst492 8 лет назад

      +john learoux true

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 лет назад +8

      +john learoux The simple fact is that a 6.2L V8 is enormous by modern standards. That said, I'm not sure why you take that as a negative? Did I ever say anything disparaging about it? No, I most certainly did not. It sounds great, is more efficient than Chrysler's 6.4L engine and as I note it nearly matches the 5.2L from the Mustang. All I said is that it's hilarious that we still refer to a 6.2L V8 as a "small block" when it is bigger than more than 90% of all the engines sold in America.
      As far as weight goes, the 6.2 has shed weight, but it is still 33% heavier than the most popular V6 engines. The only V6s that would be close would be either large pushrod V6s or twin-turbo units if you add all the turbo accessories and intercoolers together. However remember that turbo 6 designs can distribute the weight a little differently.
      That said, I have no problem with the 6.2L engine and if you watch the whole video then that would be 100% clear.

    • @johnlearoux
      @johnlearoux 8 лет назад +7

      +Alex on Autos i explained why the V8 is heavier, you get a larger/heavier duty suspension on the SS, larger brakes (more weight on the front especially), and more cooling (more weight on the front especially) thats where the extra weight comes in, also the LT1 is lighter than the Cadillac TTV6 and fords ecoboost V6.
      you seem to have missed the real reason why its heavier.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 лет назад +5

      +john learoux I'm still baffled about this conversation. You seem under the mistaken impression that I have an issue with the 6.2L V8 or the general design and I do not.
      As far as weight goes, the Ford official spec on most versions of the 3.5L Ecoboost is 417lbs and GM offers a range for the 6.2L LT1 which is 403-466, so the weight is either comparable or heavier.
      I completely understand the reasons for suspension changes, but again, this still baffles me since in the video I comment that the Camaro SS is very light for this category. At no point do I imply the Camaro is in any way heavy.

    • @johnlearoux

      *no need to be baffled im not mentioning this because i think you dislike the 6.2L or im "attacking you"* im mentioning this because i know the ford fans will flood in and say "only that much power with THAT BIG OF AN ENGINE" im not arguing that you're saying the camaro is heavy (after all you did not say that), just that the 6.2L is lighter and more compact than its competitors (the hemi 6.4 and mustang 5.0)
      the time of telling an engines size, weight, or power based of liter size is past, with turbos, new drive train technologies, and engine designs making it ever harder to tell anything about an engine. well with out knowing about the engine explicitly (block, cams, ect)
      so to clarify, im not saying you think the camaro is heavy (never meant to give that impression off), im not saying this to attack or be mean to you (i actually just subbed i like your channel), and lastly its mostly for the people who come in and say "WOW SUCH A MASSIVE ENGINE AND THATS ALL THE POWER IT MAKES" to show them why its not making some astronomical power figure is due to its weight, compact size, and engine design. :) thats all.

      +david hoffman I don't sell them and I don't make any money off you buying them, but you can get the same on the Logo Wear site that I use: www.logosoftwear.com/shops/AlexOnAutos There you can get AoA gear but 100% of the cash goes to that company, not me.

      +Gabriel Choi You can get them here: www.logosoftwear.com/shops/AlexOnAutos However I don't make any money off them, that site just allows you to buy embroidered and print logowear. I've thought of it but it seems kind of expensive for small run stuff.

    Alex, nobody will opt for the automatic just because it is a second or two quicker than the manual. We don't race every where we go, people who like rowing their own gears and don't cry over a gallon of gas will opt for the manual. People who do not like shifting gears and/or care about a gallon or two of gas saved will opt for the automatic. It is as simple as that, me I'm a manual guy.

      You'd be surprised, Chevy says that acceleration is one of the main reasons given for choosing the auto in this car. Go figure.

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 8 лет назад +1

      +Frank Zhang (FrankInRage) well he said he likes it more than the gt350 (or eluded to it)

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 лет назад

      +Frank Zhang (FrankInRage) It depends on what you're after. Personally I might buy a Challenger SRT over the Camaro for the trunk, back seat and more comfortable front seat. It's not a better car, but it's personally a better fit for me. If you're thinking objective ratings centering on performance then it is obviously Camaro SS in the lead position.

      Alex on Autos Maybe I should ask the question another way. What should I expect from the cars I listed

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 лет назад

      +Frank Zhang (FrankInRage) The Camaro is smaller and more nimble, faster and probably more efficient in general terms. The Dodge is softer, has a better highway ride and a big trunk. The Mustang is between, not as sharp as the Camaro, not as efficient but less expensive.

      +Alex on Autos Interesting... it's like 3 driving modes: Comfort (Challenger), Normal (Mustang) and Sport (Camaro). Add Track mode to the crazier versions of these (Hellcat, GT350/R and ZL1/Z28)!

    In my mind, the Camaro physically works only when one has seen the Transformer movies and toys. See those and it makes since. Don't see em and I personally end up wondering what the car is meant for other than "look at me - wheee!" I did see a Motor Trend test drive the Camaro when it finally overtook the Mustang in MT's ratings. MT also tested the new Vette in that test and I could see the Camaro set down on a very strange curve at Laguna Seca. And it turned out Randy Probst, MT's professional driver stated the Camaro out did the Mustang and Vette in that road test some years back. So, it's a serious road racer with serious visibility issues.
