Can't wait to try your recipe! I have many fond memories of visiting my snowbird parents on the Gulf Coast of Alabama and enjoying many Mardi Gras parades and king cakes!
I was born and raised in New Orleans Gert town. Never had a recipe for the cake. Thanks so much for bringing a touch of home to me in Decatur, Georgia 😍
Thanks for your recipe Charlie ….made it yesterday came out like a Danish Coffee cake delicious... I had almond flour so I made the filling just like yours but added almond extract and a little more butter to make it moist…sorry I can’t show you a picture of it it is spectacular. Posting your link on my Pinterest.
Finding this video and following your recipe literally saved my life!! I was following someone else’s recipe and it went completely wrong even though I followed all of the directions properly, yours worked beautifully already and I am currently only doing the second proving
Hey Charlie just started watching RUclips a year ago and found your Channel it made me feel so proud to see my people from back home sharing our culture a lot of stuff I forgot how to make but you are reteaching me so thank you Charlie keep going your thing God bless
hey Charlie, again, let me tell you, WOW, WOW and WOW. My friend is going to make your King Cake for her friend for her friends birthday because I raved so much about it. I saw your you tube regarding the Thanksgiving you had to cook soo much and how tired you were. BRAVO, you did a great job and you remind me of me, doing for others an doing because you enjoy it and you do it well. Now I can't wait to make your pecan pie and your sweet potato pie. I am making another King Cake on Thursday very early for my younger son. Again, everyone loved your King Cake, so THANK YOU VERY MUCH! God Bless You, Violet (I would send you a heart and hug emoji but I don't know how)
Hello Violet. Happy to hear that everyone enjoyed the King cake and that other people will try the recipe now. Yes the Thanksgiving video was a lot of work. Let me know how the pies turns out. You're welcome, not a problem. Glad I was able to help. Thanks for leaving feedback! :)
This has been a tradition for my daughter and I for the last 5 years. Thank-you so much for that. This year I forgot to get vanilla extract and did 4cups of confectioners sugar ,3 tablespoons of melted butter ,1 teaspoon of almond extract and 1 teaspoon of butter extract. Came out as great as always even with my impromptu icing.
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve recently moved to south Florida and no one celebrates or gathers or even acknowledges this time of year. 😭 I’ve called all the bakeries I can find and no one knows what I’m even talking about, but a hand full of head bakers have given me a huge attitude because they think I’m asking for a “all kings day” cake and that I’m just confused. SO this is the first year I’ll be making my own. (Silver lining: I will gain a new skill) I’m so happy I found your video because I’m not a big bread maker so I needed the “for dummies” version. I think you do a good job of explaining the little things that some of the recipes skipped over in assumption that if you’re making this, you already know those things. I hope you’re having a wonderful carnival! 🎉🥁🎷
You're welcome Jade! Oh yeah No one else out side the New Orleans area knows about the king cakes. I know in other countries they have king cakes but it's very different from our king cake. Thank you so much for the compliments! Much appreciated!
Hi Charlie! Your King Cake recipe is delicious and moist. I baked one for my client and her family, and I received multiple compliments. I'm politely handing those compliments to you. Great post! You are adored here in San Antonio, TX! Here's a pic of the results.
+Leslie De Carlo Heyy there! Thank you soo much for your feedback i really appreciate it! Happy to hear that the people that you made this king cake for said it was good! Thanks again for leaving the feedback and sharing the compliments! :)
He sounds like Bobby Boucher from the movie The Water Boy . That cake look so good. Here in Cali I have never heard of this or have i ever had it. But i am going to make this.
Omgoodness!!! I watched 10 videos.. yours is hands down the BEST ONE!! Especially for beginners!!!❤ soooo AWESOME!! I can’t wait to do this!! Tomorrow’s my husbands Birthday 😃
Hi Charlie, I just finished making your King cake. I made many recipes years ago and they were mostly bad. You gave me hope and so far it looks and smells excellent. I am taking it as one of the many deserts I have made for my grandsons birthday and I am so happy that I think it may be a hit. Thank you so much. Later this week I am going to make your King pound cake and try your other recipes. I watched your you tube over and over again and you are great. You are a wonderful teacher and I look forward to telling my friends about you. Thank you and I send you a big hug from California, Violet
Hey Violet. Happy to hear that the King cake was a success and that you'll be trying more recipes soon. You're welcome, not a problem. I appreciate you for letting others know about my channel. Thanks for leaving feedback!
Perfect recipe! I just moved back to NOLA and was looking for something to impress my NE friends when they visit. Totally going to watch all your videos now. You have a great, warm energy, I can tell you love what you are doing, and you are very much so darn adorable, ha.
Thank you so much for sharing this!!! My husband and I currently live in TN, but we were both born in LA. It is expensive to have king cakes shipped here, and the local offerings are extremely subpar. Your video gave me the confidence to try it on my own. You were so thorough that I was able to easily follow along and the resulting king cake was absolutely delicious!!!
You're welcome, not a problem! Yes, shipping of King cakes is expensive! Happy to hear that this video gave you the confidence to try this recipe and that it was successful. Thanks so much for leaving feedback! :)
Charlie! Thank you so much for sharing your recipe with us! I just moved to New York (originally from South Louisiana - Lafourche). Since Twelfth Night is approaching, I will be making (for the first time) a king cake to share with my New York friends. Your video gives me hope that I can actually make this happen! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, talents, and kindness! :)
It’s interesting to see how much better you’ve gotten at the technical side of making these videos. Your content has always been good, but your delivery has definitely gotten a lot better.

Thank you so much for this video!!!! I'm not always home during the carnival season to get a good kings cake. I used to order them online but now I can make it myself and I'm sure yours is soooooo much better and from scratch! I tried a box mix once and it was nasty! You are a gem!
You are too cute! Thank you for your video. I needed help with the braiding and you came to my rescue. :) Wish I could have seen the inside of your beautiful cake once sliced. yum yum
Man! I been making my own king cakes for a few years na, but this video was an absolute pleasure to watch. Your instructions were clear, detailed and expertly delivered. Keep up the great work! WHO DAT SAY!!! #westbank4life
I gotta hand it to you - looks good Charlie! I might brush butter on it right after it comes out of the oven and then ice it. Gonna give it a try! Thanks kind sir.
This is a wonderful video! You explain everything so well, I love the detail. I live in Mid-Missouri and have been desperate to celebrate with a King Cake and couldn’t find one anywhere! I’ll be making this over the weekend!
Is this a cake that has more of a pastry texture, than a 'regular' cake. I've obviously never had the pleasure of enjoying a King Cake, but was curious about it. I think I would really love the Debarge cake. OMG...they look amazing! Please Charlie, make one!!!
This king cake has more of a bread like texture. It's still good though! Yes the Doberge cake sounds wonderful. I may give the recipe a try soon. It'll be a great addition to my channel. ☺
I was amazed how good this is. I did notice the way you did it on this video you included the eggs on your website you have the eggs in the ingredients but never say when to use them. so I did it both ways. they are both very good but the egg in the dough makes for a fluffier finished product. great job and will definitely be making many more.
Wow Thank you for making me aware of the mistake and will be correcting it shortly! Glad that the king cake turned out good! Thanks for leaving feedback!
Sooooo happy to see you back, Charlie. 😄😄😄 You are a BADDD dude! I don't even like king cake b/c it just taste like sugary dough to me but looking at this video it made my mouth water. I'll bet yours is better than Gambino's, Randazzo's McKenzie's and all the other N.O. bakeries, lol. Do you sell cakes in N.O. or is it just a hobby and you only make them for family and friends? What about 7 up cake, pralines, beignets, chess cake (oowie gooey)? Do you make any of those?
nf094e Thank you Thank you Thank you! :) I'm going to say maybe for Gambino's and Mc Kenzies. As far as Randazzo's goes. I don't think so lol Still have some work to do lol You know they are like King cake masters. Yes I do sell cakes! Today I just made two 7up cakes. I'm working on pralines and beignets and oowie gooey! Yes I make birthday cakes too!
Charlie, can you come to Atlanta and help me teach these poor Georgia folks some Louisiana culture?! I'm from the northeast part of Louisiana, but I haven't forgotten my roots or how to cook! I'm making my first of three cakes today to share with friends this weekend. Thanks for sharing your recipe and recommendation to let the ingredients come to room temperature first. You made a great video!
I wish I could come to Atlanta and show'em how we do our thang down in New Orleans lol Ohh okay cool. Hope the cakes come out good! You're welcome! I do the best I can! Thank you!
This recipe rocks!!! I was scared to attempt this with gluten-free flour (with a little added xanthan gum), but it’s delicious. So happy it came out :) Thank you, Charlie “the Cook” Andrews!!!
Charlie, this is great. My quilt guild is during a Mardi Gras theme next month, Do you think you can make an authentic muffaletta, they don't have King Cake and muffaletta in Baltimore.
Mr. Charlie, can I add the little baby to this cake? If so, do you recommend adding him after it's baked and push him up through the bottom of the cake?
Hello friend.. I’m making my cake right now. I’m in the process of the first two hours of sitting in the bowl… is it absolutely necessary to after you braid it do you have to let it sit two more hours do you have to really do that or can you just cook it after the 2 hours??
I’m so glad I stumbled upon your RUclips I was looking for ooey gooey cake recipes but this helps because now I want to try and tackle this king cake! My boyfriends Mama is from LA and I’ve impressed her with my cooking thus far so I think it’s time to try something up her alley lol 😂 show out a little more
Awesome that sounds good. I have newer version of King Cake. Link is below. That's cool. Let me how it turns out. Thanks! ruclips.net/video/qcE7UEwvHrk/видео.html
Hi Charlie! I'm curious about the temperature of the water when adding yeast. I hear very warm....but that leaves alot of room for error. Can you help? Thanks a loaf :)

+gildrop Thanks so much for subscribing my fellow Louisiana native! I'm glad that you found me and hope that you continue to enjoy all of my videos! Thanks again!
I have been bing watching your videos I am so glad I came cross your videos. Question I've never had king cake but I've heard of king cakes is it true that a baby figurine is baked in some.
I am happy to hear that you are enjoying my videos! I don't know about adding the baby while the cake is baking as the baby is made of plastic and can melt. Normally people will add the baby after the cake has been baked.
Charlie Andrews I sent you a message via messenger about a cake originated in Louisiana can you answer my question when you have time please. Thank you
@@CharlieTheCookAndrews Made it using vegetable oil in place of Butter extract. My friends adored it!! Thank you...next time, I will use more vanilla. You are the best!!!
+Lisa Banks Awesome! Let me know the results when you're done! :) Quick tip! When you bake your king cake bake it at 330 degrees instead of 350 degrees! :)
I wish you cut a piece and tasted it so I could see the textures and colors of it inside. But it was a great tutorial, and you were very descriptive and pleasant to watch.
+Charlie “The Cook” Andrews Ok well me and my family sure wouldn't mind supporting you seeing that you make these wonderful detailed videos! How do we contact you

I watched this thinking to make it for Mardi Gras 2021 Feb 16th. Shoot, Nope! Way too much work. I'll buy one from you. 😁
Wow that's cool Nancy. That's understandable. That's good to hear.
Thank you
Okay gotcha!
Charlie if I don´t have imitation butter for the icing what can I add?
Omit the butter extract and use vanilla.
@@CharlieTheCookAndrews Made it using vegetable oil in place of Butter extract. My friends adored it!! Thank you...next time, I will use more vanilla. You are the best!!!
Love that red chef hat! You are too cute!!!
JensVitality Thanks!!!! :D

Not at all.
@@CharlieTheCookAndrews Thanks so much! I made a King Cake from these exact ingredients and it came out perfect! Took me back to my childhood❤️

Not a problem!
I will be doing this soon.
+Lisa Banks Awesome! Let me know the results when you're done! :) Quick tip! When you bake your king cake bake it at 330 degrees instead of 350 degrees! :)
OK will do thank u so much
+Lisa Banks You're Welcome!
I can do this without the stand mixer right?
Yes you can!
So this is like a sweet bread. Luv it! I suppose it wouldn't be a king cake if I added cream cheese to the frosting mix?
Yes something like that lol Thanks! Great idea. Yes you can add creamcheese to the frosting!

+Naomi And The Crew Ohhh okay cool. Where you order your kingcakes?

I wish you cut a piece and tasted it so I could see the textures and colors of it inside. But it was a great tutorial, and you were very descriptive and pleasant to watch.
