I've been riding on the street for 37 years, I've owned almost 40 motorcycles over that time. I test drove one of the CB650r's and I have to tell you, even though it might be beginner-friendly oh, it's not just a beginner's bike. That is one of the better machines I've ever ridden. Hey yammie daddy, maybe pause the lovely background music when you do the startup soundcheck. It's hard to hear the sweet sounds of that 4-cyl with the piano going.
Really nice hearing the 650cc four cylinder exhaust note. With twins, I'm so much more aware of being able to hear each and every cylinder fire. A four transitions over into sounding so much smoother and quieter. Far, far less fatiguing when spending full days in the saddle.
when I brought my Africa Twin to the shop for service, they had a CB650R as a loaner sitting there for me. Coming from the CRF1000L, getting onto this small bike was strange. I felt like my eyes were almost directly over the front wheel. I had her for two days and put about 150 miles on her before I had to return her and pick up my CRF again. Two weeks later I was back at the dealership and bought it. It's so different from the Africa Twin that it's really a great addition to the garage. Every day now, I wonder which bike I'll take. The CB650R is certainly a hoot to drive, I find myself laughing a lot when riding it. Recently, the Honda dealership gave me a CB1000R for two days (why was the bike at the dealership? wait for it!) and I drove that for two days. Yeah, the 145hp are a whole lot quicker than the 95hp, but also a lot less easy to ride. The whole bike feels a lot more like a heap of metal than the 650. When I got the 650 back, the seriousness fell off and I was purely enjoying riding it. Now, the reason it was at the dealership was what I would suggest you as the first mod too: I got the quickshifter fitted. Here in Europe, you get a quickshifter for ~200€ plus fitting. It's so worth it! You do want it. Just open the tabs and kick through the gears without letting off even once. It's the single best thing you can do to the bike.
Hello, do you feel you enjoy the CB650R the way you do since you already own a somewhat bigger big (the Africa Twin)? If you were to have just one bike, would you feel the CB650R a tad under powered? I have an MT-07 and feel it is under powered for my kind of riding here in Canada with some highway riding. I'm considering the CB650R as my next bike but fear I'd quickly get to the same feeling I have with my MT07. Not that I'm considering the CB1000r as the alternative since I still like to be able to push the bike, rather than fear it. The alternatives would be in the 110-130 hp range. Thanks..
@@samerr.9081 so .. I guess it depends on what you want. MOTORRAD, the largest German Motorbike journal has tested the 650R in the alps against the Kawasaki Z900, Aprilia Shiver 900 and Triumph Street Triple S660. In this group, they found the CB650R to be the weakest of the four bikes, mainly because she is rather loud (which she is, especially for a Honda) and she lacks low end punch (well, no wonder, up against a 900cc twin, a same displacement triple and a 900cc four). You need to keep her happy, that is, at 6000rpm or higher and you'll probably want to change gears at 11000-11500rpm. The fun in the CB650R, to me, is not in pure power. She's quick enough to get in trouble, easily, but she's no monster. The fun is in that she handles totally easy. She's a great buddy to ride. The CB1000R is an entirely different beast. That one has lots more low end torque and 50hp more at the top. If pure power is what you're after, that's what you should look at (or an FZ09 or a Street /Speed Triple or or or) - the CB650R, is all about going out and have some good fun. Would I have her as my only bike? That's a different questions. So for day tours about 300-400km, I do, by now, prefer the CB650 over the Africa Twin, because she's such a nice ride. For long rides, I absolutely prefer the Africa Twin as she's so much more comfortable on long trips, carries a lot more load (I think the 650 has less than 160kg of useable load) and has decent wind protection and an upright seating position. Maybe the kilometers travelled per bike is an indication: on the Africa Twin, I did pretty much exactly 10000km this season. On the CB650 I did about 3500. That shows the very different profiles. Hope that helps.

Yammie, great review, I've recently got back into riding and after a lot of deliberation I got a low mileage (3000 miles) 2016 model CB650F with ABS - fantastic value for money. Looks great and has plenty of grunt, no-one mentions the Pairs system which is the only gripe I've got, makes it sound like a bag of nails on tickover. The snappy throttle you get used too, just have to learn to curb your enthusiasm. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the review, I went ahead and bought this bike TODAY (2019 red color brand new). I will take possession of the bike on Thursday Sept 3rd next week and I can’t wait to do my first ride...I’m super exited :)
I'm retiring in a few months, just bought a Z400 to sort of go back to basics and learn solid skills (took the MSF ARC, doing a lot of parking lot drills). I bought it knowing I'd keep it for a year or two then trade it, and pick up what would hopefully be a forever bike, The CB650R is a solid contender. I was thinking SV650 or MT-07, I was leaning SV650 because of the looks but now I think the Honda looks better.
Just went to the 2021 CB-650R from my Re-beginner bike (I’m 42 starting again) which was a Kawi Z400 (GREAT BEGINNER OR RE-BEGINNER). Just one trip around the neighborhood and I know I’ll have to spend a few days getting used to the power in this thing. Consider this when you’re looking: there’s truth in having something to stay out of trouble, there’s wisdom in having enough grunt to get you OUT of trouble. The CB-650 does this well. As long as you have a steady hand and the sense to know when to let the throttle go, just mind the clutch, don’t be stupid, and you’ll be fine.
I want to throw my hat in the ring as to the appeal of this bike. It fit's my needs being both lighter weight and reasonably responsive. With a smooth operating 650 -4, it seems both capable and comfortable which I find more satisfying on longer rides. Also, I'm very glad that Honda has produced a middle weight bike that doesn't need to be ridden in HIGHWAY ATTACK POSITION harboring insane amounts of power. Some of us no longer feel the need to prove anything on two wheels.
Well this is my dream bike, it have all of futures that i've dream of! ABS, gear indicator, upside down fork and it is a HOOOOONDAAAA! I will fly right to U.S. from the end of the worls for this one give away!
Thank you so much for doing this video!! I’ve been watching this bike for the LONGEST TIME! Can you ask your friends at Honda HQ if we’ll be getting a silver or black gloss paint job this model?? ;) Right on man! P.S. sick intro too
Hey @YammieNoob I've watched most of your vids with this bike. How about some night riding thoughts? How does the headlight do, nice and bright, good light pattern?
hey yam. should i buy this instead of the mt09 for daily commute? i feel like mt09 is a bit less relax to ride normal bcos of its power & jerky throttle.
It really seems like Honda has gotten a perfect balance on this bike. With a fit and finish to rival a BMW. Seems like it would just be a great bike to just do hundreds of miles of twisty backroads in a ride.
I really like this bike's aesthetics. I'm taking my MSF this August and planning to buy a CB300r (or MT-03) as my "1st bike for baby." Once I'm experienced enough to ditch the training wheels, I want to get one of these, with the 2020/2021 black tank cover.

Where's the link to download the pupper playlist that distracted me from listening to the QandA? Agreed though, it's a beautiful bike. I'm debating grabbing one or jumping to the 1000 next.
All right yammy I'm glad that you finally took a ride on the ninja, but in regards to the CB650 I wonder how and if you can compare it to the Harley-Davidson Street 500 or 750. I guess the real question iscan you compare them and would you consider them to be of a similar style or class?
Love this bike. It’s gonna be my next purchase to add to my garage. I’m partial to triumphs and Hondas. Triumph for fit and finish and Honda for reliability 😎🌴
Beginner Rider, absolutely zero riding experience but I’m 27, 6’3 and 240 lbs. After passing my CMSP, do you think this would be a bike I would be able to handle and grow with at my size frame for a first timer?

hey Yammie Jammie, I hope you can get a chance to answer a question about this bike for me, I haven't had a chance to have a sit on one yet because I cant find one close to me. but I was hoping you could let me know how aggressive the seating position feels and overall if you had to go a couple hundred miles on it in a day could you?,
It really harkens back to the original 70's CB super sports with that exhaust. I am already thinking of another bike to add to my growing stable. 🤔 this would be so nice.
The CBR650F was my first bike and I think it was great. Not too much power and fast enough to be fast. I was experienced with riding dirt bikes when I was little so I felt confident I wasn’t going to drop it but I’d recommend putting crash protection on any new bike. I’d also recommend getting the MT-09 over this bike any day. Same price but: made in Japan, better suspension, way more power and you have power modes. Put crash protection on it so you don’t cry when you drop it.
how is the bike in a really slow moving traffic? esp for a beginner, i just had my license, passed my Learners, to be honest < 50 hrs riding, only rode a bike for a week practice and exams. me asking is because im eyeing a 2nd hand same specd and year bike. quite anxious to get but i would love to have it
When you had the bike did you ever have mirror issues? I want to keep the stock mirrors for now, lest I be forced to remove the weights, which I do not want to do. As honda brilliantly designed the reverse opposing threads on the mirror, it keeps coming loose. I have since put on a ton of plumbers tape to tighten, but as the bolts are opposing they loosen themselves. Just want to see if this is a relatively common issue on this bike
how does this compare to the Yamaha xsr700? I know that the xsr700 is similar to the fz-07 since its essentially built on the same platform. I was looking at the xsr700 and 900, I felt like the 900 would likely be too much for a less experienced individual such as myself, but I weigh a good amount and I don't want to be bogged down just because I'm a bit chunky. this looks like a good middle ground and it looks beautiful. I figure if I hit the gym and lose some weight ill get a gradual weight reduction as I get more comfortable on it lol
I would love to have any of those bikes, especially the Honda CB650R. Oh yeah I am not a beginner rider. I've been riding since 1964. But I have never ridden a sport bike.

@Mike's Bike's bruh have you not seen the Ducati Panigale V2?
I bought one for me, rider for 36 years, and one for my son, a newbeginner. Fits all! It really is a wellmade and wellperforming bike.
So obviously you think it is safe enough for a beginner?
@@Kilo_of_Milk My son starts out with A2 license so only 48bhp. But in general, yes it's a bike easy to "read" and ride.
@@johnDukemaster cool, 48bhp sounds more manageable, I am a complete newbie, have not gotten my license yet but I love the look of this bike and the reviews sound good. I have a friend saying to get the Yamaha R3 but I'm not so sure. I want something I will be happy to ride more long term.
@@Kilo_of_Milk Well it is a strong bike. But it's well performing, smooth engine with no surprises when opening the throttle. Stay away from the MT03. That will be boring after a few months. The CB650R is a keeper. Just leaarn the bike, how and when to brake and then learn to open the throttle. Then you'll have a friend for many years to come.
Great video and bike, thank you!
The Honda CB650R is my favorite bike of all those chosen so far. I love the way it looks and appears to perform during your ride. It should be a great bike for a beginner or a returning rider. It will look even better with me sitting on it...
Nice riding, precise steering inputs and light grabbing of the handle bars
Yammie: in a class of its own! Motorcycle industry: middle weight naked bikes is one the most crowded genres.
The faired CBR version is in a class of its own. The naked is not alone as most are still much more road friendly than their faired counterparts.
Had one of these for 3 months now as my first bike. Definitely an amazing bike and in my case, also perfect for a beginner
Hey man sorry for such a late response but after your experience do you still think it’s an okay beginner bike?
@@joeschmoe2697 its for sure a great beginner bike. In my opinion its very "expensive" and might not be fitted for first bike, but sure its a very good 2nd bike if you want a bike for the long run.
i had this bike when i took my driving lessons. the first time i drove it i got so excited. i think i was pretty blessed to drive it. first bike ever i had the pleasure to. ride on
Man I really like the look of that Honda line from the 125 to the cb 1000r it is a totally cool look.
I just bought one...cannot wait to pick it up!!!!
Ive got a 2016 cbr650r. First year it was available in the us. I do love it. It was my upgrade from the cb500f. My first bike. The reason I went for it was the 4 cylinder. Its unique in the 650 size.
Im saving my pennies to one day own this bike .... Thank you for the video Yammie
I have no bike til now, love this.
I just saw one yesterday for the first time, before watching this video. I was surprised was a nice bike it was. really good looking bike.
Thank you for the review, I went ahead and bought this bike TODAY (2019 red color brand new). I will take possession of the bike on Thursday Sept 3rd next week and I can’t wait to do my first ride...I’m super exited :)
How do you like it?
Love it ;)
@@HassanAnge have fun ride safe and take good care of it
I'm retiring in a few months, just bought a Z400 to sort of go back to basics and learn solid skills (took the MSF ARC, doing a lot of parking lot drills). I bought it knowing I'd keep it for a year or two then trade it, and pick up what would hopefully be a forever bike, The CB650R is a solid contender. I was thinking SV650 or MT-07, I was leaning SV650 because of the looks but now I think the Honda looks better.
This is definitely the bike for me! ❤️😱😱😱 you convinced me!
64 years old,owned 500 four,2F4l,VF500 V4,V,FR 800,CBR 1000 RR Hondas and now CB650R by choice.Your lucky to straddle it,much less find one.
As long as you have a steady hand and the sense to know when to let the throttle go, just mind the clutch, don’t be stupid, and you’ll be fine.
this bike really mesmerizes me...dreaming to own one. 🙏
I've been looking at its faired sibling, the CBR650R as my next bike. Glad to see you like it!
Ayy supcom fan.
Exactly why I got myself one :)
I know this is a older video but I’m looking to get my first street bike (been on dirt my whole life) and I think this is the one I’m gonna get.
video editing is top notch here!
Absolutely love that the exhaust resembles the gold wing logo
Dude, I didn't notice that, you're right! Looks great!
Bravo! well said
Im usually more a Kawa guy but the Fascia on this is just badass. You are FULLY sellin me
I just picked up a 2015 cbr650f which is the fairing version so I’m excited for this one
Well this is my dream bike, it have all of futures that i've dream of! ABS, gear indicator, upside down fork and it is a HOOOOONDAAAA! I will fly right to U.S. from the end of the worls for this one give away!
Man, this would be an awesome bike to have!
Thank you so much for doing this video!! I’ve been watching this bike for the LONGEST TIME! Can you ask your friends at Honda HQ if we’ll be getting a silver or black gloss paint job this model?? ;) Right on man!
P.S. sick intro too
Finally, a bike demo with good music.
Thanks papa noob I found my perfect bik.. I LOVE YOU HONDA CREATORS
Looks like a sweet ride!
Best sounding A2 restrictable bike out there.
I love the header configuration...very reminiscent of my first bike...’76 CB400F
Hey @YammieNoob I've watched most of your vids with this bike. How about some night riding thoughts? How does the headlight do, nice and bright, good light pattern?
How did you find one of these? I don't see them for sale ANYWHERE in the Southeast.
When he turned on the blinker at 7:24 and forgot for about 40 seconds I felt that.
My OCD has me pushing the blinker cancellation button often. 🤪
hey yam. should i buy this instead of the mt09 for daily commute? i feel like mt09 is a bit less relax to ride normal bcos of its power & jerky throttle.
I did my training on one of these. Really awesome bike 😊
Hi Idol.... I'm a No. 1 fan always watching your vlog.... I pray to God that give chance to your bike. That is my dream bike Honda Cb650r ... God Bless always and ride safe
Went and looked at this bike last weekend and fell in love. Unfortunately I’m cheap and ended up buying a used 08 Aprilia SL750 Shiver. Pretty much the same power specs, but for $2k and with a mental exhaust note, I’m a happy camper:
Is it comfortable to ride? Will it hurt your back, shoulders, or butt after riding for a while?
Where's the link to download the pupper playlist that distracted me from listening to the QandA?
Agreed though, it's a beautiful bike. I'm debating grabbing one or jumping to the 1000 next.
All right yammy I'm glad that you finally took a ride on the ninja, but in regards to the CB650 I wonder how and if you can compare it to the Harley-Davidson Street 500 or 750. I guess the real question iscan you compare them and would you consider them to be of a similar style or class?
It looks so good!
Super happy with my Honda cb300r 👍🏻
That bike is gorgeous. I am definitely entering for the giveaway.
Hey Mr. Yammie. What do you think about the new ZX25R?
The best part of being a patron is getting you to read my name on video lol
Love this bike. It’s gonna be my next purchase to add to my garage. I’m partial to triumphs and Hondas. Triumph for fit and finish and Honda for reliability 😎🌴
So is it like a new style Night Hawlk?
just the video I needed and at just the right time :-)
I know how you feel about the Ninjas but what are your thoughts on the naked Z1000/Z900?
Beginner Rider, absolutely zero riding experience but I’m 27, 6’3 and 240 lbs. After passing my CMSP, do you think this would be a bike I would be able to handle and grow with at my size frame for a first timer?
It took me a minute or two to figure out where the piano came from until I stopped the video and checked every background task 1 by 1.. anyway beautiful bike, I'm from an underdeveloped country, and this bike comes to my mind as a dream bike. But one day i'll ride my one with big smile on my face
Will be my first bike! Can’t wait !
which would you recommend for a beginner cb650r or yamaha MT09?
This shadow head of yours in the bush just made my day.
Hey Yammie can you tell me the size of the rear axle hub of this bike in “mm” ? Thank you
What rpms, and mph are you cruising at normally I find myself shifting to early like way too early
Another great yet controversial video. The paint choices are spot on! My eyes actually feel better! Ty oh great yamyam.
Our good Russian comrades would like to point out one of the next yamyam channel bike giveaway contenders...ruclips.net/video/YsLlpZLiF0Q/видео.html
hey Yammie Jammie, I hope you can get a chance to answer a question about this bike for me, I haven't had a chance to have a sit on one yet because I cant find one close to me. but I was hoping you could let me know how aggressive the seating position feels and overall if you had to go a couple hundred miles on it in a day could you?,
But I had one question 650 has so much more potential is there an ecu flash for this?
I'm a proud owner of a 2005 Honda Hornet 600 and I really hope this bike will be my next one!
I've got an 04 Hornet and I've gotta say this bike really has me interested in a modern version to pair with it. Gorgeous bike
would you recommend the cb500 or cb650 more for a beginner bike? I’m 6’4” and 230 so I can’t comfortably start smaller becouse of the size of the 300
It really harkens back to the original 70's CB super sports with that exhaust.
I really like your union jack jacket what is it?
It's kinda cool you like Chopin. We are so proud of him-polish people I mean.
Blinker from 7:30 to 8:00, we've definitely all done that a few times
how is the bike in a really slow moving traffic? esp for a beginner, i just had my license, passed my Learners, to be honest < 50 hrs riding, only rode a bike for a week practice and exams. me asking is because im eyeing a 2nd hand same specd and year bike. quite anxious to get but i would love to have it
"where does it slot in ?" I would say above the SV650 and MT-07s and below the Triumph Street Triple S.
YAY! im checking if i buy this motorcicle or the cbr650r for A2, i think im going to the cbr but this one is really good one!
Thanks again papa noob ......UR AWESOME
how does this compare to the Yamaha xsr700? I know that the xsr700 is similar to the fz-07 since its essentially built on the same platform. I was looking at the xsr700 and 900, I felt like the 900 would likely be too much for a less experienced individual such as myself, but I weigh a good amount and I don't want to be bogged down just because I'm a bit chunky. this looks like a good middle ground and it looks beautiful. I figure if I hit the gym and lose some weight ill get a gradual weight reduction as I get more comfortable on it lol
Yammie, looks good on a giraffe, how does it perform on an elephant?
I would love to have any of those bikes, especially the Honda CB650R. Oh yeah I am not a beginner rider. I've been riding since 1964. But I have never ridden a sport bike.
