Iroh is always going to tell Zuko the truth. And the problem is, sometimes the truth is harder to hear. But then here comes Azula, and she is telling Zuko what he _wants_ to hear when he is emotionally vulnerable.
Well said
Azula's "tides" monologue is arguably the best villain introduction scene ever. Definitely the best one Nickelodeon ever made, imo at least.
mm I feel Zaheer takes that cake
@@HOPEfullBoi01 Azula came first so she hits way harder to me.
Start of Season 1 = Zuko gets knocked off a boat
Start of Season 2 = Azula gets knocked off a boat
Must be a family trait XD
When my mom first watched Avatar with me, she would always describe Azula as (translated to English) "that snarky witch" 😭
I've always loved Aang's dream of seeing himself wiping out the Fire Nation's ships from the pov of the Fire Nation. It's the last sight some of the soldiers on board those ships ever saw before being killed and shows Aang's empathy with all living beings, even those who are considered enemies. Aang has a stance against killing and yet, there's no denying he killed many fire nation soldiers and navy officers when in the avatar state. That scene was the best way the show could make that clear without triggering the Nickelodeon censors.
You’re right- the two old women, whose names are Lo and Li, are Azula’s firebending teachers. (Interestingly enough, they’re both nonbenders)
I'll never get tired of Aang and Zuko's storylines paralleling each other
When Zuko & Iroh cut their topknots. It’s from Japanese customs. They both are stripped of their honor as fire nation.
And Then Their Hair Grow Back Later On.
@@hannahburke7328 That is not the point, in Jananese customs the cutting of a topknot was also used as a symbol of the end of an era of your life.
@@hannahburke7328its not meant to stay short
it's the classic tv trope of the character getting a new haircut/hair style/hair colour that represents their new self and new stage in life
@@natalimoinayeah but symbolic haircutting is a huge thing in east asian culture before any tv tropes existed
Azula's entire personality can pretty much be summed up by that "tides" conversation. She's by far one of the best villains on Nickelodeon, and Grey DeLisle Griffin does an excellent job voicing her. Also, that scene of Katara sinking beneath the floor was a little traumatic as a kid.
how the fuck are you on every reaction video
She's the same who voiced Vicky in Fairy Odd parents
Azula’s… intense. Let’s just say that. She definitely helped raise the stakes. She’s a fan favorite villain because she’s such a damn good character.
Season 2 is when people go all like “Oh…this is not a kid’s show anymore” 😂😂😂
Fun fact! In ancient Japan (and by extension, the Fire Nation since it is based off of their culture), hair was considered sacred, as it represented one of the traits you received from your parents and was to be treated with respect and care. Cutting off any part off the hair was seen as sacrilege, and usually implied you done something that was dishonorable or shameful. Shaving the sides of the head was a way of accepting that your actions were terrible but you could be redeemed overtime. The high top knot among the nobility and warriors was a symbol of status, and having it chopped off was considered the greatest humiliation, usually implying you disgraced your family, were banished, and in some cases, could be interpreted as your "death". In Zuko and Iroh's case, cutting the high top not only is a way to try to disguise themselves from the Fire Nation, but could also represent them accepting that they've been banished by the royal family.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! I love learning about different cultures, and Avatar is such an incredible world that is full of rich cultures based off our world!
God, I love the serious conversations between Aang and Katara. This one at 10:29 was so deep and so cute!
The Tides conversation was apparently the voice actor line submitted for the part. It was so good it was animated.
At least that is what i heard...
A Grey Delisle was the only one who didn't shout her lines.
You know Azula’s pissed at that one guard. That dude’s lucky if all he lost was his job.
But nothing compares to her biggest nemesis: her hair.
We never see or hear from him again, so I'm gonna assume that Azula made good on her "tides" threat
I'd like to think that he swam to shore and never looked back.
@@chilibreath Better to desert than to face the wrath of Azula. I would totally do the same.
The crazy general is actually based on real PTSD which is actually kind of sad. Also I love Iroh he is so modest despite already being on a level that he was the only one who could handle this mind blowing new villian.
So, we already know by this point that Iroh isn't to be trifled with; but I feel that it's worth pointing out that, in the time it took for Azula to finish toying with Zuko, Iroh single handedly mopped the deck with something like 30 Fire Nation royal guard.
1:51 poor Sokka.😢
Honestly I know how that feels
Also, Azula is only 14 years old. To have that much power and authority and FEAR at such a young age is downright terrifying
Killua from Hunter x Hunter has Azula beat by 2 years
The "tides" speech really does exemplify Azula, but in more ways than one.
Think about what was actually said: "the tides will not allow us to bring the ship into port" i.e. if we try to pull in now, the tides will dash the ship against the rocks.
Azula's response: Do it anyway or I'll have YOU dashed against the rocks.
In any other universe Zuko and Iroh wouldn't have been welcomed by one glorious ship, they should have arrived to find a bunch of life boats after Azula scuttled her main one. It's only through sheer dumb luck and overwhelming brute force that Azula's gotten as far as she has.
The lighting redirection isnt an accident. The art of lightning bending used to be a secret art only known and used by the royal family of the fire nation and only in korra is modernized :)
Azula was voiced by the legendary Grey delisle who was the voice of Mandy from Billy and Mandy
And vicky from fairly odd parents 😊
And Daphne Blake of Scooby Doo
fun fact azula's va (grey delisle) also voiced Ming Hua in korra!
9:00-😂 What fool would believe this?
11:23-Wait,Zuko believed it?!
I kind of wanted to see the ship get beached after Azula made them dock without waiting for the tides.
The two old women are named Lo and Li. Their names are rarely mentioned and I had to look it up.
Really cool how Daniel Dae Kim soon will have played a part in all 3 Avatar series, soon to be Ozai in live action.
15:22-No Katara,DON'T go!
A waterbender won't help if there's no water.
It’s still crazy to me that Wubbzy, the earliest animated character I heard Grey Delisle voice as a kid, shares the same voice as a Azula… it’s kinda unsettling. Cool, but unsettling.
That's hilarious 😂
3:30-A piece of advice:
If you deal with bosses like this, just don't bother explaining why their decision is wrong. They won't listen.
Do as they order and when the consequences come say you just did what they told you to do.
If the boss would STILL punish you this way, then better just run away because you are in as much danger staying as the enemy!
The scary thing about Azula is that she is only 14 and she's already this powerful.
Azula was f***ing scary when I first watched this show back in the day.
Janet Varney’s (Korra’s VA) birthday was three days ago
Azula is such a great Villain , From second 1, she emits so much terrifying energy...
The thing is that....yes..the tirés do commande your ship...so to go again the tides is to put yourself at risk
The earth bending gets so good later on
Excited to see it again
15:21 Bless You, Katara.
This Is Why Katara Is One Of My Favorite Characters.
iroh also nows about zuko being the blue spirit i mean its the same description as his weapons and mask he owns
Omg, Azula, finally, my second favourite character in the show!
she is so cooool! but scary lol
Azula is the same age as Katara at 14.
6:03 What General Fong Doesn't Understand Is Discipline In Power, Aang Just Can't Literally Go Barging In The Fire Lord's Palace With Just The Avatar State.
Azula has arrived and ready to burn everything
Such a damn good, well written character. Her arc and the rest of Fire nation royals are prime examples of the S. Tier quality storytelling this show has.
@@Taizu314
Exactly
12:32 Iroh: I Smell Bull Droppings.
"Is it drugs?"
Most likely, it's Panera's charged chi teas.
I'll show myself out...😂
3:53 If You Thought Azula's Monologue On The Tides Was Intense, Just Wait.
Fun fact: in ancient china, cutting the top knot was a fate worse than death. they believed that your body is a gift from the heavens, especially your hair. To cut your hair, or to have your hair cut by someone else, was considered the highest form of dishonor. the fact that Zuko and Iroh cut their hair willingly also shows how dishonored and disgraced they have be come.
Imo, season 2 was so much better than season 1. Going to be lots of new characters I can see Zamber following in love with
Also when we get to episode 15, might want the tissues for that one
23:31 Lo And Li Are The Names Of The Elderly Twins.
You so close to meeting her!!!!
7:14 Lighting Bending.
An Advanced Firebending Ability. ⚡
22:54 It Won't Change Anything For Zuko, He Will Be Put On A Journey Of Self Reflection Later On.
If you think Azula is terrifing now, well, you have seen nothing yet. Also, her brazilian voice acting makes her even more terrifing imo.
8:18-He got too much caffeine?
@IAmZamber
Azula was raised by her father, the Fire Lord Ozai. He raised her to be a genocidal conqueror just like him. Ozai is basically Adolf Hitler. 14 years being raised by the world's most evil dictator can make anybody messed up in the head.
8:27 😂 🤣 Aang Will Give The Fire Lord An Earful! 😂🤣
4:31 I Have One Word To Describe Azula: Intense.
18:14 😢 This Is Scary Seeing Aang Like This.😢
The next episode is called ''The Cave of Two lovers.''
Secret tunnel 🎶
19:17 The Avatar State Is Both A Strength And Weakness.
8:18-Caffeine?
I think I know why lightning is connected to firebending, because lightning causes fire
9:45 And just how sure are you that he is dead?
I am SO Exited that we are in season 2 now, so much good! is in hear, and we are gonna get too a Character I know you are gonna LOVE!
Azula is actually really more interesting when get more into season 2
Azulasvshort fuse makes her unstable
Azula is a problematic queen who doesn't fuck around.
It is definitely a good opening for world building. Very much needed. Episode two is actually my favorite of the first five.
I admit episode one isn’t as fun to rewatch but once the season hits its stride it takes off and does not look back. Season two is the strongest in my opinion. I don’t like season three as much and I don’t think it is a good.
Agreed, season 2 has the most and some of the strongest episodes.
Now that he cut his hair you get to see zuko get sooooo much hotter
Azula's introduction is just like krauser' introduction in resident evil 4 original if you know resident evil 4 original the only difrence is we didn't see Ozai and we saw osmund saddler and that is the only difrence
20:03 and not the type of wanted that Zuko desires
Just wait till book 3, you'll like azula less than ever.
Do episode 2
azulas not as good of a liar as she thinks she is
Like you was angry that zuko was so mean to his crew and if azula does ghat than thatq ok and cool
FINALLY!!🎉
Is it weird that I think Azula's kinda hot?
19:11 I feel like this should not be new information for someone who has watched book 3 of Korra /hj
Early ganggggg
:D yessssssss
