    Found one of these in my ditch line the other day. I hadn’t seen one before and honestly thought it was a flea market 25$ knife. Still I thought it was neat so I polished the blade and trigger, put a drop or two of gun oil down the slide cause it was derailing and got it functioning efficiently. Just out of curiosity about the hardware I image searched it and found out it was a Ultratech and the model I have is right under 500$ I’m grateful life threw me a bone. This is a really cool knife.

    I have one in the D/E Satin version, I can't do without it, it's so practical to use on a daily basis, the edge is great and it lasts a long time. It's very secure, with a snap of your fingers, you have a usable blade and the same to close it. The window breaker has already been used by me to save a dog locked in a car in direct sunlight during the summer. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world and I encourage everyone to get this beautiful and useful knife, the price can be a barrier to purchase but you won't regret your purchase, it's a safe bet.

    The Ultratech is sooo underrated as an EDC due to the price. But in pocket and in practical use (especially with a drop point. I have three Ultratech blade variants) it is one of the best knives made for daily carry. So thin in pocket. Tons of room to slide hand by it. Outstanding pocket clip. Excellent steel options. Ridiculously sharp factory edge. Heaven forbid it is ever needed but has a valuable glass breaker that could save someone’s life and it would be a trustworthy option if needed in a defense situation; way better than a folder.

      The "button play" is a design feature on most of the more premium OTFs. There's a little spring that pushes the button away from the body in order to minimize friction contact. Never bothered me. Not a fan of Benchmade OTFs.

    Nice, informative video. Have to be honest... Considering the prices these Microtechs command, I would have expected the biggest issue that _all_ OTF automatics suffer from to have been corrected; and some sort of external safety mechanism to have been added. Disappointed that neither is the case.

      My utx-85 slider is so stiff it shreds the skin off my thumb if I cycle the blade more than three or four times. I just disassembled it this morning hoping to find dirt and grime causing the resistance - no such luck. I cleaned it out with alcohol, reassembled and lubed it as recommended. It's slightly smoother now but that usually only lasts for a few cycles, then it's right back like it was before. Pretty disappointing considering the premium price.
      I got an LUDT in today's mail: excellent fit and finish, perfect edge bevels. I'd much rather carry the LUDT - personal preference I guess.

      There's really no need for safety on double action OTFs. Blade deployment takes a strong and deliberate motion. Honestly, they are safer (and more convenient) than folding knives. Plus, like the guy here demonstrated: on the off chance that the blade does deploy in your pocket, it's not going to do much damage. Now, the single action OTFs are a bit scary.

    • @Prizrak-hv6qk
      @Prizrak-hv6qk Месяц назад

      They are getting bigger as a trend. Microtech's new Combat Troodon and Makora versions are 4". Heretic Cleric II is 4.25". Maxace recently released a killer budget ($128 shipped) OTF called the Neptune. It has a super wide 3.85" blade and "grip tape" like material on the sides of the 7075 aluminum body. It also has dual locking lugs for extra strength/safety. It's kind of taking the OTF world by storm.

  • @sideflip1343
    @sideflip1343 14 дней назад

    These OTF knives shouldn't be wiggly, wobbly and lose when deployed. I mean the design is cool, but when the blade is deployed it should be stiff and still. It's a knife after all

  • @stevepeters7354

    I have an UT. Purchased about 5 months ago. It is well built, but really difficult to deploy and retract, certainly not one hand. Sent it back to Microrech and after11 weeks and some pushing they sent back. It was a tiny bit better, still not what these videos indicate with ease of deployment. While it was with MT for a problem solution, I purchased a Kershaw Livewire. Kershaw deploys and retracts as one should. Conclusion, Microtech enjoys quite a bit of undeserved hype or they just didn't bother to fix the problem. I will probably get the usual "you're not strong enough" BS, but don't have a problem with Benchmade, Kershaw, Hogue, etc. Blah, blah, blah. Microtech, great build materials, but horrible design execution or they didn't fix anything with the return. Either way, will not buy another one
